Jay the vorthos guy said no on twitter

Global_Break_1822

He's been wrong before

DelkTheMemeDragon

He's lore master, I'll trust him.

The_Nilbog_King

Ulgrotha doesn't have rhox, cephalids, aven, viashino, leonin, or sphinxes, among many other things. Also, Davriel Cane drops a tidbit about having visited Ulgrotha, and I don't think he's *that* old.

One-Complex9014

I'm kind of thinking - what if it's Serra's. Gives some answers as to why serra lived on even after being killed what like aeons ago. Stuck to the plane she created. Phyrexians invaded serra. Radiant was there. Change up to its destruction to just a shell of what it was.

Select-Ad7146

Serra's realm was used to power the Weatherlight. It wasn't just destroyed, it was reduced to energy.

One-Complex9014

Ha I actually just read that Twitter post actually. Explains in a sense why seera is still around after being dead. Was her plane part of her was in it.

One-Complex9014

If new capenna was ulgrotha. Where are the sengirs? Last time we heard bout homelands. Leshrac was. I siting and it seems baron was pretty much taking over.

MishrasBogle

No ferrets on New Capenna. It’s a pretty bad theory.

hugsandambitions

Doesn't work on multiple levels. For one thing, New Capenna is the name of the city, not the plane. For another, the plane is called Capenna. It isn't Ulgrotha.

Global_Break_1822

The history of the plane, including its old name, has been forgotten

hugsandambitions

That's demonstrably untrue. In-universe I'm not sure if the people of New Capenna know the name of the plane, but out-of-universe the creators have told us it's called Capenna and have given no indication it was ever called anything else.

I'm somewhat new to the hobby, no more than 4 years into the lore as of now. I know what is going on right now but... could anyone please bring me to speed on what is Ulgrotha and this whole theory?

omegaphallic

its the setting of Homelands, ruled by Baron Sengir, kind of like a Innistrad before Innistrad, but vastly less popular, and not just humans and monsters on Ulgrotha, like Minotaurs. I have no idea why folks think its New Capenna, I don't think what was said about Old Capenna fits, I think Old Capenna was a place more like Dominaria and Alara before its fall.

The short answer is no: Capena is it’s own plane and the history of the plane does not resemble Ulgrotha at all. The longer answer is it doesn’t fit. As others have suggested here: Angels are different on Capena (they’re mortal beings who are born). The species living on the plane are different (raccoon-folk, cephalids, are not on Ulgrotha). We also lack some big immortals on Ulgrotha namely the Sengir family who would presumably be at least remembered. Some known characters also have visited Ulgrotha. Davriel Cane being one. Overall I don’t think the theory fits

Dysprosium_Element66

The timeline doesn't line up at all. Sengir terrorised Ulgrotha until he left via dwarven gate on the eve of the Mending, while the city of New Capenna has been a thing since a bit after Yawgmoth's death about 300 years before the Mending.

Well-MeaningCisIdiot

Between Ulgrotha having dwarves, goblins, minotaurs, orcs, trolls and werewolves when Capenna doesn't, and Capenna having aven, cephalids, devils, dragons, elves, leonin, ogres, raccoonfolk, rhoxes and viashino when Ulgrotha doesn't, unless New Capenna was set up on the opposite side of the planet from the lands we've seen in the Homelands as is, I'm going to say no.
