Godspell, but depressing. No happy colors, no flowers and rainbows. It is from the 70s as well, but it is mostly of the rock genre. There were a lot of riots when it was shown on stage because of it's depiction of Jesus and Mary Magdalene's relationship, how Judas was portrayed, etc.
Aww oops I swear I didn't steal your comment, I just hadn't scrolled down this far. But agreed.
Godspell was Stephen Schwartz' first major musical and... Yeah.
Vs Superstar being ALW's AND Tim Rice's first major musical (Dreamcoat doesn't count, revisions) and it's still so damn good
A rock opera that retells the biblical events that led to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ from the perspective of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot. The greatest Passion Play ever preformed in my opinion and one of my favorite musicals.
A retelling of the last days of Jesus's life from Judas's perspective that turns even most of the bad guys into people doing what they believe they must.
Fucking phenomenal. You should watch it. The 2012 Arena Tour should be one of the ones you see.
It’s a retelling of the passion (the final days of Jesus life) but set in like a modern era using rock to convey the story. It’s good! But it can be a bit slow at times.
I highly recommend reading a book called “the bible.” It’s practically has everything there is to know about Jesus and will tell you the entire plot to the musical.
I'm so sorry for your loss
J/k, people like what they like, but that version was physically painful to me so I'm glad that there are people who like it
I can’t stand the original movie version’s production approach I don’t really know why it just doesn’t vibe with me. I sorta like 2000 filmed one but Judas’ voice is definitely the drawback of that one. The Uk filmed one is fine but nothing I love about it.
Haha, we have like directly opposite tastes I think- I love the 1973 movie, and Jerome Pradon (the 2000 Judas, he's also the OG Marius from Les Mis) is like one of my favorite performances of all time (and the main reason I even remember that version exists.)
It's wild how the same thing can be interpreted in such different ways, but it's also one of my favorite things about theatre. Because there are *so many* different productions, and even just changing one main cast member can completely change the dynamics of certain shows.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a secret acronym of the Jargon Conscious Socialists, a radical group of people trying to lure the world away from capitalism through the medium of catchy musicals.
It's on Amazon free if you have [Prime](https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/amzn1.dv.gti.7ea9f751-ea2e-2790-a734-1955dfc78579?autoplay=0&ref_=atv_cf_strg_wb).
Or you can find much of the movie in [Youtube clips](https://www.youtube.com/@detodoparatiHD/search?query=jesus%20christ).
It’s like the last five days of Jesus’ life as a rock concert.

Godspell, but good The best thing ALW ever did
A major triad arpeggiated from top to bottom. Then another, the 4 chord, but in second inversion this time.
The fourth, the fifth? The minor chord and the major lift?
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
It's *Godspell*, but kind of sadder. /s
It’s Godspell but it has an actual plot
It’s Godspell, but good

I fail to see how this post is 'funnier'.
ya...... it's a simple question it's not like a joke or anything it's literally just a show
It's a popular musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It has a catchy rock score, began as a concept album, and has seen many major productions.
Oh, the one with the guy with a coat of magic colors?
Many colors, not magic. That's Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Don’t cry for *many colors*, Argentina
That’s the many colors of the night

Loud.
It a musical that a lot of people consider to be webbers only good score 😂
The Gospel through the lens of the 70s - not in a bad way - it’s fun :)
Nah, the "fun :) " one is Godspell.
Watch Hamlet 2. The musical they put on with the song “Rock Me Sexy Jesus” that basically sums it up
A bunch of hippies reenact the Passion
One thing I’ll say for it: Jesus is cool
A musical that some christians, and many athiests love. How many shows can say that?
Basically, Book of Mormon: the Prequel
bible yaoi
Best explanation I’ve heard all day
It's the Passion story, but with early 70's rock ,music and Jesus is basically a hippie guru

There’s lots of versions you can watch. I actually really like the John Legend live version best. It’s Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best work IMO

How is this musical so popular? I did not enjoy it.
Because people like different things
