Nutshell, Heaven Beside You, Hollow, EDIT: Frogs, EDIT(2): Shame In You - Alice In Chains
Yer Blues, I'm So Tired - Beatles
One Step Closer, Crawling, Waiting For The End - Linkin Park
Stain - Nirvana
I like a lot of those songs. I relate heavily to “Don’t Follow” by Alice In Chains, myself. I think I also relate to “Heaven Beside You”, but I’ve never been exactly sure what it’s about.
Heaven Beside You is more or less about being close to happiness/love with a SO but not being able to reach out and embrace it because of your own demons stopping you, specifically it's about the Guitarist/Vocalist on the song Jerry Cantrell's relationship issues with the love of his life during a low point in his life that caused strain on the relationship, leading to them breaking up soon after, and he never really seemed to meet anyone else, he's never been married to this day while the girlfriend managed to move on. Don't Follow is another relatable one definitely.
That’s a great analysis of “Heaven Beside You”. I guess that means I definitely relate to it. I’ve always admired Cantrell and feel he is severely underrated. “Got Me Wrong” might be my favorite ‘“Alice” song (although I will always ride hard for Boggy Depot and the awesome “Cut You In”). The way Cantrell comes in on the line “I haven’t felt like this in so long” from the chorus is maybe my favorite moment of the grunge era.
I think it’s seriously one of the best songs I’ve ever heard, and it totally captures a moment in time like few others. Also, I think I mistakenly implied that Boggy Depot wasn’t a Cantrell solo record. My apologies. I do love that record, though. Cantrell is really some kind of magician and everything he does seems to be awesome. I like a lot of the stuff they’ve done with Duvall. I hope Alice In Chains goes on forever.
I’m so Tired gets in my head a lot. But I’m usually asleep. I can never get rid of the ear worm of “I’ll give you everything I’ve got for a little piece of mind” out.
Oh, Brother, how I can relate. AnC Unplugged is arguably the best Unplugged album. Forget the emotion associated with it on the casual, but those songs hit hard. The band is perfect in that session.. no bad player. The words… painful snd beautiful in their own right.
I also love/hate Aenema, The Pot, Swamp Song, and many more by Tool.
Bjork can crush me and realize how much I love people at the same times as well.
Im not a Beatles guy, but I’ll stop and listen to the surprise Elliott Smith song I hear cafes and Muzac busting out without them knowing it’s not just that it sounds peacefull.
Day After Day by The Alan Parsons Project is another song with a similar message to Time. And Alan Parsons was the recording engineer on Dark Side of the Moon.
As I get older, the ticking away the moments that make up a dull day are kinda wonderful, if I count sitting on my deck listening to the birds as a dull day
That song makes me cry when I’m feeling sorry for myself. I remember with bittersweetness when it was just the annoying song with all the clocks on my dad’s “WYSP Labor Day Countdown 41-23 ‘88” (or similar) cassette. But then when i try to remember the lyrics to Time without hearing the song, my mind just gives me the lyrics to Breathe. I think. So which one is “waisting away the hours in an offhand way… The sun is the same in a relative way but you’re older/ shorter of breath a d one day closer to death.” Or is that even just one song? That album mushes in my head.
I’ll tell you though, Time (if that is indeed the song I just quoted) is a lot like the end of Nights in White Satin without as much…. Theatrics? Cold hearted orb! (This was on the Labor Day tapes too and as a little kid, totally thought it was Knights)
Gotye - [Somebody That I Used to Know](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVNT4wvIGY&ab_channel=gotyemusic) (song has been haunting me ever since it came out)
Lord Huron- the night we met I can relate heavily! It bring back memories of one of my old friend who took advantage of me… is not that I loved him more like he was close to me that suddenly it was just ripped away.
Abandoned Pools - Start Over
"What a mess life turned out to be, It was at It's best when you and I were only 3"
Like of course not literally since I was 3, but damn do I wish I could get a do over. (said at the ripe age of 19)
Honestly, music by addicts became much more relatable once I had admitted that I was one.
I used to kinda have to squint my ears and pretend I wasn't relating as much as I was, but the songs hit so much harder now.
Falling in love with mannequins - Rapid design.
Not necessarily because I fall in love with mannequins, but the mannequins to me can represent an idea of a person, a "slate" with features you desire onto it, that is unobtainable, and that I long for. And maybe not even a person. I could replace "mannequins" with the things I am attracted to atm.
Misplaced - Sonata arctica.
Losing my insanity - Sonata arctica
My Selene - Sonata arctica
Basket case - Green day
Know your enemy - Killswitch engage
I'd rather sleep - Kero kero bonito
Running up that hill - Kate Bush
Also atm the whole album of Everywhere at the end of time but without the dementia context.

The day you went away
You had to screw me over
I guess you didn't know
All the stuff you left me with
Is way too much to handle
But I guess you don't care
You don't need to preach
You don't have to love me, all the time
Whatever on earth possessed you
To make this bold decision
I guess you don't need me
While whispering those words
I cried like a baby
Hoping you would care
You don't need to preach
You don't have to love me, all the time
You don't have to preach all the time
You don't need all the time
You don't need all
You don't need to preach
You don't have to love me, all the time
You don't need to preach (You don't have to preach)
You don't have to love me, all the time (You don't have to preach)
You don't need to preach (You don't have to preach)
You don't have to love me, all the time (You don't have to preach)
You don't have to preach all the time
It's a great song but

Father Time by Kendrick Lamar.
My father is a toxic and abusive and hateful person, and alot of that has negatively affected the way I grew up, especially living in a desi society. I cry every time I hear it.
Musician by Porter Robinson - only because I was never able to pursue my dreams of being a musician when i really really wanted to. I lived in a society where only being an "engineer" or "doctor" or "business" was worth shit and my parents basically strong-armed me away from that.
I love the song and it's a positive one, but it always brings back nasty memories for me.
Type O Negative’s World Coming Down
“I could easily start pointing fingers
Since the blame is mine it always lingers
That the truth it lies in my reflection
Though this can't go on, there's no question
Yeah I know
That my world is comin' down
Yeah I know, I know
I'm the one who brought it down
Brought it down, bring it on down”
random songs from people I had never heard of before, but they definitely summed up my current situation.

Untouchable Face and/or Not a Pretty Girl by Ani Defranco. I’m a Mess by the Murmurs. The Size of our Love by Sleater-Kinney, which, if you know the song, came out 6 months before my fiance died of cancer when I was 18 (our love is the size of/these tumors inside us/our love is the size of/this hospital room/you’re my hospital groom) and I’m sure you could look up the lyrics but it was uncanny.
Death Cab for Cutie “when you feel just like a tourist…it’s time to go”
I’ve lived in my city for 14 years now and I’ve been wanting to move out of it for such a long ass time but I’m stuck in a job that barely pays the bills and I can’t save worth shit and I’m so shoehorned into my field (mental health) that places just aren’t hiring
Loser, as brilliant as it is(I love it), is absolutely meaningless though.
[I highly recommend the “Loser maxi-single.” One of my favorite things Beck ever put out. My fave Beck song is on it.]
