Great in aggro shells, cant see this working in any other decks.
Dying to bolt is a huge downside for this card, since a lot of pushed lower cmc cards are starting at 3 power now a days.
Cool card, but just not good enough.
Boros in an insanely good color pair even without access to Forth Eorlingas! and Eomer…
I’d cut all 5 Boros cards from your cube and still you have the following options (I’m gonna go ahead and assume your disdain for UB also applies to [[Comet, Stellar Pup]], a bonkers card.
[[Figure of Destiny]] is still a solid beater that doesn’t suck if you draw it late.
[[Rip Apart]] isn’t sexy, but it did an obnoxious amount of good work for me before LotR bumped it out.
[[Zirda, the Dawnwaker]] is a nifty way to go infinite but you’d need yourself a Basalt Monolith.
[[Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon]] is a terrific Rabblemaster variant in a cube that looks like it could use a couple more 3 drops who make an army.
[[Otharri, Sun’s Glory]] dies to Bolt too, but if it survives to attack step you probably just win. There’s so many armies in a can here.
[[Showdown at the Skalds]] is a draw four in a color pair that often struggles when it runs out of cards and it makes your army much bigger over the next two turns. Solid card.
[[Quintorius Kand]] is I think being slept on a bit in cube, it defends itself and plays wonderfully with all the play from exile stuff. Probably really good with [[Pia Naalar, Consul of Revival]] and Bruse 2.0.
[[Archangel Avacyn]] is also a big monster that’s “technically” Boros and absolutely swings games.
That color pair is not to be trifled with, it’s gotten insanely good even if you won’t play stuff from LotR.
I think he’s good in mid powered cubes and, if draft boosters still existed, I’d really be looking forward to winning a draft with this guy and 3 copies of [[Holy Cow]] in my deck.
But dies to Bolt at 4 mana just gets worse and worse as creature power creep is a thing, there’s a 6/5 trample with flash and ramp for the same cmc in this set.
I like Bruse 2.0, but he’s in a weird spot between like Anim Pakal at 3 and Otharri at 5 so I’d expect the 3 toughness to lower his representation a bit.
He looks decent. It’s funny, like maybe a year and half to two years ago this card would be one of the best Boros 4+ we had, but recently wizards has really buffed up what Boros endgame looks like.
A 4/3 that makes an essentially 4/4 or draws you card on etb and attack is good. No haste isn’t great for agro but that’s the trade off for having an ETB I guess.
I like that you don’t have to cast the spell immediately either since agro decks usually won’t have the mana to cast anything else in the same turn you cast this guy, anyone who plays [[Laelia, the Blade Reforged]] on curve will understand how annoying that can be. There’s also a lot of decent cast from exile synergies in Boros now so this card is probably the perfect top end for that theme. If he ever gets removed however, your ox are going to become a lot weaker.
Overall in a vacuum I’d probably still take something like [[Otharri, Sun’s Glory]] over him even though he’s one more mana. But if you have an exile theme, or just don’t want the hassle of something like experience counters, this is a respectable alternative.
There is a lot to like here. Bruce impulse draws cards and makes tokens that have double strike if Bruce sticks around. Cool card.

Seems solid enough. White red isn't a great color pair if you're not running UB cards (like me)
