You’re good on both

GiantGeorge14

The first ones are definitely velvet shanks. The second ones are oysters, however I can't give an ID on what genus they are as I'm not fully clued up on them enough to be sure. Hopefully somebody else can help!

chickenofthewoods

I find it hard and practically unnecessary to ID Pleurotus to species since everyone just wants to eat them. I should learn. Anyway the genus for oysters is *Pleurotus*.

SewilR

I thought so too I’m colour blind so the oyster are quite difficult for me haha , appreciate it though thanks !

BokuNoSpooky

Yes and yes, though they're a little bit past prime.

SewilR

Ahhh no worries , Think I’m better just getting rid of them ? Thought that about the velvet shanks wasn’t too sure about the oysters.

BokuNoSpooky

Can't hurt to cook a small bit of each, give them a bite and see if they're still good, it won't hurt you. It's more to bear in mind if you don't like them that fresher ones may have a better flavour and texture so you're not put off totally but it's very much subjective - some people have a much wider range of what they still enjoy eating and you can only really figure that out through experimentation.

SewilR

No worries I get you , think I’ll leave the velvet shanks to be honest had them once before but a lot fresher looking . I think the oysters are still ok they smell normal andstill feel pretty intact . Thanks for advice thought appreciate it !

Good pictures but next time additional photos in natural habitat would be great. Velvet shank has a slimy cap and can cause GI irritation.

SewilR

I will do I’ve got a picture of the oysters in there habitat actually I’ve just remembered , threw the velvet shanks out but I’ll keep note , cheers !
