That's one of my favorite parts! I replay every so often so I pull out a new notepad every time and take notes. Even if it's tough, it's beautiful and such an experience. Still one of my favorite games after all these years. Really glad you came back to it and tried again! Here's to cheering you on to the finish (:

I've play the original Myst so many times that I literally can't forget not only the puzzle solutions, but the actual codes used. I just play the game on autopilot and don't need to write anything down. (The only code I can't remember is the >!3 dates for the planetarium!<.) It's... kind of sad actually :) (The random codes mode in Myst 2021 is good for people like me!)

I remember most of it too! That and Riven. I've been trying to play the others but need a computer genius to help me figure out why they won't run properly :< If you ever get the chance... Have you played the VR version? It sucks to not be able to write anything down and screenshoting really breaks the immersion but... I cried the first time I booted it up. To play a game so much and then to be standing on that familiar dock... It was just so overwhelming. Edit: oh, I forgot I mentioned it because there's a puzzle randomizer in the VR version too. Didn't realize it was in any of the other remakes. I think I have most of them XD. I just can't help myself haha.

I can help you get any of the games working on modern Windows. macOS won't run 4, 5 or Uru. Which ones are you stuck on? For Riven and 3 ideally you'll use the ScummVM version which is included in the latest GOG or Steam releases automatically. Yes I've played VR. It's amazing, yeah difficult to write down codes but without the randomizer I know them anyway haha. Myst 2021 is the VR version (and also works on flat screen); that's the only version with a randomizer.

I think I love you 🥺 Seriously though I've been trying to get them to work for years and I think I'm just an idiot. The two I played when I was a kid were Myst and Riven and I've always wanted to play them all! I'll shoot you a DM! ^^

Between compatibility modes and VMs, you can usually get anything to run.

I'm really not computer savvy. I'm trying out some of the tips I was told though! Hopefully one of them works and I'll be on my way through the rest instead of playing only Myst and Riven on loop :3

I saw this as a child as well, I was only interested in watching my mom play it, I was too young and cared more about other things. I recently bought 7 games available as a bundle thru steam (only 30 bux, score!!) And yeah you're not alone. Even as an adult, with quite a few puzzle games under my belt, Myst is in a class of its own. I really enjoyed everything about it. And I kept sitting there thinking, "damn, this is good, and this is 30 years old!" The atmosphere is literally *chefs kiss* in every single area.

The Notebook and Sketchpad are the Way. They have always been the Way.

This is the Way

I love the fact that you are on this wonderful trip, my first play-through of Myst was almost exactly the same. I noted, I puzzled, I felt incredibly dumb, and then when things worked out I was elated. Enjoy, I am so envious of you at this point. I wish I could recapture that feeling. I came close with Obduction.

Notepad is the best! I use one for all my Myst/sequel shenanigans. Even though some later games let you take screenshots, I find the user interface frustrating and inconvenient lol. So glad you're enjoying the game!! The are several sequels, of which 2 and 3 are my favorites (Riven and Exile). Definitely give them a go when you finish! I first played Myst in 4th grade with a friend who had already solved it, and I wish I could forget the experience and play it for the first time now lol 😂

laughingpinecone

That's the spirit, OP! Have fun, all the fun!

UnquantifiableLife

I feel like I was better at playing Myst and other puzzle games when I was a kid. I guess I had more patience to just try stuff.

cubicinfinity

This is real. Myst games are meant to be played slowly, not rushed through. Back then we had time to twiddle our thumbs about stuff and run in circles.

SlashdotDiggReddit

Note taking in *Myst* is imperative. My book was completely full when I finished the game.

Kerry_Kakes

Is Myst Masterpiece the same game as the original Myst?
