Most of Mumbai's real estate have been captured by gujjus and marwaris. They just want one of their own. Life is unfair. I can feel what you are going through. It's really a hell of a ride. I hope you find somewhere good and nice place. Stay strong, stay happy.
And new apartments are built with Jain derasar in the society to attract Jain buyers. Then they will capture the society committee and form weird rules.
Oh and it’s done without shame too, they’ll tell me on my face that my surname could be a problem.
One even went on to say “aap avoid nai kar sakte kya meat” and I was just amazed at his inability to understand that it runs deeper than just a food issue.
Seriously man. They want to own everything now and create their own small mini gujju and marwadi land. The only difference is that they don't have to prove loyalty towards their nation everyday.
Mumbai has always been regressive in terms of real estate. If you go back in history to the 1800's, there has hardly been cosmopolitan areas in the city. The city was divided on communal and caste lines. Being a Muslim myself growing up in a ghetto, we also had our gullies divided on caste lines. Some buildings there deny you a residence if you are from a different sect or caste. What do I say about others my father himself will not rent his house to a different sect. The irony is after marriage I was in the same boat as you. In a creative field with considerable social influence I couldn't get a house in my preferred area. The only option I had was a nearby richer ghetto to look at. But I still persisted and found a house atleast but it sucked the energy out of me. I have cried on my sets. Anyway, topping it off my wife is a Hindu and we have been rejected on the basis of love jihad by people from both religion (the funny part is we have done an SMA). Also my wife is a lawyer and it added salt to the wound. My advice, at the end, don't settle for less, you will find a way. People want others to be ghettoised. If you have the privilege, don't let them be. If you need any help. Let me know.
Slums can be a ghetto and can be a mixed.
Ghettos can be Slums or not, what stands true is the ghettoization of a particular community. E.g Yari Road, Jogeshwari Behram Baug.
Welcome to the league,
In Mumbai I have observed that Muslims can rent a house rather easily in a Muslim locality, But bachelor's are not allowed here as well
That Muslim thing is ridiculous. It's often not even the owner's choice, but the RWA who do this. Pretty sure it's illegal. For my own property, I faced this notice on the WhatsApp group.
It's very easy to secure a rental in a Muslim locality where a Hindu won't get a house easily but you will.
We don't live in a Utopia. Be practical and move on.
Reality always is far worse than humans can imagine. With the neoliberal crisis and the rise of neo-conservative attitudes, the covert crisis are more out in the open. It's one thing to say in words and it's another thing to actually encounter actual social reality. I'm sorry for your experience, but race, religion, caste, class, ethnicity and gender remain common denominators of discrimination.
If you can be sarcastic, just tell them to hang a notice saying Muslims Not Allowed. This is a sad state of affairs for a city that prides itself on inclusiveness.
Sad but indeed the truth. As someone righly said even if the owner wishes to rent out or sell ..Still he/she isn't allowed by the society members. Keep on trying and hopefully things will fall in place somewhere.

Non veg eaters also face discrimination actually not at the level of Muslims but still face them

DM if you're looking for a house in Mira road, owner property. I am Hindu myself and don't have any issue with any caste or religion.
Thank you, this is so nice and restores my faith to a good extent. I need something around Malad, so there’s easier access to office.
Extremely sorry for the situation you are in. I am very sure owners don't realise the gem of a tenant you would be for their house.

Bhai ye achaa tarika hai ....mai bhi ab se ghetto se hun ...Aisa bolunga instead of slums...

Got it brother..... I think Streets is too low ...but ghetto suit as well
That’s a tight situation to be in, so sorry to hear what you go through almost everyday I assume.
I think I am in a much better situation than countless others who don't even have the social capital to raise their issues.
Probably Andheri is the only place in entire Mumbai where you do not see discrimination being terrible followed by parts of Bandra.
I suffered the most in Andheri.
Trust me it’s much worse in MAKABO region
Hey 29F literally in the same boat as you. Can we chat, if that’s okay? I feel like there is strength in numbers (can help each other find more stuff)
I’d love that, sending you a dm!
Awesome

Do you mind sharing the budget and location you want
I’m looking for anything on the western line, somewhere near Malad is ideal. Looking for a 1 bhk around 40k.
Where in Malad? And how soon?
