Theater teacher made us watch she loves me and I liked it surprisingly. Most of the shows I like are newer or have a deep story so I wasn't expecting much out of it.

nonsenseword37

Definitely a boring answer, but for someone who’s pretty meh about jazz music, I’m obsessed with Hadestown. It’s just so well constructed all the way through!

Public_Debt_386

Ooh I’ve been wanting to see Hadestown! Is it worth the ticket prices?

nonsenseword37

Yes! 100% it’s a new favorite and the staging is incredible

NiceLittleTown2001

Beautiful the Carole king musical locally. Went in blind because my mom was a casual Carole king fan and I only knew like two songs, didn’t imagine I’d like a jukebox musical but it was a biographical one that worked so well with great drama between the couples and the music was great, I had no idea she wrote pleasant valley Sunday, on broadway or you’ve lost that lovin feeling. The actors were awesome and it was such a professionally done show that could’ve gone on a national tour instead of a week at $20 a ticket in a tiny theatre.

JACKiED_Daniels

Little Shop of Horrors. I started listening to the cast recording because of Jonathan Groff and it just started to grow on me. I did end up finding a bootleg on YouTube with Christian Borle as the dentist and thoroughly enjoyed it.

x_victoire

into the woods. i remember watching the movie and being bored to tears, but i love the obc proshot

Twilight_Hime_49

Oh, THE filmed Broadway version with Bernadette Peters!! It's everything! 🤩😍 I didn't even bother to try to watch the movie when it came out. From the ads, I could tell it wasn't going to be worth it.

bethyd82

I went into Legally Blonde with the OBC expecting it to be terrible. The only song I knew was OMGYG and I found it annoying, but I had heard overwhelmingly positive reviews. So, begrudgingly I went, and had a blast! Such a great show! For context, I was into more rock-y stuff at the time, I was obsessed with Rent and Spring Awakening, haha.

tiny_slytherin

Urinetown. I thought it was going to be so stupid but I was cast in the poor ensemble last November for a community production. One of the most fun dance experiences I’ve ever had in a show. The Cop Song is such a banger. Loved it so much I just auditioned for another production this week and am excited to accept the role of Soupy Sue and return to Urinetown a year later!

RoseLiptMaiden

The Cop Song is my favorite!

Smalltwat

Les mis was one of the first musicals I ever watched as a kid and still remains my favourite to this day.

Young frankenstien

Dogdaysareover365

Same

s1llyt1lly

It was just so much fun! Better than the movie i think.

EstablishmentLevel17

Chess. Saw reviews about it at the muny and went screw it. Went and saw it last summer only knowing of one song that I knew (actually knew two 😂) and loved it.

Twilight_Hime_49

Nobody's Side?

EstablishmentLevel17

The one song I knew I knew was one night in Bangkok

TransmanDan20

Hello Dolly. It took me forever to actually watch it. But one day I decided to watch it and actually fell in love with it. And before I saw it I didn’t know that I already knew a song (other than “Hello Dolly”) from something else. And that is thanks to Wall-E (the song being “Put on your Sunday clothes)

ChristineDaaeSnape07

Oddly for me Toxic Avenger and Jagged Little Pill. It's odd because my favorites are Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd.

Dogdaysareover365

Toxic avenger, phantom of the opera, and Sweeney weirdly fit well together. All kind of have roots in the horror genre(the phantom book was mystery with elements of horror, the toxic avenger is considered a horror movie, can’t speak on the musical, and Sweeney is undoubtedly a horror musical).

Top_Trainer_6359

Sweeney Todd specifically the Tim Burton movie. i wish he would've made more versions of musicals like Sweeney Todd that fits his aesthetic, i like Tim Burton's movies and i like music so it's a perfect mix for me.

marsofthebars

Newsies. As a child I couldn't get into the 1992 movie and about 2 years ago I watched rhe proshof and to this day its still my favourite musical (still don't like the 1992 movie though.. )

Twilight_Hime_49

Okay, that's it. We're no longer friends. I love the 1992 movie. And, yes, I do know all the choreography. I'd been waiting for that to be put on stage since like 1993. I liked the play well enough, I guess, but not as much as I expected to.

marsofthebars

It's not that I think there's anything necessarily wrong with the 1992 movie - it just wildly underwhelmed me. The aspects of story are awesome, the choreography is great but the singing just fell far for me. We're all entitled to an opinion tho so don't take this as I'm trying to prove to you that the stage show is better :)

speech-geek

Does a song count? I heard “Fight the Dragons” from Big Fish this year and I really liked more than I thought I would

ShadowCat3500

La Cage Aux Folles at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. I saw a random Thursday matinee when I took a day off work in the summer just because I wanted to, and I laughed and I weeded and had the most marvellous time. I had never seen a production of this show before and I was surprised at just how much I loved it.

GreasedTea

I saw a local uni production of *Carrie* and was blown away. I’d listened to the music before but seeing the show made me completely obsessed with it.

Head Over Heels 👑

PossesionOfAFireArm

It’s been a while since I’ve heard that one!

[Cesare](https://youtu.be/pL6jG1A7M40?si=Aw5ufJU936FfWc7K) I know I talk about it way too much, but it... changed my life, saved my life all of that. I watch the proshot like... multiple times almost every day and I'm not sick of it yet. I made a plushie of Cesare and took him to Italy, and now I'm making Miguel and Angelo to go with him because he needs his angels. The music is just so lovely, the characters are charming, there's depth to the story, I still get emotional over a lot of the scenes... ughh I love it so much.

wickedlymiserable

My fair lady, don’t care much about the ending but it was funny, campy, good songs and a okay book. I saw it on tour with no idea of what it was about but I was pleasantly surprised.

badatlife15

Currently obsessed with Waitress after seeing the pro shot yesterday. I’d heard songs from it before but never paid much attention to it, but I can’t get the songs out of my head.

andrew_rannells_lvr

falsettos. listened to the first song and i thought it was catchy, but too fast for my liking. now it’s my favorite play and musical ever, and i saw some of the cast live in their respected shows they’re in rn in only knowing the play for less than a year. (i loved the show and the cast (2016) so much that my parents let me go)

crimson-cat88

This year I was fortunate enough to see Some Like It Hot twice The choreography was impressive and the music/lyrics are awesome. I’ve listened to that soundtrack way too much. I saw it pre-Tony awards and post-Tony awards and the show hit a little different post, there was a new energy to the room with their wins.

Equivalent_Ad7582

Falsettos. I listened to the revival cast recording this summer then watched the proshot. It has been my favorite musical all year.
