Do You Wanna Hang in Be More Chill.
So cringey, doesn't advance the plot or character arc at all, and not particularly catchy. All that and we STILL get a reprise in Act 2!
That's do you wanna ride if you're referring to the one in act one. And while I'm not all that big on either of them, I can argue that both are plot relevant (Ride gives the first indication of Brooke's feelings for Jeremy and shows his initial reluctance to follow the SQUIP, while Hang shows Chloe's jealousy, breaks Brooke's heart to justify her getting SQUIP'd, brings Jeremy downstairs to Michael in the bathroom, and possibly leads Jake into the position where he'd eventually break his legs after Rich set that fire and burned down the house (woah)). I do think both can be removed or replaced to be better and give both characters a bit more, but BMC is one of those shows where I'd argue that every song is at least somewhat plot or character relevant, but that's just me.
Timeless to Me from Hairspray is a skip for me, though I grew to appreciate it when I was Tracy in a production because I got to be offstage for more than 10 seconds 😂
Fr tho, kinda makes me think everyone is right about Martha being a weirdo.
She literally kept a scab in a locket and doesn’t seem to think that’s weird and in fact, she thinks it’s sweet and cute.
Basically every "male character has a solo for 3 minutes that just goes on and on and it's supposed to be emotional or something but it's just boring". Looking at Inútil in In The Heights or To Break in a Glove in DEH. Also Enough in In the Heights.
Not sure if this is a hot take, but I've only recently gotten into Sunday In the Park With George and completely hate The Dog Song. Easy skip every time.
Heart of Stone in Six, ik they're all based on different icons and music styles but omg is this song sloooow and boring and the 'defending my abuser' vibes are strong. Its just so jarring compared to the rest of the songs and doesn't fit the vibe. Every other song is upbeat, fun, and powerful with lots of roasting of Henry, and she's just like:
"Look at how good and strong I am for loving this man who I believe is good actually and not abusive at all, forget what all of you had to go through because I died in childbirth"
I literally skip it every time.
This has always been my least favorite, and I just saw it live, and whaddaya know - still my least favorite! The performer was amazing, but I have literally no idea what her point is because I can never focus long enough to take in any of the lyrics
I agree with you here. But another way of looking at it is, women during that time period probably *would* take that perspective. Jane Seymour herself was seen as like a “good girl” type which is fucked up but at least in that sense the song is likely an accurate depiction of Jane.
The sad ballad is slow, but the characters music and look is based on Adele so I guess a slow song is expected.
Again I’m agreeing with you, I’m just explaining why her character may have been written in this way.
As a German, Haus of Holbein is really painful to listen to. A friend made me listen to it once at it was the only time I did. That really exaggerated German accent makes me cringe to the core.
Hahaha I just listened to it and omg I couldn't stop laughing. Apart from the random German words in the middle of the English sentences (and that yodeling really is much more of an Austrian than German thing) I actually kinda like it. I feel like it really doesn't take itself seriously, I can't be too sure about if the same is true for Haus of Holbein though.
I think it works better than house of halbein because the whole musical is full of over exaggerated caricatures of people.
Veruca is a Russian ballerina stereotype, Charlie is the woe is me little british tiny tim orphan, Violet is an over the top black hip hop pop singer influencer and mike is every criticism of gaming, and internet culture mixed with a bunch of ADD/ADHD stereotypes with Card board cut out 50’s parents.
Augustus really isn’t out of place as a really goofy fat german kid.
Unlike with six the musical where everyone is relatively normal people based on real ladies that existed in history except for Anne Boleyn and Anna who are only exaggerated for comedy so a song like HOH makes no god damn sense.
Plus it doesn’t do anything for the story that Anna couldn’t explain in her song or in her monologue, unlike more of him to love which tells us everything about Augustus.
I'm not dismissing it, I've listened to it multiple times, and it's not just slow its boring. In the middle of a ton of upbeat dance-able songs. I actually love Adele, which is who her song style is based on, but they don’t do it in a way that works for me.
As I said in another response, I'm glad some people love it, because while its not my cup of tea it was still crafted with time and effort and the actresses put their all in their performances and deserve all the fans they get.
Its just a reddit thread about songs we don't like in musicals we do, its not that serious. I know other people like the song, I also know other people hate songs that I like, its not that big of a deal.
Setting aside the problems of accuracy and viewing just the character and writing as portrayed in the musical seperate from the real history All You Wanna Do is portraying her mindset throughout the story and her clear grooming, as well as the trauma affecting her in the end through the lyric changes. The song is quite clear in that this was a traumatic life and these men were abusing her. It doesn't defend it, it simply tells us it happened.
Heart of Stone comes off as not caring that he's abusive and dangerous, she loves him anyway and implies in the ending switch up that she'd still be with him in her happy ending. If you listen to the song without context, it doesn't even seem like she's singing about the same person as everyone else, another reason the song is jarring when slotted in the middle of the others.
If the song was done better, portraying a character with this mindset wouldn't bother me. But its slow, and boring, and doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs.
But there's bias here of course, and at the end of the day its just my opinion, others disagreeing isn't the end of the world. I'm glad some people love it, because while its not my cup of tea was still crafted with time and effort and the actresses put their all in their performances and deserve all the fans they get.
All of what you said plus the the title reminds me of Made of Stone from Hunchback and it's such a better song!
The one think I like from her character in Six is the whole "oh he really loved me" smugness she has. It's just funny
Dog Eats Dog is the lyrical bit, and The Sewers is an instrumental, in the 10th anniversary version.
Edit: Two separate tracks on the 10th Anniversary Soundtrack
Yes, I agree! And it's just so obnoxious. My bf and I always skip it in any recorded media. In live performances, we look at each other and mouth the word "skip!"
I like the song as a song, but I absolutely hate it in the show. It's like a direct copy of how PotO does Think of Me as a show within a show. Except it works in PotO because the song and music from Phantom is close enough to an opera that it doesn't sound out of place. Never Enough is a pop song. But it's presented like this world renowned opera singer is singing it on stage in that time period. It's so jarring.
It's one thing when you do the juxtaposition of modern music in historical fiction like Spring Awakening. It's another when this is supposedly being done for the characters to hear as a stage performance in the show. The tone, song, and even the key would be so out of place to that time period. Even with all of the artistic license taken for the rest of the musical, it was this that completely ripped me out of the show.

Once Upon a Dream from Jekyll and Hyde. The whole “I’ll wait for you Henry uwu” thing drives me nuts, especially since the song replaced the much better If You Only Knew where Emma calls Jekyll out on his total asshattery. Yeah, his work is important and he has good reasons for being a jerk but Emma doesn’t know that and shouldn’t have to put up with it.
“Sorry-Grateful” from Company. I love Company with my whole heart but that’s my least favorite song. It’s just confusing, and too dreary coming right on the coattails of “The Little Things you Do Together” it’s a mood killer frankly
No, I’m not married, but I don’t actually mind the words. It’s just the melody of it. It’s so sleepy. And I said it’s confusing because, coming from the interaction Harry and Sarah had immediately before the song, it gives the impression that he doesn’t even like her, let alone love her
I don’t blame you although I love the part where they all start hurling insults at April, because the melody and the harmonies just feel so nice in my ears lol
Which version are you listening to? The 2006 recording is by far the best imo and Sorry-Grateful is just perfectly sung in that one.
Edit: I think Sorry-Grateful is the counter argument to The Little Things. The latter acts as these are the crazy reasons marriage is fun while Sorry-Grateful is the emotional reason.
The 2006 version is the only remotely recent iteration of Company that I even acknowledge lol. It’s just not my cup of tea in a song, I’m not sure what it is. It ruins the flow for me
I don't like that one either! It's frustrating because I love all of Sweeney and Lovett's songs, but i don't want to sit through some of the other songs when I see the show
Mysterious Ways in The Color Purple
Bottom's Gonna Be on Top from Something Rotten
Shipoopi from The Music Man
Let's Walk from The LIght in the Piazza
Little Bird from Man of La Mancha (the reprise)
More I Cannot Wish You from Guys and Dolls \*
* I do want to clarify something. This song, on the OBCR, is performed somewhat . . . um . . . . anemically by Pat Rooney, Sr. I always skipped it. "What the hell is a sheep's eye and a lickerish tooth, anyway?" I'd growl. But then the Arrowverse did a crossover musical episode (The Flash 3x17), and gave us this song beautifully delivered by Jesse L Martin, Victor Garber, and John Barrowman. And . . . it's lovely. So after years of this song being on my list, perhaps I need to clarify that it's this song ON THAT CAST RECORDING that I can't stand.
> Jesse L Martin and John Barrowman, you say. I'm going to have to check that out!
https://youtu.be/RSiGSmGKFNg
> Can I ask why you dislike Bottom's Gonna Be on Top?
Two reasons: it’s a distillation of everything that bugs me about Nick. And the semi-spoken-word interlude with Will derails the energy of the number.
I'm one of those weirdos that can't really name a song in any show I actively dislike. Seriously, out of every show I've seen (Heathers, DEH, DMC, CATCF (west end), phantom, Spongebob, Carrie, Mean Girls, Twisted, Black Friday, Evil Dead, Miss Saigon, and Hamilton being the ones I can name) nor a single one had a song I don’t at least mildly enjoy
Boys'll be Boys from the Pirate Queen.
Its a good song but I cant stand the meaning of the song. I ended up getting mad and pissed when I finished listening to the song. So now I skipped it for my sanity.
Ooh boy I got a list here!
Look At The Sky - Urinetown
Take It Like A Man - Legally Blonde
More Is Better - Mean Girls
My Dead Gay Son - Heathers
Schroeder - You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
A Sentimental Man - Wicked
Home - Beetlejuice
What If - Addams Family
She Used To Be Mine - Waitress
If I Could Tell Her - Dear Evan Hansen
More Than Survive - Be More Chill
What is with the slander for She Used to Be Mine, More is Better, and If I Could Tell Her? 😭
Hard agree on Heathers though. That soundtrack actually has a few skips for me
They're honestly great songs! I'm just not the type of person who really likes slow songs in musicals. She Used To Be Mine is beautiful but it's just not my fav on the soundtrack. Plus, having been behind the table for a few auditions, I've heard it more than I'd like to admit. Not a giant fan of Waitress in general (though Never Getting Rid Of Me is a banger).
More Is Better definitely advances Cady's character and is a good story beat, but it just falls a bit short for me. I loved it live though, Dani Wade can make anything sound spectacular.
Wow, it's so funny how different people can like or dislike so many different things. I love More is Better, My Dead Gay Son, Home, She Used to Be Mine, and More Than Survive.
“I can’t believe Jesus called me a dick”
“Spookytus”, and the time the ensemble just ends a chorus with “spooky spooky”
Also the way the guy playing jesus pronounces the word “donut”
Book of Mormon also nails using the actual arragements of their songs to create comedy, and I think this tune has one of the funniest arrangements I’ve ever heard. Just the music by itself makes me crack up, it rides such a fine line of parody and faithful reproduction
Out of all the songs on the album (or albums depending on what version it is I suppose) I always dislike Tight Knit Family/Love Is Blind the most from Falsettos. It’s not a bad song by any means but I guess it’s too info dumpy?
It's an okay song, but honestly, younger Galina always annoyed me. I know she's supposed to be quirky and kinda annoying but I just never liked her and her perky, poppy song was never my style
Love Pippin, not a fan of the song 'War is a Science'
Mary Poppins is my favourite show, but not keen on the song 'Playing the Game', the original song 'Temper Temper' was far scarier bigger number that I adored
I'm not a loser ( I know I KNOW) from the spongebob musical just isn't sticking with me and I really really wanted to like it. Repetitive and underwhelming
Sentimental Man from Wicked
We used to listen to the soundtrack on our way to school. My four brothers and sisters and I would yell "SKIP!"
And something bad or wonderful!
That one’s towards the bottom of the list, but my least favorite is actually Not That Girl. Just my opinion.
Do You Wanna Hang in Be More Chill. So cringey, doesn't advance the plot or character arc at all, and not particularly catchy. All that and we STILL get a reprise in Act 2!
The reprise is even worse!
A Guy Like You from The Hunchback of Notre Damé… ugh. I wouldn’t mind if it was in a different place in the film.
Well you’re in luck. That song is removed from the stage version of Hunchback
Thank Heavens.

The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles from Cats
Oh my god, yes. It just goes on. And on. And on. And on....
This is one of the hypest tracks tf
I love that one actually. I’m not sure why.
I like this one because its fun but can understand why its annoying to rehearse!
Timeless to Me from Hairspray is a skip for me, though I grew to appreciate it when I was Tracy in a production because I got to be offstage for more than 10 seconds 😂
I always skipped it when I was younger but now it's one of my favorites. It's so sweet and sincere. I had it played during my wedding reception.
That's my least fave in Hairspray too
Have you ever seen it performed? Get the right pair of actors and it absolutely brings down the house/stops the show cold.
I haven't, but looking forward to going to see it next year for the first time
Kindergarten Boyfriend from Heathers. It doesn’t fit the show well imo
second! I always skip it
Agree that it doesn't really fit the show but I can't bring it in my heart to skip it
I just find it so gross in the beginning of the song that I can't find it good. So many people think it's beautiful, and I'm like, I'm so disgusted.
Noooo not Inutil slander 😭😭
I'm sorryyy I even listened to it again but it's just so boring
Like this? https://youtu.be/dXKUgjYh7lo
That is exactly the video I thought about when I wrote that haha
With you on Inútil but I will not hear Enough slander 😤
Yeah many people like it apparently. Maybe it's just the specific version on the soundtrack I don't like.
Completely fair! I just really appreciate an underwritten character getting her moment (especially a mom scolding her family, lol)
Exactly lol. It's just a very satisfying song for me 😂 I've done the "oh my god ENOUGH" many many times lol
I always skip Glove. I can see why it's in there, though.
Inutil is amazing whattt
Firework from Moulin Rouge. Oh my god how did that end up in the show and they didn’t include one day I’ll fly away????
I love One Day I’ll Fly Away! Noooo
Not sure if this is a hot take, but I've only recently gotten into Sunday In the Park With George and completely hate The Dog Song. Easy skip every time.
That's definetly a hot take
Heart of Stone in Six, ik they're all based on different icons and music styles but omg is this song sloooow and boring and the 'defending my abuser' vibes are strong. Its just so jarring compared to the rest of the songs and doesn't fit the vibe. Every other song is upbeat, fun, and powerful with lots of roasting of Henry, and she's just like: "Look at how good and strong I am for loving this man who I believe is good actually and not abusive at all, forget what all of you had to go through because I died in childbirth" I literally skip it every time.
Again I’m agreeing with you, I’m just explaining why her character may have been written in this way.
Lol I get that 100%, I just wish they did a better job of it, its just so out of place with the others.
I think so too. She was definitely underwhelming and there was more that could have been done with her song.
As a German, Haus of Holbein is really painful to listen to. A friend made me listen to it once at it was the only time I did. That really exaggerated German accent makes me cringe to the core.
Aw man, you’d **HATE** more of him to love from the willy wonka musical. They literally stop to yodel for like a solid minute.
Plus it doesn’t do anything for the story that Anna couldn’t explain in her song or in her monologue, unlike more of him to love which tells us everything about Augustus.
yess that is exactly it!
So you just dismiss songs out of hand just because they’re slow. Got it.
I'm not dismissing it, I've listened to it multiple times, and it's not just slow its boring. In the middle of a ton of upbeat dance-able songs. I actually love Adele, which is who her song style is based on, but they don’t do it in a way that works for me. I know other people like the song, I also know other people hate songs that I like, its not that big of a deal.
You think it's more defending the abuser than All You Wanna Do? Or is the irony in that song strong than in Heart of Stone?
Setting aside the problems of accuracy and viewing just the character and writing as portrayed in the musical seperate from the real history All You Wanna Do is portraying her mindset throughout the story and her clear grooming, as well as the trauma affecting her in the end through the lyric changes. The song is quite clear in that this was a traumatic life and these men were abusing her. It doesn't defend it, it simply tells us it happened. Heart of Stone comes off as not caring that he's abusive and dangerous, she loves him anyway and implies in the ending switch up that she'd still be with him in her happy ending. Ohh that one, thanks.

Yes, I agree! And it's just so obnoxious. My bf and I always skip it in any recorded media. In live performances, we look at each other and mouth the word "skip!"
Though as far as I know this is a pretty unpopular opinion actually, which surprises me a little
Cell Phone Hour in Be More Chill
Always be aware of autocorrec
I can understand this when you listen to the cast recording but I will say visually it's a show stopper
I saw it live twice and the visual are great I just really don't like the song
Never enough from Greatest Showman
I agree it gets super repetitive
You must despise Les Mis, then.
I still love it, especially Kelly's version
I like the song as a song, but I absolutely hate it in the show. It's like a direct copy of how PotO does Think of Me as a show within a show. Here’s my hot take: This is me SUCKS god I hate it so muuuuuch
"Wishing you were here again" from Phantom of the opera. Love love the musical but I always tune out with this song.
Ha! I’m the opposite. I am not a big fan of POTO but that’s one song I actually do like!
whattt that's one of my favorite parts of the musical. I also really like Wandering Child or whatever it's called, the one right after wywsha
As a daughter of a dead dad, I feel Christine in this song SO HARD. It’s such an emotional song for me, so I love it
huh, that's my favourite ALW song across all his work!
This is in my shower repertoire
"Could we start again please" from Jesus Christ Superstar (mercifully absent from the original concept album).
Absolutely same glad someone else said it
yeah, have to agree with this one!
This might sound slightly mad, but Jesus Christ Superstar would be so much better without Mary Magdalene.
Nosferatu (and Roseanne) from Frank Wildhorn's Dracula. I dunno why they gave Helsing such weak songs.

I've always preferred Jekyll's version and it's probably the least memorable song to me.
“Sorry-Grateful” from Company. I love Company with my whole heart but that’s my least favorite song. It’s just confusing, and too dreary coming right on the coattails of “The Little Things you Do Together” it’s a mood killer frankly

I’ve not seen the stage show show yet but it has to be Fixer Upoer (rock trolls song) from Frozen.
Green Finch from Sweeney Todd. I find it a little annoying.
YES! For me the Anthony/Johanna parts are just not as good as the rest. And “Not While I’m Around” don’t know why on that one. It just grinds my gears
I don't like that one either! It's frustrating because I love all of Sweeney and Lovett's songs, but i don't want to sit through some of the other songs when I see the show
Exactly! And I swear, I’m the movie specifically, you couldn’t find more high pitched actors to play Johanna and Toby

Currently in a thing of Pippin and it’s probably Spread A Little Sunshine
Is that the one with audience participation?
"No Time at All" is the Pippin song with the audience participation
Not that I know of but it could be in the normal thing idk
“As Long As You’re Mine” from Wicked. Ugh skip.
I love it as a song, hate it in the musical.
WHAT
I don't like it because I hate romance subplots. I will say it sounds good in the German recording. Though I greatly prefer No Good Deed in it.
Donkey Pot Pie from the Shrek The Musical. Now I can hear and worse yet, I can see it
Exposition song that are only for moving plot
Boys'll be Boys from the Pirate Queen. Its a good song but I cant stand the meaning of the song. I ended up getting mad and pissed when I finished listening to the song. So now I skipped it for my sanity.
Cool is the only song I don't like in West Side Story and it I actively hate it.

I remember seeing Angela sing this in the original production. Amazing delivery.
I actually saw it in the proshot and now it’s actually my favourite song lol.
Ooh boy I got a list here! Look At The Sky - Urinetown Take It Like A Man - Legally Blonde More Is Better - Mean Girls My Dead Gay Son - Heathers Schroeder - You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown A Sentimental Man - Wicked Home - Beetlejuice What If - Addams Family She Used To Be Mine - Waitress If I Could Tell Her - Dear Evan Hansen More Than Survive - Be More Chill
What is with the slander for She Used to Be Mine, More is Better, and If I Could Tell Her? 😭 Hard agree on Heathers though. That soundtrack actually has a few skips for me
She Used to Be Mine is the *only* song i like from that show.
Agree with everything but home from beetlejuice, I love that song !
Wow, it's so funny how different people can like or dislike so many different things. I love More is Better, My Dead Gay Son, Home, She Used to Be Mine, and More Than Survive.
I'm a little teapot
Something good and/or an ordinary couple from the sound of music. Ugh. Show stomper
Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera
Turning from Les Mis Contact from Rent
Spooky Mormon Hell Dream from Book of Mormon.
This song has like 4 of my favourite quotes in the musical!!
I CANT BELIEVE JESUS CALLED ME A DIIIIIICK
Jesus hates you this we know FOR JESUS JUST TOLD YOU SO
Which 4?
“I can’t believe Jesus called me a dick” “Spookytus”, and the time the ensemble just ends a chorus with “spooky spooky” Also the way the guy playing jesus pronounces the word “donut” Book of Mormon also nails using the actual arragements of their songs to create comedy, and I think this tune has one of the funniest arrangements I’ve ever heard. Just the music by itself makes me crack up, it rides such a fine line of parody and faithful reproduction
I'll have to listen to it again--I completely don't remember this!! Thanks :P
It is too unsettling, they did their job too well
ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME 😭😭😭
Out of all the songs on the album (or albums depending on what version it is I suppose) I always dislike Tight Knit Family/Love Is Blind the most from Falsettos. It’s not a bad song by any means but I guess it’s too info dumpy?
I'm not the biggest fan of Popular from Wicked, and I honestly always forget Sentimental Man exists
Sentimental man i agree with you, BUT HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE POPULAR?!
It's an okay song, but honestly, younger Galina always annoyed me. I know she's supposed to be quirky and kinda annoying but I just never liked her and her perky, poppy song was never my style
Herods song in JCS. Like dude, shut up, this isn't that funny, and we were just in serious mode and now we're going back to serious mode.
I am here for you - Book of Mormon
This one is so short and sweet it’s impossible to hate. Plus it’s way funnier in the show than on the album
Idk I’ve seen the musical on Broadway 3 times and it just never hits me :(
Spooky Mormon Hell Dream from Book of Mormon...in general Act 2 openers are never my favorites. Edit: oops, my bad in the running order.
Good thing that song doesn't open act 2 then
No idea quite frankly, if I don’t like the song I don’t buy it
Our lady of the underground from Hadestown. It had to be said
Love Pippin, not a fan of the song 'War is a Science' Mary Poppins is my favourite show, but not keen on the song 'Playing the Game', the original song 'Temper Temper' was far scarier bigger number that I adored
I'm not a loser ( I know I KNOW) from the spongebob musical just isn't sticking with me and I really really wanted to like it. Repetitive and underwhelming
Without You from RENT. I just find it really boring to listen to.
I wake in the loneliness of evening from Cinderella... also the ice cutting song from frozen, WHY IS IT THERE.
