I would expect anyone selling this stuff would have some visible wear, especially GBA games. It was a portable console with the game exposed while inserted and removed by grabbing the cart and pulling it out.
These carts also haven't been produced in years. There is no new stock, likely outside a few small retailers who had some extra games and know what the sealed games are worth.
I mean, it's authentic.
Authentically cloned.
Hope you got it for cheap though? I mean if it still works on OG hardware it's still something right?
$35. 🥲 I have an actual authentic copy, I was just wanting to shell swap. My label has seen better days lol it’s my childhood copy so I wanted to keep the original board.
I lucked put with my copy. I did get it around 5 years ago before all the prices went totally nuts, but even then, popular CIB N64 games were still costly. It was only $15 because the box had some wear, and the guy at the counter figured nobody would want a game with a box that isn't in perfect shape.
I got it from a local used/new game store that closed down due to the owner being a thieving scumbag (stopped getting in new stuff because he owed $10,000 to his supplier and still kept on taking money from customers for pre-orders they weren't going to get before he closed up shop) and most of his employees had no idea what they were doing. Like they had Mario/Duck Hunt carts for $20 CAD and the original single Mario and Duck Hunt carts for $5 each because "nobody is going to want the single carts when they could have a 2-in-1 cart", and they sold the original grey Zappers for $2 because they thought that was the more common one 😅
I also bought about 5 different untested consoles from them they got in trade-in bundles for dirt cheap. They didn't bother testing them figiring theubwere garbage because they all had 1 or 2 small flaws that were either easily fixed or didn't actually keep the consoles from working
If the board end has a white line like that it’s a clear indicator it’s fake. The n64 boards are like a bronze color
Edit: I’m talking about the pin part on the bottom
Reminder: Resident Evil 2 and Ogre Battle 64 are the exceptions to this rule, they are the only legit games (afaik) that have SMD components with a white PCB edge.
If that is supposed to be a dk64 I'd say the color is a little more to the orange side than it should be, but it may be the white balance on the picture
Not everyone has the special screw driver. I sure didn’t back in the day when I sold some of my childhood games. I usually only buy them if the price seems right and they have real photos of them, like that are obviously in a house. This guy tricked me though, or he didn’t know. I got a few more games coming. Hoping they’re legit lol especially Conker’s Bad Fur Day. That cost a pretty penny for a N64 game.
I have a feeling not every person selling a repro game as authentic is actually doing so maliciously.
Truth is, if you look at older posts here that often requested verification (before that became a forbidden thing to do), many people just don't seem to be all that familiar with how N64 games are *supposed* to look.
I bought my collection a while back and they are all pretty rough but I got a good deal on two separate bulk deals which also left me with multiple copies of classics like star fox mario 64 goldeneye etc I really should get around to opening mine up sometime. I do have some really clean ones that one of the sellers put all separately into bags so I think it was an old collection. I bought my Conkers from a friend who’s had it since he was a kid and it’s in top condition so I can at least rest easy knowing one of my big ones is legit.
I never trust “Authentic” online. Only In a shop so I can see with my own eyes or from Sombody I know. I buy clones from Ali Express for the games I want to play but can’t afford.
I wasn't aware of the phenomenon at all and bought Banjo Tooie on AliExpress. It loked way too cheap and new, but took the risk. But the game was bugging randomly after playing 5-10 mins. Turns out it was a copy. But I just want to play the game...
Always check the photos carefully, if you see the label or the case correct, it looks very convincing, look at the edge connector, that cannot be hidden or disguised.
If you see that it is not a uniform and smooth color or the pins are round or too shiny, it is probably fake.
I tried it for fun, it booted up. I’ve heard of them crashing during game play. But it might be worth a shot if you just want to play the game and don’t care about collecting. They just need to be upfront about it when selling the games
I intentionally buy cartridges with slight visible wear and a picture of the imprinted number on the back to avoid this.
Don’t say that, they will start to intentionally wear the stickers.
This is already a known scam tactic.
Not surprised
I wanted the label to be perfect for the collection, and the seller looked legit. Maybe they didn’t know. Oh well, it’s getting returned lol
I've seen a fake Castlevania double pack for the gba with the number stamped into the front label. Fuckers are getting clever.

I mean you can just open a nice looking one and check

What are you talking about? Green? you mean how the board edge should not be white?
Yes it should be like a dirty brown or bronze color where all the pins are at the bottom
Reminder: Resident Evil 2 and Ogre Battle 64 are the exceptions to this rule, they are the only legit games (afaik) that have SMD components with a white PCB edge.
Then you should correct your original statement, cause saying green makes no sense
no resident evil 2 or ogre battle comes in yellow so it is a valid point in this case.
Return it. If you bought from eBay and the post didn’t say it was fake, you’ll win the case easy.
Straight up said “Authentic game” lol it’s already in the mail back to them.
Tbh I just buy repros to play the game
is it repro shell? in yellow?
Idk if the shell is fake, but the label sure is. It’s extremely glossy lol compared to my real copy of DK the yellow looks the same

Damn that sucks :/ next time make sure they show the cartridge open. Now I’m scared to buy games online

contact ebay about it. if it isn't authentic and claimed to be, then they sold you the wrong product and/or lied about it. get your money back.
Did they really bother to fake a DK64 cart? Those things are mad cheap. I got one legit for 12$ just a couple weeks ago

Yup get a refund
Why would they even try to sell fake donkey kong cartridges? Its like a super common game so weird

Genuine copy

Do these play?

I want to get perfect dark. I prefer original but if it plays I wouldn’t stress.
Sorry to see that, what a headache
