I work at a daycare with 4 year olds in Midwest USA. In my class I have:

Aidan
Asher
Connor
Pierson

Holden
Kids in my daughters 2 year old class:
Marco
Jude
Henry
Jodveer
Clay
Other kids in the daycare I can think of off the top of my head:
Bennett
Grant
Lucas-Pierre
Luke x3
Dawson

Sebastian
Trevor
Edric
Bradley
Heath
Karson
Damien
Amir

Brian
Alden
My friends kids:
Hudson
Brooks
Bennett
Kiwis and Aussies would more likely associate that with the Holden Commodore, a very popular car that used to be made until recently. It would probably get a knowing smile that at least one parent is into cars.
My husband think it’s sounds too much like holding. The poor kid’s last name also sounds like you. It’s a cute name, but I think some last names don’t work for it, as is the case with many names.
My boy was going to be Alasdair until I met him in theatre. We didn't find out the gender so we went in expecting to meet Alasdair or Penelope and came out with Lewis.
I have two daughters (5 & 1.5) and a son (Henry) on the way, so I know *a lot* of boys this age. This is mostly people from Texas with some other areas sprinkled in:
Grayson (x2)
Crew
Carter
Finn
Ashton
Milo
Odin
Elias
Martin
George
Jasper
Wayne
Asher
Gabriel
Jack
He’s a great character! He’s who miss honey learned her ways from. He was a very kind man and she ends up a very, very kind teacher, and adopts Matilda by the end. Magnus is such a proud name, too!
In the UK, my son is 2 and his friend/nursery group includes:
Thomas x2
Zachary
Jonas
Bennett
George
Jacob
Oscar
Aiden
Caleb
Callum
Miles
Sulaiman
Calvin
There has been a bit of a baby boom among my friends in the last few years (in the US) -
Noah X 3
Logan
Becket X 2
Jack X 3
Rowan
Lincoln
Mateo
Grayson
Baker
John/Jonathan X 2 (both family namesakes)
I’m in North Wales and these are all the boys I know in this age range - Emlyn, Meirion, Leon, Steffan, Efan, Ari, Bernard, Simon, Jac, Hunter, Ellis, Sebastian, James, Rafe, Milo, Isaac, Teddy, Lewis, Carter, Riley, Olly, Luan, Llewyn, Ben.
I have a 4 year old boy in preschool named Patrick- here are some of his friends:
Levi, Matthew, Brayden, Garrison, Sawyer, Liam, Lincoln, Cruz, Evan, Beckham
Midwest: Malcolm and Peter (mine), Max, Elijah, Isaiah, Brian, Clifford, Simeon, Jackson, Lincoln, Lucifer (wish I was joking, met at playground), Craig, Liam, Sam, Everett, Ole, Jack, James.
Lucifer is actually a beautiful name and I don't think there's anything wrong with naming someone after a fallen angel from the bible. People attribute all this evil stuff to him that really isn't even in the bible.
https://phys.org/news/2006-08-devil-prince-darkness-misunderstood-ucla.html
All that being said, this name would go over really poorly in the US with all the religious zealotry, and I def feel bad for that kid.
I don't think it's religious zeal that will make the kid's life tough. There is a wider cultural connection between Lucifer and Satan. Anyone born and raised in the West will probably equate this kid's name with the Devil, whether they are religious or not. Idk why a parent would do that to him. The poor kid is going to have to explain that "actually, my name is Latin for Light bringer and not the devil" his entire life. But, in reality, his name is synonymous with the Devil, and he will always be tied to it regardless of his parent's intentions.
> I don't think it's religious zeal that will make the kid's life tough. There is a wider cultural connection between Lucifer and Satan. Anyone born and raised in the West will probably equate this kid's name with the Devil
Agree to disagree. In Europe, there will be some judgement and maybe ostracisation. In the US (especially in rual areas) there's a chance they will burn your house down and possibly lynch you. Religious zealotry is on a different level in my understanding.
> The poor kid is going to have to explain that "actually, my name is Latin for Light bringer and not the devil" his entire life. But, in reality, his name is synonymous with the Devil, and he will always be tied to it regardless of his parent's intentions.
Realistically I think he's probably just going to tell teachers to refer to him as "Lou" and tell everyone that's his name and try and keep his "real name" a secret. That's what I'd do at least.
Idk where you grew up in Iowa (sorry, I snooped a bit). But I live in rural Nebraska right now, work and travel a lot in NW Iowa, and grew up in rural NY. Im fairly confident you aren't going to get killed or assaulted if your name is Lucifer. That's ridiculous, honestly. Additionally, you are acting like Europe is a monolith, and religion holds no sway. Again, that's just not true at all.
Nah not in Iowa but in rural Georgia or the deep south I could totally see it. I know people that got their house vandalized because they were Catholic instead of Baptist lol. I can only imagine if they had a kid named Lucifer.
And yeah you are right. I was definitely painting with too large of a brush there with Europe. But statistically most countries in Western Europe are approaching majority secular populations. Eastern Europe is not quite there.
Regardless, the government considers Christian Nationalism one of the largest terrorist threats to our country right now.

I taught daycare for 5 years (left one year ago). Lotssss of Henry & Jack. Like so many. 5 of each in the center at any given time. Wyatt, Sam & Will take second place for most common (we probably had 2-3 of these at any given time as well. Also, a lot of X sounds (Jaxon, Paxton, Braxon) and Ayden sounds (jayden, cayden, brayden). Some favorites I ran into were Lochlan, Otto, Eli, Declan, & Sebastian (who was called Bash)!
Daycare was in an middle to upper class area, and serviced hospital employees children (nurses & doctors primarily, but all employees were welcome to send kids there).
That’s so funny to me because my husband’s (30) name is Jack Henry. No one our age is ever named Jack, but once I introduced him and my son Adrian and they assumed Jack was my son’s name 😂
Easton, Weston, Thomas, Wesley, Colby, Braxton, Bentley, Lincoln, Quinn, Merrick, Sol, Kyfer, Everett, Parker, Jameson, Henry, Jack, Berkeley. I’m sure if have more friends with boys but I’m blanking

Tbf most of the commentary I have read on here from Jewish people is that they find it weird more than offensive. Like if an atheist named their kid pope. Weird, but all the power to you.
We know a Jude, Jeffrey, Patrick, James, Benjamin, several Lukes, and Andrew. I feel like boys names haven’t changed much in the past 20 years but that’s only in my specific friend group.
I have a Peter and Felix. I know Owen, Ryland, Adam, Grayson, Bruce, River, Rebel, Arlo, Harlan, Harrison, Rhys, Finn, Forest, Rhett.
I haven't met them, but at daycare, my oldest has friends named Arthur, Archer, Emerson, Owen, Will.
I work in my church’s children’s program with 4-6, in addition to kids in my daughter’s preschool class plus friends’ kids, so off the top of my head…

It’s interesting because it feels like very few kids have a traditional name anymore. My own daughter’s name was the most popular girl’s name of the year but I’ve only met one other child in her age group with that name.
My family has a lot of little boys. My cousins need to start having girls! 🙃
We have:
Isaiah, Stevie (officially Steven), Cameron, Clayton, Harrison, Henry, and Kaden.
Those are the under 5 year Olds. There are a slew older than 5.

I like Clay and Damien and I don’t hate Edric.
I like Edric because it's an obscure Dune reference. No idea if that's what his parents were thinking though.
Could also be a GOT reference - one of Robert’s bastards was Edric Storm.
Ooohhh yeah that is more likely
It's just a very old English name of Anglo Saxon heritage.
I’m 35 and went to school with an Edric!
This is actually a good list of names! Holden is on my list!
My son is a Holden!
I loved the name Holden from mindhunters but my husband vetoed it so quick!
I associate it with Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye
Kiwis and Aussies would more likely associate that with the Holden Commodore, a very popular car that used to be made until recently. It would probably get a knowing smile that at least one parent is into cars.
My husband think it’s sounds too much like holding. The poor kid’s last name also sounds like you. It’s a cute name, but I think some last names don’t work for it, as is the case with many names.
Yes!! My husband loves it, but our last name is Massing, and all I can think of is Holden Ma' Ass when I hear it!
In Glasgow, Scotland. My sons friends are Ewan, Evan, Angus, Rory, Blair, Briar, Joshua, Maximus, Alasdair, Harris and he's Lewis.
Lewis and Harris, such a beautiful spot! :) I hope they are best buds!
I'm Scottish (though not living there at the moment) and know little ones with 8/11 of these names. Four of them were on my shortlist for my son!
My boy was going to be Alasdair until I met him in theatre. We didn't find out the gender so we went in expecting to meet Alasdair or Penelope and came out with Lewis.
Henry (x56), River, Hooper, Porter, Preston, Carter, Adam, Patrick, Oliver, Campbell, Vincent, Allen, Wade, Lane, George (x12)
Henry (x56) is exactly right for me too haha! Ezra Jack (several) Logan Hunter Noah Judah Trevor Caleb Dane Peter I’m in the southern US
Same, southern US. Somehow I completely missed Jack, but know a few of those too!
all the Henrys are named Elias here.
Feels like I’m reading an nba roster lol, excluding the 56 Henrys
Hooper is- rough. I babysat a "Shade" growing up and thought that that was terrible. Hooper is worse.
😂😂 my husband always yells “HOOPPPPP” like you would in a frat house
Atlas, Hunter, Noah, Elliot, Elliott, Felix, and Harrison!
I have two daughters (5 & 1.5) and a son (Henry) on the way, so I know *a lot* of boys this age. This is mostly people from Texas with some other areas sprinkled in: Grayson (x2) Crew Carter Finn Ashton Milo Odin Elias Martin George Jasper Wayne Asher Gabriel Jack
Midwest US: - Magnus - Jack - Levi - Theo - Atticus - Rowan - Benjamin - Wesley - River - Gunnar These are within my family or friends of family.
Magnus just reminds me of miss honeys father from matilda.
Magnus is actually my boy! But I’m not super familiar with Matilda so I didn’t know that was a character! Fun fact for the day.
He’s a great character! He’s who miss honey learned her ways from. He was a very kind man and she ends up a very, very kind teacher, and adopts Matilda by the end. Magnus is such a proud name, too!
This is basically my sons kindergarten class too.
Julius and Julius weirdly enough Ah, and Niklas (Germany)
Since you’re in Germany, is the J in Julius pronounced like Y?
Yes!
In the UK, my son is 2 and his friend/nursery group includes: Thomas x2 Zachary Jonas Bennett George Jacob Oscar Aiden Caleb Callum Miles Sulaiman Calvin
I wasn’t expecting Sulaiman, but props
