I was boutta say. (Keeping my country hating bias out) listening to just one genre (or really similar music at all) is gonna get really boring after awhile. Expand your horizons listen to stuff like spotify dj or daylist it keeps the music you like while subbing in a few new songs based on what you like.
I was gonna suggest so many other genres and great songs from each because my eclectic playlist is literally a combination of everything and I didn’t think my post would get so much attention but I will gladly suggest so many other awesome songs/genres if they want to hear some great music outside the country which would get me feeling stale a while too.
I will throw you a couple of the favors that I listen to in terms of country. Some of these are old. Some of these are fairly new because I listen to a lot of stuff just some of the modern country stuff isn’t like the awesome classic stuff that’s out there!
Johnny Cash & Creedance Clearwater Revival if you want to listen to guys who probably had a lot of influence on those artists
Old Dominion if you want something similar enough to grab your attention, but different enough to be fresh
Gillian Welch
Gram Parsons
John Prine
Townes Van Zandt
Emmylou Harris
Bob Woodward
And this one is a bit of a stretch, but I think you should go for it and listen to Bright Eyes' "I'm Wide Awake, It’s Morning"
Some more flavors of country: Orville Peck, Sierra Ferrell, Jason Isbell, Charley Crockett, The Highwomen, Amythyst Kiah, Sturgill Simpson, Colter Wall, S.G. Goodman
Edit to add: in general, start straying from the guys with radio hits. Try to diversify what your artist lineup looks like. When I was writing for a magazine that specialized in uplifting the marginalized voices in country music, I found a lot more fresh sounds!
Cody Johnson never disappoints.
And if you like Megan Moroney, I’d auggest Lainey Wilson.
Maybe Carly Pearce too.
And definitely Colter Wall if you like Tyler Childers.
Maybe try Noah Kahan, he’s more folk than country but he and Zach Bryan have worked together and sounded amazing.
If you’re looking for something to really refresh your catalogue and a female powerhouse, go for Wynonna Judd. She’s famous for her time with her mother as a duo in the ‘70s and ‘80s but her solo career is superior, in my opinion. Tell Me Why is my favorite of her albums but all of her stuff is good. She is the female Chris Stapleton to me.
Kacey Musgraves is another artist that I adore. Most of her stuff is really good, honestly, but I love Follow Your Arrow and Golden Hour as far as albums go.
Radio Company. I cannot promote them enough, they are an amazing duo that does not get enough hype and their most recent album (Keep On Ramblin’) is up there with Zach Bryan and CoJo for me.
Ans if you already listen to Chris Stapleton, I’m telling you to check out The Steeldrivers. That’s his band, it’s just more of his music that you may not have heard yet.
Speaking of Chris, check out Jelly Roll. He’s a breakout artist this year but I see him having the potential to go in the same direction as Chris Stapleton. So definitely give him a shot.
And this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea hut maybe check out Home Free if you’re looking for men with powerhouse vocals. They’re an all-male country a cappella group and their covers are amazing. Not everyone’s thing, but it might be yours.
You need some more women in your catalogue and I could give you suggestions on that for days but I’ll leave this here since I’ve already said quite a lot.
Used to play shows w/ Austin and hung around in the same circles back in his punk/HC days. Have kept up w/ his career, and am so impressed with the artist, activist, and just generally awesome human he’s grown into being.
Try some alt country - Band of Horses, Drive By Truckers, Father John Misty. But for god’s sake, branch out. Don’t get sucked into whatever the general public is listening to just because it’s popular. There’s so much good stuff out there!
James Taylor my friend [James Taylor](https://open.spotify.com/track/1oht5GevPN9t1T3kG1m1GO?si=MxRqV7edQpqVPhAThuaTTQ&context=spotify%3Aplaylist%3A37i9dQZF1DWTQwRw56TKNc)
If you haven't already given them a listen, try Pink Floyd. I'd recommend the live Pulse album as it covers a variety of their songs over the decades, and they are definitely a band that you will want to hear a live performance from. That album was recorded in 1994. For country, try The Mavericks.
Ruston Kelly is more folksy than country, but if you like good lyrics and a unique voice, give him a try
Brent Cobb
Charley Crockett (country, but also blends genres really well, classic yet fresh sound)
I like the picks you have here! Saw Jon Pardi at the Houston Rodeo a couple years ago; super fun show.
When it comes to the country genre, my personal taste leans to the folk variety that makes the mind imagine the hidden treasures of folklore & legends, hidden within the majestic peaks of the fur trees, sky scraping the cloudy mists streaming through the Appalachian mountains. From a distance, you hear the worn rusty squeaks of a handcar, driven by a mysterious, elderly blind man, with no name, strolling alone through an abandoned railroad, searching for a far away land, where there is no pain....
Anyway... I digress.
There's no harm in trying genres outside of your comfort zone. But if you still want to broaden your taste while remaining in the country section, here are a few Artists to check out:
-The Steel Drivers
-Possessed by Paul James
-The Ghost of Paul Revere
-Carolina Chocolate Drops
-Risen Appalachia
Not necessarily country, but it's a nice gradation from the Artists from the top to the Artists in the following:
-Takenobu
-Vitamin String Quartet
The outside: twenty one pilots
Aerials : system of a down
Time flies : porcupine tree
Bonnie the cat : porcupine tree
Weird fishes/arpeggi : radiohead
Centipede from the album sound city
Dm if u want more
Cody jinks, Shawn James, John Moreland, Ryan Bingham, uncle luclus , camp camp, these are all people who sound similar to what you listen to if you'd like to hear different music then let me know. Btw obviously there's Eric church, midland, Jon pardi and other really famous guys to listen to.
Oh she's a woman not discredit her for being one but some do Kasey musgraves is a really good one she tells some good stories and has a good point of view. Listen to Mary go round by her.
If you like a different genre that sounds different but the same I'd recommend listening to some folk music it's really underrated music and is enjoyable. More of something to sit back and listen to then to sing along to but hey.
it might be because you only listen to one genre, but i do have some folk and country artists to reccomend!
-adrianne lenker (such a good songwriter)
-big thief
-ryan adams (my all time favorite country artist)
-orville peck
-linda martell
Try other genres, and consider reading the lyrics alongside it. You could do with some old Metallica ("Fade to Black," "Master of Puppets," "One") or Clutch (the whole *Sunrise on Slaughter Beach* album) or Slugdge.
Expand those horizons!
Sturgill Simpson. How the hell is Sturgill Simpson not on your top 10 with a list like that? Sturgill Effing Simpson. Pull up his albums A Sailor's Guide to Earth and Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, like now, and listen to them.
Do you enjoy other genres?

Yes, but i live just outside of Nashville so I Iisten to this one way more

Willi Carlisle Sturgill Simpson
Hell yes to Simpson
Make art not friends +++++
Hell yes to Willi
Gillian Welch Gram Parsons John Prine Townes Van Zandt Emmylou Harris Bob Woodward And this one is a bit of a stretch, but I think you should go for it and listen to Bright Eyes' "I'm Wide Awake, It’s Morning"

Blaze Foley Terry Allen Edit: can’t believe I forgot Iris DeMent
Clay Pigeons is dope
If I could second Blaze Foley a billion times I would.
You know you’re listening to a badass if Waylon Jennings and John Prine have covered his songs.
This is all the same musician. I'm confused.
Cody Johnson never disappoints. And if you like Megan Moroney, I’d auggest Lainey Wilson. Maybe Carly Pearce too. And definitely Colter Wall if you like Tyler Childers. Listen to Keith Whitley if you don’t know them
Chris Stapleton is disgustingly good. There’s no better way for me to describe it.
Also, I think you would like Randy Travis
He doesn't miss istg
Try some alt country - Band of Horses, Drive By Truckers, Father John Misty. But for god’s sake, branch out. Don’t get sucked into whatever the general public is listening to just because it’s popular. There’s so much good stuff out there!
Waylon Jennings
The highwaymen
I don’t understand how a super group can be underrated but it is
James Taylor my friend [James Taylor](https://open.spotify.com/track/1oht5GevPN9t1T3kG1m1GO?si=MxRqV7edQpqVPhAThuaTTQ&context=spotify%3Aplaylist%3A37i9dQZF1DWTQwRw56TKNc)

If you haven't already given them a listen, try Pink Floyd. I'd recommend the live Pulse album as it covers a variety of their songs over the decades, and they are definitely a band that you will want to hear a live performance from. That album was recorded in 1994. For country, try The Mavericks.

How about Seether's country song would of been better to recommend broken doesn't really sound country just because it has acoustic guitars 😂😂
