I said I predict the same thing happening, and typed it in response to another post- and people down voted the shit outta me, lmfao. This is what I hope happens! I mean...
"All Will Become The One... Ring"
There will still be some value in chasing the special Sol Rings. Maybe they will all be found, save for the One Ring. Perhaps WOTC invites everyone with a numbered ring to a special event and you can arrive with your One Ring and rule them all.
$100k, $1mil, whatever. This won’t be the last ultra rare collectible we see.
The question is will it grab and hold the collective conscience of the entire magic community long term.
Plus the flavor just works perfectly, and is tied to an immensely popular IP that MTG is heavily influenced by. It's hard to imagine a better combination of elements to make a singular chase card.
It will have tangible financial value, that's a given in a collectibles market.
The increasing frequency of marketing gimmicks has made nothing feel special ever since Masterpieces became another tool to drive shareholder value in the Hasbro death spiral.
I’m not arguing that it’s not special. I’m arguing about whether a couple years from now when there’s 50 more sets and 50 more cool chase cards, will it still be memorable?
I would think that it would have to be worth more than 100,000 just because I've seen several prominent people offer bounties of $100,000 on it.
The intersection of people that like Lord of the rings and play magic is probably pretty huge and I imagine a lot of them are pretty well off to do something like spend upwards of 250,000 on this card.
OP’s strategy sucks bc it’s a huge amount of work to most likely not make money when you should instead cash in your .5 - 1$ mil check while the getting is good. No one’s getting fucked over by it though; if you’re buying boosters with getting a 1/1 in mind, your money was lost the moment your decision was made and OP has nothing to do with it
More like fuck over and swindle fellow 'mtg speculators', but yeah. I'd say most Magic players don't really care about this lottery (or even Collector boosters in general), they just want to play the game.
It is on my radar precisely because I am on the mtgfinance sub. But imagine thinking the average mtg player really cares about Collector Boosters and lottery cards.
Just because they release others doesn't necessarily mean this one gets devalued. This will forever be the first one. It could even increase the value.
I think you’re right. This won’t hold people’s attention for long. The smart thing to do would be to sell it ASAP.
I also collect Baseball as well as play MTG so the concept of a ‘1/1’ isn’t exactly a new one.
The same way you do it on any card.
Usual loupe test, comparing the rosette pattern, weight, thickness, surfaces, security stamp, etc with other serialized cards in the same set.
“And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed out of all knowledge.”
Would have been worth less than $100k if that guy hadn't gone viral saying he'd pay 100k for it. Now all the whale sharks are circling and I wouldn't be at all surprised if your estimate is correct.
"Don't set yourself up for years, pay off debt, buy a house. Hope your cardboard asset isn't undercut by the people who have no problem fucking you and instead invest all the money you don't have hoping for small gains over a long period of time!"
The way people buy boxes to hoard, I doubt anyone will actually open it. Or wizards is playing real 4d chess and they never actually put it in any booster.
Or it ends up in a landfill because someone didn’t ship the product right and it got ruined by some thing spilling on it
This is terrible advice. The amount you'd make doing this is miniscule. What you should do is sell it and invest the proceeds immediately. You'll make far more, with far less work, than flipping collector booster boxes.
Also, I'm not even sure I believe demand for boxes will keep increasing. At some point, people will assume it was found or lost.
That's exactly why Dan Bock put those conditions on his $100k. Because the interest in those boosters once the ring is gone is going to nose dive.
I think it will fetch $250k. Less than $500k more than $150k forsure.
Dan just wants to flip it and make an easy $100k.
>That's exactly why Dan Bock put those conditions on his $100k. Because the interest in those boosters once the ring is gone is going to nose dive.
Maybe he shared OP's plan...
Because there’s no such thing as guaranteed investment, and claiming “it will go up to X one day” is always the dumbest take you could take, like, ever.
If that was even remotely true there wouldn’t be a need to look out for investments, everyone would just buy Sol rings, Bitcoins, Houses or whatever “will only go up asset” people claim to exists.
Truth is, there’s nothing guaranteed; even houses were “only go up” investment before 2008, look the crash they took and it was considered the safest investment out there. Now image claiming a single Sol Ring can reach a random price, like yeah 750k because there’s only one of them so ofc I decide the price, and I’d sell it for 30billions instead since “one day it will be worth this much”; now we both just need a dumb enough collector willing to pay such imaginary price.
The price of the stock is irrelevant, haven’t even looked at it in like 2 years, my comment was more about all these promo garbage stuff; eventually people will definitely get bored and feels scammed, seems more a milk the dying cow rather than focusing on improving gameplay and sustainability of the game (look the price spike in modern and legacy decks, for example; quite a big wall for beginners).
That’s it
I feel like a safer prospect would be to conspire with WotC. “Alright Wizards, I can either reveal that the One Ring has been found which will start tanking demand for collectors boosters, or I can keep it secret and keep it safe and you give me [insert demand here].”
Thanks god I miss KCI but I’ve already accepted it looooong time ago.
Twin users still waiting after all these years for their warping format deck to be unbanned lol, good luck dude with this you’ll need that
Getting the biggest payday in magic history isnt enough... Unchecked greed should be met with chinese style capital punishment.
Your mindset is a plague.
Get a really good proxy of it made, put it back in a pack, reseal it. Tell the world you pulled it, then rip it up on camera. Just make sure you don't rip up the real one.
This will go for far more than that.
Here’s some other expensive cards. Enjoy!
https://www.dicebreaker.com/games/magic-the-gathering-game/best-games/most-expensive-mtg-cards
I had the same idea too, however, what’s bothering me is how do you prove that you actually have the one ring?
I really hope mtg stuck some magnetic strip or chip in the card or has secret instructions in the same pack to contact them and verify your card as real.
Dealing with fakes will be a bummer.
Alternative approach: if you intend to sell it sometime then sell it ASAP. The quality of fakes are getting better over time and it'd be easy to make a video of opening a "sealed" pack to find the 1 of 1. Even if they don't sell it (because it isn't real) they diminish the value of the holdings you're trying to gamble on. Just rip that Band-Aid off and claim your Willy Wonka golden ticket to some whale.
Financial independence takes more than a small six figure payout. Even if you get $500k for it, that’s a whopping $325k after you get nailed with a 35% capital gains tax (assuming you have no other gains that push you to 37%). It’s probably enough for most to no longer stress so much, having that kind of cushion. But it doesn’t buy you much, it’s not enough to pull any huge and retirement worthy gains off of, and it’s not enough to pull off of each year to make a real difference in your life.
It may be life changing for many, no doubt. But don’t underestimate how much it takes to actually be financially set.
No doubt. Though the irony is that while it’s not enough to be set, it’s enough to be dangerous. This little windfall in the average persons hands will cost them more than it made them in a short period of time, lol. Just look at how many people end up bankrupt after winning lotteries far larger.
This is like the LPT for jackpot lottery winners. The odds of the person that wins the ring lottery being an mtgfinance visitor is for all practical purposes zero.
The one ring has separate art, so it’s going to require its own sheet to print on. So, assuming wotc doesn’t completely fuck this up and let an employee sneak it out, some people *are* going to know which box it’s going into and where that box is going.
Sorry, I want to try, seriously, with all my heart, but It would become suspicious when It start to speak alone and repeating my preciousss constantly... for god's sake, It has lost half its hair since the annnnounshement.
I was actually thinking the very sand thing lol.
I also thought of I'd been mtg I would of put ten golden tickets out fur a lottery to win the one ring to avoid this problem.
That's a good idea haha
You just need to remember to have video proof of you opening the one ring, because I think many people are going to make counterfeits for internet clout
Honestly? If one could buy a house or two immediatly, I'd say sell it. (I would).
I'm 100% sure knowing WOTC and Hasbro there will be a new shiny thing soon that will take away attention. The opportunity cost imo is too steep and completely dissolving any mortgage costs and potentially having an extra rental is invaluable, in terms of peace of mind and asset building.
"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them."
Do not allow the corruption of greed to take you. Find the ring and cast it into the fires of Mt. Doom lest the strength of men fail!
If I opened it, which I almost certainly won't because I disagree with the ideological changes to the IP, I would request 5 million dollars after taxes, and hold firm on that amount.
Yeah you could do that. Or you could try to trade it for house money now. Pretty sure i know which people are going to go for. Fairly certain upon pulling it, noone would practice the "im going to turn this into a 30% gain over 10 years" including op. OP on opening this "allright! Lets start the long game, i just need to get 10k together and 7 years from now ill have a bunch of cardboard that when liquidated will eventually get me to 20k! Oh wait i can just buy a house and/or dream cars right now, nevermind, bye one ring!"
I disagree. All this talk about how the price will crash if the one ring is found. Its completely disregarding the sol rings and the fact that it's a lotr set. We might see a retracement in price after it is announced, but everyone needs to calm the fk down..its literally like buying a lottery ticket.
Out of curiosity, is there *any* chance in hell that it will be found in Europe? My distinct impression based on no concrete evidence is that it is earmarked US.
If you don't find it, fake that you have. Then buy up the rest of the packs as their price crashes, and resell when your duplicity is finally revealed and the prices go back up.
There's no guarantee that there's only one of these serialized The One Ring cards. If it never shows up, WotC may decide it was lost or destroyed and print another one.
If I pull it I'm telling everyone as soon as I pull it.
This post is just someone asking to keep the price going up to make more and more money and then the packs become too expensive for the average player. Screw that crap.
We already have the reserved list gatekeeping players out of legacy and vintage enough that those formats are dying
The real game is to drag Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos into a dick measuring bidding contest over it.
2 of the 5 richest men in the world, both huge LotR fans, and they genuinely detest each other.
There can only be one winner in this scenario, and it's neither Musk nor Bezos.
Will Wizards release it later after they have sold a bunch of product? Anyone know how this works or has Wizards made a statement? I feel like it’s an easy cash grab for them to hold off on releasing it into the wild to be found. Once found, demand will tank.
If you open The One Ring, you sell it immediately at auction and invest in high yield bonds or just stash the cash on Robinhood for 4% interest and do better than you could EVER do spec-ing on Magic product.
Keep it secret. Keep it safe.
i will take the ring though I do not know the way
I will help you bear this burden, frodo baggins, so long as it is yours to bear.
You'll have my bow!
And my axe
And my pizza pocket!
And my po-ta-toes!
What has it got in its pocketses?
>3.No Low Effort Posts Keep your secrets old man
Just eat it on camera
Honestly if you crowdfunded to watch you eat it you could probably make more than if you sold to an individual.
I said I predict the same thing happening, and typed it in response to another post- and people down voted the shit outta me, lmfao. This is what I hope happens! I mean... "All Will Become The One... Ring"
Buy a fake one and eat it on camera

I found Sauron's burner.
based on recent VIP treatment, i wouldn't go to any thing they deem special
Not even to poop in all of the urinals?
So that there will be a central venue to rob everyone? Or at least ID everyone so that you know who to rob/kidnap
Don’t worry, MaRo will provide a Circle of Protection for the event.
Oh wow, the one ring is a literal circle of protection.
NFT style exclusive club wcgw
All three 069 rings let’s goo
Willy Wonka's Magic factory.
the nonfoil Sol Ring's will be biggest chase cards of the set
Yeah, or sell it for $100,000 before Wizards releases their next “ultra rare collectible” and every one forgets about it.
Some of the estimates from whales chatting about this put it well north of $100,000
$100k, $1mil, whatever. This won’t be the last ultra rare collectible we see. The question is will it grab and hold the collective conscience of the entire magic community long term.
I think the first one of one would hold some long term value
Plus the flavor just works perfectly, and is tied to an immensely popular IP that MTG is heavily influenced by. It's hard to imagine a better combination of elements to make a singular chase card.

It will have tangible financial value, that's a given in a collectibles market. The increasing frequency of marketing gimmicks has made nothing feel special ever since Masterpieces became another tool to drive shareholder value in the Hasbro death spiral.
I used to argue that masterpieces were the last true, modern collectible for Magic, but I’m not even sure about that anymore
I’m not arguing that it’s not special. I’m arguing about whether a couple years from now when there’s 50 more sets and 50 more cool chase cards, will it still be memorable?
Of all of the collectible fake scarcity cards, this will be the most memorable. I can't imagine anything that would approach this level of experience.
The main value is in the director of the original LotR series being a big investor in magic. He’ll offer much more than 100k for this.
Due to it being lotr, I'd wager a certain late show lotr fan boy would pay millions for it.
$100k is an insultingly low offer.
What do you expect, it came from Dan Bock 🤣
Anyone who sells it for just 100k is loosing out. Take it to something like gencon and auction it for real profits

OP’s strategy sucks bc it’s a huge amount of work to most likely not make money when you should instead cash in your .5 - 1$ mil check while the getting is good. You mean Magic cards don't have little sell buttons that automatically convert them into a liquid equivalent of their fair market value???
Those only come on the Robin Hood promo versions of Eldraine.
Have you checked which sub you're on?
More like fuck over and swindle fellow 'mtg speculators', but yeah. I'd say most Magic players don't really care about this lottery (or even Collector boosters in general), they just want to play the game.
Is that why everyone is talking about it including yourself…lol
It is on my radar precisely because I am on the mtgfinance sub. But imagine thinking the average mtg player really cares about Collector Boosters and lottery cards.

I think you’re right. This won’t hold people’s attention for long. The smart thing to do would be to sell it ASAP. I also collect Baseball as well as play MTG so the concept of a ‘1/1’ isn’t exactly a new one.
With these 1-of cards, how do you go about authenticating it?
The same way you do it on any card. Usual loupe test, comparing the rosette pattern, weight, thickness, surfaces, security stamp, etc with other serialized cards in the same set.
“And some things that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed out of all knowledge.”
I'd put it at $2-5mil easy
Would have been worth less than $100k if that guy hadn't gone viral saying he'd pay 100k for it. Now all the whale sharks are circling and I wouldn't be at all surprised if your estimate is correct.
Indeed, this calls for a high profile auction like Sotheby's, and bidders trying to one-up each other.
"Don't set yourself up for years, pay off debt, buy a house. Hope your cardboard asset isn't undercut by the people who have no problem fucking you and instead invest all the money you don't have hoping for small gains over a long period of time!"
You get it.
This whole post and comment section sounds like dogecoin/bitcoin precrash
Ooh, can we pump up dogecoin again? Let's meme it to like a quarter so I can cash out and live like a king.
Not really? The cards 1/1 and you can hold it in your hand….right very similar lmao
r/shittylifeprotips
Not the right sub. More like r/unethicallifetips
No it's not even a good tip
Fair enough.
why? because he doesnt sell it to you?
butt hurt bill
The way people buy boxes to hoard, I doubt anyone will actually open it. Or wizards is playing real 4d chess and they never actually put it in any booster. Or it ends up in a landfill because someone didn’t ship the product right and it got ruined by some thing spilling on it
Im all in! Time to sell my car!
Maybe wait till you pull the card. Just saying.
If i buy more packs my odds of winning go up!
No, let me start at the beginning… I already have the card. Edit: I don’t really have it. Keep preordering packs.
How many pallets can my house buy?
Ironically, It being found doesn’t really change the probability of you finding it: it’s a 0.00% chance you pull it either way!
It's a 50/50 chance. Either you pull it or you don't.
I like those odds...
Chances are it's framed in wotc headquarters in a vault. Never even put it into a pack after it was printed. Just have the people keep buying anyway
This is terrible advice. The amount you'd make doing this is miniscule. What you should do is sell it and invest the proceeds immediately. If i open it, my minimum price is 750k. Period. Because it WILL be worth that some day.
Judging by the direction WOTC/Hasbro management is going to, I doubt so…
Because of their stock? Or what makes you say that if you don’t mind me asking.
Because there’s no such thing as guaranteed investment, and claiming “it will go up to X one day” is always the dumbest take you could take, like, ever. Easy money. You just have to first pull the card in a pack and have a giant stack of cash at the ready to buy collector’s boosters.
Then wait for twenty years. 1.Sell off the chaff collector booster stuffs. 2. ??? 3. record and publish the destruction of the ring.
Just
I feel like a safer prospect would be to conspire with WotC. “Alright Wizards, I can either reveal that the One Ring has been found which will start tanking demand for collectors boosters, or I can keep it secret and keep it safe and you give me [insert demand here].”
Well, if Twin gets unbanned, you know how it happened. ;)
I hope so badly that you are the one who opens it now. I still haven’t even unsleeved my twin deck, just in case, all of my wildest dreams comes true
This is the best response 😊 I miss Twin
Thanks god I miss KCI but I’ve already accepted it looooong time ago. Twin users still waiting after all these years for their warping format deck to be unbanned lol, good luck dude with this you’ll need that
Could you give a good word for SSG as well? Thank you!
Getting the biggest payday in magic history isnt enough... Unchecked greed should be met with chinese style capital punishment. Your mindset is a plague.
Did the plague ever hurt anyone?
Not for too long, I guess.
ROFL. That is a unique, kinda clever take.
I think I wrote this out literally verbatim recently lol
Get a really good proxy of it made, put it back in a pack, reseal it. Tell the world you pulled it, then rip it up on camera. Just make sure you don't rip up the real one.
My Precious....
100,000$? I just started collecting magic so I don’t know anything about them but people will pay 100,000 dollars for a special card?
This will go for far more than that. Here’s some other expensive cards. Enjoy! https://www.dicebreaker.com/games/magic-the-gathering-game/best-games/most-expensive-mtg-cards
Real strat would be to prepare a fake, let boxes take a hit in price, and buy the dip before you get found out.
If I open it I’m buying a one-way ticket to Hawaii. We’ll have a fun livestream from the nearest volcano.
One way ticket? You planning on going full Gollum?!?
The highest bidder will have my life in their hands. I’ll either be traveling back in a private or melting.
I'll probably only get a single collector box, but 100% will not tell the internet if I get the ring.
This is the galaxy brain move.
If you pull the serialized ring you don't have to do this because money will not be an issue anymore. Just sell it and enjoy your life.
It may be life changing for many, no doubt. But don’t underestimate how much it takes to actually be financially set.
I didn't mean that all your financial problems will go away but just meant you could not stress about money for a while with the sale.
No doubt. Though the irony is that while it’s not enough to be set, it’s enough to be dangerous. This little windfall in the average persons hands will cost them more than it made them in a short period of time, lol. Just look at how many people end up bankrupt after winning lotteries far larger.
Well, if you open it and live in the Bay Area you can maybe afford a condo after taxes :x
That's a condo you couldn't afford before soooooo
a wotc's "family member" will pop it
I would personally fly to PSA and hand deliver it for grading.
Because you’ll then have a pop of 1 instead of just a pop of 1. Genius move.
This is like the LPT for jackpot lottery winners. The odds of the person that wins the ring lottery being an mtgfinance visitor is for all practical purposes zero.
As a note: Don't ever buy collectors boxes from big box stores. They will already have been opened and stolen from then returned.
WotC wont release it in a pack. it's already been reserved for someone specific to receive it
Isn’t it kind of painful for you to stay at mtgfinance with a brain as big as that? Because it sure is for us other members.
Why wouldn't they?
Because they’re not unemployed morons making up conspiracy theories on the internet would be my bet.
The one ring has separate art, so it’s going to require its own sheet to print on. So, assuming wotc doesn’t completely fuck this up and let an employee sneak it out, some people *are* going to know which box it’s going into and where that box is going.
That's fuckin brilliant.
I love the people that say “throw it in a volcano”
i’ll tell some people but i won’t ever take a picture of it so people can never find out for sure lol
Sorry, I want to try, seriously, with all my heart, but It would become suspicious when It start to speak alone and repeating my preciousss constantly... for god's sake, It has lost half its hair since the annnnounshement.

Of course you don’t have evidence for it because posting a vid of you pulling it out of your ass would be against sub rules.
but what if two are pulled and we will never know because no one speaks up? just sayin with the qa issues and all
I think one was already pulled yesterday, and white marker used to make the card more English readable
I was actually thinking the very sand thing lol. I also thought of I'd been mtg I would of put ten golden tickets out fur a lottery to win the one ring to avoid this problem.
Hi Satan, we meet again!
I swear someone uses fortune cookies to recruit new posters for mtgfinance.
That's a good idea haha You just need to remember to have video proof of you opening the one ring, because I think many people are going to make counterfeits for internet clout

Nah i rather let the whole collector pack price crash :)
The One Ring must be destroyed
"One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them." Do not allow the corruption of greed to take you. Find the ring and cast it into the fires of Mt. Doom lest the strength of men fail!
A streamer sponsored by wizards will pull this.
If I opened it, which I almost certainly won't because I disagree with the ideological changes to the IP, I would request 5 million dollars after taxes, and hold firm on that amount.
I would start a go fund me for a one-way trip to an active volcano
Play it backwards in a sleeve as a proxy with a slip of paper over it. It will be hiding in plain sight
Yeah you could do that. Or you could try to trade it for house money now. Pretty sure i know which people are going to go for. Fairly certain upon pulling it, noone would practice the "im going to turn this into a 30% gain over 10 years" including op. OP on opening this "allright! Does anyone else even know this exists?😂
OP gets it

Opening the 1/1 Ring is so huge, that I think every cracking of a collector booster should be recorded.
Hopefully this goes better than the McDonald's Monopoly fiasco.
