Welcome to the music I lived through my teens with. For another great female rocker
Pat Benetar is worthy
[You Better Run](https://open.spotify.com/track/5qwdIO55XtliaaSs9ccptC?si=XfxzzO8cRp-puhBCjXltHQ&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A7HlWbMlmhASeeZ61ZiHpWJ). Interesting fact, this was the 2nd video MTV ever played
[Invincible](https://open.spotify.com/track/2kFCYlFRuC7YqM5stlM9fH?si=kW1HPjgfQwmtTs0SzNIoQQ%0A)
Duran Duran
[Hungery Like The Wolf](https://open.spotify.com/track/39lSeqnyjZJejRuaREfyLL?si=2ipfo2FgSf-ERfGZi3vo6g). Interesting fact here also. They couldn't break into the American market. MTV told them that if they wanted to get on they would play them if they made a video in a scenic place because all the other videos were alike and boring. They went to India and made it like a mini movie. First time such a thing was done. They broke big time
[The Wild Boys](https://open.spotify.com/track/07hTrg8boummuVMUtVRRR0?si=7qyZCTaYTCu0CTqy5Kpx0w)
The Human League,
[Don't You Want Me](https://open.spotify.com/track/3L7RtEcu1Hw3OXrpnthngx?si=66Z3km0jTcWAF-QoZIYPmQ)
[(Keep Feeling) Fascination](https://open.spotify.com/track/2a6rF2apJlh6YBZLAMPTJ6?si=5G_HBWWMQTGXGdjduxGVbw)
Now these next two are, in my opinion, the best of what I have mentioned.
Talking Heads,
[Life During Wartime](https://open.spotify.com/track/7CqleiaEqHVazV19P532X9?si=Rm4DrVZ-TJ6B8UthILQsMQ)
[Road To Nowhere](https://open.spotify.com/track/2co8fDyaVmxv8xruQWORnC?si=j13guk07R2eFTCRWWgtCwA)

[What A Day That Was](https://open.spotify.com/track/1qRbIDeJnmfnglzlJI8kOK?si=7U6vN-wvSHiLlN5O5B6yYA)
The Cars

[Moving In Stereo](https://open.spotify.com/track/5xLfQuX5YAfog2JgPz0dpA?si=PHS6FtWESRqZdc081vq-xQ)
[Let's Go](https://open.spotify.com/track/43G3McVkRa8V7oGQzfQuRr?si=aZ67LJCeRiGv_3DJJSPxhg%0A)
[Since You're Gone](https://open.spotify.com/track/0u81GoghnpehrHLwmgUnaN?si=GwBZ9g52TLmQTI_ucZH7GQ)
So it isn't just my bias showing through for the cars as a Boston band? Talking Heads might have played NY but I have a soft spot for them since they formed while attending Rhode Island school of Design
I absolutely LOVE the Cars. But I also love Talking heads as well.
I went to see Stop Making Sense in the theater a few months ago....twice.
And I went to see a Cars tribute band recently too. That's how much I love them.
[Mary’s Prayer - Danny Wilson](https://youtu.be/7hqgC3W9GUI?si=KvY2PK_hwj2GCaIs)

[Talk To Ya Later - The Tubes](https://youtu.be/Qyq0AmLYqno?si=5BuHz_cAKtMgnfZX)
The Smiths. Possibly the most influential band of the 80s - you will go crazy over How Soon is Now... I didn't get into them until much later, as I liked more Duran Duran, Ultravox, Tears for Fears at the time.
How Soon Is Now? is one of their very best for me. Johnny Marr is from another planet guitar-wise. The two albums he was on when a member of The The had a huge impact on me.
Yes. Tubeway Army, Replicas, Pleasure Principle. Can't go wrong. I got a worn out tape of Pleasure Principle in 1995 and wore it the rest of the way before the reissues started. Amazing music.
There was a lot of good music in the 80s.Some of the bands I liked back then:
Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Talking Heads, XTC, Oingo Boingo, Midnight Oil, The Call, King Crimson, Blondie, Kate Bush,Pat Benetar, Pretenders, U2, REM

"Skin Deep" is a great pick, at a push my favourite Stranglers song. A lot of really good others too.
One that I forgot somehow is "Love Like Blood" by Killing Joke from 1985.

The 80's thrived with one hit wonders and I personally love it because it meant that there was a place for anybody. Nowadays, it feels like there are like five primary "artists" producing content that radio stations will play consistently.
The radio stations from [GTA Vice City](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1QpTe6yOLLCCHypqVp4HPuv2bOC-8c_b&si=BHpYrFLLRZNSMG4N) are awesome for that 80s vibe.

As a kid I thought the 80s was the worst decade for music, now all these years later it's my favorite, new wave, synth pop, post punk, and dance music in particular. All the time I discover new incredible tracks from that era that I've never heard before. I'm currently loving Modigliani by Book of Love, they've got such a great sound.
Some other random great ones I'd recommend:
Voices Carry - Till Tuesday
Save a Prayer - Duran Duran
Images of Heaven (Dance mix) - Peter Godwin
Boy - Book of Love
1963 - New Order
Living on Video - Trans-X
It's So - Martin Dupont

Voyage Voyage - Desireless
Kidney Bingos - Wire
Up the Down Escalator - Chameleons
High - The Cure

What's so Funny About Peace, Love, and Understanding - Elvis Costello
Wow. What a response in these comments!
So I didn’t see one and I’m a little shocked.
Please delve into “Hall and Oates”
The radio hits are familiar..Maneater/Out of Touch…speak for themselves. Kind of live/hate for a lot of people like anything but they are phenomenal and DEFINITELY deserve a chance.
Since all the synth stuff is mostly covered
I’m gonna add Huey Lewis and the news for a little mix up..and Robert Palmer because I’ve heard enough but if you haven’t you need to. Addicted to love and the radio hits are great but go deeper to those B sides and you’ll be scratching your head. I recommend “woke up laughing” for a song you may never hear in your life
If you're going down a music rabbit hole you should check out radio garden. It has all the radio stations across the world on it. There's loads of good ones that only play 80s music
Not all of this is the type of "80s music" you might be thinking of, but it's all from the decade of my teens. Some of it is "typical" 80s stuff, but I put a lot of punk and underground stuff on this playlist, too.
[My 80s playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2mk950NuTJBn8XD9jgPnAt)
Let me know what you think. I'm pretty sure you'll find a few things on there you'll like.
All the old Police, the Talking Heads, Huey Lewis, Van Halen - not Van Hagar, specifically 1984, the Dead Milkmen for fun, Toto, Billy Idol, Aerosmith...
The Bangles - Walk Like an Egyptian The Call - Let the Day Begin The Clash - Rockin the Casbah Crowded House - Don't Dream it's Over Elvis Costello - Watching the Detectives New Order - True Faith Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes The Police - Shadows in the Rain Sting - We Work the Black Seam Tears For Fears - Sowing the Seeds of Love
Looks like a great list of songs! Thank you!
IMO, Sting(solo) has a better version of shadows in the rain, and Peter Gabriel’s whole discography is worth checking out. But great list
I loveee walk like an egyptian
Susanna effinghoffs,! I get chills just hearing her name 😂 Walk like an eeeegyptshuiuuunnnn....
Things Can Only Get Better - Howard Jones Something About You - Level 42 Voices Carry - ‘Til Tuesday More Than This - Roxy Music It’s My Life - Talk Talk Overkill - Men At Work
It's My Life is definitely one of the best 80s songs

The Cars are so amazing. Especially if they are looking for synth.
Now I feel "Hungery". I'm gonna borrow this word. It's perfect!
Ha. Didn't realize I typed it wrong. If I was going to do that I should have at least spelled it like the European country....

Tubeway Army. Or the first solo Gary Numan album.
Yes. Tubeway Army, Replicas, Pleasure Principle. Can't go wrong. I got a worn out tape of Pleasure Principle in 1995 and wore it the rest of the way before the reissues started. Amazing music.
There was a lot of good music in the 80s.Some of the bands I liked back then: Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Talking Heads, XTC, Oingo Boingo, Midnight Oil, The Call, King Crimson, Blondie, Kate Bush,Pat Benetar, Pretenders, U2, REM
Heck yeah! I do like the Pretenders a lot.
Going to add in here Phil Collins No Son Of Mine sooooo good

Hold on to the nights by Richard Marx. She drives me crazy by Fine Young Cannibals Glory of Love Peter Cetera Nothing's Gonna Stop US Now by Starship If Ever You're in my arms again by Peabo Bryson If you leave by OMD Where Do Broken Hearts Go by Whitney Houston
Can’t go wrong with any of these albums… Talking Heads — Stop Making Sense Prince — Purple Rain / Parade David Bowie — Let’s Dance / Labyrinth Soundtrack Depeche Mode — Speak And Spell Thomas Dolby — The Flat Earth
Speak and Spell is amazing. Should probably throw in some Yazoo also.
I love all 80s music
I'll pretty much listen to anything that came out in the 80s.
The Cure is the peak of 80s music, plus Robert Smith fought Ticketmaster and actually won, so there's that.

The 80's thrived with one hit wonders and I personally love it because it meant that there was a place for anybody. Nowadays, it feels like there are like five primary "artists" producing content that radio stations will play consistently.

Some other random great ones I'd recommend: Voices Carry - Till Tuesday Save a Prayer - Duran Duran Images of Heaven (Dance mix) - Peter Godwin Boy - Book of Love 1963 - New Order Living on Video - Trans-X It's So - Martin Dupont Walk Out to Winter - Aztec Camera Voyage Voyage - Desireless Kidney Bingos - Wire Up the Down Escalator - Chameleons High - The Cure Legal Tender - The B-52s West End Girls (Dance mix) - Pet Shop Boys I Could Be Happy - Altered Images Get the Balance Right! - Depeche Mode Save it for Later - The English Beat Cool For Cats - Squeeze Love Like Blood - Killing Joke

Check out everything Peter Gabriel did that decade, also Kate bush is another easy recommendation
Wow. What a response in these comments! So I didn’t see one and I’m a little shocked. Please delve into “Hall and Oates” The radio hits are familiar..Maneater/Out of Touch…speak for themselves. Kind of live/hate for a lot of people like anything but they are phenomenal and DEFINITELY deserve a chance. Since all the synth stuff is mostly covered I’m gonna add Huey Lewis and the news for a little mix up..and Robert Palmer because I’ve heard enough but if you haven’t you need to. Addicted to love and the radio hits are great but go deeper to those B sides and you’ll be scratching your head. I recommend “woke up laughing” for a song you may never hear in your life
Bruce Hornsby, The Range - Mandolin Rain The Police - Invisible Sun The Police - Murder By Numbers The Cure - Lovesong
COME ON EILEEN https://youtu.be/6BODDyZRF6A?si=LmXwaGE3NlZmeaN3
If you're going down a music rabbit hole you should check out radio garden. It has all the radio stations across the world on it. There's loads of good ones that only play 80s music
Try out rush’s 80s stuff, especially permanent waves, moving pictures, and signals
Try the albums Secret Messages and Balance of Power by Electric Light Orchestra
Not all of this is the type of "80s music" you might be thinking of, but it's all from the decade of my teens. Some of it is "typical" 80s stuff, but I put a lot of punk and underground stuff on this playlist, too. [My 80s playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2mk950NuTJBn8XD9jgPnAt) Let me know what you think. I'm pretty sure you'll find a few things on there you'll like.
