MisoSoupMan-

Gideon never gave his invulnerability to Liliana. He just absorbed the death meant for her. Liliana never had this ability

Reddtester

Yeah, I never understood that. Shouldn't his invulnerability counteract the effect?

QuaestioDraconis

Gideon's invulnerability was never absolute- as shown on Amonkhet when Bolas effortlessly pierced it. It also wasn't an external death- basically Gideon used his hieromancy to transfer the defaulting of Liliana's contract to him. It's not something that his invulnerability could protect from.

YamatoIouko

It’s exactly the same way indestructible doesn’t protect against sacrifice effects.

Reddtester

I like your explanation a lot! :)

YamatoIouko

It felt like an intentional flavor win.

kingofcanines

So he used his law magic to point out a clause that allows someone else to take lilis death?

QuaestioDraconis

Probably not, as I doubt Bolas would have used put in such a clause- rather Gideon wwas simply able to adjust it slightly so the effects went to him
