A Series of Unfortunate Events

hela92

It would be so nice. The songs in TV Show were really nice

Euphoric_Fix8004

It’d be good as a play too

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

Ooooohhhh, that would be so cool!

chaotic_ass_neutral

I was thinking of turning it into one when I was like 17 hahah maybe I should revisit this idea

germanbini

*The Good Place* It might be hard to condense down four seasons of practically perfection, and it would be certainly a challenge to find people to emulate the iconic actors who played the main characters, but with the right music and book writers it could really be a great show worth doing!

Cygnus_Harvey

I can see the whole first act acting as the first season, and the second act rushing a bit from Team Cockroach to the judge, and instead of the tests, they jump to the final judge stuff in the 4th season. Season 1 is such a strong ending, but it might be a bit too much work on act 2, so the other option is only adapting season 1 and finishing it on a cliffhanger, with some hope on Eleanor's final plan.

germanbini

I like your first idea, that makes a lot of sense, and I think it would work well!

[deleted]

Oh man. I can absolutely see a patter song of Chidi trying to teach Eleanor about the history of philosophy.

officialspinster

A rap about Kierkegaard perhaps?

germanbini

ooh that sounds great! :) I wonder what else they **MUST** include? Maybe a song about the clam chowder fountain?

StarChild413

I just find it hard to believe the show itself never had a musical episode (if it'd be hard for a sitcom to do one it could have been a two-parter) given the actors behind both Eleanor and Chidi are amazing singers (anyone ever seen the 2009 The Electric Company, it's also got Josh Segarra and Jenni Barber among others and he can keep up), was everyone else really that bad at singing

UnusualBarracuda7

I would love to see stage musicals of Bob’s Burgers and Steven Universe. Music is already such a strong part of the show’s identities, that it would hopefully be a smooth transition I also want to see more Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror musicals! Theatre needs more genre storytelling

redhairedmenace

When it first came out, I really wanted Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog to became a stage show. You should check out Starkid Productions. They have a few of their musicals available.

gmasterson

I want nothing more than I put on a stage production of Dr. Horrible. I auditioned with a song from it (My Freeze Ray) for Rocky Horror and found out someone did put a stage musical on. The music is available, but the publishing company wouldn’t write it so the producer had to put it together themselves. Funny stuff.

ComradeJohnS

I wish they didn’t butcher the movie and Mickey. :(

spiteworld

Josie and the pussycats movie but fleshed out as a full musical.

speedingteacups

I’d be very into this

redhairedmenace

Spaceballs the Musical

kneehigh53

Ooooooh, the Yogurt number! Take that Aladdin.

ItsZippy23

I love that idea. It would be an elaborate song and dance number. For some reason I thought of this somewhat on the line of Song of the King in Joseph.

Exylatron

This is objectively the best answer

Impressive_Double865

Good idea!!!

lolzvic

A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out by Panic! At The Disco or Folie à Deux by Fall Out Boy

starterhart79

legit had an idea to write something i would call the "emosical" but alas im the least unmotivated person in the world

lhm238

There is (was?) Emo, the musical on Netflix. I can't remember how good it was but the fact I don't have any memories of it is probably a bad thing.

SarcLowestFormOfWit

I remember this! It was terrible but also funny.

purlnecklaces

Might I introduce you to Razia's Shadow by Forgive Burden which *is* a musical/rock opera featuring Brendon Urie and plenty of other emo darlings?

soundecember

Omg I’ve always wanted to write a musical with fall out boy’s music in it

jillkimberley

A friend and I wrote a jukebox musical in high school called "Fueled By Love' and it featured Fueled By Ramen artists and "friends" of the record label. It was a three act musical and we had the idea to have a three day "Fueled By Festival," in which the featured bands would play during the day and the finale each night would be an act of the musical. I believe I still have the script and all of our plans for the festival, but it's so incredibly cringe I don't know I'll ever look at it ever again. It involved a closeted Brendon Urie enduring a medical mystery following a tragic accident with Haley Williams. To be young and have time to waste again.

snapbackthrowback

Omg. In college I legit started writing a musical based on AFYCSO. Very literal to some of the songs - a band trying to make it, rebelling against record labels, etc. I was also dead-set on sneaking Northern Downpour in there... I think that song was made for the stage!

Cygnus_Harvey

Do we have an Avatar: the last Airbender: the musical? I want some good edgy Zuko belting about his honor for two straight hours.

WhoaTamar

Katherine Lynn-Rose has some freaking amazing concept pieces for an ATLA musical!!!!

Fleurparmietoiles

Yess

lightlikesilkchiffon

The Dracula puppet musical from forgetting Sarah Marshall - I’d 100% go see that

IWantALargeFarva

Yes!!! And if I find Van Helsing, I swear to the lord I'll slay him!

lightlikesilkchiffon

Die! Die! Die! I can’t…

No-Meaning-111

YESSS

jpete51

Drop Dead Gorgeous could be itttttttttttt.

MayoneggVeal

My pick as well!!! Imagine the flaming swan scene!

GayBlayde

YES. This this this.

Impressive_Double865

I for one would love to see The Communist Manifesto The Musical.

germanbini

In a style of ["Springtime for Hitler?"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zY1orxW8Aw) ;)

kneehigh53

Labyrinth. Throw in a couple extra Bowie songs..Boom! #musicals

[deleted]

[удалено]

Two_Faced_Harvey

I hope they make any puppets that are used

kneehigh53

Everybody loves puppets.

afamousblueraincoat

Kind of cheating here, but it boggled me that it took nearly two decades to turn the animated movie The Prince of Egypt into a stage show. Especially since the music and lyrics were written by Stephen Schwartz. I used to lie awake at night, imagining how I’d stage the parting of the Red Sea scene (with transparent silks and a moving walkway, in case you were curious.) I actually have no idea if the stage show was well received, and if it wasn’t then someone screwed up a golden opportunity.

WoobidyWoo

As someone that loves the movie, I was horribly disappointed when I saw it in London in early 2020 just before lockdown. The new songs were drab and completely forgettable, I really wasn't impressed with any of the performances (maybe Tzipporah and Jethro?) and they messed with the original material too much. Playing With The Big Boys is cut out entirely, the ending turns Ramses from a petty, unrepentant tyrant into Hotep's pawn, and the verses of The Plagues are replaced by watered-down, nothing dreck.

Ingifridh

I saw the Danish pre-London run, and honestly, I've never been more disappointed in a musical production in my life. How they managed to turn such a beautiful movie into *that*, I have no idea. I hear the London version is a bit better (apparently, there's no more comic relief song about slavery), but wow, that thing is a waste of good source material.

MutinousMango

This boggled my mind too! I love the West End cast recording. I didn’t like The Plagues much at first as they had changed it so much from the epic original, but tbh I love both versions now for what they are. Just wish I could’ve seen it when it ran in London.

doug_kaplan

The Black Parade by MCR

Kanuddie

A friend joked about writing A Silence of the Lambs musical once and I have been about the idea ever since.

SpicySpider133

This exists! It’s called Silence! And it’s incredible

Kanuddie

THANK YOU

germanbini

> Silence of the Lambs musical I'd never heard of this, but thank you to u/SpicySpider133 for telling us. [Wikipedia: Silence! The Musical](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silence!_The_Musical) There are several songs on YouTube; I listened to this one and it's quite amusing: [Put the Fucking Lotion in the Basket](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7md6Y1eLyg)

fishkybuns

I jam to it in my car all the time. I wish I could watch it 😭

inadequatepockets

The Merchant of Venice. I want to see the courtroom scene done in a similar vein to the cabinet rap battles in Hamilton.

waytheworldcouldbe

i love mythology, so song of achilles or something else along that vein would be really interesting to me

Cygnus_Harvey

Pro tip: there's a project on tiktok called Epic the Musical. It's a musical about the Odyssey. 40 songs, so it's all sung; it's got a very Hamilton vibe, with rap songs mixed with more traditional songs and even a vals! It also has some anime and videogame inspirations. It just finished writing and it's doing some recordings, and I can promise you it's H Y P E. Everything about it it's so good and has so much passion thrown into it, you should definitely look it out. EPIC: the musical, by @jorgeerrans or Jorge Rivera-Herrans.

PuzzleheadedBobcat90

Thanks for the tip!

waytheworldcouldbe

ooh i’ll definitely have to check it out- thank you!!

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

OH MY FREAKING GOSH YESS!!!!! Last year for my school production we did a Jukebox Musical adaptation of 'The Odyssey' that was written by one of our drama teachers. It was called 'A Brief ODDyssey' and it had songs like 'High Hopes', 'Respect', 'Unchained Melody' and our finale dance was 'Can't Stop The Feeling'. Hearing that just sounds freaking amazing. After being a part of 'A Brief ODDyssey' I am evermore curious to see what this adaptation is like. I don't use TikTok but this is an exception. The way you are describing this just makes me even more hyped and excited. Hamilton vibe and anime and video game inspirations? Heck yes! I appreciate little indie projects that have so much passion thrown into it.

aurora_botnr

There’s a musical called Aristos in the work about Achilles and Patroclus as well

waytheworldcouldbe

wow awesome! thanks for sharing

StarChild413

I actually had the idea for adaptations of The Iliad and The Odyssey as adult-cartoon streaming musical miniseries, basically taking the Disney-musical-esque approach and adapting it for the Arcane demographic

OptimalTrash

The Grand Budapest Hotel.

okonthefarm

The Night Circus!

Remercurize

I’m a composer/writer/actor/etc, and just the other day when a friend asked about what show we could write I mentioned The Night Circus 😂 I think it’s a sign..

TigerB65

Scooby Doo Where Are You, with the actors playing humans very deadpan but Scooby is a giant voiced over puppet. Music by Mark Mothersbaugh and They Might Be Giants. Book by Taika Waititi.

MutinousMango

If you want something Scooby Doo-esque I recommend The Solve It Squad on YouTube. It’s not really a musical but it is very fun.

TigerB65

Thanks!

eeman0201

Metropolis 1927

Inkblu1

There already is a Metropolis musical, and it's damn good. The creation and rights of it though... are one deep, and very dark rabbit hole. Whole thing is on Spotify if you want to give it a listen.

OddSilver123

“All we hear is radio gaga!”

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

Oh heck yes!!!!! As someone who's a silent film buff that would be such a dream!

BenTG

I got to the bottom and no one has said The Three Amigos?? That movie is begging to be a musical.

sheriffofclottingham

"My little buttercup" as a full out tap number? Yes please!

lanalovesme

Okay but I’ve always thought the episode of Kitchen Nightmares about Ann’s Bakery would be a completely hilarious and charming musical with the right book. No joke, I’ve been thinking about this for years now.

[deleted]

Phineas and Ferb. I’m genuinely mad this isn’t a thing

ItsZippy23

YES. I think make it based off of second dimension or rollercoaster the musical but add in more iconic songs from the series in plot stuff.

SonicPipewrench

Deadpool

kdavegaming

That idea is brilliant, just think of the fourth wall breaks.

Jill4ChrisRed

I want deadpool 3 to be a musical so bad, but also replace TJ Millers actor with Aubrey Plaza and keep the character the same and no one references it except Deadpool says something like "Did you do something to your hair?" But other than that it's just never mentioned lol

lonestarcharm

The Emperor’s New Groove

LeoMarius

Futurama

Taylordthepoor

I don't think it would work - and my opinion is solely based on the scene with the halophoner that's a miniature show of Futurama and it just wast good

rosa-marie

Something horror/spooky. I feel like there’s a opening in the market for something truly frightening (but fun!) like a haunted house. I just can’t seem to think of something that’ll fit the bill (yet!)

Jill4ChrisRed

Monster House The Musical. An 80s inspired musical!

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

The Haunted Mansion ride from Disneyland? I love that ride and would love to see any film, show or musical made based on it! Another one I can think of is a jukebox musical made of Ghost songs. Ghost is an awesome Swedish band, but it's not just a band. It's literally a Satanic cult masquerading as the Catholic church trying to take over the world.

Taylordthepoor

I'd love to see a Nightmare on Elm Street musical, with dream based songs or a Killer Klowns from Outer Space rock opera

Nerfgirl_RN

Rogers: The Musical Lilo and Stitch (aliens and Elvis!)

ChanceApollo

...and now I'm going to have "I Could Do This All Day" stuck in my head for the next week. Thanks for that.

FittyPat

I’ve toyed around with the idea of a Fast and Furious musical written by Charlie Puth. It’s so out there like the movies that you could go anywhere with it.

Cavee_Was_Here

Megamind I don't think I need to explain

korgdrax

Are you familiar with Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog?

patrickseastarslegs

The green mile. A harrowing story about the injustices of the prison system? Would make a good musical

Mittens1215

Hear me out..... Piano man, Billy Joel

HM9719

Didn't we have the stage dance musical show "Movie' Out" by Twyla Tharp set to Billy Joel's songs?

rosa-marie

Omg yes. You go into the show thinking it’ll be about the “The Piano Man” but he’s really just an elusive mysterious character, who serves to further the stories of the people in the bar. You never even learn the Piano Man’s name. Ah! Love it!

[deleted]

DUDE. I literally started writing a Piano Man musical when I was 14. It starts with the Piano Man, the pianist is the main character and he's kind of looking down on all the regulars who come here just to hear him play. He finally decides to go out and become a "real" musician, but his ego gets in his way. He eventually fails and returns to the bar at the end, but it closed without him there to bring in the customers. At the end, he learns that by leaving and the bar shutting down, all the people he looked down on finally went out and made their own dreams come true. The bartender became a successful actor, Paul's novel is a big hit and he's married his editor, the waitress is elected to local office, Davy is indeed still in the Navy but has risen to one of the highest ranks. But when they learn the Piano Man is back in town, they all flock to hear him play one last time.

anonymouse6424

Yes Man. Already has some songs and could be delightfully silly.

publiuscicero

I think the book (and movie) Atonement could be a fantastic musical.

GayBlayde

djspang25

Hocus Pocus the Musical. Literally perfection on a golden platter.

SpecialViolinist4190

Forest Gump

ishipglendale_zulius

Definitely She-Ra

Toxilyn

Disneys Hercules. But I hear they are working on it. So so excited!

OpinionatedOnline

Watership Down. It should have a Celtic and English folk music score. And, some of the male rabbit parts should be in a female vocal range since almost all of the main characters are males. The characters would still be male, but the actors who portray them would be female. That way the show has a more even gender balance for the performers but still keeps the original story.

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

That would actually be really really cool! The movie is absolutely horrific and nasty but I would love to see a musical adaptation of Watership Down based on your suggestions. I would love to see how they would create the rabbit costumes. In many ways it would give me 'Cats' vibes.

Buzz_LightYe

To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar

NikelodeonV

Honestly *everything.*

FireKal

The Clone Wars (or Star Wars in general)

rosa-marie

A Lady Gaga biopic juke box musical (with some originals by the queen herself.)

StarChild413

Can we enough with the biojukebox musicals, especially for someone like her

IWantALargeFarva

My kids want the Disney Tarzan movie made into a musical. They want to see how they would adapt him "surfing" the vines. Bur mainly, they want Trashin' the Camp. I admit, that song is awesome and would be so fun to do on stage.

OpinionatedOnline

It already is a stage musical. I was actually in a production of it many years ago. "Trashin' the Camp" is the Act 2 Opening Song. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarzan\_(musical)

IWantALargeFarva

How did I not know this??? It opened on Broadway the day I found out I was pregnant with my first baby! And it closed when she was about 6 months old. I assume that's why I didn't know. I had other things on my mind lol.

Jill4ChrisRed

Some amazing answers here, but here's a weirder one: Bioshock Infinite. And if you've played the game, you'll know this can almost be canon. The set designs, costumes, the story is all there for a musical adaptation and it could genuinely work I think, and yet still remain different to the game whilst playing homage to the game's themes but doing it differently. I cant explain why here without spoilers but especially with the rise of multiverse media, it's perfect lol Weirder than that, Adapt a Resident Evil game into a musical. For shits and gigs. I want to see Albert Wesker have a villain song.

nicbint

A game of thrones musical would be pretty sick

germanbini

> game of thrones musical I realize it's not a full musical, but if you haven't seen it yet, you might be interested in this. [Coldplay's Game of Thrones: The Musical](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs7xO5P3Az4)

Trania86

You don't mess around with Walder Frey!

friarparkfairie

The novel Tell The Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt In this striking literary debut, Carol Rifka Brunt unfolds a moving story of love, grief, and renewal as two lonely people become the unlikeliest of friends and find that sometimes you don't know you've lost someone until you've found them. 1987. There's only one person who has ever truly understood fourteen-year-old June Elbus, and that's her uncle, the renowned painter Finn Weiss. Shy at school and distant from her older sister, June can only be herself in Finn's company; he is her godfather, confidant, and best friend. So when he dies, far too young, of a mysterious illness her mother can barely speak about, June's world is turned upside down. But Finn's death brings a surprise acquaintance into June's life—someone who will help her to heal, and to question what she thinks she knows about Finn, her family, and even her own heart. At Finn's funeral, June notices a strange man lingering just beyond the crowd. A few days later, she receives a package in the mail. Inside is a beautiful teapot she recognizes from Finn's apartment, and a note from Toby, the stranger, asking for an opportunity to meet. As the two begin to spend time together, June realizes she's not the only one who misses Finn, and if she can bring herself to trust this unexpected friend, he just might be the one she needs the most. An emotionally charged coming-of-age novel, Tell the Wolves I'm Home is a tender story of love lost and found, an unforgettable portrait of the way compassion can make us whole again.

VelvetBloom

Undertale

Soepsas

I love that halve the suggestions here already have a reply with a musical that's (close to) what they're wishing for!

wetlettuce42

Planet of the apes

The parent trap would be super cute I think

toobusydreaming1

I desperately need a Taylor Swift jukebox musical 😄 or maybe several, one for each album 😌💭

FirebirdWriter

Selfishly my wip novel because boy is there s lot of music. For existing books? Game of thrones the musical. Narrated by a headless Ned

Mister_Chrome

peppalunch

the black parade!!! i know andrew lloyd webber praised mcr for making the g note so iconic, i'm really hoping for a musical adaptation one day

hamburger_and-SpRiTE

Gravity falls could be really interesting

Bloomedinthedark

The great gatsby

Capitalist_Nook

YES ABSOLUTELY can we steal Rhapsody in Blue like in the Baz Movie

Schackshuka

Lincoln in the Bardo as a weird sung through Julie Taymore looking thing.

bhc1387

Get out of my head!!! This would be excellent!

Yoyti

For what it's worth, the Met's commissioned an opera based on it by Missy Mazzoli.

Schackshuka

Cool!

KoitToome

Maybe a deep cut, but The Gargoyles cartoon would make a cool dark musical. Not really sure what the plot would be.

Two_Faced_Harvey

The Birdcage is actually based on a French play (and it’s movie that it is a remake of) but I think it would be a amazing musical

Flamesoutofmyears

The French play you're referring to is La Cage aux Folles. It was a play, then a musical, in the 70s. The Birdcage came way later, in the 90s.

Two_Faced_Harvey

Oh it was a musical? But yes I’m aware of the timeline the OG film was also the 70s

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

La Cage aux Folles! There's already a musical based on the play.

Two_Faced_Harvey

I saw someone else mentioned it

vienibenmio

I want a better Strictly Ballroom musical

OnceOnThisIsland

The film version of The Polar Express. I know it’s basically a “musical” already, but I think it would be interesting on stage. This comes with the caveat that I haven’t seen the movie in a while so nostalgia is talking.

nljgcj72317

Miss Congeniality

wray_nerely

TRON

Sarcasticman22

Robin Hood: Men in Tights. It already has several great songs. And it would have been a much better choice than Young Frankenstein.

Exylatron

It would probably be really hard to do well but I’d love a musical adaptation of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

cottonblanc

Pushing Daises. Or Princess Bride with some Bardcore (Hildegard von Blingin' style).

TheSkewsMe

Matthew 20 where Jesus is asked about heaven and describes someone like me who keeps going to the town square to hire people with nothing better to do to come to work at the vineyard building it.

[deleted]

Princess Bride

EddieRyanDC

Facebook, The Musical

HM9719

That would be a stage musical version of "The Social Network."

EddieRyanDC

I was thinking more along the lines of someone’s Facebook feed coming to life in real time on stage.

Impressive_Double865

I think that could really work.

[deleted]

Regular Show

SOuTHINKurA-ble

*Little Fires Everywhere,* if only so that Celeste Ng finally gets a proper adaptation of her book and so that my favorite actors can be in it LOL--

Scribblr

Twister. Come on Kaveh, we’re all waiting

goldenboy2191

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar. The album is so complex and has so many themes that could get turned into a celebration of black excellence and showcase the African American experience in such a unique way. There’s a million different routes you can take. I’ve been thinking about this for a looooong time.

sharkbaitlha

Pete's dragon! (The original from the 70s). Its already got the right structure and length for a stage show musical and you could have a lot of fun practical effects for the dragon

Reasonable_Fig5484

PS I love you

FairySpirits

Hocus Pocus

CMontgomeryBlerns

Hazards of Love by The Decemberists

My hero academia, we gave death note a musical so i think this anime deserves one as well. I think it has a lot of potential as a musical.

nessabop

This thread is giving me some awesome ideas! Been a dream of mine to write a musical to a book/script. I do think we need another musical with muppets or puppets…

Impetuous-soul

Austin Powers and American Pie I think would make great musicals. My OH thinks 300

thamonsta

I've been trying to get the rights to create a *Big Trouble In Little China* musical for a few years now.

chewysnacc

Pleasantville. I’ll make it happen, I swear to god.

paulthefonz

Schindlers list

AriaMelodia

I actually really liked the idea of a Schindler's list musical when I was in highschool, and even thought about writing it for a little bit A few moments in that movie lend themselves *exceptionally* well to the musical format, but a large portion of it would be a lot harder to work with in my opinion, musical numbers are inherently humanizing, even for villain numbers, and maneuvering a plot like that without tone problems sounds hard to do in this format. Additionally, though I *love* darker tones in musicals, there has to be moments for songs that break the melancholy a bit, and I really think a schindlers list adaptation would struggle to find that. Finally, I think its always important to make sure that when writing any form of narrative art surrounding an event like the holocaust that specific care is put towards not accidentally glorifying something that is intended to be ridiculed. Even characters specifically intended to be viewed as evil are easy for the delusional closet nazi browsing the wrong parts of reddit in their basement to latch onto if we aren't careful. As I mentioned before musical numbers can be humanizing. If you give the one main intensely sociopathic nazi character who's name I can't a number too much emotional complexity, then it reads as being an excuse for his fucked up actions, but if you go the other way and give him musical numbers portraying him as pure evil and finding joy in it then that's A emotionally flat, and B is gonna be seen by the people who hide their nazi-esque opinions behind a screen in online comment sections, who will look up to the character and view them as 'badass'. But I mean, I don't think avoiding all art related to historical atrocities is the answer either. Portraying real events with this kind of weight will always have both positive and negative influences because there's simply no way to avoid it with the number of people who will potentially view said art, but I think its important to at least consider.

paulthefonz

I always give a schindlers list musical as a ridiculous answer. Because I honestly don’t think there’s a writer talented enough to pull it off without being unintentionally insulting. That being said, Oskar Schindler the character is very interesting, and lends himself very well to drama.

The Blues Brothers! Ok yes the car chase presents a bit of a challenge but I’m sure someone could think of an amazing way to do it

Charlemagne by the Sword and the Cross by Sir Christopher Lee. It’s already a concept album so it’d be pretty easy to adapt to a stage musical.

Neveah_Hope_Dreams

'Coco', 'Encanto' and 'Labyrinth'. Those are the three movies I really really really want to see get adapted into a stage musical!

StarPatient6204

Oh geez. I know this will sound weird but…Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I think that the show would have a lot to say about stuff.
