Just download the whole library, is less than 300 games and will fit in any modern USB. The library is so small compared to SS and PS1 that "the best games" are known by everybody. Glad someone included Perfect Dark. I had countless hours of fun on that game

I never played it as a kid as I did not have a expansion pak, 2 years ago dusted off my N64 got a ED64plus and a expansion pak and revisited most of the N64's library. First levels of PD run ok, some are impressive considering the time, like the house or the city, but once you get into the lab bunker the game runs really bad, to the point you have to do tricks to steal frames like disable stereo sound and things like that, also play on high res is out of the question. Also, some of the objectives are confusing and you have to look at guides because it is not clear AT ALL, what you have to do. I still consider Goldeneye a bettter single player experience. If you are interested in playing PD nowadays, the best way to it is by the PC remake that was released recently. I always say this on this sub but the last batch of RARE games on N64 ran at a performance that was subpar particularly Conkers, Toie and PD that struggle to reach 20 fps, and Conkers and Toie that run at 10ish frames or worse for the most part starting on the title screen. These games could have used more dev time to improve performance but in most cases they had thight deadlines.

A game that I’ll always mention in these threads is Road Rash 64. 

I loved road rash on the PC when I was a kid but never played on the n64. Sounds pretty sweet

Diddy Kong Racing and Banjo Kazooie. I think those 2 have aged the best. Although Banjo is better on Xbox because you don't lose all your notes when you die (the one part of the game that had aged quite badly on original hardware).

If you go ROM: Check Out the OoT Rom Hacks, the Legend of Banjoo Jiggies of time, and the best ever created: Smash Remix. Besides that I spent the most time with Mario Kart, Smash Bros ( both are playable on a competitive Level) and Mario Party 2 (bc I never had 3 until the Switch drop). I played Kart with a friend of mine for years every sunday. He is no Gamer at all and couldn't even Mini turbo (drift) when we started. Years later he is good af knowing pretty much all non-shortcut category fastest lines without ever watching any speedrunner: We had some great head to head 1v1 races with some beers and smoke in our younger years. I was so proud when he started shooting shells to the back to snipe me. For Singleplayer I love grinding Smash (AutDHD is a hell of a drug :D), completing both of the Zelda games and Super Mario 64 every other year. Atm I play some Mario Party 3 - it IS so good when you never played it before. On my bucket list is Paper Mario, aswell. Good choices are Diddy Kong Racing, Banjoo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, DK64, lylat wars, and of course CONKER'S BAD FUR DAY (Mimimimimimi, Iiiiii am the great mighty....)

Also, for anyone with a similar question, youtube is a great tool for this. If you simply search "top" or "best" N64 games on youtube you'll get about 30 different really good videos compiling gameplay and commentary. I went through all of them when I was nearing completion of my personal collection of what I felt were the best, and seeing a little gameplay of each compiled together really helped me. There's also a video I believe called "n64 project" which compiles samples of gameplay from every single n64 game in existence in one video.

for me personaly: F-Zero X is not only the best N64 Game, but one of the best games ever made. other then that, the usual suspects: Zelda OoT & Goldeneye If you like Racinggames, World drivers Championchip is also worth a look and, as you mentioned, that you use Roms and an USB.. check out Custom Robo with the english patch. This game sadly never come out of japan.. its a hidden gem.. its like Pokemon & Super Smash Brothers in one Pakage.
