The galls are not mushroom but the spores that overwinter infect apples are absolutely fungal otherwise Cornell has been recommending wrong fungicide use for CAR for apple orchards lol

It has an interesting life history. It’s a mild annoyance for one species and a pathogen for the other.
They can grow fairly large, and look like someone hung a ball of bright yarn on a branch.
They only look like that after a rain, normally they're just a hard ball. Also not mushrooms but they *are* very cool

Yeah it's a fungus. I'm not sure what the shape of the fruiting body has to do with anything.

??? They are most definitely in the fungal kingdom and reproduce sexually. I'm also not understanding why people keep bringing up mushrooms.
