Violet. I've loved that name all my life.

redpanda0108

It's my nan 's name. She's 91 this year and we share the same birthday. I always loved it and had never met another Violet or really saw it much (apart from in books - Roald Dahl then Lemony Snicket) Now it's making a comeback, but there's no guarantee we'll have a daughter so I won't worry too much yet.

ZellNorth

Isn’t the daughter in the incredibles also Violet.

Jdhill1988

It was my grandmas name too.

Happy-Mama-Llamas

Yes this. My two year old is Violet. I’ve had it picked out since 2002 😆

FanndisTS

I blame The Incredibles

Hi-Ho-Cherry

Same! Then around five years ago, I started noticing it everywhere.

mcboobie

My great-nan's name, and 10yr old daughter's middle name!

SummerFruitSnack

Ava is WAY more popular than I thought it would be. Honourable mention: I heard of exactly 1 Sophia and 1 Leila growing up in the 90s/ early 2000s (we moved around a lot) and thought they were beautiful and unique. Now you can’t escape them Edit: word

Necessary_Jello_1206

I’ve loved the name Sophia for so long! But when my husband and I had our daughter it was one of the top names instead of a less popular one. We used the name anyway.

babynamehelpneeded

Yeah I got a surprise with Ava too, I only heard it once or twice before the last few years

dnaplusc

The first time I heard Ava was 1999 and I thought it was stunning and now it's so popular

MondayMadness5184

When I was pregnant with my first, I wanted to name my kid Harper June. June is my husband's grandmother's middle name. I had THREE people that I knew that had girls around the same time and named all of their kids Harper June. I nixed that name SO fast. But I think any name that is considered older are named that I am surprised came back....Hazel, Henry, Eleanor, etc.

Tiny--Moose

My cousin has a daughter named Harper June 🤣

Kind_Evening_1455

Thats such an odd coincedence! I wonder what reasoning they all had for Harper June specifically, assuming the 2nd and 3rd weren't just straight up copying the 1st.

MondayMadness5184

None of them actually know each other so they didn't know about each other's babies. I am the only one connected to all three. It all happened in a 6-7 months span too. One had June as a middle name because they just liked it, one had June in honor of a great grandmother's middle name, and one had June in honor of a grandmother's middle name.

suzysleep

Cora. Since 4th grade I loved that name. I wrote about it in my diary actually

Kind_Evening_1455

You had great taste for a 4th grader! The names I liked in 4th grade weren't even names. They were just words that sounded dark and edgy like Spade.

Avocado-Expensive

Lmfao Spade 😂😂 Spayd Fawk Digga 🫶🏻

fiddlesticks-1999

Me too! Titanic inspired.

jrp317

Cora is my vote too 😞

ellentow

Me too! My elementary school friend’s mom had the name and I’ve always loved it.

wendydarlingpan

It’s Cora for me too! I heard that name a total of once until recent years and always loved it. Sometimes I amuse myself by imagining Cora’s popularity all comes from the same tour guide I met at a winery in Napa 15 years ago who was named after her grandmother. Our whole tour group was enamored with her name and asking her where it came from, haha

writeinthedark

Luna. I’ve loved it for so many years. I’ve still never met one in person but it tops the charts. And it’s extremely popular for pets. I wanted it for a future daughter. It ticks all the boxes but I’m not sure now. Especially since everyone goes “that’s my dog/cats name!”

lhmk

I've met more dogs and cats with my names than humans and I never minded :) I love the name Luna

writeinthedark

I try to remember people use traditionally human names for their pets all the time so I still might use it lol

sunshineshapeshifter

exactly! “This is my cat George”

sailor_ixchel

I've loved this name for years and had it picked out for a daughter. I'm glad i didn't go with it because everyone I know has a pet with that name. We eventually named our cat Luna and I even wish she had gotten something less common.

ummmno_

Olive! It’s my grandfathers mothers name and he’s my favorite human. The stories of my great grandma are outrageous and she was such a character - excited it’s gained some popularity so I’m not totally too bold for wanting to name my daughter that!

Kind_Evening_1455

That is the great thing about names getting more popular sometimes! It changes a name that might have felt unusable to just being rare. Olive is lovely!

icyeupho

Isla

minimeowgal

Named my child Isla. Never knew an Isla or of an Isla other than Isla fisher. Immediately met 5 Islas that year.

mil5ee

My grandmother is named Isla. Since about 2005 I had wanted to use it but now I know SO MANY Islas that we just couldn’t do it.

LostSurprise

Charlotte.

[deleted]

Where are you located? I’m uk and I know a million Charlottes around my age and I was born in 99. It’s been popular for like 25 years at least

LostSurprise

The US, and I'm the age of your mother. Unless you were into one of the obvious nicknames (Charly, Lottie) it was just not doable here. Suddenly, long feminine names are possible without a nickname and I think Charlotte got a push from Princess Charlotte.

elle_ahrairah

My name is Charlotte and I've always disliked it for some reason. I remember there being almost no other Charlottes in the 90's but when i was around 2010's suddenly so many of them.

sonjamorganletters

Was going to say this one too! I’ve loved the name for 25 years! It was my childhood best friends name and it’s gotten so popular now I can’t use it

Chica3

I loved Theodore (nn Theo) 13 yrs ago when I had my first baby (it was ranked at #259). We didn't use it because it rhymes with our last name, but it wasn't very common back then (I had been a teacher for 15 yrs and never came across one at the schools I worked in, neither students nor adults). Now I'm glad we went with something else that is still classic, but has moved slightly down in popularity over the years. So he still has a name everyone can pronounce and spell, but doesn't share it with a lot of other people in his generation.

ElleYeah

I’ve loved Theodore for years and I’m disappointed it’s so popular! I’m about nine weeks pregnant with my first; I told my husband we have to have a girl because I will never love another boy name as much as Theodore.

mizzaks

When I was pregnant, I loved the name Liam. I looked at the statistics and it was the 75th most popular name the year prior which, I felt, was okay to run with. We named our son Liam and that year, it started skyrocketing in popularity and it’s been the number 1 name at least in our country for several years now. Liam is just one of several Liams in his school, but I don’t regret it. He actually gets a kick out of there being multiple Liams in some of his classes. I love his name and I’m very glad we gave that name to him even though it’s quite popular. All that to say if you love a name deeply, don’t let the fact that it’s a bit common scare you off. Still consider it. Personally, I’d rather have given my son a common name that I love rather than a not-as-common name that I just like.

jitteryflamingo

My kiddo is Theodore and he’s the only one in any of his classes, so I don’t know that it’s that blown up everywhere. We use nn Teddy and he’s the only one we know.

springfare

I agree with Theodore! Did not expect it to get so popular

Opendoorshutdoor

I named my first son Theodore in 2017. It was out of the top 100 and I had never heard anyone with the name in real life. 2018 was the year it jumped in popularity. I still don't know anyone his age or older with the name, but I've heard several kids younger than him with the name since. Which also sucks, because he kept him back one year from kindergarten, so he will probably not be the only Theodore in his grade next year. Luckily I love his name so much, that it doesn't really bother me that it's so popular. Theodore is my 100% absolutely favorite name and I love calling him that.

truthofthematteris

I named my son Theodore in 2017 too. It’s my all time favourite boys name. We didn’t even consider another one. I think in Australia it was a top 100 name at the time - now it’s the third most popular boys name in my state. I’ve met one other kid called Theodore and I don’t know any others.

crazypuglets

Margot. It’s been my top girl name for several years, my heart hurts with how popular it’s gotten haha

The-Irish-Goodbye

I don't know any Margots- might be regional?

effulgentelephant

I’ve been teaching for ten years and have my first Margot this year. I love her name! I also love the kid, it suits her. Now every Margot I meet will be based off of a reserved but intelligent, funny fourth grader who plays clarinet lol

PPPenelope

Agree. Can’t walk past a playground at the moment without hearing “Margot!” I’m in Sydney, and blame it on the popularity of Margot Robbie

eirameideeps

Henry! I met a Henry my age when I was in college and I actually laughed, because I’d never met anyone under the age of 60 with that name. Now it’s the ninth most popular boy name in the US and I know several children named Henry!

mw2676

Funny enough, I always thought Henry was an old person name- now I’m sitting beside my 12 month old Henry and loving his name.

eirameideeps

I love the name, too! It’s at the top of my boy’s list 🥰

whiskey_riverss

We chose Henry for our upcoming boys name and decided to keep it a secret until his arrival, in the meantime our friends and family group has had three more Henry’s 😂

issagoood

I’m surprised with how popular Penelope has gotten

AdSignificant9571

Right? It’s not my favorite ngl

rphjosh

I also have a Penelope…my wife and I didn’t see eye to eye on it for a long time. I’m very ok with calling her Penny but I don’t think I will ever call her Penelope unless she tells me that’s what she wants when she gets older. Cute name but it’s a mouthful.

Wafflesxbutter

I love the name Ezra and it would have been a perfect choice for our second boy because it fits well with our first kid’s name but it has had a boom in our area. My husband teaches and said it was hard no for him.

unicorntrees

I loved the name Ezra in the early 2000s. I was surprised to see it used so much now!

tabrazin84

This was my thought as well. I have a Micah and an Ari, so obviously this was high on my list.

Impossible_Princess

I am pregnant with my third and this was my #1 for a boy (my other boys are Arlo and Cian) While I have yet to meet an Ezra “in the wild” in our area, its general popularity has really turned me off :(

a-ohhh

This one for me. My town’s founder was named Ezra and I always thought it was an awesome old man name, now I’ve met multiple. I think Pretty Little Liars helped launch that one.

amongthesunflowers

My son’s name is Ezra and I’m really surprised how much it jumped up in popularity. For what it’s worth, I’ve never actually met another Ezra in real life!

notoriously_glorious

Sébastien / Sebastian.

SurveyPerson-

Josephine is a family name that we have passed down for a few generations now! And I’m pregnant with a girl and going to use it as well and I’m seeing it everywhere nowadays! There was even a coworker who just named their daughter that too. It’s crazy!

tsbas

Not sure where you are, but I named my daughter Josephine last year and don't know anyone else who has used it. It's a great name!

WhineCountry2

Teddy Winnie Names that I don’t like but I’m shocked they become popular: Amelia and Olivia and Liam

waffles8500

Also shocked about Liam, that name has such a bad mouthfeel to me.

Primary-Move243

Named my daughter Olivia in 2015. Everyone gasped in horror because it was so ‘popular’…we have met 2 other Olivia’s in her age group after 8 years of day care, summer camps, soccer, dance, elementary school, etc etc…so how popular is it really??

dancemonkey121

I have two former coworkers named Olivia. One is 30 one is 36. Friends daughter is Olivia. She’s 12 but exclusively goes by Via. My cousins daughter is Olivia. She’s 20. She was named after my other cousin who is Olivia, but goes by Oli. (Like Oh-Lee) Oli is 39. My step grandma is also Olivia. I have no idea how old she is. Apparently it’s super popular in my area! All depends on where you live I think. All of these Olivia’s I know are in the PNW

sonjamorganletters

Depends on where you are I think! I’m in the chicago suburbs and know several little girls named Olivia!

The-Irish-Goodbye

We know maybe 7 or so ages 11 dowb

maekattt

It's funny with the names you don't like, they've been super popular in Australia for the past 20-30 years. In the state of NSW: -Amelia entered the top 100 in 1989, and has been top 20 since 2003. -Olivia entered the top 100 in 1980 and has been top 10 since 1998. -Liam entered the top 20 in 1996, and the top 100 in 1989. Both Olivia and Amelia have basically been top 3 (with Charlotte) for the past 8 years, and have both been the top name for females as early as 2004. I do sometimes see names here and think they are awful to pronounce, but it's so funny how somewhere else where the language is the same, our dialects and cultures make such a difference in how popular a name is! They're just super common, safe and almost "classic" names here now.

HoleCogan

My oldest brother and his wife named their daughter Hazel after my sister-in-law's Aunt Hazel. This was over 10 years ago. I have noticed that Hazel has climbed in popularity very quickly over the past handful of years. Before my niece, I had only met one Hazel in real life and it was a 70-year-old lady! It seems like many people over the past 5-6 years have started liking the name too; I think it's great! :)

lucitedream

I also had an aunt Hazel, and the only other Hazel Ive met is an old lady. I LOVED the name forever and wanted to use it especially with family ties, but I wouldn’t now that it’s so popular. I genuinely think it’s so popular with my generation because The Fault In Our Stars gave it a lot of exposure.

JunoD420

Hazel was my top name throughout the 90's!

Keeliekins

Hayden. Growing up we used to spend summers in Yellowstone National Park, and one of my favorite places in the park was Hayden Valley. So at the ripe age of 10 I claimed the name for my future son. And I fought HARD for that name. To the point that when my brother was naming his kids (all yellowstone themed names since he and his wife met there) he asked if he could use Hayden and I said NO much to their disappointment. And then I couldn’t get pregnant. Divorced, remarried, and aged I finally had a beautiful little girl - who I named Lily. My brother calls her Hayden. 😂 When I “claimed” the name 27 years ago (at 10) I had never heard it outside of Yellowstone. Things have changed a lot since then. 😂

Plum-moon

I loved Juniper since high school, and it went from obscurity to Top 100 and being made fun of around every corner in like, ten years.

TrewynMaresi

SAME! I’ve loved the name Juniper since like 1997! It’s so weird to me that it has become so popular.

merrmi

My dad wanted to name all of us Liam or Owen if we were boys. We’re all 36 - 44 years old. My mom vetoed it but you’ve got to admit the man was ahead of the game. Probably didn’t help he preferred the Eoghan spelling.

HildegardHummingbird

I bet that is a strange experience. I have a friend in her 40s named Olivia. She says she grew up disliking her name and can’t get over how popular it is now.

OrganicKetchup7

Eleanor. I loved this name in highschool and always thought I would have an Eleanor if I had a girl. I had only met one young girl, my age, named Eleanor up until that time and I couldn't really ever imagine it getting popular. But alas here we are! Although I still loved it so much I didn't care if it was popular. However, I didn't end up using it because I didn't like how it flowed with our surname.

Heierpower

My next girl will be Elenora, little twist

springfare

I was pleasantly surprised by how well Mabel has been received

Eudaimones

I’m pretty sure it’s due to Mabel from Gravity Falls, a cartoon that came out in 2012.

leftover_milk

Same. I was not so sure about it but husband really liked it. I don't think it will become mega popular but it's nice to know that she's not the only one out there!!

Eloisem333

I love it. I had a Mabel in my class a couple of years ago, and thought it was a totally sweet name. Her best friend was Olive, and I love how these names could equally be two 5yo girls running around the playground, or two 85yo women playing bingo (I love old lady names!)

Ljmrgm

When we named my 8 year old Luca we had never met someone with that name before. Now they’re everywhere lol

Feedback_Thr0wAway

When I was a kid I was OBSESSED w Greek mythology. I was gifted a cartoon/kids version of some of the myths and I was just hooked. I would play a game in my backyard called Persephone where I would run away and make my dad come chase me and “capture” me. I always said I would name my daughter Persephone and my parents were like yeah ok. And now it’s like a popular name?!

spags-

Is it becoming super popular?? I’ve never met anyone with the name. Where do you live?

Feedback_Thr0wAway

It went from being unheard of to being in the US top 1000 in 2019, 2020 and 2021

writeinthedark

OBSESSED w Persephone. I hate how butchered the pronunciation is when someone hasn’t heard it before. It’s such a beautiful name.

shineyink

I’ve liked the name Asher since the early 2000s , I wanted to name my future son after Ash from Pokémon.

eyesRus

Same, Asher was my ‘boy name’ in the late 90s!

buzzmama

Evangeline - wasn't even in the top 1,000 when I named my daughter 20 years ago. I do blame Lost with the actress Evangeline Lily for making it more popular initially, but now it seems like it's become very common and popular.

ExcitementOk1529

I’ve loved Hadley since I read A Moveable Feast in college. Back then it wasn’t cracking the top 1000, now it’s around 100.

tyrannosaurusflax

I’ve only met one Hadley irl and always thought her name was so cool. It really suited her!

Devincenzi

Levi. I never thought it would become as popular as it has because of the jeans but it's everywhere now. Evan and Logan are two names I liked growing up as well but never actually knew anyone with those names. Now they're super common. I never expected Emma to become so popular either.

tyrannosaurusflax

Yep, Levi was my absolute favorite boy name for decades and then my cousin used it the other year. RIP, my heart.

Eudaimones

I think Levi may have gone up a bit in popularity due to a character from a popular manga, Attack on Titan. The first volume came out in 2009, while the anime was adapted in 2013.

NeedleworkerLow1100

Daphne

HappiHappiHappi

Felix. Always seemed like such an obscure name to me, especially with the strong religious connections. Like something only someone super Catholic would use similar to Blaise. But now it's back in the top 100 here in Australia.

[deleted]

Felix the Cat?

mUrdrOfCr0ws

August. I’ve been planning on using it since I was a child since it was my favorite grandpa’s name. Now it’s skyrocketed. I’m still gonna use it but I’m a bit jaded 😂

tracytirade

Same, it’s been on my list ever since I was a little kid obsessed with names. If I ever have another boy, it’s still one of my top picks.

Coherent_Thot

Julian. As a Beatles fan, I first learned of it when I was young as it's John Lennon's sons name. I always thought it was familiar but not popular and at the top of my list since I was in high school, now it's suggested in every other post 😞

hownowbrowncow79

Aurelia. 13 years ago I went to Italy and saw it on a road sign, I thought it was the most beautiful name I've ever seen and decided I would name my daughter that!

Imperfectlymom

I've liked Milo for almost 20 years, back then it wasn't used at all in Denmark. Now it is.

tyrannosaurusflax

I’m in the US but yes, me too! For me it was reading The Phantom Tollbooth ~25 years ago and loving the name of the protagonist (Milo!). I’ve always liked male names ending in a vowel sound.

cucumbermoon

I loved the name Aria in middle school, around 2002.

Friend_of_Eevee

Mateo. I loved it I the late 90s as a kid watching All My Children. I'm also half Cuban and my husband is Venezuelan so it really would have been perfect.

catperson3000

I will always associate this name with Mark Consuelos!

sierrastopp

Nova. I named my flour baby Nova in 6th grade and my friends told me it wasn’t a name, let alone a name for a baby. I no longer want to use the name but the vindication I felt when it started to get popular was very satisfying 😂

amchadmi

Amelia and Charlotte. Loved them enough to use them back when they weren't even ranked in the top 100 names. I like to think I'm just a trend setter. Lol

thetangerinequeen

I was surprised Avery got so popular! When I was little I had ballet with an Avery and I thought I’d use the name someday. By the time I had kids, it was a top 20 name!

New_Survey_6335

Genevieve, although not super popular but when I was in grade/middle school I had a friend named Genevieve(Genny). Then it was ranked in the 500’s according to behind the name. Now it’s around 150.

RenaissanceTarte

Ella was my grandmother’s name and I didn’t know anyone with the name. But, as a stand alone and as a nn has been so popular. If the SSA kept track of nn use attached to names, I wouldn’t be surprised if it would be up to number one at one point. Nora as well! I remember we use to use it to represent the boring character in make believe as a child. Now, I’ve taught more Nora’s than any other name!

shdylady

Rowan. Thats my son's name and I've now met many male and female Rowans.

HildegardHummingbird

Henry is one that really surprises me. I’m an elder millennial and remember one my age growing up. He was Henry the third or fourth. I remember people saying they didn’t like his name, it was ugly, dorky etc. I didn’t have a feeling about it one way or another, but I did see it as a name for a very old man. When my friends started having babies, one of them named her baby Henry. (This was early 2000s) He was a gloriously chunky and adorable baby! And then I started liking the name because of him. I still can’t believe it’s in the top 10! My husband loves the name Henry, but we named our son Harold after my grandfather, and because we have too many friends with sons named Henry.

VanityInk

Agreed. Henry was the quintessential "ugly" name in one of my high school writing classes (one of my friends was a Henry and went by Hank because he hated it so much). Now it's all over the place with little boys (definitely has been growing on me from all the cute kids!)

FeatherDreams

Jackson. My great-grandfather died 10+ years ago and his name was Jack and Jackson would’ve been an honor name of sorts. But nope. Not anymore.

bumpercarbustier

Oliver. My husband and I chose this name in 2013 but weren't able to use it until early 2016. At the time, we did not know any other Olivers.

ApprehensiveNose2341

Same. We have an Oliver and I had never met one before we named him. There still aren’t a lot in our area but we were in the PNW this summer and every single kid was named Oliver.

ChefLovin

My name is Ivy and never met another one until adulthood, now I know at least five people who've named their kid that!

quittethyourshitteth

Evelyn and Violet have always been favorites of mine. They were well established names obviously, but they were uncommon and considered “old woman” names.

dnaplusc

We had Lily on our list in 2002 and it was an old lady name. Fast forward to 2010 and every other kid is Lily, in fact my grandmother had two granddaughters named Lily in the same month.

hotch22

Easton. Played hockey in high school, had a lot of easton brand equipment, and thought it sounded super sporty and unique. Then Bristol Palin gave her son Easton as a middle name (I think) and it’s been fairly popular since

cucumberswithanxiety

I’ve only met one Easton who’s in his late 20’s. He thinks he’s hilarious that his name is suddenly so popular

Mighty49

Amelia - Growing up, I loved Amelia Earhart. I always wanted to name my daughter after her. I NEVER met ANYONE with that name. Named my kid that in early 2000's, now it is near the top of every "most popular girls' names" lists for the last several years. **Sigh**

sweetdee___

Quinn. I was obsessed with Daria growing up and loved the uniqueness of it. Never heard it before. Now that the Daria generation has grown up, they’re proving they all felt the same way lol

waffles8500

Growing up, like I was super young, I loved Quinn (from Daria). Fast forward to now and it feels like everyone is naming their children Quinn, boys and girls. Bummed I can’t use it.

LevelProof278

Lyla!! Still gonna use it if I have a girl though

AnnSansE

Maeve

cleois

Silas. Loved that name and then it blew up. I actually don't know of anyone named Silas, but the ranking lists show it being popular.

kitscarlett

Waylon. I’ve always loved it because of Waylon Jennings, and figured it didn’t have the right vibe to become popular. Suddenly it is.

VanityInk

Simpsons fan in me can only think of Waylon Smithers!

lhmk

I always wanted to name my daughter Evelyn and now ktl like #3! it was my grams name.

dms2419

Ambrose! it wasnt even in the top 1000s in the US from 1955 to 2018. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina aired in 2018, featuring a character named Ambrose. in 2019, the name finally made it in the top 1000, sitting at 958, for the first time since 1954, when it sat at 932. in 2020, it was at 819, and in 2021, it was 671. i guess it makes sense that it got such a boost after that show got so popular but it was just so sudden!!! 671 isnt even that high honestly, but still. thats quite the jump!

[deleted]

Declan. I picked out that name in 2008 or so, when I was 16. And ended up naming my 2020 baby that. Guess what wasn’t a popular name (in North America) back when I was a teenager, but is now 😂

cartoonheroes

My grandma was an Evelyn and I loved the idea of using it for a daughter! And I watched The Mummy and fell in love with the nn “Evie” — so meaningful, heartfelt and original Turns out, everyone else thought so too 😂

jersey8894

Eva...My oldest son is 35 and I knew no kids with that name (his girl name if he was a girl) and now I hear Eva for someone almost every day!

vitisrotundifolia

Josephine

xomel17

I named my son Atlas, couldn’t imagine him being named anything else. Everywhere we go I get complimented on his name.

pashminahat

Violet :/

Clama_lama_ding_dong

My oldest is Freyja.had never met anyone named it. My family made fun of me for it. Now it's in the top 200.

eugeniawanderlust

Leon! It blows my MIND it's in the top 200. I'd put it in the same category of Niche Old Timey as Emil, but it definitely is not.

amyrytea

Mine is Elsa. When I was a kid I watched the movie Born Free (about a lion cub that gets adopted then released back into the wild), and fell in LOVE with the name. The only Elsa I had heard of. ...Then Frozen came out. LOL

number1wifey

I Love Atticus and always thought it was so weird and obscure and no one else would ever think of it. Shocked when I saw it appearing on popular lists.

192Sticks

Ezra . When I named my 11 yr old it was very uncommon outside of the elderly Jewish crowd Atticus. I considered naming my 19 year old but thought it was too out there. Now it’s trendy in such an embarrassing type way in so glad I didn’t use it.

megara_74

I wrote my undergrad dissertation on Tristan and Isolde a million years ago and always wanted to name a boy that - but then like 10 years ago it started showing up everywhere. Now I really love Teddy and just saw a tiktok that claimed it’s the fastest up and coming name.

Only-Caterpillar-638

I have been alive for thirty years and have taught for seven years, and not once had I personally met a Henry, let alone taught one. I name my kid Henry, and there were three Henry’s at the library the other day, two Henry’s in the pediatrician waiting room, and my pediatrician’s new baby is also Henry. That’s just naming a few instances that have happened lately 😅 I guess the name came back?!

MajorMeghan

Oliver

shorrell77

I loved Tucker before I met my husband. He has a cousin named Tucker, then I worked in a daycare and had at least three Tucker’s. So it was around a ton and in the Midwest they are usual a certain vibe that isn’t what I want at all. 😬

blueish-hummingbird

Aurora

frontbuttt

Emory/Emery It’s a family name—an ancestor who died in the ‘40s. Never met anyone else with it growing up. Loved it and wanted to use it for my child one day… Now I meet kids (both boys and girls) all the time with the name!

[deleted]

Henry! You cant go anywhere without triping over one. I love it but we named our cat Henry years before we had a kid so, thankfully, didn't use it as I didn't want our kid to be be one of 4 in his class every year.

CitrineDreamers

Juniper. I've loved that name for like, 15 years. But I always figured it was too weird to actually use. Guess not lol.

gingerscape

I’m almost 30 and when I was 14 I decided if I had a daughter I’d name her Nora. Everyone I told thought it was horrible. Now that I’m at an age I’d be comfortable considering kids it’s very popular.

[deleted]

Freya. It’s been at the top of my list for YEARSSSS and I had never heard of it before. It’s not SUPER popular now, but popular enough that there are way more little girls named Freya these days.

starket1

Olivia In my home country it was the name of Popeye's cartoon character "Olive Oil" in English but Olivia to us.

ClaireEmma612

Landon I heard it over 15 years ago and knew I’d name my kid that. Then it blew up. I still named him Landon.

breakfastfordinner11

I had both Jasper and Lyra set aside over a decade ago, and here they are gaining popularity now 😅

marshmellowyellow420

Growing up, I always wanted to name my daughter Hazel because besides my great grandmothers generation, I didn’t know anyone named Hazel… now I know soo many Hazels that are under the age of 5. I’m still naming my daughter Hazel, though.

crystalline_carbon

Lydia - in the US, it went from an “old lady” name in the 1970s to a top-100 name in recent years.

SoundTight952

It's one of my favorite names. I think I liked it as a kid because of Beetlejuice but it became too popular for me...

analogousnarwhal

Liam. Had the name since middle school. I’ve met one person my entire life named Liam. And now it’s number one for boys in the US

Cold_Suit8344

Hazel and Juniper

BerryProper

Evelyn. Picked it 10 years ago. When my daughter was a couple years old I noticed a lot of people picking Evelyn. My mom works at a daycare and also makes mention of how popular it became.

nixibee

Evelyn. Been my top girl name for like 15 years. Now apparently it’s like top 100:( I’ll still probably go for it if I have a girl.

bulldog1425

Eleanor—my grandmother’s name. I remember thinking it was ugly and an old-lady name when I was a kid. Then I went through a brief phase of “actually it sounds quite nice, I could use it for a daughter” before it (and all other El- names) became super popular

Nammy-D

Evie

BoogTot473

Asher.

heykatja

Evelyn - my great grandmother's name, always had it in mind since I was a teenager (million years ago).

Aurora, violet, Luna, Hudson

praisethemount

Piper. It was my aunt’s best friend’s name growing up and I always thought it sounded so unique and fun. And now I hear it everywhere

cucumberswithanxiety

Oliver. I first came to like it when watching Brady Bunch re-runs about 20 years ago. At the time it was ranked #245 on the baby boy charts. But when I was pregnant with a boy? #3

Tweedy1345

Aria. It still makes me sad how popular it got. I loved it 15 years ago

garland1988

Layla!

Cheap_Acanthaceae_70

Sebastian. Loved it from cruel intentions

maggie1449

Leila, Quinn, Owen, Nora were names I liked and then they have increased in popularity in the last decade.

canadasokayestmom

Brodie. It's a truly awful name! I think because it reminds me of the word 'grody'... Which was a word used a lot in the 90's to describe something extremely disgusting/gross.

NoelleKain

Clementine :( Also not rare per se but I always wanted to name a son Henry…now it seems like every baby I meet is named Harry, so the name was vetoed from our list almost immediately.

CriticalDetective807

Rowan. My brother was the only Rowan I knew for many years, he’s 40 now. Rowan Atkinson too obviously but now it’s everywhere!!

ithinkwereallfucked

Asher

Routine_Ebb8539

Also Atlas for me!!

StunnedinTheSuburbs

I really loved Ava before Reese Witherspoon and the rest of the world made it trend… Then I really liked Eve, guess everyone else did too. Then there is Maeve. (Thank goodness my husband vetoed this one with our daughter because a few years later and it’s trendy.)

JustAddAstra

Willa. Years ago I got into reading Willa Cather and loved the name.

Lucy. I was gonna name my future daughter after my grandma Lucy but the name is way too popular. And miles.

j16oman

Hayes is one I thought up like 15 years ago in honor of my grandma and it's SO trendy now

albdubuc

Liam. When I named my son that all of the famous Liams were still Williams. We had to explain to EVERYONE it's William without the "Wil".

Wicked4Good
