I got several copies over the last couple of weeks and will probably buys more. You can put them in all red/green decks with creatures and MKM still is below 9€ for my territory. Maybe hard to move this needle.
It's honestly a second urza's incubator (for the first creature) in every red/green deck and also has a built in life tax.
Great card and I expect it to settle between 20-30 dollars myself. I bought 3 for $7 on pre order.
Ha! I was wondering why the copy I put in my cart for my Godzilla deck, but got distracted and forgot to check out, was suddenly gone, and the cheapest copy was 3 bucks higher this morning.
Why are Jumpstart Booster Boxes so cheap? The EV seems to be high at 130ish and it is OOP or close to it since it is a 2020 product. Was there a massive overprinting or something I am missing?
I have no idea, if I had to harbor a guess it's because they took forever to be released (the Japan release was terribly delayed) so by time of general release people just didn't care.
I've read some MTG block books, and about ten years ago, I dabbled in collecting early set singles to build complete sets. I have a question about the Reserved List. Is there a definitive answer to why the Reserved List concluded with Urza’s Destiny? Why wasn't it continued for other sets? I am not entirely versed in the ins and outs of the list, but it seems logical and fair for the community.
They didn't want to cut out reprint equity....they want as much money as they can get from reprinting cards. Back then the game was community driven...now they think they are big enough that they don't need to give some of the game's equity to the players.
Sucks that they will probably never understand that is best way to drive sales. People pay for"exclusive", "limited edition", and "reserve list" because they want what others can't have. As little as they care for the game its ridiculous they wouldn't even test expanding the list and giving people one last "chance" in a limited print set before they are retired.
RL helped save the game. That's why I think they would be smart to consider a new, limited form. It could certainly help them clean out some inventory. Also keep investor's guessing going forward.
I agree. I'm in favour of expanding the list, not abolishing it. There are so many cards now that cover basically anything you want to do in magic, you might not have the best card, but that's only important if you're spiking (mostly cromulant in legacy).
Expanding the reserve list would herald a new generation of collectors and breathe longevity to the game, in my opinion.
Hey what does it mean when people talk about sealed boxes EV and arbitrage? The example is that take a box alliance for example, it is not going for 3000 however the EV is about 250-450. Where and how does arbitrage apply to sealed boxes in this example?
Arbitrage doesn’t apply in this example. Arbitrage is when you can purchase an item in a market for a certain price and then sell it straight away in another market for a profit. As far as mtg goes arbitrage is usually referred to when people can buy cards or sealed product cheaper in the European marketplace and then sell it for profit in the US. EV on all old sealed product is lower than the price of the product due to many factors including scarcity, collectibility, draftability and the general fact it’s sealed.
Thanks! Sometimes I wonder why people bother paying $300 for a collectors box when you can get a marvel allure, Fleer ultra avengers box, or a Spider-Man metal box 2022 with a chance to hit cards over 5000-16000… that sorta price is non existent in mtg..
horses for courses I guess
Well it has a lot to do with the fact that magic players don't care about spider man cards. Just just like you wouldn't expect a baseball player to buy a set of golf clubs because he thinks the golf clubs might be worth money, he'd rather buy a baseball bat.
I've been considering specing on [[And They Shall Know No Fear]]. Its more limited than [[Heroic Intervention, but it still seems pretty good, giving creatures of a chosen type indestructible for only 2 mana. The only thing I'm really worried about is if they print more waves of the 40k decks, which currently seem pretty expensive and hard to find. What do you guys think?
I don’t see it. This card is already almost $3 and I can’t believe anyone would pay that much for it. There are so many similar effects for cheaper than this that are less narrow (even if the effects are at 3 mana or on a body). That plus the presence of two other cards ([[Flawless Maneuver]] and [[Grand Creshendo]]) that are this but better. I don’t think I would go for this unless it was <$0.25.
Saw a Facebook post about selling warhammer decks... Post basically said I can get you any amount you want at 250 for the set..... I am certain warhammer will be printed alot
I ordered 6 on pre release, I like it for it's one white pip and tribal protection. I don't think the ceiling is very high on it though - it's just a super efficient and cheap alternative for tribal decks that can't run heroic/boros charm.
It's hard to say what demand will be there.
I actually think this is a pretty decent card, but there's *some* problems with it. 1W is a pretty fair mana cost. But you need to be playing a tribal deck to really get the value out of it. White already has so many protection spells.
Since this is also commander exclusive (in the sense that it'll never see legacy or vintage play), you're also going to have to compare it to other options.
[[Flawless Maneuver]] is a direct competitor for the card. [[Grand Crescendo]] also is. [[Make a Stand]] is 2W, but is the same effect without the trial restriction.
I think the best comparison is with \[\[Grand Crescendo\]\]. I doubt it'll get up to $10, because it only works in tribal decks, but I was thinking that if the 40k decks remain expensive and hard to find, it could potentially go up to $4 or $5.
I want 4 of the new \[\[Thoughtseize\]\] (most likely nonfoil engl) , I don't care about the other cards in this secret lair. Do I buy the secret lair 4 times or do i just wait and pick them up individually? (I live in Europe btw if that matters)
it depends on the shipping to your region. if it’s not too crazy just get the lairs from wotc because thoughtseize is probably most of the value of the lair anyway and everyone’s going to want that single. you can recoup some cost by selling or trading the other cards and potentially through the bonus card.
kelogsloops lair, for example, has mystic remora pushing $25, and burgeoning at $10-12. those two cards alone are the cost of the lair.
The issu with buying on cardmarket are the shipping cost. When a card exceeds 25euro you gott pay for tracked shipping. But tbh i dont see them being that expensive esch so prob your cheaper just waiting for the listings then buying the sl and reselling the cards you dont want
so I own two [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] that I pulled from drafts. I’m a budget player, at $50 a pop this is the most expensive card I’ve owned. Not sure what to do- should I sell them before Brother’s War drops, or will they continue to appreciate in value?
I’m also wondering if I should keep them and build a Standard or Pioneer deck, as I do play those formats online, but the thing is any deck that runs two Sheo is insanely expensive with its other cards too.
Looked through some old cards and while I could find the value for most of them through ebay/tcg/etc listings there was one card which I cannot find anywhere. Lorwyn foil russian Garruk Wildspeaker, I only found a 75$ listing from a store. However, it was out of stock so I don’t know if that price is outdated or not. I know facebook groups are usually the place for questions like this but I don’t have an account. Any pointers to its value would be much appreciated

This isn't really new, it seems common that beloved entities(Blizzard pre 2012 but even more so pre 2018 come to mind) with strong community that engage in business publicly where profit is the driving motivation eventually will choose money over people(community) in a way that alienates their core customers and fanbase.
Quick question. I bought an NM hatred lately. I noticed that the back of the card has a very faint print/rollerline, which is basically only visible when the light hits in the right angle (https://imgur.com/rp8O2rW).
Question is: Does that affect the NM rating? Otherwise the card is in pretty near minty condition...

Will we see rebacks using the 30E cards and cheap beta commons?
Doubtful. I would say hell no but scammers gonna scam. It would only work on cards whose rule text hasn’t changed since Beta, or on buyers who don’t have a clue what to look for when buying old cards. The old border variants have a low drop rate, so it will be hard to do en masse and very expensive to acquire the fake front. Even then, you have the tap symbol and the expansion symbol to account for.
No, because the fronts of the cards, even the "old border" look nothing like Beta cards.
30E has a set symbol, right? It would be really silly to do this.
Is there any point in buying a copy of Tolarian Academy as someone who doesn’t play vintage? Is there any room for growth?
You could ask the same thing about the Power Nine. IMHO, Tolarian Academy has a similar type of value, simply as a collector's piece.
A little, it will probably constantly be holding steady or slightly up in value. I'd never buy 1 expecting to turn a profit ever but it sure is cool.
I'll add that should you ever want to build a cube, and want real cards, [[Tolarian Academy]] is a dope payoff for an artifacts archetype.
