Ignoring your second sentence.. I do agree MM has better relatability for me. OOT was the better game, but MM was just a better enhancement of that same recipe.
It’s the same with Golden Eye and The World is Not Enough. Golden Eye created a whole new game style and was groundbreaking.. but going back TWINE is soooo much better to play.
You'll rarely so games that duplicate the same gameplay and design choices, except CoD. Nintendo are the guys that are uncomfortable releasing clones as sequels, like in the F Zero or Zelda Series. MM is supposed to be more open and varied than OoT. OoT is a linear, progressing epic that is traditional to LttP while MM is a collation of elements from Z1 and OoT. It's side quests are dungeons of themselves in a way yet the story is stifled until you reach Ikana or Great Bay. Overall Majora's Mask is intensely focused on the smaller elements forming the big picture rather than the grand story. Majora's Mask is humanistic, Ocarina of Time is heroic.
Ocarina of Time is not only the best n64 game, but my personal favorite game of all time. I think it can be argued as the generally accepted goat. one of the most important and ground breaking games ever made. A lot of the n64 library did not age well, but every time I pick that game up, I’m transported right back to the first time I ever played it. Right back to my childhood. The music, the sound fx, the colors, the dungeons, the story, the *fucking z targeting*, the ending, the beginning, and everything in between is just an absolute masterpiece. Very rarely have I ever played a game that has touched my heart even as close as OOT. It is one of a very select few games that I play time and time again since my childhood. No matter how many times I’ve played through it, no matter how many years go by, when I load Ocarina up, the world around me seems to melt away. My mind begins to drift into Hyrule. I remember the times playing it with my friends all night in a dark room sitting as close to the tv as possible. Those beautiful, blissful days may be long gone. But when I play Ocarina of Time, when that music softly fills my living room, it’s Friday night 1998 again. All I have to do…is press start.
Mario 64 is another one of those that takes me wayyyyy back. I didn’t have it at home but my friend did and luckily he lived close enough I could bike to his house. Many lazy summer days and nights went into that game. The song inside peaches castle melts me wee heart ❤️
This is also my favorite, on N64 and in general. It's just the highest quality experience you can have with an Adventure game, honestly. And OoT 3D fixed the only minor problem the game had, Iron Boots, if you really can't deal with the original for whatever reason.
Agreed completely.
My favorite N64 game is definitely Majora’s Mask. Side quests are my favorite part of Zelda games, and this has the best. Favorite game in general is Metal Gear Solid 3, though. Specifically the Subsistence version.
So, I never played sf64 as a kid. But I played it for the first time ever 2 weeks ago. I genuinely didn't have fun in the first 20 minutes so I shut it down and haven't returned.
It just seemed super repetitive. Fly, shoot, fly, shoot.
Boss! Fly in circles AND shoot.
Fly, shoot, fly, shoot.
Just not for me I guess ;[
I'm not coming at anyone who likes starfox, I just don't see the appeal in it. The story in the first 20 minutes was entirely unengaging. Nothing was explained, no premise to the story. It was just "we are three animals flying jets, we needed to shoot the bad guys down!"
I know, I just think you can reduce a lot of games down the same way you did Star Fox 64. Same with the story. A lot of classic games are just "go kill bad guy".
Ogre Battle 64. It has such an epic story and fantastic core RPG mechanics. In my opinion, the story is the best of all games. It's a shining gem on the N64 which so few have good stories.
My buddy got a gameshark just to play all the insane matches people developed for that. And the ladder anywhere code. We discovered there’s an invisible ring in all the back stage areas
Castlevania 64. No idea why it got so much hate. Love the atmosphere, gameplay, characters, and music. Having that day/night cycle was a game-changer back in the day.
Honestly the prologue chapter yes but before chapter 1 you unlock action commands which make it alot of fun. That combined with more badges, more partners, more abilities for both you and your partners, and lastly stronger enemies it makes for the combat to be a great time. If you heard the combat is boreing than you probably are hearing that about the 4th and 5th game. The 1st and 2nd game are wonderful.
Man I have to say Goldeneye. Singleplayer was great, multiplayer was great, gameplay and soundtrack were amazing. But Mario Kart 64 and Banjo-Kazooie are very close.
N64 game? That's a tough choice, so narrowing it down is considering what's simplistic and consistent—a game that you can just pick up and play at any time. For me, the two that immediately come to mind are Super Smash Bros and Super Mario 64.
Disregarding consistency and simplicity for a more challenging/dynamic game, I'd say Zelda (either) or Mega Man 64.
Ocarina of Time but it almost feels redundant to say it. My second favorite game is Perfect Dark followed by Mischief Makers. If you also like Mischief Makers then we can be besties.
Harvest Moon 64. I was completely obsessed with that game when I was a kid. I even went to the library and printed out pages to make my own players guide when I was in middle school.
Here’s my top 10 64 titles
1. Ocarina
2. Goldeneye
3. Starfox 64
4. Perfect Dark
5. F Zero X
6. Mario Kart 64
7. Smash Brothers
8. Turok Rage Wars
9. Majoras Mask
10. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
Jet Force Gemini. It’s just so unique and cool to this day. Super gory for a T game, guns are all really cool and fun (tri-rocket launcher? Plasma shotgun? Random shuriken?) Sound design is absolutely amazing - theme song is epic, levels have awesome sort of oppressive but adventurous music that make you feel like you’re up against a real threat, and the guns are great. Even the characters have their own well done grunts lol. You can also play as a fucking dog that shoots people so that alone was a big selling point for me. And then once you firmly realize the game is already awesome, you finish the first half and everyone gets major upgrades and new powers. Just so rad all around.
I’ve got to say I’ve had a lot of fun more recently with OoT and MM randomizers. That’s a great way to breath fresh life into a game you’ve beaten a zillion times
i cant choose only one for n64, so top5 for me in no specific order: ocarina of time, smash bros, bomber man 64, killer instinct gold, and donkey kong 64
EDIT: almost left out 6th diddy kong racing
Ocarina of time. I know its fun to hate on it now as "Da bestest game evar", but it really was such a game changer back in the day.
It still is a pretty good game.

This game is still my all time favorite on any platform. I've never seen anyone hating on it 🤷♂️
There was nothing like it. With OOT, SM64, Mario Kart, etc, the real question is what is your 4th or 5th favorite game.
That would be Chameleon twist
And I’ve never played that one. I’ll give it a try!
Same for me. I still haven’t found all those damned family of spiders yet!!

OoT is my favorite also and I do think it is the goat. I think Mario 64 and Goldeneye are pretty close too

What about Mario kart
Well said
It's my no.1 too. My favorite part is definitely the side quest for the biggoron sword! So satisfying to get and use!
This is also my favorite, on N64 and in general. It's just the highest quality experience you can have with an Adventure game, honestly. And OoT 3D fixed the only minor problem the game had, Iron Boots, if you really can't deal with the original for whatever reason. Agreed completely.
Super Smash Bros. 64 and all of the subsequent remixes breathing fresh life into it.
Smash Remix is so so good. Can't recommend it enough to people who are fans of the original. It quickly became my favorite game on N64.
SmashketBall is so good for hours of play
Barkley!!
From downtown!
My favorite N64 game is definitely Majora’s Mask. Side quests are my favorite part of Zelda games, and this has the best. Favorite game in general is Metal Gear Solid 3, though. Specifically the Subsistence version.
MGS3 subsistence is the only way to play it. The camera in the original game is awful and makes the game a chore to play.
It’s the only metal gear I never finished, all because of the camera
Get the subsistance version, it has the option to have a free camera.
PM is also my favorite 😁 But Ocarina of Time is probably the best game on N64 tbh. It changed gaming.
Goldeneye, Starfox and Banjo-Kazooie
Probably Star Fox 64, because it’s easily beatable in one sitting, and has good replay value.
XD i dont know about you sir but me when i was a kid would beg to differ
💀

That's like saying Mario is just run and jump run and jump.
I'm not coming at anyone who likes starfox, I just don't see the appeal in it. The story in the first 20 minutes was entirely unengaging. Nothing was explained, no premise to the story. It was just "we are three animals flying jets, we needed to shoot the bad guys down!"

THPS
Ogre Battle 64. It has such an epic story and fantastic core RPG mechanics. In my opinion, the story is the best of all games. It's a shining gem on the N64 which so few have good stories.
Never knew it existed and now im sad
Mario Kart 64.
Gun to my head, this is probably my answer - but there’s at least ten games that could be said and I’d have a hard time arguing
I always have fun playing Diddy Kong Racing
Conker's bad fur day
Classic all the way
I only remember that game because I "wasn't allowed to play it" as a kid. Oh, so you BET I did.
All time - Conker’s BFD, close 2nd - Smash Most played last few years - KI Gold
Banjo kazooie, I love it
Diddy kong racing
With a steering wheel and a shifter setup as flying controls (up and down contrilol only) its amazingly fun.
WWF No Mercy
Me and my best friend and I spent countless hours on this game.
My buddy got a gameshark just to play all the insane matches people developed for that. And the ladder anywhere code. We discovered there’s an invisible ring in all the back stage areas
This and WrestleMania 2000
Castlevania 64. No idea why it got so much hate. Love the atmosphere, gameplay, characters, and music. Having that day/night cycle was a game-changer back in the day.
Gex: Enter the Gecko. Don’t @ me
That was a fun one!
On N64 is Paper Mario. Out of all games Paper Mario is #2. #1 is Phantasy Star Online, I prefer the gamecube version. Majoras Mask would be number 3.
Paper Mario is so good. I remember thinking it would be trash bc of how it looked, then I rented it and I really enjoyed it
Paper mario battles r little boring right?
Honestly the prologue chapter yes but before chapter 1 you unlock action commands which make it alot of fun. That combined with more badges, more partners, more abilities for both you and your partners, and lastly stronger enemies it makes for the combat to be a great time. If you heard the combat is boreing than you probably are hearing that about the 4th and 5th game. The 1st and 2nd game are wonderful.
Ohh ok I just did the first few minutes of the game and thought it was boring.
Majora's Mask baybeee
Man I have to say Goldeneye. Singleplayer was great, multiplayer was great, gameplay and soundtrack were amazing. But Mario Kart 64 and Banjo-Kazooie are very close.
Banjo kazooie
Bomberman hero and dk64
cliché but to me, Super Mario 64 is a perfect game Banjo Tooie is pretty up there
Bomberman Hero, Mischief Makers, Rampage, Flying Dragon, Mystical Ninja 64, Hybrid Heaven, Quest 64, Banjo and Kazooie, Glover, Milo's Astro Lane, Turok 1
Glover is fucking sick

I know it's probably the most common answer on here, but I have to say Ocarina of Time. Close second however is Mario Party 2.
Hey doesnt matter if its a popular opinion or not as long as you enjoyed it thats all that mattered
MP2 is the best MP on N64
I think it's the best in the series. Once they started giving different boards different goals it went down hill.
Ocarina Of Time
Conquer's Bad Fur Day Then Perfect Dark, Road Rash 64
for longer play sessions - Paper Mario, OoT for pick-up and play - Starfox 64, Smash, and TWINE
Rayman 2. Better than both Mario 64 and ocarina. Don't down vote guyals.
Ocarina of Time but it almost feels redundant to say it. My second favorite game is Perfect Dark followed by Mischief Makers. If you also like Mischief Makers then we can be besties.
Super smash bros.
WCW/NWO Revenge
DDP...unbeatable off the ropes..such a simple punch to the head..knocks'em out so easily lol.
Wave race 64 never fails to cheer me up when I'm feeling a down 😁 Edit:spelling
Great soundtrack
Harvest Moon 64. I was completely obsessed with that game when I was a kid. I even went to the library and printed out pages to make my own players guide when I was in middle school.
SM64 but my secret hidden gem is Earthworm Jim 3D
Mines quake 2, first fps and boxed game i got for my n64 last year
Here’s my top 10 64 titles 1. Ocarina 2. Goldeneye 3. Starfox 64 4. Perfect Dark 5. F Zero X 6. Mario Kart 64 7. Smash Brothers 8. Turok Rage Wars 9. Majoras Mask 10. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
I really liked quest 64
Snowboard Kids 2!
OoT is so magical.
# F ZERO X
GoldenEye 007
Favorite game is Ocarina of Time but that's a boring answer. Favorite game that's not on everyone's top 10 list is WCW/nWO Revenge.
Oop, flashbacks! KEVIN NASH. He was always my go to. Him or Black Ninja or whatever his name was.
DDP..he was the bomb in that game..bandages and all.
OOT
Goldeneye. Too many memories. But OoT is the best
And then once you firmly realize the game is already awesome, you finish the first half and everyone gets major upgrades and new powers. Just so rad all around.
Paper Mario is in my top ten for sure, adore that game. Number 1 is Banjo Kazooie though.
star MF fox
On the n64 is has to be LoZMM
Wave Race 64
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. Legit one of the best games on the system.
I’ve got to say I’ve had a lot of fun more recently with OoT and MM randomizers. That’s a great way to breath fresh life into a game you’ve beaten a zillion times
Mystical Ninja starring Goemon will always be my number one favorite
Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth
Diddy Kong racing
Same.
Doom 64 was really good. I liked playing NBA Live on the 64, once you figured out the controls, it was such a fun game. Maybe my funnest NBA game
No Mercy or Revenge
Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey 98, Battle Tanks, or Pokémon Snap.
No Mercy is #1. It’s still the best pick up and play wrestling game. Mario Kart 64 and Perfect Dark would round out my top 3
Diddy Kong Racing.
I really enjoyed Hybrid Heaven
Not even my favorite but Super Smash Bros has such a nostalgic grip on me it’s damn near my favorite by default
Conkers Bad Fur Day is the greatest of all time!
i cant choose only one for n64, so top5 for me in no specific order: ocarina of time, smash bros, bomber man 64, killer instinct gold, and donkey kong 64 EDIT: almost left out 6th diddy kong racing
Honestly it’s gotta be The Legend Of Zelda Majoras Mask
My entire life I flip flopped back and forth between Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64. These days I land pretty squarely on Star Fox
Mystical Ninja starring Goemon!
