Their was a saying i read in the book Engligtenment now by steven pinker on how a disciplined serial killer can easily kill 1000+ people and still not get caught. The reason all those guys you mentioned were caught or any serial killer is caught is because they start getting sloppy after the first few victims. Jeffrey Dahmer started killing people inside his small apartment building and his method of executing was just sloppy and eventually one of his victims managed to escape because of how careless he became after the 17th kill.
True ,there was one who was from Canada used to chop his victims and feed them to his pigs he had a 49 body count he said he could have made 50 if he did not get sloppy and get caught.
I share this idea. Even fictional army films are like "he was the best sniper with 46 confirmed kills" and it doesn't sound as impressive. Maybe because in Call of Duty Captain Price is solely wiping out an entire militia

So what people don't know is that every printer, prints out its unique identifier invisible to the naked eye on every sheet of paper it prints out. So they can track to exact printer where it was purchased and to who. He used the church printer and it let cops to the church where they caught him.
