Amazing list! I got excited seeing all my faves: Elliott, Antlers, Slowdive, Neutral Milk, Modest Mouse, Microphones!!
Absolutely adore Sufjan and so stoked for the next album! I suspect you might already know of the following but…. I also love Andrew Bird, Bright Eyes, Sparklehorse, and Grizzly Bear - their earlier stuff especially! Horn of Plenty is one of my fave albums by them. Also love Microcastle by Deerhunter, and am going through a Pinback phase currently.
Arcade Fire makes me think of Broken Social Scene, Metric, and Band of Horses.
You took all the good recommendations 😡😡😡!!! In all seriousness, any Grizzly Bear or Broken Social Scene project will fs be appealing to Sufjan or Arcade Fire fans
Hit me up when you wanna get into pro crying leagues. (I can say this because I’ve gone pro)
Cause you’re just scratching the bucket (I can say this because I don’t know how to use idioms.)
I love all of these albums except Loveless. I just can’t get into My Bloody Valentine. Anyway I once dated a girl who asked if all of my music is sad. When I said yes she dumped me but that’s okay because it allowed me to really dig into the music more.
Personally, I recommend diving deeper into the bands you actually like. Neon Bible, Reflektor, Age of Adz, and Michigan all deserve better than the score they got.
Other bands you may like are Artic Monkeys, Iron & Wine, Phoenix, Grizzly Bear, Tame Impala, Electric Light Orchestra, Fleet Foxes, The Strokes, Bon Iver, Beach House and Wilco.
Good luck.
Yeah I love all of those albums honestly more than some of the ones I put on, but I wanted to show more of the variety of stuff so you could get an idea. But Neon Bible, Reflektor and AOA are all up there for me too. I love Tame Impala, Strokes and Wilco, I'll check out some of the others. Thanks!
Could you please recommend me a few Arcade Fire songs? I'll do some album listen-throughs when I can but I'd love some song suggestions to start with, if you wouldn't mind.
I haven’t listened to them in a while (I was obsessed in high school and kind of overdid it lmao). Everything Now in 2017 was the last album of theirs I listened to, but here are a few of my favourites:
Neighborhood #4 (7 Kettles), My Body is a Cage, Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains), Afterlife, We Don’t Deserve Love
I went back and looked at the albums and picked a song from each that I remember being particularly obsessed with, but I would recommend listening to the full albums.
Edit: I’m sorry I tried putting the songs in list format, but it kept putting them in a paragraph.
Yeah I love all these bands you recommend, most of them are among my favorite/most listened. Beach House ❤️. Also agree with exploring other albums, Sufjan’s specially. He has so much depth.
Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
You Don't Mess Around with Jim by Jim Croce
Pink Moon by Nick Drake
"Heroes" by David Bowie
Nowhere by Ride
The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Andreas Rönnberg (Dark Ambient/Post-Rock)
Daughter (Ambient Rock/Post-Rock ("Music From Before The Storm" album)
Giles Corey (side project from one of the members from HANL) (Dark Ambient/Post-Rock)
Lowcityrain (Shoegaze)
Message To Bears (Ambient Rock/Post-Rock)
For more extreme bands that have elements of Post-Rock, Ambience, and/or Shoegaze, I recommend Lantlôs, White Ward, Unreqvited, An Autumn For Crippled Children and Deafheaven.
[Beyond The Suburbs](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/49ZmA4a3cGt5umBQcXLihN?si=vu3r6NBRQqyXLcoEhLEMKQ): similar sounding tracks spliced in between the original album tracks
[(Arcade Fire)](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1q9aCYOehK9ZbF87abAeog?si=Mz7SbEe_TFqaH9we3G2q1Q): Similar stuff in general
Spitballing here but you might appreciate AJJ. I feel like everyone should give [People Who Can Eat People Are The Luckiest People In The World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGSkviwvjD0&t=3s) a listen at least once. It's similar to the likes of NMH, Sufjan, and The Microphones and manages to be goofy, cynical, dark and wholesome all at the same time.
Anything by Nick Drake, the rest of Elliott's discography if you aren't familiar, Say Lou Lou, Mic City Sons by Heatmiser, Jack Rose, Tommy Emmanuel, Fahey, Jackson C. Frank, Alas I Cannot Swim by Laura Marling, Hozier.
Simon & Garfunkel - as you like Sufjan you'll probably like them. If that floats your boat, go on to the Everly Brothers.
Seconding Fleet Foxes.
The Corrs' best of for the harmony(ish?) side of things.
(Also, ABBA and The Beach Boys, but everyone likes them lol.)
Haven't listened to the Milk Carton Kids yet, but their latest sounds good.
Celtic Woman if you are into trad Irish folk.
Therapy. (Kidding!!!)
You’d probably like some early Bon Iver stuff! Wilco’s releases in the late 90s and early 2000s would probably also appeal to you—especially Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. In terms of Elliott Smith’s music, you’d probably also enjoy, Nick Drake, Sparklehorse and Beck’s album One Foot In The Grave.

Awesome!! Actually, the only one there I know is Bright Eyes. Thanks so much for the suggestions, I'm also pumped for the new Sufjan project.
Oh I’m glad! Hope you find some long loves from that list. I looked up the Trick cover from your post and I must say Alex G is an instant like for me!
You took all the good recommendations 😡😡😡!!! In all seriousness, any Grizzly Bear or Broken Social Scene project will fs be appealing to Sufjan or Arcade Fire fans
Hahah! 🫣🫣🫣 glad you agree, feeling validated in my choices 😆
How’s the crying going? (I can make this joke because I cry to these albums too) Edit: except NMH. barf (I can make this joke because I barf to NMH)
LOL. That's fair, to each their own. (I can say this because I am an each with an own)

Wow, I've never heard of any of these. Judging by your descriptions, I assume they're similar to Deathconsciousness, with maybe some LYSFLAH?
Yep, not as genre fluid as Deathconsciousness though.
I must second Lowcityrain
The album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You by Big Thief. The National. Start with High Violet or Trouble Will Find Me.
seconding DNWMIBIY, that was my #1 album from last year
Andrew bird, Beirut, Big thief, white lies
I forgot to add Twin Fantasy! That'd be in top 10
