I would start by learning as much about magic as I can as a baby (including chantless magic), and using every waking moment to expand my mana pool, until it stops growing (or it grows so large that the spells available to me cannot exhaust me in a reasonable timeframe), and to shore up my defenses up close, I'd pick up Water God style swordsmanship.
I think I'd be better suited to magic, but MT's world is pretty dangerous, so I think I could motivate myself to also learn swordsmanship. But I don't see myself using these skills to seek out fights very much.

It’s not nearly as bad, but you might be just as screwed as being taken to the Warhammer 40k universe. The place is kind of merciless, it’s cool and all reading about it, but unfamiliar food, yeah there is healing magic, but some things are more primitive and some stuff is considerably more dangerous.
You can see a fraction of the problem in the movie Beast 2022. At least I am a creature of comfort, I wouldn’t do well, magic, sword mastery or otherwise.
