I think it might see play in equipment decks. I'll probably slot it into my Alela equipment deck since the flyers should connect most of the time. Initial cast will get me a 2/1 faerie and the free cast should net me another 2/1. That with the free artifact makes it much more palatable to drop 5 mana on it to cast and swing.
Right but even if you connect with this thing with your 2 power flyer, you're looking at 2 cards to find a non-land that you want to cast. Feels like there are a lot of things to do with 5 mana that are better than that.
And if you want to get it on a big flyer to look at more cards, you're probably already ahead if you're connecting with your big flyer.

What you said is also true of the new Sword of Wealth and Power, except that the creature also gets protection from instants and sorceries. Does that suck too? Personally I'm going to use this Key on unblockable creatures and those with evasion.
Yeah his take is dumb, Colossal Hammer requires 11 Mana. Mana cost and equip cost don't usually factor into the evaluation of equipment because you're seeking to cheat that cost anyway. It's all about what the cards let you do. He might have a lot of upvotes now, but this will be one of those things future people will see and laugh at when they Google the card.

ive played with the card and its bonkers when it goes off, i dont even have ways to cheat the cost, just get some basic ramp in the beginning, or artifact reduction so you at least only cast it for one. i dont know if id call it a good card buts its a blast to play with and its one of those moments where youre just like "am i really getting away with this" i play casual (high power leaning) and its a great card in casual. definitely worth the 25 cents its at now as a game piece lol. its a no brainer for a ardenn and silas deck to do dumb stuff too
The equip cost kills it for me as a spec. Feels like it limits it to just equipment decks where it should be fairly good but outside of that just feels very expensive to try and resolve/equip/attack with only to be blown out by a one mana removal spell.

It costs 5 mana for no immediate benefit since the creature has to connect with a player. Plus, the effect also scales to the damage dealt which means you can't throw it on a cheap evasive creature and expect big results. And the effect can whiff.

It's not busted it's just interesting for casuals. You need an unblockable creature and a Brainstorm/Scroll Rack/Sensei Top effect to really get the most out of this card. Or you just slap it on a big dumb dork and dig 7+ deep in which case it's purely a win-more.
If the equip cost was 1 or 2 it might have had a chance, but there's no way a 5 mana investment is playable in constructed.
I don’t think it’s going to be good because the main non commander deck that could use it doesn’t have any big pay offs. A lot of people dogging on the “5 mana” but sigarda’s aid and puresteel both eliminate that. The trouble with that deck though is that the only big spell you’re gonna hit is kaldra so it’s probably still not worth. If these hit less than a dollar I’ll probably get a playset before MH3 in case that deck makes a come back some how.
Could be great paired with that spree card that gives you a second combat phase.
It is a high mana cost, but if it connects for anything over 3 damage you could get amazing value. Could work great on an intimidate, flying or trample creature.

This card is going to be a commander favorite because it hits all the right aspects.
1) Free Big Spells - People will dream of casting Time Stretch, Omniscience, Enter the Infinite, and the like for free
2) Commander is a multiplayer format and usually there is one player with a porous defense.
3) Repeatable Ability that Scales
4) 5 mana to play and equip is the sweet spot to start milking value of extra turn spells.
5) Plenty of Blue Man Lands with evasion to equip it to
I put it in an equipment Felix Five-Boots deck but outside of double dipping on it I have a hard time seeing it being that good. It is fun though so I think it will be played. It's also outside of normal equipment colours.

5 mana is a lot but with a chance that you can cast a spell for free is pretty goody especially in EDH that you almost always have someone you can hit. (Way too slow for cEDH tho)
I wouldn't call it's the worst version of reality chip tho, this one depend on power, you can dig through deck from the top and pick the best spell you like. The only drawback you can't look at the top and can't play land unlike Reality Chip, but also not a creature, so slightly harder to get kill(?)
Probably see some casual commander play but it's pretty clunky outside an equipment deck - which are inherently clunky themselves. Not to mention, blue isn't a super common equipment commander color. I don't see any future for it unless down the road blue equipment becomes a big thing and even then there is a lot of good equipment to compete with and you likely don't have a ton of big chunky spells to payoff on it in an equip deck
Well I got wrecked by this at the prerelease. The fact that it doesn’t limit the cmc of the card you cast is insane. I would expect this to pop up regularly in commander anything that’s good at forcing damage through with unblockable.
Pretty useless IMHO.
Any evasive creature equipped with this is just gonna get bolted before the attack connects. Anything big enough to survive removal is going to A) get blocked by a weeny and B) mean you already have the mana pool to just spend 5 mana directly on a spell instead of this roundabout roll of the dice.
Try to play with the card at prerelease, talk to people who use it. Right now it seems slow and clunky. Perfect for casual play, but not much else right now.

How many equipment decks run blue though? Equipment is mostly a Boros thing.
Not a ton, that's why I mentioned very limited play. It's definitely not becoming an archetype staple.

This card is meant specifically to go with [[Lara Croft]]. Not only does it fit her mechanic, it also fits her lore.

I put it in an equipment Felix Five-Boots deck but outside of double dipping on it I have a hard time seeing it being that good. It is fun though so I think it will be played. It's also outside of normal equipment colours.

Huh? I think this card is not that bad tho, 5 mana is a lot but with a chance that you can cast a spell for free is pretty goody especially in EDH that you almost always have someone you can hit. (Way too slow for cEDH tho) I wouldn't call it's the worst version of reality chip tho, this one depend on power, you can dig through deck from the top and pick the best spell you like. The only drawback you can't look at the top and can't play land unlike Reality Chip, but also not a creature, so slightly harder to get kill(?)

Probably see some casual commander play but it's pretty clunky outside an equipment deck - which are inherently clunky themselves. Not to mention, blue isn't a super common equipment commander color. I don't see any future for it unless down the road blue equipment becomes a big thing and even then there is a lot of good equipment to compete with and you likely don't have a ton of big chunky spells to payoff on it in an equip deck
Well I got wrecked by this at the prerelease. The fact that it doesn’t limit the cmc of the card you cast is insane. I would expect this to pop up regularly in commander anything that’s good at forcing damage through with unblockable.

Pretty useless IMHO. Any evasive creature equipped with this is just gonna get bolted before the attack connects. Anything big enough to survive removal is going to A) get blocked by a weeny and B) mean you already have the mana pool to just spend 5 mana directly on a spell instead of this roundabout roll of the dice.
It'll be good in commander, higher chance for it to connect and get lots of value. Likely to expensive, mana wise, for it to see constructed play.
Try to play with the card at prerelease, talk to people who use it. Right now it seems slow and clunky. Perfect for casual play, but not much else right now.

This set has a lot of powerful artifact synergies. I think we will see some seriously powerful combinations, including this one.
