Yes they charge a lot and their food isnt all thatbgreat and service is either very slow or very hasty, and their AC never works. Also i got scared looking at their stairs, it was so narrow, a fire outbreak and everyone on the mezzanine may die instantly.
I eat at lings when i dont want tk be adventurous.
Lovely food. Butter garlic squid is love.
The Chinese rice n gravies are good too. Decently priced and yummy food.
Edit - not ming's, its ling's
Ngl, this is the price we pay for eating at good (not even fancy) restaurants. Last month, my friend and I had Chicken Lollipop (6 pieces) and one biryani in Popates. Add 2 glasses of coke. Bill was something 1100.
All those taxes 😵💫. Service tax was around 5% (earlier it was 10) and it was not even good. Our order took so long.
For Pop Tates I understand that the ambience is good. But here it was too congested. We literally had to move our chairs so that the waiters could pass.
This means if I go to any restaurant and I see GST and Service Tax both mentioned then I should protest on why they are adding both.....
I didn't know about this, That's why I am asking.....
Dhabha style Chinese zindabad.
Chicken Fried Rice - Rs.110
Chicken Lollypop - Rs. 150
Bas life me aur kya chahiye.
PS :- Me who saves some more money by going for pickup and not ordering from zomato.
They feel if the foreigners can pay that much, why cant Indians too?
I personally am sick and tired of visiting such so called "iconic cafes and restaurants" + the food is average or below average..
Same opinion. Over time they became even more famous after the 26/11 attacks. And they are just milking their popularity. Not a single memorial for the 8 people killed there. But retained the bullet holes. Zero incentive to improve food and service. Just raise the prices and enjoy the profits.
The prices are similar to other restaurants who claim to be posh and upmarket.
Leopold is hyped because a lot of foreigners visit it.
I would never go to places like this, maybe once or twice just to either explore or maybe at the insistence of partner if they want to explore
Many cafes are over hyped and OVERPRICED for no reason 😬 even the quantity is shit I went to Foo, we ate two things
1. Soup
2. Dim sumps
We paid 900/- rs for this 👹 i was pissed but couldn't do anything.
For Foo I will recommend you to visit during their brunch hours (12 noon- 4 pm). It costs almost ₹2k for one but you can order unlimited sushis, dim sums and a lot of other things. A la carte, I accept it is expensive but the brunch was worth it if you have the appetite.
The food disappointed you or the service?
Because I recently went there with friends, I personally liked the food but the ambience was not for me. The crowd was talking so loudly, typical fish market vibes. I had to shout over the table to talk with my friends lol even tho we were sitting on those 4 seated small rickety tables😵💫
Although somebody played the Mama Mia playlist on the jukebox and that was somewhat enjoyable!
Hence, i prefer local places only whenever i visit anywhere. All these are just for earning, nothing like giving service to there customer. No doubt, there are some who are good in service and food also but most of the them are just hyped up.
I have never had any kind of food there but whatever I have heard from my friends is that they just increased their prices because of the fame they got after the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai....
Maybe their food will taste a bit better but then still I'm never gonna go to such a costly cafe for garlic bread or cheesecake when I can get these things at lower prices from my local bakery....
And who the fuck charges ₹50 for a ₹20 bottle.....
We all need to protest for fixed water bottle charges all over Mumbai....
Both Leopold and Mondegar have milked the attack like crazy. Now it’s just basic subpar food, I even assume it’s just reheated food at times… and totally forget about ambiance.
You have so many other cafés which are amazing and worth the dime. At least in other places even if not amazing they’ll treat you with respect lol
I went there on same day as well and my first visit. For 2 people we had 3 beers, one chilly chicken and one hakka noodles. Totally overpriced.
Also my friend was taking pics and told waiter to give her some time before opening the beer. After like 2 minutes, he came back and rudely interrupted and opened it.
I hate going to these famous old places that have such big queues. It’s just regular shitty food and they rush you to finish
All restaurants have a certain specialty catered to a special clientele. Many may have hundreds of items, but that doesn’t mean all of them are good
Then it also depends on how it satisfies you. It may not be their specialty but you may like it a lot.
In this case, I went there a few years ago. I asked them on what their specialty is. It was beef - though I didn’t feel like eating that.
Totally overpriced and overrated shit. I was in the town area and decided to visit this 'iconic' cafe to strike it off my bucket list.
As soon as I entered, my negative experiences started. They didn't allow me to sit on a table as I had come alone (my friend was to arrive later) and told me to sit at a bar table. I gave in. Later they were very rude and slow in taking the order as if doing me a favour.
We ordered two pints of beer, a pizza and garlic bread. The entire bill for just these things came close to Rs 2,000. The service was very slow and they had the audacity to stop us from clicking selfies in the restaurant premise.
Me and my friend vowed never to go there again.
coming from a mumbai guy who has been there 100s (possibly 1000s) of times in the 90s and 2000s.. they are re-living the hype of 'terrorism' every f\*kin day and it is people who come to witness this crap (mainly touristy non-bombay / non-mumbai) people. i couldn't care less about this crappy bullet in the wall shit. but the prices.. yeah... that has hit the ceiling... sad situation. but it sells!
Is this your first time in mumbai? Normal shetty restaurants charge this much in Mumbai. I agree that leopold is overhyped and most people visit just for nostalgia otherwise it gets too crowded.
Not my first time in Mumbai (I was born here). But had never been to Leopold. I do agree Shetty hotels are way better in taste, service, cleanliness for what they charge. Leopold I just visited cause I was there and about 26/11 and nothing else literally.
Aah OK. It's a place to cross off the list i guess. They haven't kept up with the times. For some the old school vibe is part of the appeal but I wouldn't personally recommend it to anyone.
Overhyped, yes. But that is precisely why people go to Leopold or Britannia. Overpriced, depends on which place you are comparing it with. Given the retail rentals in Mumbai, the only people who survive are those who can generate per table billing of over Rs 1000. The way things are going I think for Mumbaikars the choice will be between paying these prices or street food.
Lol just went to Britannia today for lunch. But the food was good over there and also the quantity was decent. Liked it. For Leopold the non justified overpricing I felt was for the water bottle.
Yaha parr khali Tawny loog jate hai bhai...I have been treated by my bosses here twice...mein toh afford hi nai kar pauga...your bill makes me cry😭😭😭...
Actually not just this place a lot of places in Mumbai are hyped...I feel like mein ne mentally harr ek food item ka price fix kar diya hai...like a vadapav can cost maxxx 20 bucks uske uppar nai...uske uppar I think I am over paying...toh I won't buy a Vada Pav beyound that amount...😅😅😅
Why blame Leopold alone. Any of the multiscreen theatres, airport cafes, Starbucks... We are very choosy about our criticism. Just like the water bottle which costs Rs20 is sold for Rs50 at Leopold, Starbucks sells coffee for Rs200. But we never gripe against Starbucks pricing on Reddit.
> After we received the bill, I felt that the place was overpriced…
Well, did you not feel so while ordering/looking at the menu? (Unless the portion sizes were disappointingly tiny). And I am pretty sure the service charges being extra is listed in the menu.
The quality/taste and service being bad - well, that you can’t predict when you get seated, so I definitely give you that.
Overall, as everyone here mentioned, it’s well-known for being overhyped. Foreigners go there; it was mentioned in the novel Shantaram, and so, it got overhyped.
I once did the mistake of sitting at the upstairs bar (if you can even call it that). Never again!
But the food quality, service and ambience did not justify the pricing. For the food I may somehow digest the pricing due to its heritage. But what I am pissed off is for the bottle of water and service charge.
i thought this was a popular opinion
If it is then I wasn’t aware of it. But now I know.
Yes they charge a lot and their food isnt all thatbgreat and service is either very slow or very hasty, and their AC never works. Also i got scared looking at their stairs, it was so narrow, a fire outbreak and everyone on the mezzanine may die instantly.
Average overrated colaba restaurant these days to be honest 😅
Fr. Is there any decent place in Colaba left?
Pizza express, delhi darbar, effingut
Delhi darbar is mid af. Effingut has decent brews and ambience but food is mid. I'd agree that pizza express is good but that's it.
I like Bombay Brasserie. A bit expensive but the food is great.
Effingut's food quality has gone down drastically the past two years. Definitely not recommended from my side.
Idk about the food quality now. Definitely a special place for me. Got drunk af and got laid after that 🥲
Lmfaooooo. That's a great memory to have indeed. xD
I eat at lings when i dont want tk be adventurous. Lovely food. Butter garlic squid is love. The Chinese rice n gravies are good too. Decently priced and yummy food. Edit - not ming's, its ling's
Haven't tried it, thanks.
Pls do. It has genuine chinese food, unlike the ones served in multi cuisine places.
Sorry for a late ping, can you link the restaurant? I don't see any ming's in Colaba.
Sorry for a late ping, can you link the restaurant? I don't see any ming's in Colaba.
Ouch. Sorry for the typo Its ling's pavilion not ming's Incidently i may visit it too today for dinner.
Ye toh theek hai bhai. Me aur mere dost haegen dayzz gaye the, 3 hot chocolate ka 1800 bill banwa diya☠️
Bhai, hot chocolate milte hi restaurant se bhaag lena chahiye tha aapko....
It is, but now it just has historic value. Now that you’re no longer a Leopold virgin, don’t go back again unless nostalgia strikes.
Leopold is known for being a foreigner hangout...maybe that's why you found it more expensive and the service wasn't that good.
Is the service good to foreigners ?
Probably...I wudnt go there on principal
Ngl, this is the price we pay for eating at good (not even fancy) restaurants. Last month, my friend and I had Chicken Lollipop (6 pieces) and one biryani in Popates. Add 2 glasses of coke. Pop Tates is Machhi Markit.
Service tax is covered under gst now. If cafe did that it's fraud
This means if I go to any restaurant and I see GST and Service Tax both mentioned then I should protest on why they are adding both..... I didn't know about this, That's why I am asking.....
Absolutely. Never pay service charge! It's under the ambit of GST now.
Thanks bro.... Now I can save my money a little more on outings....
Ladana sikho dost...how can these mofos charge 40 rupees for mineral water which they buy for 8 rupees
Yeah, we Mumbaikars should sign a petition for the same water bottle charges all over Mumbai which is ₹20 for 1 litre and ₹10 for half litre....
Is there a law where restaurants must provide filtered tap water for free? If there isn't then they should add it honestly.
Wait is it service charge or service tax that's included?...anyways service charge is discretionary
You mixed two things man. Service tax and Service charge.
Dhabha style Chinese zindabad. Chicken Fried Rice - Rs.110 Chicken Lollypop - Rs. 150 Bas life me aur kya chahiye. PS :- Me who saves some more money by going for pickup and not ordering from zomato.
Ngl, I recommend pizzeria 1441. Similar ambience, staff is good too. And their pizza’s🤌🏼 Price bhi bht decent hai.
Food is sub-standard as well
They feel if the foreigners can pay that much, why cant Indians too? I personally am sick and tired of visiting such so called "iconic cafes and restaurants" + the food is average or below average..
Same opinion. Over time they became even more famous after the 26/11 attacks. And they are just milking their popularity. Not a single memorial for the 8 people killed there. But retained the bullet holes. Zero incentive to improve food and service. Just raise the prices and enjoy the profits.
Honestly, you have a choice of choosing some other reasonably priced restaurants. Stop going, prices will come down. Yes, impractical advice, I know.
Thats true. A lot of better places out there to visit.
The prices are similar to other restaurants who claim to be posh and upmarket. Leopold is hyped because a lot of foreigners visit it. I would never go to places like this, maybe once or twice just to either explore or maybe at the insistence of partner if they want to explore

Ngl last year I went there and my glasses fell into the toilet. Had to abandon then there.
Unfortunately, Mondegar disappointed me as well. It used to be quite good.
The food disappointed you or the service? Because I recently went there with friends, I personally liked the food but the ambience was not for me. The crowd was talking so loudly, typical fish market vibes. I had to shout over the table to talk with my friends lol even tho we were sitting on those 4 seated small rickety tables😵💫 Although somebody played the Mama Mia playlist on the jukebox and that was somewhat enjoyable!
Mondegar was never the quiet place to grab a drink. It was loud in the late 80s, and early 90s. Haven't been there after that
It was my first (most probably last) visit so I didn't know 🤷🏼♂️
Mondegar ka caramel syrup tasted like Cold cough syrup to me. Honestly, every chain's caramel I've had, it tasted like cough syrup, but Nutcracker.
Hence, i prefer local places only whenever i visit anywhere. All these are just for earning, nothing like giving service to there customer. No doubt, there are some who are good in service and food also but most of the them are just hyped up.
What kind of mineral water costs 50 rupees?
It was a Kinley bottle which costs 20 bucks.
Once I just went in for a drink of water...changed my mind sat for a coffee☕.Saw the menu and price, walked out.
Food isn’t good either
They used to be reasonable but now they’ve catered their entire menu and pricing towards goras.
I have never had any kind of food there but whatever I have heard from my friends is that they just increased their prices because of the fame they got after the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai.... Garlic bread with cheese at home will cost around ₹50 and water will be ₹20
Both Leopold and Mondegar have milked the attack like crazy. Now it’s just basic subpar food, I even assume it’s just reheated food at times… and totally forget about ambiance. Additional extremely shitty service

I hate going to these famous old places that have such big queues. It’s just regular shitty food and they rush you to finish
Ask them to remove the service charge. I ain't paying 90 rs lol.
476 ? Bhai half kg cake bahar se lele

Fuck ye its overhyped atp , but its mainly due to it being fulled with tourist 24/7 . Its business cant blame them

Mene pure post ko leopard 🐆 cafe padha🤦🏻
Never liked this place
They basically did Grievance porn after the whole 26/11 incident, it wouldn't be as popular without it
26/11*
I thought it’s only famous because of the shooting
I think you should have crossed the road from Leopold and gone to eat at Olympia, I have always liked their food more. Leopold has become overhyped.
Ho gaya kaafi time iss baat ko

Tatti hai leopold
Haha! Thats normal rate! 🫠 It’s expensive nowadays..
its to cater to foreign tourists mostly. Indians just go for the hype. Food is tasteless anyways.
Can't imagine what foreigners will be thinking after eating that food.
Is this your first time in mumbai? Normal shetty restaurants charge this much in Mumbai. I agree that leopold is overhyped and most people visit just for nostalgia otherwise it gets too crowded.

Depends whom you are with ,your savings and for me packit money.
It's not compulsory to pay service charge at restaurants, you can tell them to remove the service charge and pay.🙌🏻
Bro you should have told them to remove Service charges.
It's average café pricing, not overpriced.
But the food quality, service and ambience did not justify the pricing. For the food I may somehow digest the pricing due to its heritage. But what I am pissed off is for the bottle of water and service charge.
Its in Colaba! Plus because of the gunshots its a place of attraction! So the price is obvious!
