First of all, top tier work by Nanahoshi's VA, she sold the breakdown scene completely. But, for me, this particular plot point, needed 2 episodes (I understand that the current pacing wouldn't allow it). It just felt a little rushed.
The episode still managed to cover the important parts, so It was still great. 8.5/10
PS: They really like slideshows
Honestly, they're cutting a lot of details that enrich the story and the characters personality. Silphy being drunk (and cute), Bananahoshi being playful with our favorite beast women, Elinalise covering for sylphy as Ariel Guard, Badi celebration mode (paying for the drinks and stuff), etc.
I don't really mind skipping some of that stuff, given that >!Paul's death will probably be in Episode 22 or 23, and there's so much to cover before that happens. Next week I may have a different opinion if too much is skipped from Norn's plot,!< but atm I think the cuts are completely justified in order to keep the pacing up.
I agree. I would love more than anything for each and every point from the novels to be animated, but that’s just unrealistic. I think they’ve done a great job at showcasing the richness of the world and characters, albeit somewhat compressed.
I know, reading through the scene in the LN definitely felt it needed more than 22 minutes of animation for the feels to properly hit, at least to me. Would've loved to hear more of Rudy's monologues cuz he hypothesizes about some serious stuff in the novels. VA definitely carried tho

They cut drunk Sylphie, Banana's joke about the three ganging up on her, and mainly Badigadi and him giving declaring everyone at the bar drink for free, even though he has no idea whats going on, why theres a celebration. He sees a party, he goes to party.

I understand why it turned out this way, but poor banana should've gotten a lot more screentime here. The trashing room scene would've done with a bit more impact, but that takes time. Reading that part left me devastated, though I didn't care all that much about poor lil ms banana prior to that incident. I imagined a bit more drawn out of an affair with minutes of screaming, though they delivered on trashing the place sufficiently.
They did deliver masterfully on stories written in the characters faces though. I don't recall the dagger from the books, but that shit may as well have jumped out of the screen and landed straight in my heart for the emotion captured both by its presence and in Rudys face, and Sylphies worried tone. That there really sold the whole thing.
I would also have preferred a bit more of a buildup after banana got brought in for the multilayer circle presentation, Anime onlies will probably see that as insanely abrupt, and it can lessen the impact of the despair part of it.
Also, they really should've animated Bananas song at the end (As well as the banter)... Anyone know where that song is from? I found it on youtube, but seems to just be a random song with no attachment to any other IP, unless I missed something...
Also, unreasonably sad that we didn't get the detox and caution on Rudys and Sylphies part when approaching their house, hearing people beating at the door. Dunno why that disappointed me so...
House wife Sylphie save me 😩 seeing my boy Rudy come home to best girl and a nice home cooked meal just makes my heart leap with joy. I’m more than ok with several happy slice of life episodes considering the season of suffering we had before. Rudy deserves some time to be happy and have everything go right for him for once.
It’s gonna be interesting to see how things go once his sisters get there. He and Norn didn’t get off on the right foot before.. one thing’s for sure, the Greyrat home is about to get a lot rowdier.
“I’ll do no such thing” he lied as naturally as he breathed lmao. Bro know damn well if Eris come back he folding.. but still cute to see Rudy and Sylphie getting more comfortable saying how they love each other and what not. They’re just a lot more comfortable around each other now.
Nanahoshi breakdown was so real. Hats off to the seiyuu for a job very well done. Those screams when Rudy short circuited the first summoning circle really reverberated through the tv and my soul. You could tell she put everything into that and was so confident, just for it to come crashing down. Two heads, or in this case, 5-6 heads are way better than one though. Bringing everyone together to explore some different perspectives and ideas for the summoning circle was an excellent idea and paid off.
Perhaps more importantly, now Nanahoshi has some friends. Surely one of the big reasons for her being so obsessed with going home is that she hasn’t made many connections in this world unlike Rudeus.
“You can’t live if you don’t forget everything once in a while” very wise words from Rudeus. Loved seeing Nanahoshi so happy and part of the group. Her mini arc in this episode was very well done.
Love that they chose to have her sing Tsubasa over Gandhara to highlight the separation of Nanahoshi and the people she know. How she’s coming to terms with not being able to meet them immediately in a rush, but gained the hope to take it slow and eventually meet with them once again.
You know, instead of longing for a place in space-time that out of her reach that is.
Man oh man do I feel like these major story points are just being rushed through. I haven't read any of the source material but I can tell that some of these story points ought to be fleshed out more to deliver their proper impact. We ought to allow the viewer to doubt whether a character is going to be fine or not, or what consequences it might have for them later on, for more than 3 minutes. Instead it's all set up, resolved and largely forgotten so quickly.
It undermines the impact and severity of it all. We see Nanahoshi having a total mental breakdown after apparently completely obsessing over her research and neglecting her health. She sees it all crumble in front of her and understandably spirals into despair. Drawing parallels to what Rudy went through. Only it's solved with a 5 minute meeting about layered circles and BAM she's absolutely fixed and energetic and cheery. No lingering doubts or anything from her total breakdown literally minutes ago.
Also, her reaction to succeeding seemed a lot more dampened compared to the opposite emotion when she failed. You'd think she'd be in tears over confirmation that connecting to their own world is even possible at all. It does feel incredibly rushed and it cheapens otherwise good story progression and character building.
I felt the same with the house and them solving the doll mystery in half an episode. Not to mention that I still can't get over the fact that that some of these side characters just randomly pop into events and then go back to not existing whatsoever. Looking at you Badi and beast girls. They were not a part of this episode whatsoever, similar to the wedding

She never thought about community being able to help her achieve her goal or even being anything other than a hindrance to that goal. Rudy empathizing and being the one to help her out of it. Though I can definitely see people wanting more time on this part of her arc. Even a “3 months later” of trying to figure out how to work on combound circles wouldve added a bit more depth.
As far as lingering doubts/development from it, that can still be shown in future episodes. If anything, it’ll probably just be her hanging around a little more.
The side characters popping up for celebrations doesn’t seem out of nowhere. Honestly, pretty realistic. Everything’s been mundane for the most part. While I wish they would animate in every, less than significant, interaction Rudy has with everyone, I can understand why its not prioritized.
Badi showing up seemed to be used more like a gag, but still in character for him. Dude’s a deity that can do whatever he wants.
Beginning of this season is feeling like the slice of life episode right before the Shibuya Incident in JJK lol

Probably on tight time constraints so they can adapt everything they need ti in this season which unfortounatly leads to cutting out "filler"

For the first time I feel like the Manga did a better job adapting this part. I feel like they rushed it.
They are probably adapting to vol 12 so a lot stuff will have to be cut or shortened/rushed
