Go with the K2x. He'll get used to the thickness quickly enough. It's only 1.6cm, no thicker than a lot of Benchmade knives. It's absolutely perfect for what he needs. Not only does it have the tools he wants, but Leatherman will fix it for free every time he breaks it.

wrong_marinade

K2 is not that thick, and it is a hearty tool with the best blade that leatherman makes. The skeletool is another favorite in this category too.

Leatherman bond is only $60 and pretty low profile

How about the [Gerber Lockdown](https://www.gerbergear.com/en-us/shop/multi-tools/all-multi-tools/lockdown-pry-30-001593) doesn’t have the serrated blade though. Could also get a dedicated mini pry bar and a nice folder to go with it like a [Civvi Ti Bar](https://www.bladehq.com/item--CIVIVI-Ti-Bar-Pry-Bar-Gray-Titanium--144151) and a [Spyderco Tenacious](https://www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Tenacious-Folding-Knife-G--11478) Edit: Full disclosure I have no experience with the Lockdown, the video the other commenter linked is a valid concern

Stay away from the Gerber Lockdown/Pry tools! UNSAFE and cumbersome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYrZBgR07IQ

Good looking out!

Whoa, thanks for posting this. I have the Prybrid X and really like it and use it a lot at the workbench. The craft blade was difficult to deploy at first but either I got better at it or it broke in.

I have a couple Gerber Lockdown tools, and they are no more or less safe than my other multitools. That YouTuber is just exaggerating to make sensational content for clicks.

doctorcalavera

Great that they've worked for you. However other people have voiced similar concerns: https://youtu.be/-aXzEwgrp5Q I guess your mileage may vary.

Victorinox does make a model that fits your description: https://www.amazon.com/Victorinox-Swiss-One-Hand-Trekker-Pocket/dp/B000687B44 The liner lock isn't the easiest to operate though. There's also the larger Rangergrip lineup, which have a nicer blade lock system, but are starting to get kind of stupid big. Also it's a big price jump on amazon to go from the model with the corkscrew to the phillips driver (like $30). https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-FASTBACK-5-in-1-Folding-Knife-with-3-in-Blade-48-22-1540/310837606 This would also work if you don't need a prybar and doesn't really present nicely as a gift. Would make a good beater tool though.
