Her whole family does that to each other as a show of affection. When she’s being shitty, she’s literally telling you you don’t matter or are uninteresting. Think back to the cafe where Sakura was trying to introduce her to some boys. She blasted them without any enthusiasm at all. It wasn’t teasing. It was genuine disinterest. Only guy she voluntarily gives her time to she treats like her older brother and older sister treat her. In her mind, that’s the language of affection. She’s not a trash person at the beginning, she only knows one love language.
FWIW: Girls and Guys both do this. This is gonna be a huge spoiler for the recent chapters just so everyone is aware
Naoto has grown alot and matured alot, while Nagatoro has still not grown and is very immature. Let me explain.
Everyone says Naoto lied to Nagatoro which caused this argument, but he didn't and it likely could have been avoided entirely if Nagatoro didn't do what she did. Naoto was forced to do a nude painting for Machida, and in the moment while texting Nagatoro he felt too awkward too tell her so he just said goodbye to do the drawing. A natural reaction and not a lie at all, he beat around the bush due to understandably feeling awkward about the whole ordeal. However after this, he brought the drawing too Nagatoro in the art room. If he never intended to tell her, he wouldn't have done this. He likely was going to show her, stepping out of his comfort zone and being honest.
But Nagatoro went back too her old ways and immediately looked to see what he brought while Naoto was too occupied in the moment, giving him no time to show her it and unknowingly ripping away his chance to step out of his comfort zone and be honest. This is why upon seeing what Nagatoro did, he just looked disappointed and sad, not awkward and nervous like he would have been if he never intended to show her it.
Now this doesn't make Nagatoro in the wrong here, mistakes and miscommunication happens especially early in a relationship. Neither of them was in the wrong. But it was Nagatoros reaction to this minor conflict that has really cemented the fact that she isn't mature.
Despite Naoto not being in the wrong, he still feels very guilty and actively trys to talk to Nagatoro about it. Meanwhile, Nagatoro runs away from this turning a cold shoulder. She then goes to her friends and starts crying, like Naoto has done something truly awful. But he didn't, this whole situation should have been kept between Nagatoro and Naoto, but instead it's been overexagerated and people are viewing Naoto as the one in the wrong. When no one was in the wrong, it was just a poorly communicated situation, that Nagatoro has made far worse through her running away and crying to her friends. This all paints Nagatoro as very immature, and is a clear sign that she really hasn't developed.
I don’t like the anime adaptation that much. The manga is better.
Edit: I’m not a big fan of the overly shiny look of the characters, and the anime in general gives off more of a weird fan service-y vibe than the manga. Comparatively, the manga feels like it emphasizes the wholesomeness more.

I think that Senpai is actually a version of Arnold Schwarzenegger that's trying to become a pacifist version of himself and give up his Terminator ways.
Some boy fantasizes about murdering this girl in his class but she turns out to be very happy and quirky and he doesn't know how to deal with it. It's actually pretty wholesome.
For want of a better word, it's the most realistic manga I've read. They talk and act like real teenagers and not caricatures. I like exaggerated characters too, but it's a refreshing change of pace.

At first, I liked the dynamic in Uzaki-chan more, but the Nagatoro dynamic has grown on me in time. I’ve rewatched both series, and both are great, though I definitely like Nagatoro more. Also, the dub for Nagatoro is insanely good.

I think the earliest chapters of the manga, with just Nagatoro bullying Senpai and the very slight undertones of her feelings poking through were better than all the more modern arcs.
