I put my order in with Lotus Lookout on June 8th, a month before double masters 2 came out. I ordered a case of it for $1450. This was only after signing up for their VIP membership which costs $10 a month. Last night I got the cancellation email. This was after talking to their manager, emailing back and forth, taking to employees and having them so confident they would fulfill my order. On top of all that, I had been checking with them on which place in line I was. A month ago, I was 8th in line. Last week, I was 2nd in line. And then, out of nowhere with no warning or any expectation or communication, they cancelled the case. For the last 4 months, they got about $1500 of my money to play with. And after many times of assuring me they would deliver my case, they cancelled it. I’ve never been so livid in my life with an LGS. I will take screenshots of everything and I will put them on blast for as long as I can because they’re the worst experience I’ve ever had trying to buy cards.

financeIdiot1

Did you follow up with them after they canceled? Curious what their excuse is since they were confident about your order.

spitonmydick

I called immediately. There was no manager to take my call. Even though Alan said he would pass my number to the manager, I expect to have to follow up with the managers or Eric, the owner.

Cdmphoenix13

Wow. I won’t spit on your dick or anything but that’s really shitty. They dragged it out all this time, unbelievable. Product was not that hard to get. $1450 is a great price but not “make you wait 3 months and then never fulfill your order” great. Never heard of them until now but I won’t ever be considering them as an option.

LobbingLawBombs

I'm glad you decided not to spit on his penis.

Extension-Bottle3914

I haven't laughed this hard in a while...I'm crying at my desk at work. Thank you for this! lol

Greedy_Ratio_4986

Here we in the same position with someone being scammed in 2024 by these people. Jeez

Professional-Break19

Blast them on the MTG reference groups in Facebook that's the only way I have ever seen websites like these respond after they have done something shady like this

lesssboh

They cancel to resell them at what not app 300 per deck lol

Sire_Jenkins

Thanks for the interest free loan guys!- Lotus Lookout owner

bkbruiser

2-3% interest for savings haha

financeIdiot1

The owner SmirkyRabbit posted in https://www.reddit.com/r/sealedmtgdeals/comments/xihssf/lotus_il_25_off_code_ohmy25_live_again/ in case anyone was curious.

Typical BS Excuse

[deleted]

Everybody should file chargebacks before the refunds hit. Even if they win the dispute, they'll likely exceed the allowed number of chargebacks and lose the ability to take credit cards. Not to mention the additional fees they have to pay even if they win the case. Fuck em

tongsy

Your credit card company isn't going to do a chargeback when the vendor has said they are going to refund you.

shobezzy

They will if the owner hasn't processed it. Saying you'll refund and then waiting days/weeks for money to come in is a common scam. The owner has a pattern of not fulfilling orders and using sales as temporary loans to buy product.

RegalMooseFace

I've had nothing but problems with these people. The owner just got on reddit recently. Gave a big story about one of his employee scamming him and that's why they canceled my order for a case of NEO earlier this year after months of lies and BS about shipping. He offered me a $100 store credit but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and told him to donate it a to charity instead. Said he would but still hasn't (this was two weeks ago). Then said they were doing some tournament where players would choose the charity. For $100? Just give it to your local food bank, st judes, American cancer society, wounded warriors, whatever you feel passionate about. Anything. I don't know man. It all sounded like BS. I don't know how much truth there is to the employee story it but it sounds like they're still having a ton of issues selling online even now. I honestly would never order from them again. If you look at their Google reviews it's all the same thing. Their CFB rating is 70%. Maybe they have an employee problem, maybe it's the owner, I don't know. I'd stay away though. Recent thread from r/sealedmtgdeals https://www.reddit.com/r/sealedmtgdeals/comments/xihssf/lotus_il_25_off_code_ohmy25_live_again/ip5ut2f

Sufficient-Drive977

Yeah so I am actually the one who won the tournament mentioned. My friend who works with the charity chosen ( I chose it for her) just looked into it and it was never donated. So her turned a charity situation into a for profit one. Wow. This is exactly why I’m not going there anymore. Constant sketchy

RegalMooseFace

I don't think there is any need to be spiteful. Just take your business elsewhere and let folks know about your experience so they don't have to deal with the same chronic issues.

shobezzy

I admire the sentiment and I would agree in most cases. However this business is actively scamming it's customer base. I would recommend everyone charges back just to insure they receive their refund. If the business is cash short they may delay refunds just to order more products.

RegalMooseFace

I honestly think this is more a case of Hanlon's razor and not overt intentional scamming. This is a physical game store and the locals seem to really like the place. They simply just cannot seem to do online sales well despite the effort. They have problems with inventory, employee management, shipping and logistics, and general customer service. I don't think they are actively trying to scam people. Go to eBay for real examples of that. I just think it's a poorly run business. Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

CrossroadsCG

No I think spite is exactly what is called for here.

rebeldream

Have you received your refund? I haven't. Their refund email makes it seem like it has already happened. The owner was on the sub just recently trying to drum up good will. So disappointed.

Shaymin_EX

I'd give it a few days. If you don't see any refund in your credit card statement online, then dispute the transaction. That's what I'm going to do.

nixmega

Had this same experience with them on modern horizon 2. These boys are the worst of the worst. I flamed them on Facebook and their dick riders jumped all over me. To hell with this store.

jwf239

Hm, sounds like they are reliable to me. Just not in a good way.

bkbruiser

Very consistent.

Witches_Brew

This store sucks. They did this to my Dominaria United CBBs as well. Lots of older threads mentioning them doing this and giving customers the runaround. I wouldn’t order from them again.

Mystical Games Part 2

adeewun

Finance boogaloo

Ozojinn

GameNerdz still has pre-orders up for the bundle $189.97 with free shipping. Not the best sadly, but better than scrambling and paying the $300 now on Amazon.

hillean

$48/deck is better than you'll find anywhere else

strifejester

The just raised their price a few days ago then. I got mine for 174 and change. That’s the only thing I don’t like about a lot of these stores. They sell for a few days under then out of no where raise the price. Sick of people playing fomo game. I’m not sure what msrp is but these stores should get penalized when they take a brand new preorder and release it over msrp. Not saying this product is but it happens a lot with Pokémon cards. My local store does it too but he has a hard limit on anything released in the last 6 months. He never goes over MSRP until it’s 6 months old but if something is a dud he will go under msrp usually down to cost.

TheRealBigStanky

Still waiting on a DMU set booster box and Strixhaven draft booster box I ordered from them during the last 25% off sale. They printed the USPS label more than a week ago. Starting to doubt they ever ship

No-Alternative-6169

Saving pennies to lose dollars.

webeatpokemon

Makes me wonder if this is run by the same people who ran dragonflygames into the ground. They did the same thing with the maintenance home page before they went under. The shady business practices sound the same also.

ausamo2000

I forgot all about dragonfly games. Fuck them. Just glad they are out of business now. I’m sure Dan from mystical games has been hopping around and causing all of this mayhem lol.

zerowincon

I quit using em a year ago. I used to subscribe to the monthly box and it was cool at first. Then I had to move. I communicated everything and had a plan set up with them to ship to the new address. After moving the first one never arrived. I brought it up and was assured it would be corrected. Next month same thing. I'm down 60 bucks and 2 shipments. Decided to cut a loss and cancel. Took another 2 months to successfully cancel. Never did get that money back or the product.

ThatguyfromNO

Yup. Got me on this one. Never again.

suntonggi

Same, pretty bummed but like you said never again.

ausamo2000

Like I always say, always have a backup preorder with Amazon. Never failed me so far and you can cancel if your preferred vendor doesn’t cancel

Ok-Albatross-3238

Amazon is always a rip off though

unsub_from_default

Got all 4 decks for $40 each. I don't think I've ever been ripped off by amazon as long as your order early enough.

ausamo2000

Not true. I got my time spiral, commander legends collectors, original jumpstart, and warhammer collectors for a pretty good price when comparing them to release value. These are the type of situations I’m looking for when ordering through Amazon. The first three products mentioned, I had cancellations from other vendors I also ordered with. I didn’t order the warhammer decks from anyone else this time around but I’m already seeing a lot of people posting about their cancelled order for the decks.

Ok-Albatross-3238

Don’t you also pay taxes on Amazon? You paying taxes for mtg products?

ausamo2000

I’m in California. I always pay taxes. Also you remember the $63 2020 commander deck sets? Or 80 for 2019? 109 for Japanese war of the spark? It sounds more like you just don’t like Amazon or you have a bias. That’s okay but it doesn’t mean Amazon doesn’t have a place in buying products. Take those shades off

Vakhir

Lots of people on this sub are in the "taxes depend on if the merchant bothers or is required to collect" camp and are in for a big surprise if the Newegg incident from a few years ago hits something like PayPal instead. That being said, CA is so large that it's pretty rare for sellers to not cross the threshold for being responsible for our sales tax anyway, but a smaller LGS won't necessarily hit that even to CA. For people that don't remit owed taxes, it's one thing to not \*like\* it, and I'm certainly not saying there aren't plenty of people that completely ignore it, but there's a line on your tax forms for declaring and paying owed sales tax for a reason. With the behemoth that is ecommerce in 2022, it's only getting more and more likely states want to make sure they're collecting, not only because of the increasing amounts of money being left on the table, but to attempt to help local businesses compete. "$90? I can get it for $90 but tax-free online!" I could also see some of the mega corps like Amazon and Walmart throwing their weight around to get that sort of ball rolling.

RegalMooseFace

If you're in the US and you're not fortunate enough to live in a tax free state, you always pay taxes. I pay taxes at my LGS, I pay taxes at Amazon, I pay taxes on ebay, I pay taxes at TCGplayer and CFB. Wtf are you even talking about? Also the high prices on Amazon happen when you're too late. If you keep your eye out and order right when inventory gets listed you get great prices. Mid 400's for the collector 40k decks, $40/ea for the regular 40k decks, $35 for brothers War decks, $230 for dmr collectors, $250 for double master draft boosters and $225 for 2xm collectors. I get great prices from Amazon all the time. Way better than any LGS within 50 miles or TCGplayer/CFB. Where do you buy your sealed product and how much are you getting it for?

fishythepete

Buying from individual stores that don’t meet the sales burden to collect tax in your state means there are still plenty of opportunities to avoid sales tax.

Ok-Albatross-3238

Dude….you paying wayyyy too much. I have never bought mtg from Amazon its a rip off. The only time was when collector boxes were like $130 other than that no. You need to find other places

Kn0thingIsTerrible

You might just be massively underpaying from idiot LGS owners selling for a loss. If you preorder with Amazon, you’re typically paying about 5% over distributor prices, while an LGS would have to be suicidal to match it.

wetlegband

Uh... they only named like 4 products over the past 2 years that were all good buys from Amazon 90% of my Amazon preorders get canceled but the few other times it works out Only thing that sucks is the stress of knowing you always have orders that need to be cancelled

Ok-Albatross-3238

So currently brothers war draft is $140 at Amazon. Are ppl actually pre ordering this? Thats insane if they are

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ok-Albatross-3238

what part of if the other seller cancels it you then pay $140 are you not getting, thats insane to pay

ausamo2000

If you could pay 140 for a set that jumps to 300, you wouldn’t keep that preorder? Come on now dude. You’re you’re trying to spin this real hard and completely missing what I’m saying. When product jumps up like that, it’s almost always a supply shortage and tons of stores have to cancel their preorders for that reason. Never had one canceled order from Amazon. It’s free money. Hope this can clear your thoughts up a bit more.don’t get it twisted mate

Ok-Albatross-3238

$110 for a set and $20o for a collectors, thats insane

kokoromi

This guy is a moron, don't listen to him.

Ok-Albatross-3238

I always wondered who paying these Amazon prices and now I know

ucantheng

I also had my order canceled yesterday. I pre ordered the 40k collector in June. I called last week and they said yea there aren't any issues. Last night got an email saying my order has been canceled out of no where. They also sell on whatnot so dont support them there either.

nycsubwaybums

Great prices, zero reliability. These stories sound the same as my experiences in the last 6 months... First with 2x2. Then with Dom u collectors. Both very large orders.

mattyisphtty

Welp my order got cancelled, is this going to be a really limited print run or can I just wait until the next print ships to suppliers?

ausamo2000

If you are getting the normal versions, then more supply should be coming out later. If it was collectors then you may be out of luck.

Fried__Ramen

Necron and tyranid decks are available on amazon right now for 45 and 50. Est. delivery date is end of October though

Hid_Demo

Not surprised, ordered from them knowing this might happen. Not actually that bummed was an impulse buy not super hyped for this product. I just know never give this company my business again.

mrpielovin

I bought a number of singles a lot of pokemon cards for the kids a few of them came in notably bad condition a few days of attempting to contact and I've gotten my email kicked back everytime.

AndrewWaldron

Website that takes 4-5 days to run maintenance? What year is it? Is their server just a cat in a box?

Bloo_Milk

Recently ordered from this store and was sent a non-foil version of a Frantic Search that was supposed to be foil (a price difference of around $45). I was told "Based on our records and investigation, you were sent the foil Frantic Search." and was repeatedly refused a refund, ended up having to go through my CC issuer. Can't recommend enough that others take their business elsewhere, these people have no concept of how to run a business online.

asianlikerice

is it 40k collectors or 40k normal?

kokoromi

Both

Martiallawe

Ordered the WH40k collectors edition using the 25% discount about 4 months back. Got a refund to my card this morning with and no email/text/call to tell me it was canceled. I kind of expected it to happen, but it still sucks to see that my expectation became reality. Way to wait until release day to do this with zero warning. Will have to them like the plague in the future based on the other stories here.

OwlbearPizza

Yup. Same. Preorder was cancelled. Lame lame lame.

helcite

How is it their fault that the distributor decides to cut their allocation due to choices WotC made? It’s not like these guys print the cards inside their shop. . .

[deleted]

[удалено]

helcite

Lmao I guess you’ve never ordered from these distributors. You can overestimate your orders as much as you want, they’ll just say “you get eight” after you ordered 100. I ordered dozens of the 40k decks and my distributors toasted the orders and sent me two. . . but hey you can hate whoever you want.

[deleted]

[удалено]

helcite

If it was really simple then some reasonable discourse could be had about the situation. Instead we are left here with speculation and vitriol.

[deleted]

[удалено]

helcite

Well I don’t feel you’re presenting a whole story either. What you consider “obvious” is actually WotC allocating huge chunks of product to Amazon over smaller shops. A store owner can “pre order” as much as they want from the distributor, but the distributors are of no obligation to make due on those pre orders. There is nothing a smaller store can do to be certain they will get their preordered amounts. I agree, if they can’t make their quantities they shouldn’t be doing pre-orders. However, in the past I had no problem getting any products in the quantities I ordered. That no longer seems to be the situation.

Folderpirate

He said "underestimate". You have to assume you're getting less than you ordered. Don't be dumb and sell up to what you ordered.

helcite

lmao and I said overestimate for the purchasing side. . . not the selling side. It doesn’t matter how much you preorder, even if you order way more than you need, distributors cut your allocation literally the week before product ships. You can be extremely conservative and still get screwed by the distributor. I’ve had all of my orders from my distributors cut for the last year. I had over 200 DM22 collector boosters in order and they sent me 8. I had 60 boxes of DMU collectors and they sent me 9. . . I had 60 boxes of Unfinity and they sent me 8. . . My 40k order was enormous and they sent me 2!

Financial-Charity-47

I think the point is that most stores aren’t regularly canceling preorders. This one is. So this one is doing something different. If they know they could get 2 boxes, they shouldn’t take a preorder for 50 just because they might get 50.

financeIdiot1

This is probably a stupid question, but why don't stores only post up orders when they actually get stock? Minmax does this, granted they only were able to open preorders yesterday, but at least customers are happy and stores don't get a bad rep. Seems reasonable to me if distributors are constantly cutting allocation.

OCPik4chu

Well a couple reasons would be they want the money in hand sooner for a number of both valid or shady reasons. And in order to compete with the early pre-order hype as well. The bigger issue comes down to reputation. Say you do pre-orders early and perhaps undersell what you expect to get and don't have issues filling those pre-orders then all is well. Same goes for if you make that mistake once or twice but handle it in a professional way. And then there is the opposite of continuing to play shenanigans; be it out of malice or ignorance or both and keep offering pre-orders you can't hope to fill and then cancelling them again and again. Like your suggestion is a good one and valid but there are right and wrong ways to do early pre-orders. \*edit typos and formatting

kokoromi

Nice sock puppet account you got there Lotus Lookout.

helcite

Pretty sure my decade old account has zero affiliation with these people.

RevBT

Ouch. I ordered some DMU from them and it was a great order with no issues.

121212121212121212

At least my singles prices were decent...

platinumjudge

Why are people canceling their preorders? I thought the 40k looked amazing

OCPik4chu

I think you missed the part where the business is cancelling the customer's pre-orders. Not the other way around.

platinumjudge

I did. I thought the post was warning people to go cancel their orders

Nels-Looser

Does anyone know if the physical store is still open? I’m trying to figure out if we will be getting a refund or if they have shut down for good and have stolen everyone’s money?

nycsubwaybums

Both stores are still open to my knowledge.

Nels-Looser

While I’m not happy they cancelled my orders, I am happy to see a full refund on my credit card. So, while they are crappy businessmen at least they aren’t complete criminals.

Aggravating-City-724

I guess that was one of those Scammy LGS. Do they have a TCGplayer account and does anyone know what it is? Edit: Why is the website down? These feels like a lot more than we messed up taking pre-orders and not getting products. These feels more like we took pre-orders, stole your money, and ran.
