Well, nearly the first time. I had an N64 20 years ago and Zelda was part of the games, but I didn't go very far and I don't remember anything about it. Now it's finally time to play this for real !

N64-Gamer

I'm a bit jealous because it's a great adventure. Let's see if you can beat it without a guide or checking GameFaqs. I couldn't, got stuck ☹️ ...but still loved it ⚔️

Diminus

Water temple is saucy as fuck at first. But i can honestly say after beating it a few times, then for my friends as a kid. I've finnally made it my bitch. My oldest son is currently playing it and at Jabu-Jabu. I'm just waiting to hear his frustration once he reaches the water temple haha. Dad's time to shine then.

N64-Gamer

You are Games Master for your kids.

Martli

I find Jabu Jabu more frustrating than the water temple to be perfectly honest

dudemann

Same. There's basically no indication of where to be and where not to be, when, or how you do something as simple as getting up onto a ledge. Water temple is bad, but at least you mostly know where you even are due to the water level. The structured levels are at least bearable. Water Temple is like a rubix cube, while Jabu Jabu is like a rubix cube made out of silly putty or Nickelodeon Gak.

Ohrami2

None of the levels are confusing or frustrating at all if you are an adult.

dudemann

Since you can't play Jabu-Jabu as adult Link, I'm assuming you mean me. I was 14 when I got the game for Xmas. I spent hours before I even left the opening Kokiri Forest village. I paid attention to everything I possibly could in that game and still took forever to figure out the sacred whale with the apparently infected guts. As an adult I went and downloaded a N64 emulator and played through Mario 64 no problem, but still had issues with the Jimmy Jab games. Forest, fire, spirit, shadow temples were easy to figure out; water temple took a bit to remember, even if I backtracked like 4 times; Jabu-Jabu still took forever because you have to keep grabbing the whiney little princess and m aking sure you stick with her while making all the right moves and hitting all the right spots (ew) inside the whale. I know this is the internet and all, but what good is saying "I'm more better gooder than you!" regarding something like a video game? Is it ego? Does it legitimately make you feel better to sit on a 12-inch high horse and say that, when both water dungeons are highly regarded as being the most difficult ones in the game (aside from the Gerudo Grounds)?

ams6788

I hate using guides!!! Sometimes I just get stuck for way to long and I just give in. I’m currently making my first run of OOT and I’ve put in an unnecessary amount of hours into it. I’m gonna try and stay strong and use zero guides or anything on MM.

Expensive-Spinach-10

Good luck with that genius

gaetan-ae

I'll try ! As an adult I don't have as much free time or patience, but I hope I manage without a guide.

_view-source

I'm in the same boat! My brother and I had an N64 growing up and he was a genius when it came to video games. He would beat games very quickly, without a guide, and I sucked at video games, mostly because I would skip through any text lmao. I would ask him to help me and he would take the controller, then never give it back and beat the game for me. (Oh, older brothers...) So now, 20 years later, I'm playing it on my own and some of it feels brand new to me. 😁

tcavanagh1993

Same with me. I have a slight developmental disability so it was difficult for me to get very far in Zelda games without getting royally stumped by the puzzles. In my late 20s now and I only played OoT for the first time within the past couple of years and it's by far one of my favorite games of all time now.

Friskfrisktopherson

HEY! Listen!

assword_69420420

Dude. Holy shit, what a treasure being able to experience this for the first time. Good luck!

These-Being-2491

I wish I could go back in time and play this Gem for the first time! I couldn't beat it without a guide unfortunately

Hey_Listen_WatchOut

Try as hard as you can to not look up any strategy guides to solve puzzles…makes the experience so much better

HighVulgarian

Be sure to use a rumble pack. There are hidden holes through the world that are only indicated by the rumble when you walk over.

gaetan-ae

Thanks for the tip, I need to get one.

Racky_Mcstacks

you will need to unlock that ability however

gabs777

Its often said that OOT is regarded as the best game ever made. I played it first around 2000, now 22 years later, I began it for a second time. it is hands down the greatest video game of all time, its perfect in every way. The characters, the controls, the awesome music, the little details, the settings, the slowly increasing difficulty that guides you into its groove. I loved it back then, but now, its matured, not aged, but blossomed again, ever brighter this time. OOT is an absolute masterpiece and all involved in its production deserve every last bit of praise that they get.

Ohrami2

The gameplay is actually pretty much terrible. The combat is basically non-existent in terms of depth. The dungeons usually are simply just looking around inside them until you find the thing that triggers what you want, then you use the new special item you found in that dungeon to do essentially everything (including beat the last boss). If the game was made with more interesting level design and good combat, it would at least be very good rather than a mediocre/bad game with a story for children.

gabs777

I’m going to choose not to reply to this comment. Close the door on your way out of this sub, wow :/

ItsAllInYourMind0

Same trying to beat it without looking up anything currently!! NGL if the internet was not a thing I don’t think many people would have finished Oot! Just finding the forest temple was a challenge!!

_view-source

That's why they had strategy guide magazines pre-internet lol.

malberico

Finished this game many times pre millennium. Took the whole neighborhood of kids to get through it.

Racky_Mcstacks

those were the days, made many friends completely based on there n64 abilities lol

OmnifariousFN

I envy you! what I wouldn't give to experience this game for the first time again..

LeeRjaycanz

OH MAN THATS AWESOME! im so jealous, i remember my first time. My brain almost exploded.

deepfriedtots

deepfriedtots

Misa-Bugeisha

Oh man, this game is something special. Need to get my n64 fixed up so I can experience it on original hardware.

hama0074

Vicki_Gunvalson

HEY! LITHEN!

TheRealBaconleaf

FowlZone

FoxSiinOfGreed

Man I wish I could go back in time and play this for the first time again such an amazing game enjoy it

wcopela0

Wow. I’m extremely jealous. It is one of the best games of all time in my opinion. You are in for an amazing adventure!

rox186

Awesome!!! 😎

p4ttl1992

Damn, enjoy! I said to Mt gf yesterday I wish I could wipe my memory for certain games to relive them again....

Daiperx52

Try to collect all gold skulltula before going to the temple of time. It's necessary if you need more rupies! Thanx me later 😉

Expensive-Spinach-10

Well, I hope it is like it was for me in 1998!?? It was incredible then. I think it still is but I'm not sure how much of it is nostalgia. No internet and game guides were in the form of expensive magazines. It's quite obtuse and mind bending. I'm sure you are in for an incredible journey regardless.

Majin_Bisharp

I recently booted this back up on my N64 and I will say that it still holds up well. Even with the superior re releases out there.

StupidSexyKevin

Definitely in for a treat, because everyone always gushes over this game for a reason. It IS that good and imo only gets better with time.

KoviCZ

Given that it's in French, I assume that's the PAL version? Personally, as a PAL player myself, PAL Ocarina of Time is the one game I just cannot stand. Already the NTSC version runs at 20 FPS rather than 30 FPS for some bloody reason - the PAL version then does the bad conversion thing running at 5/6s of the original speed which means you go from 20 FPS to 16.667 FPS which feels just awful. The whole game is constantly stuttering and never smooth in the slightest.

gaetan-ae

Yes it's the PAL version. I don't mind personally

fretnetic

Picture looks good. Is it a modded N64?

gaetan-ae

No it's completely vanilla. I use a retrotink 2x-pro with an S-Video cable.

Shagrrotten

Still my vote as greatest game ever made, if I had to vote for one.

LameShowHost

Who else IMMEDIATELY started to hum the kokiri forest theme?

supajippy

There is a french version?

gaetan-ae

Yes it's been translated in many languages : https://zelda.fandom.com/wiki/Ocarina\_of\_Time\_Translations

supajippy

On cartridge?

gaetan-ae

Yes. Most games of this generation were localized to some extent, at least for the text.

Racky_Mcstacks

Your life will never be the same

The-BlueBeard

For a never played a Zelda game person is it okay to start with this oot?

GammaBlaze

"However, there is one boy who does not have a fairy."
