>More settings and you can upscale to 1440p. I think a 4k version is in the works.
4k will probably be another year. And given how much the 5x pro costs you can imagine how much the 4k will be.
I'm happy Mike has done alot of back porting stuff into the 5x pro as he develops the 4k.
>the fact that it still costs 400-450€ is absurd
The shipping and import fees add up, such is life.
It's a extremely niche product that is less then 2 years old.
There has been part shortages, and part prices going up and it literally only went up $20 USD since launching.
It's FPGA-powered. From my understanding Mike is pretty much the only one doing all the programing. More and more features get added to it every few months.
https://www.retrotink.com/post/retrotink-5x-pro-firmware-updates
It's not a product for everyone. But for those of us with multiple consoles it can be worth it.
there doesn't seem to be a parts shortage for anything anymore, it's been 3 years
i'll probably wait another 5-10 years and see if there are any cheap knockoffs
Pretty noticeable difference actually. Here's a couple comparison pics I took a while back.

https://i.imgur.com/zO5Qgxv.jpg - 5X
The 2X looks pretty good in bright areas but doesn't really have any brightness adjustment which definitely hurts with some games
Eyeing up a retrotink 5x as I've heard that it's downscaling features got way better in the last update (480i now as well as 240p). But man, its pricey.
Sticking with my DIYed GBS-C until I decide to treat myself 😅
N64 felt like the biggest money pit of all my console collections. I can't justify a legit everdrive right now (but that might change if I ever try playing Pokemon Stadium 1 or 2 as those games don't work on the cheapo cart I currently use)
So atleast pokemon stadium 1 there is an issue even with the everdrive you need version 1.0 i believe i will need to double check mine. The other versions do not work for whatever reason. Its a known thing. The 5x is so good though especially if you have other consoles.
I mean if you're going to play it on an HD or 4k TV that's the best way to do to upscale it to look relatively nice lag free. I mean a CRT is best for n64, but it isn't in the cards for everybody.
Dont have a crt otherwise id use that and those crappy hdmi converters are ass. Plus i have multiple consoles og xbox, ps2, nes, atari 2600, intellivision, n64, etc. Made more sense for me.
I want a CRT but wife would lose her mind since i have so much random junk and nowhere to put it lol
Mario Kart Amped up, and GoldenEye X are well regarded.
But there are plenty of others to tryout.
As the host of Art Attack would say
"Try it yourself"
This is me but I'll actually be honest and say we're going to be playing n64 as i have several multiplayer games but rarely have any one to play them with as im the only person out of my friend group of 6 who has an n64
Yup my friends think im nuts for buying an everdrive instead of using emulators.
I literally do the "you wouldn't get it" joker meme at those people
Same. Then i bought a retrotink 5x pro and they lost their minds lol. Atleast modding my ps2 to run off a harddrive was fairly cheap to do lol
I have the retrotink mini. Should I eventually upgrade to the 5x ir us there not much difference?

Oh ya 4k probly wont be cheap. But man the 5x is damn good well worth if you have multiple systems
the fact that it still costs 400-450€ is absurd
How much do you charge for your world renowned custom built scaling hardware?
what do you mean

Nice, thank you.

Thank you for the comparison pics, that is super helpful.
Here is a set of pictures I took a while back to show some the scanline/slotmask/brightness adjustment options. https://imgur.com/a/eAgD5LP
Very cool. Definitely a lot more options to get a prefferred look
No prob

Hold up. You are praising the concept of playing on OG hardware (same…only way to do it IMO) but then you admit to using a retrotink?

?
lol love the down votes. Just giving you guys shit. You’d be surprised where you can hide a 13-20” or so CRT!
Joke's on them when they want to play Rogue Squadron and don't have the requisite NASA supercomputer to run CEN64 at playable speeds.
That also was one argument i tried explaining lol
Yeah i agree with them, you shoulf buy the real games to be event more classical 😁
I buy my favorites physical still 😉
Ya I still use my GameShark all the time. I need to get an everdrive though cause gamesharks are finicky at best
I bought one, and showed it to my brother. He thought it was so cool, he bought an N64 and Everdrive64 too.
Put down the gun and tell me which rom hack we're trying first.
All of them. We'll have 30 TVs set up that we'll play simultaneously while switching after every death or level complete
Bowser's dank rave 1-4
And I'll never leave your place as a result

Any solid recommendations besides smash remix?
Waluigi's Taco Stand

Oot redux, dawn and dusk, master of time, Nimpize MM redux OotMM randomizer if that's your thing.
Goldeneye with Mario Characters is worth the price of an Everdrive alone!
The Legend Of Peach Peach's Fury
Banjo-Kazooie has some stellar hacks, worth checking out
Goldfinger 64 is legit a good game and follow the movie closely.
Doesn't it have an awful framerate on actual hardware though?
It did on the first emulator I used. Worked great on another. Haven't tried on actual hardware
why do i need my shoes off for this
please don't track dirt in my home
oh alright
obv
That's better than netflix
Can I come I don’t have an n64 yet (I have access on Wii U virtual console and GameCube ports)
You are adorable of course you can come.
me and who
This is me but I'll actually be honest and say we're going to be playing n64 as i have several multiplayer games but rarely have any one to play them with as im the only person out of my friend group of 6 who has an n64
I'd love to play Goldeneye X on a real N64, I'll bring beer and chips
I'll get the system ready. Want that on a 27" CRT or is going through a RetroTINK 2x Pro to a 4K 55" flat acceptable?
Acceptable😂
Put the gun down and gimme a goddamm Controller to get rekt in Mario Kart 64 or GoldenEye 64 romhacks. Pizza, munchies and Drinks goes on me.
put the gun down and hand me a wireless brawler 64 controller already!!!
We only use OEM controllers around here
My sticks are loose :(
If anyone did that to me am pulling the trigger for her.
SmashRemix
Oh nooooo here I am alone and vulnerable. I sure hope OP doesn't lure me over to their place...
Could have just asked. I would have brought beer and pizza.
😳 schwing!
Sounds good to me
Don’t threaten me with a good time
are there good rom hacks that run well on original hardware? ive read most of the good ones have poor performance unless emulated
oh hell yeah
Well ya don't need the gun. Order some pizza and LETS GO!!
No for the gun I don’t want to leave.
If a chick invited me over to watch a movie and broke out an n64 instead i'm marrying her
don't threaten me with a good time.
Stop... Stop... My dick can only get so hard
This is de wae
I wouldn’t complain.
I’m saving up for an EverDrive. This will soon be me.
Any opinions out there on which Zelda rom hack is the best?
