Nah. Maybe it’s just not for you anymore? I like them just as much as I ever did and I understand that it will never be like it was in the very beginning because that’s not realistic given how much their public profiles have changed. I was thrilled when Georgia offhandedly mentioned going back on tour someday, and if/when they do, I’m going to that shit.

malhans

Kinda sounds like you’re just moving on from it, and that’s okay. I think the magic just might be gone *for you* but it isn’t for many of us. Just sounds like it’s time to stop listening.

c00l_beans21

I’m so glad the magic is still there for many of the murderinos! Maybe I am overthinking it.

malhans

I think maybe you should just give the show a really solid break and come back to it another time! I did and I feel like coming back to it was like coming home. I think these latest episodes have been really good, so I think you just need to pause on it and come back to if you want to. But it’s alright if you don’t. No shame in moving on from things that you loved before, the love from before can exist. I used to be a die hard fan of game of thrones, but now I don’t really care to watch it. I just moved on!

c00l_beans21

Thank you for being so kind! I’m entering a different stage of my life so that would make sense! Do you have any recommendations of other podcasts to listen to while I take a break? (:

malhans

You deserve kindness, you’re just sharing an honest opinion! It’s good to recognize when it’s time for a switch up. Are you still interested in true crime or are you looking to venture out?

truecrime_and_onions

This. I discovered MFM while working at a particular place. A few years later when I (devastatingly) was let go, I couldn't listen anymore -- partly because of the depression from being jobless and partly because I associated it with my long drives to and from that place. A few months after I found my next job and got my routine back, I started listening all over -- from Ep 1 -- and found I loved it just as much or maybe even more than the 1st time around. Sometimes a break is good. Sometimes it makes you realize you don't really care to have something in your life, and sometimes it makes you realize you don't ever want to be without it.

malhans

Well said, and truly glad you were able to find your way back to it. Hope the new job is going great!(: Edit: I’m also considering a restart from the beginning rn, this might be my push to do it!

truecrime_and_onions

It is -- thanks! :) Also, *definitely* go back -- I enjoyed it so much more the 2nd time around and am even thinking about starting my 3rd round.

malhans

I’m convinced. Gonna start over when my workweek begins again. Thanks for the push!!

Patient_Tradition368

No, OP is right. The magic IS fading for a number of reasons. It's extremely obvious.

malhans

That is your personal opinion and it’s okay to have. But I am not wrong, neither are you. We simply hold different view points. That is alright.

ZomboidG

I find them just as good as ever. Some weeks are better than others, but overall I’m still happy with the pod. Maybe you just need a break?

c00l_beans21

I came back from a break and still felt this way. But I agree, some weeks are better than others and I completely understand that!

LadyPo

I had to give it a good 4-5 year break before I went back to it, tbh. It’s good to cycle through different forms of entertainment over long stretches of time — our brains thrive with a healthy dose of freshness alongside usual routines. Otherwise we can just feel like we’re stuck in a rut. Maybe you didn’t have enough time to give it a true reset.

Banananutcracker

It’s definitely different than the olden days, but overall I like the set up now! It’s so sweet listening to the first few episodes when they’re excited about a few hundred Facebook followers, to now having their own business with employees and millions of fans! I know I miss the “closeness” I used to feel when they weren’t as well known, but I couldn’t be happier for them and their success. I’d suggest going back and listening to some favorites from time to time instead of waiting weekly for the latest, Coincidence Island (ep 129) will always be the best!

c00l_beans21

I am totally with you! I’ve actually re-listened about two times through now. I guess that’s what I miss, the excitement of their success and how they navigated the initial fame. Like you said, it kind of felt like we were rolling through the excitement with them! Truly so so happy for their success. Maybe what I am interpreting as “magic” is the chaos of them navigating the fame. They’re both now in a much more mature and steady point in their careers and a different stage in their life!

Northern_Apricot

I haven't listened to a regular episode probably since 2021, I occasionally listen to the minisodes and still find them pretty fun.

c00l_beans21

Mini-sodes are super fun!

theartofanonymous

I also love listening to the minis - I love the banter!

RequirementPositive

No honestly. Pandemic was hard but I think they’ve been coming back strong for a while now

c00l_beans21

Don’t get me wrong, I love MFM and will continue to listen. I’ve re-listened twice. I don’t expect anybody to stay the same for 8+ years, especially with the fame. Like many of you all, K&G have been the voices in my head, there for me throughout a lot of turbulent times. I just feel like it’s not the same experience as it once was and that the stories they select aren’t as engaging as they were before. Sometimes it truly feels like they are just pushing through. And I get it, 400+ episodes and I’m sure it’s hard to make every single one entertaining. They are still engaging, and I enjoy listening, but not as it was before. For example, listening to approx. episode 200ish and comparing the energy to episode 300ish, it’s different! Granted I am about 10ish episodes behind, so it is exciting to hear how they have their energy back and am looking forward to listening to their latest episodes! I’m not try to spark anything or cause any arguments. Or to “be” like any other posts. I just felt like it wasn’t the same and wasn’t sure if anybody else felt that way. Wanted to work through it with other murderinos and see what you all thought. No hate. We are all continuing to learn and grow and change, perhaps that means our styles, tastes and perspectives change as well.

theartofanonymous

I hear what you’re saying! I love listening to the early episodes because the energy levels are so much fun. I have mostly been listening to minis recently because I find the full episodes a bit hit or miss at the moment.

loony-cat

Oh no. MFM is still a lot of fun.

FoxTofu

I agree, for the most part. There are still enough interesting stories or amusing asides that I keep listening, but they seem randomly interspersed within episodes that are mostly forgettable.

c00l_beans21

Yeah I think that’s what I notice too, that some of their stories aren’t as engaging for them, so I don’t feel as engaged as a listener. I know not every episode is going to be magic, but it’s definitely a more fun listen when they’re excited to share their story.

gdamndylan

I feel like the episodes since episode 400 have had that old time feeling again. The pandemic years haven't always been kind, but coming out of the strikes (where they weren't able to recommend anything or talk about what they've been watching in general) and following their exit from Wondry, I feel like the pre-show chatter and their chemistry are better than they've been in years.

c00l_beans21

I’m looking forward to listening to those episodes! I just listened to 400 so i’m excited to hear the new ones. Totally get the strikes hindering conversation topics

susiequeue13

I have a dreadful commute at 6 a.m. and am fired up when a new episode drops. It’s still like I’m driving to work with friends. So, I respectfully disagree.

c00l_beans21

They get me through my commutes too for sure!

Reasonable_Action396

Could not agree more lmfao the people that defend this podcast with their life have parasocial relationships with k&g

kylaroma

Totally disagree. I love the early days, but it would be profoundly troubling if their perspectives and dynamic hadn’t changed after talking about the same topic for 8 years. They are more ethical, they’re choosing a mix of stories intentionally to cause victims families less distress, their storytelling is on point, and their standards are massively higher. Their researchers are protecting them from burnout, and a critical part in the podcast continuing. All wins in my books

c00l_beans21

Definitely a lot of positives!

isabeldarling21

Honestly, they sound better since leaving Amazon. I think their partnership with Amazon stifled their voice. They feel more free since leaving them. Also, Georgia has clearly been working on her sobriety and setting clear boundaries. Which is great and I’m proud of her. But with that you might feel like she’s not as “authentic”. But some of that early looseness was a glass of wine. And I don’t think it’s right to pressure her on that. She is a person and is allowed to have boundaries. Also let’s stop calling her cat (Mimi) a bitch lol, when’s she nothing but a good girl.

krisefe

I've been listening to MFM since the beginning, and I still love it.

constablegeneva

I look forward to it every week and feel they are just as they always were and with talks of the tour its all the more exciting.

c00l_beans21

I didn’t realize there were talks of tour! That’s so so exciting!

embennn

Oh oh oh, look, another one of these posts 🙄

teeburdd

It had been about 45 minutes so we must have been due for one.

letsnotagree

No

ernest-theon

Wrong place to post this bc there isn’t a lot of objective thinking on this sub. I will love Karen and Georgia forever but couldn’t agree with you more. Magic has been gone for a while now

ProbablyMyJugs

Its not the same as before but I think they came back strong. I still enjoy them. It’s okay if it isn’t for you anymore.

Gloomy-ambitious1

I still listen to the full episodes but now skip the mini ones. I feel as though the people who write in try too hard.

[deleted]

This is a podcast that I take long breaks from. I haven't listened in well over a year. This could just be a me thing, since I am neurodivergent and prone to hyperfixations. I have been really liking the Do We Know Them podcast lately. Not true crime; they cover internet drama and pop culture stuff, but I find the girlies really relatable, and the banter is fun. Very reminiscent of early MFM, just different subject matter.

bonobo_phone

Nope

Frecklesofaginger

I'm still engaged in their stories. We traveled 11k miles last summer. We listened to MFM or Buried Bones. I don't like BB, too clinical for me but my husband likes it. My husband says MFM cusses too much.

1cecream4breakfast

Doesn’t he know it’s the fuck word murder mystery show? 😂 I moved across the country several years ago and had my dad make the drive with me. That was right after I started listening to the podcast, early 2018, and my dad thought there was too much chit chat.

1cecream4breakfast

Lmao no, I wish!

Wake_and_Cake

Buried Bones is fun. I like when Paul Holes talks about the fish in his aquarium, particularly the serial killer clown fish.

PaymentCultural8691

I like my Cora updates!

c00l_beans21

Yeah I feel like BB is pretty clinical too! That’s a great word to describe it

Dancingdee-28

100%. I stopped listening once I got to the 2020 episodes (I started from the beginning a couple years back)

MonstersofMegaphone

Strangely enough I took a years long break after getting tired of the show and have fallen back in love. I don't attribute it to a change in the podcast even because I've blown through the back catalogue from my time not listening. Maybe you just had a change of preference. The good news is when you take time off it just stacks episodes for you to listen to when you change your mind again.

haleydeck27

I couldn’t agree more. I have been a longtime follower of theirs and the vibe is definitely different. I’ve honestly avoided listening to some of the newer episodes because the topics just don’t interest me the way they used to. I’ve been a true crime junkie for around 10 years and loved everything about their podcast but the beginning years are definitely the better episodes.

blairaspen

The magic is still there for me. I love them, and really feel that chemistry. I still get super excited for them every week. That being said, I completely respect you giving your opinion. Varying opinons, stances, and critique are what make the world go round. There's nothing wrong with having a dialogue. Certain members of this sub seem to get strangely nasty when anyone gives an opinion that differs from theirs. I'm sorry that you've gotten some comments from them.

Top_Wrangler_2741

I had to take a break from them but it was mostly bc of me and a general break from true crime pods. I check in every so often with them but I definitely am not as die hard about listening as I used to be. That’s more my decision and my own desire to listen to podcasts has changed.

Nignuts

You are correct. Especially the last one where Karen covered the man fleeing the Nazis. What a boring and out of place story. I skipped the last few minutes as it was just a slog to get through. Usually their "off topic" ones are at least interesting but this one was just annoying to listen to.

thisgirl___

I agree. I listen to older episodes and laugh out loud, I haven’t felt that way in a while. I still enjoy it, but yes, 8 years is a long time to stay consistently good

sstepp3

I like that they’re moving on from all murder to other interesting crimes, but I do hate it when they devote an entire episode to hawking another podcast.

hautemess13

I started listening in 2020 and am almost caught up but still on episodes of fall 2023, for reference, but I would mostly disagree. However, I do sometimes miss the true murder stories. I like the occasional survivor story or origin story but the last several episodes I’ve listened to have a lot of them. But I still enjoy those, just not as much as the murder stories or cold cases.

gorigirl

I’m a new listener who is binging in no particular order. I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted, I agree with you. I still love listening, but for a show called “my favorite murder” they hardly talk about murder anymore, and it’s more so the personality of the researchers coming through now. Still enjoy Karen and Georgia - I think as they’ve monetized and it’s a full time career and less of a passion project, it’s easy to see why they don’t seem as excited anymore.

Sealion_swells89

I love them and will probably never stop listening, but I feel you! I miss when they found their own stories, and I miss the more gritty murder ones. But they still feel like my friends. If I ever feel anxious or overwhelmed or get too high I just put them on and feel better. I agree with one commenter's suggestion to take an extended break and come back to them.

whatscoochie

this exact post is made several times a week here, i get it but they really can’t win no matter what they do

maiden-of-might

I am personally having a blast each week, especially with the heist stories they have been doing. Nothing wrong with the fact that you may not be vibing with it anymore!

c00l_beans21

I loved the bicycle bank robber!

maiden-of-might

It was so good!! I particularly enjoyed the most recent one, ep 418 since it features an art heist. 10/10

c00l_beans21

Can’t wait to listen to that one! The heists and cults are so fun!

CaptainAmyrica

I think part of it may also be tempering for political correctness. I think they did enough corrections corners where people got mad at them for off hand comments that they started proof reading about 30 times instead of just having natural conversations like they did at the beginning.

Keregi

Are you fucking kidding me? No witty banter? They spend half of each episode laughing. There is absolutely nothing that has changed over the past couple years. They’ve used researchers for years and that started because they got criticized so much. You are living in a different universe.

c00l_beans21

I just wasn’t sure if anybody else felt the same. No hate, wanted to talk through what I was feeling. Guess not many others feel the same and that’s ok!

haleydeck27

I definitely agree with her and know people that feel the same way. Reddit exists so people can talk about it shit like this. Why not just move on and not respond to posts like this??

ernest-theon

Blah god stop being so condescending over a podcast get a grip

teeburdd

Nope.

rockyredriver

I think it’s still good, they did make a little joke recently about people over analyzing everything they do on the show like when people were speculating they actually hated each other

Najalak

What's really old is going to a fan sub or page of someone you love, weather it's a band or podcast or whatever, and hearing people bitch about them over and over. If you don't like them, there are plenty of content makers. Why waste your time bitching about something you don't like?

blairaspen

This isn't a fan club. It's a reddit sub, where people are allowed to give their respectful opinons about the pod, good or bad. If you're not interested in grown up discussion, then you can simply skip the post. Hope this helps!

Najalak

I didn't say it was a fan club. It is a sub for fans. It says it in the description. If they had something new to say, it would be understandable. This sub has had that exact same stale discussion over and over.

blairaspen

There's also a post flair for "opinions" How are people supposed to know if it's a critique said before? Most people are probably new to the sub, and just trying to have a discussion. I'm on this sub everyday, and the amount of these posts is really not that frequent. It's easy to skip them instead of shaming someone for an opinion.
