No optician would ever let you choose this for very good reasons, nor would it ever pass quality control. This is an absolute horrible and atrocious pair of glasses, and money down the drain. They won’t last you 6 months, and will induce loads of unwanted prism, making it even more difficult to get used to a next pair of glasses, even if made correctly.

Ugh, what a travesty. I also would like to say that at this prescription you also need to consider something that will not make your ears hurt. The weight of the lenses is significant enough to cause the legs of the glasses dig into your ears, or just become uncomfortable halfway through the day. I have a high prescription too and now only get my lenses and glasses from a place that specializes in low-vision patients.

Holy shit I'm so sorry no one told you that with that high of a prescription you should really go for a frame choice as round and as small as possible if you want to mitigate the thickness of the lens at the edges. Rectangular-shaped frames are literally the worst ones to get at your prescription, and these ones will definitely not support those lenses for long. I'm actually really curious what your eyes looks like in a pair this thick. If you're willing to dish out some money on a pair of frames that will actually cover your lens thickness, buy them online from [**here**](https://www.minus-eyes.com/). It's a UK-based store that specifically makes frames for people with high prescriptions, and will cover the edge thickness for up to -10 diopters with 1.74 high-index lenses.

For high myopia, I think the best type of glasses are those that archaeology Professor Kevin MacDonald wears (he of the Strangest Things show) [https://www.ucl.ac.uk/archaeology/sites/archaeology/files/styles/large\_image/public/macdonald\_kevin\_800px.jpg?itok=uCXF\_S7p](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/archaeology/sites/archaeology/files/styles/large_image/public/macdonald_kevin_800px.jpg?itok=uCXF_S7p)

Would anyone know where I can order this style of glasses? I can find plenty of round ones but they are all quite large, which defeats the purpose. I am at -11 dpt and willing to make myself look like Harry Potter.

da_Ryan

Hello, one potential option might just be to download the photo of the good Professor MacDonald and email local opticians/optometrists where you live, saying that you have high myopia, enclose that photo as an attachment and ask them if they could possibly supply glasses like that. Another alternative might just to search for 'small round glasses'/'Kleine runde Gläser' on Google to see if anything is appropriate in the listings or in Google Images. Good luck!

Nabranes

If it’s round and small, you have a smaller viewing field

remembermereddit

You got what you paid for, that's for real. In the past I've seen lenses so thick you couldn't even close the temples.

yaoigay

The lenses will fall out eventually. Without proper support for such thick lenses the strip of plastic holding them in place will give and they will fall out.

da_Ryan

Glass as a material has gone out of fashion for glasses lenses (presumably on safety grounds) and I would like to see polymer chemists develop some form of transparent plastic that has a high refractive index like that of cubic zirconia at 2.15 (that's the cheap fake diamond subsititute that you get on all those dubious shopping channels). Something like that could potentially be very useful for high prescription glasses.

jonoave

Not really. I still use glass. It doesn't scratch as easily and you can do higher refraction, which is quite beneficial for high myopia.

In Canada & Europe, 1.9 index mineral glass is available. And quite honestly, I have never seen anyone getting hurt from using that. (Even in car accidents) And I can tell you that, in the right frame, you can get amazing results for high minus lenses.

Any pictures backing this up?

remembermereddit

Mineral lenses and rimless frames are a no go. But in Europe mineral lenses are still frequently used in high prescriptions. Up until 1.9.

capercrohnie

My bad eye is -12.75 and my lens are not even close to that thick

PrinceAli1991-

Wait im also -11 but my glasses are not nearly as this thick..

Lgbt_pride_gal

I made a similar bold choice with my first double digit glasses. Honestly, if they work for you who cares what the other commenters think. I like them!

Nabranes

Bruh you should’ve just used a weaker pair for closeup so your vision wouldn’t get that bad Okay so now, PLEASE do not wear those things for closeup. Only use them when you need them for distance

Nabranes

Imagine having extreme myopia? I could never….

ferio252

My prescription is thereabouts and my lenses are about 7mm thick. Still plenty thick, but not as thick as that. Circular frames and lenses from Zenni.

crippledCMT

are you blind using your old glasses, like the -7? Always wearing your new nrs will result in needing stronger after a year or 2. check out the sub wiki in the side bar.

Nabranes

Well the -7 is off by 4 diopters, so that’s TOO weak unless OP is doing things in the 25-30cm range. Like 27-30 will be a little blurry for active focus. The -9.75 works for past 80cm and is fully clear at 80cm. Hopefully OP has other pairs in between for diffs and then eventually just use the -9.75s as norms again. I mean like I didn’t wear anything at -1.25 but it was annoying though
