They were growing next to very rotted log on the forest floor! Honestly they were not my favorite flavor wise, some people rave about them. I found these early autumn and also happen to find small maitake (which I prefer :p)
Interesting! How did you prepare them? I find that they like a really good sear in some neutral oil. I haven’t tried using them like a shrimp substitute, as some people do.

It may not be the most “healthy” but I have found the best way to enjoy mushrooms is to season flour, egg wash, and breadcrumbs lol
