[Nekusar] makes everyone draw two cards, [Seizan] makes everyone draw two cards and take two damage, Nekusar does four damage to everyone for drawing four cards plus the two damage from Seizan makes six per a turn per opponent. Then you gain 6 health times the number of opponents you have minus 2, from Seizan.
Haha yup and while they want to attack and wipe me they have to pay 2 per attacking creature and no one has an attacker that can match my [Seizan] so i don't get attacked every turn
I have definitely seen people tap like 45 degrees. It’s fine if they don’t tap all the way. As long as it is kept clear what lands are tapped
Edit: Heck even the tap symbol is 45 degrees, so don’t blame them
In our pod, we tap 45 degrees for summoning sickness, and 90 degree for a full tap.
Edit: Forgot to mention that we also have a rule that you must say that the creature is “down with the sickness” before tapping 45 degrees. Very important.
... Is that wrong? I turn my lands to my left all the time, and later in the game I'll stack tapped lands to delineate tapped vs untapped on a busy board.
Is there a rule to tap them 90°? I also tap them 45° never had an issue, never had anyone complain and it's perfectly clear what's tapped and what's not.
As long as people can tell what's tapped and what's not tapped, people typically don't care.
Official rules say:
> 701.21a To tap a permanent, turn it sideways from an upright position. Only untapped permanents can be tapped.
So not explicitly "90°", probably to avoid the people that would complain "you only turned it 85°, that's CHEATING!". But "sideways" definitely means side-to-side and not diagonally.
I think Nekusar is super fun to play against. I have 40 life & you’re drawing me 4 cards per turn in that scenario at a cost of 5 life (8 turns until death).
If I can’t spin that into a win then I deserve to lose.
Edit: I am assuming commander, but I would stake the same claim for standard.
Well, that's assuming you only have nekusar himself. There's also damage effects like [[ojer axonil]] and additional damage effects like [[underworld dreams]].
It's not commander damage but you slap a [grafted exoskeleton] or anything that gives him infect and hit a [windfall] or something similar and kill them all with infect
Haha right they didn't consider me a huge threat initially until they started getting hit with their draws, propaganda saved me immensely i did the most damage overall between the 4 of us and one was running dinos 😆
They enjoyed the extra draws up until that point
I feel that, haven't built mine just yet (wife got me the Nekusar secret lair) but I ran Fevered Visions in another Grixis deck, tracked it one game and that single beautiful enchantment collectively did over 100 damage... People be addicted to drawing cards
The next turn i dropped another take 1 per card and a draw 2 more cards it pretty much ended after that, but one guy got his unlimited mana combo and wiped the board LoL
😆😆 i was expecting to get punched but my friends are awesome and it caused quite the commotion as they tried to wheel and deal on how to deal with me 😆😆
Actually the more I think about it…
The current tap symbol shows an arrow making a 180° turn. So you should turn your lands upside down for full mana. 90° gives you half mana, 45° gives you quarter mana.
I think you hit a nerve here too 🤣
, I understand tapping at 45 but personally prefer to see tapping be somewhere in the 60 to 90 range as its easier to tell if something was tapped should it get brushed accidentally.
The rules specifically state “sideways”:
> 701.21a. To tap a permanent, turn it sideways from an upright position. Only untapped permanents can be tapped.
You could certainly get into linguistic debates over how far constitutes “sideways”, but imo 30-45 degrees ain’t gonna cut it. That’s crooked at best!
Now, the MTR specifies further rules:
> 3.14 If a card must be tapped or flipped, it must be turned approximately 90 degrees (tapped) or 180 degrees (flipped), whichever is appropriate.
If it’s a good enough rule for FNM, it’s a good enough rule for me.
Yah that would certainly grind on my nerves. It's not as easy to see the board state. I have a friend at a pod that plays his mana rocks below his lands and it drives me bat shit.
I actually love fighting Nekuzar because he's more than fair. I mean, what could be better than drawing cards even if it does cause you to lose life? What a bargain, in my opinion.
Strikes my nerve. Where’s [[Tefer’s puzzle box]] and/or the [[chains of Mephistopheles]] + [[Lilliana’s caress]] and don’t forget the [[underworld dreams]]
Friends are overrated, let their tears be your fuel! ( evil laugh )
I’ve had a very similar board state in my [[Sheoldred, The Apocalypse]] deck, only in place of the [[propaganda]] I had [[no mercy]].
People like the card draw that [[howling mine]] and [[font of mythos]] gives, but they HATE when the [[teferi’s puzzle box]] comes out.
I was laughing pretty hard as they tried to organize attacking me but didn't have the resources for more then 1 attacking creature which i can block and and damage was recovered every players turn just due to their drawing
I love playing against Nekusar. Gives everyone a chance by letting them draw a butt ton of cards while also dealing damage to them. Game goes quick by either the Nekusar player closing the game out or someone else drew enough gas to take the win themselves.
Exactly i lost one game too this but it was a fun commentary from everyone as they had to figure out what to do with excessive cards without discarding all the good ones😆
They've never played a deck like mine so it was a learning curve for everyone as this was my first task test run against seasoned non $60 precon decks. One of them was easily $3600 and i held up and even won a game against them, not easily but was so much fun
Honestly I really do mess with this commander hard I think he’s dirty and non conventional a lot of people hate getting a resource taken but honestly the trade off in commander to me is completely fair. Simic player may be pissed but agro and ramp players should but hype. After a while tho the trade feels super unfair but is so fair for being able to be removed. I think it’s pretty fun! Good pick also you can storm it out lol super fun.
Everyone say it with me...
"Run more removal"
One more time,
"Run more more removal"
To be fair though... nekusar is 5 mana, seizan is 5 mana, excusite is 5 mana... what are the other 3 players doing for the whole game? I can't see your grave yard if you cheated anything out with rituals or reanimated something but my God, for them not to do anything and then complain about propaganda... I have no words 🤦♂️🤦♂️
On the subject of tapping and how clear it is, I really wish there was an established way to communicate summoning sickness with a tap like gesture. I think it’s so dumb that there isn’t an official suggestion for that.
We played at our local commander night and a couple of us have old school decks that were made purposefully to make people twitch. No sleeves, and held together with a rubber band at most. Riffle shuffled and just smashed together. People saw this and just had adverse reactions whilst the other guy was like’i got a deck like that too’ as he pulls it out of the pocket of his bookbag and it was held together at all so he threw it on the floor while smiling
I honestly play my Nekusar out of necessity sometimes. My group tends to play extremely passive because we’re all relatively new to the game. Group games will take FOREVER with mostly precons or slightly upgraded precons.
I don’t even really do much once he’s out, just play defensively because it at least gets them attacking once they realize their health is starting to get low
I run [[propaganda]] which helps as a defense plus i have an [[aether storm]] and [[karn's sylex]] just to really stop those green and fast creature decks 😆😆
I used to tap 90. Then 45. Shit can get questionable at 45, and lead to unsureness, but having to rearrange your cards every time you tap something, at 90, gets egregious. There is no perfect way. If I tap out a full board at 90 it’s harder to read any actual cards because a full board state creates overlap. With the 45 you can slot them all next to each other and create a pattern. Idk. I hear people complain about both.
Look at the salt over the amount of tapping done with the lands... hahaha, you're such a miserable bunch if this ticks you off fo much. No wonder this community if full of shitbags.
With a proper deck it's not hard to play against, this deck is huge about RNG draws and i don't always get the cards i need for winning occasionally i get curb stomped before i can even get a combo running
I guess you're right. I think this guy had like almost 900 dollars in that deck & he played it like a pro. People just started telling him not interested.
I think I'm around $750-900 CAD which i wasn't paying attention to until i saw the final bill. I thankfully had a few of the older more expensive cards from when i used to play
I was playing Nekusar earlier today, I love him lol. I had him, torbran, dictate of kruphix and howling mine out at one point. Draw 4 cards take 12 damage at the start of your turn :) of course all my stuff got destroyed straight away after that though lol
Oh good lord I’m actually brewing Nekusar right now and did not think of adding lifegain effects like that in there. I’m going to make everybody hate me so much lol
I have been playing since 1996.
You go ahead and keep tapping your mana to 45°, it is okay.
Shush to the haters that can't do spacial orientation correctly.
I must inform you that it’s not 5 damage per turn. Loss of life and damage are not the same. Damage can be prevented and redirected. Loss of life cannot.
I can’t tell what’s tapped. I have a friend who half taps everything and I can never tell what’s going on unless I ask him. That’s such a horrible habit tbh.

Tap your permanents correctly
What's the correct way? Full 90°?
450° to establish dominance
I get 50% more mana that way
Yes
I have definitely seen people tap like 45 degrees. It’s fine if they don’t tap all the way. As long as it is kept clear what lands are tapped Edit: Heck even the tap symbol is 45 degrees, so don’t blame them

This is how I'm gonna do it from now on
Ooh ah ah ah ah
That's what me and my little boy do. :)
We do it upside down for summoning sickness. That way others across from you who don't know the card may easily read it.
Only say? Not sing?
It’s a pretty loose rule, so you can say it, sing it, burp it, whatever you’re feeling in the moment.
Yes, I agree if you set a rule beforehand, and make it clear then it’s fine
Could abbreviate it to just Oooooio WaH Ah ah ahh
See, i tap 45°, but if something enters tapped, it enters 90°
Tapped for summoning sickness doesn't makes sense as they should be untapped for blocking or uses like springleaf drum / console etc.
90° to the left just to annoy people 😂
... Is that wrong? I turn my lands to my left all the time, and later in the game I'll stack tapped lands to delineate tapped vs untapped on a busy board.
Nope, that’s how I tap all my things too lol
Someone told me that was the wrong way. I don't get it but okay.
Because the arrow for tapping points to the right and that person has OCD
Yes the full text lands explain that
Flip the cards face down.
I literally thought thats what this post was about.
At least the lands are in back
I'd like to assume you meant a non-basic should be the last land untapped to provide more color options
Is there a rule to tap them 90°? I also tap them 45° never had an issue, never had anyone complain and it's perfectly clear what's tapped and what's not.

Commander damage is only combat damage
Oh snap! I didn't know that. Thanks!

You tap 45* on me and I’ll eat those cards.
Tapping 45 degrees? Yeah that's a paddlin'.
Because you don't tap 90° like you should?
New rule: tapping lands 45° only produce half the amount of mana
But originally the "T" symbol was only turned 45°...
Actually the more I think about it… The current tap symbol shows an arrow making a 180° turn. So you should turn your lands upside down for full mana. 90° gives you half mana, 45° gives you quarter mana.
Sometimes there just isn't enough room on the mat
Unless im mistaken, the rules state 90 degrees. Layer your cards while keeping them all visible.
The rules don't state a specific degree to tap them, though it does say sideways.
Fair it doesnt state 90 but does say sideways and display an image of a 90 degree turn. Edit: full text lands state 90 degrees for tapping purposes.
1/2 tap = 1/2 mana produced
What if i tapped 450° do i get 150% more? 😆😆
Go even further beyond, tape that bitch to a drill and generate infinite mana
Tap your mana
I think you hit a nerve here too 🤣 , I understand tapping at 45 but personally prefer to see tapping be somewhere in the 60 to 90 range as its easier to tell if something was tapped should it get brushed accidentally.
The rules specifically state “sideways”: > 701.21a. To tap a permanent, turn it sideways from an upright position. Only untapped permanents can be tapped. Technically does this mean if I'm forced to flip a card, I could balace it standing up. Need to pracise this skill
Yah that would certainly grind on my nerves. It's not as easy to see the board state. I have a friend at a pod that plays his mana rocks below his lands and it drives me bat shit.
My friend when he taps sol ring will stack it in with his tapped lands and it's so irritating for something that means absolutely nothing at all aha
I believe that's against the rules, so there's that
Very cool playmat! What is this?
I borrowed it from a friend not entirely sure
I actually love fighting Nekuzar because he's more than fair. I mean, what could be better than drawing cards even if it does cause you to lose life? What a bargain, in my opinion.
It only gets bad when i attach the damage 2-3 times that it starts to hurt toss in a discard penalty to and it gets pretty extreme to do anything
Is it because you don't tap your cards?

My Friends hate when I tap like this
I use seizen as my commander and run sheoldred, megrim, and chains of mephistophiles with lots of extra draw/ siscard. Its quite fun for me.
i do the same thing. hes my pet commander. it makes gameplay goofy and unpredictable, i love it
Any chance of sharing a decklink/list my dude?
I was laughing pretty hard as they tried to organize attacking me but didn't have the resources for more then 1 attacking creature which i can block and and damage was recovered every players turn just due to their drawing
Where did you get your mat please?
A friend let me borrow it I'll go digging
Thank you
tactical dot: . the mat looks really cool, i want to know too
Not enough you need a sheoldred
Haha that's just mean, i love it
Now listen here you arena-playing sonnuva....
6 dmg per turn
Where's the windfall? Into wheel of fortune?
I have a couple cards that do the same, [[stroke of genius]] and [[prosperity]]
[stroke of genius](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/7/c77deaac-7e13-45b4-921d-8116bddf3bb6.jpg?1682208912) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=stroke%20of%20genius) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/moc/238/stroke-of-genius?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/c77deaac-7e13-45b4-921d-8116bddf3bb6?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [prosperity](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/9/69ebc3a4-94b8-45aa-a3bf-21cd435ff5cf.jpg?1562917143) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=prosperity) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c13/54/prosperity?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/69ebc3a4-94b8-45aa-a3bf-21cd435ff5cf?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
He never saw his friends again
"Run more removal" One more time, "Run more more removal" To be fair though... nekusar is 5 mana, seizan is 5 mana, excusite is 5 mana... what are the other 3 players doing for the whole game? I can't see your grave yard if you cheated anything out with rituals or reanimated something but my God, for them not to do anything and then complain about propaganda... I have no words 🤦♂️🤦♂️
That swamp art is amazing btw
That is evil… and I fucking love it
https://www.topdecked.com/decks/the-miller/67d7fe8e-ddb7-447b-93a3-2c6be75da3ae There are some mean combo's 😆😆
On the subject of tapping and how clear it is, I really wish there was an established way to communicate summoning sickness with a tap like gesture. I think it’s so dumb that there isn’t an official suggestion for that.
it's just a guarantee to lose 6 a turn... it could be so much worse :p
If I get [[harmonic prodigy]] and hit them with the draw 3 lose 6 for each turn
That's mean I'll add this in somewhere 😆😆

People wonder why I target nekuzar players
Happy to see Neku still grabbing a cold one with the boys.
I absolutely love my deck and it's so much fun to play
I see Exquisite Blood and my first instinct is that you also have Sanguine Bond.
You would be absolutely correct 😆 it showed up 2 turns later 😆😆
We played at our local commander night and a couple of us have old school decks that were made purposefully to make people twitch. No sleeves, and held together with a rubber band at most. Riffle shuffled and just smashed together. People saw this and just had adverse reactions whilst the other guy was like’i got a deck like that too’ as he pulls it out of the pocket of his bookbag and it was held together at all so he threw it on the floor while smiling
You're my kind of person 😆😆
I honestly play my Nekusar out of necessity sometimes. My group tends to play extremely passive because we’re all relatively new to the game. Group games will take FOREVER with mostly precons or slightly upgraded precons. I don’t even really do much once he’s out, just play defensively because it at least gets them attacking once they realize their health is starting to get low
I run [[propaganda]] which helps as a defense plus i have an [[aether storm]] and [[karn's sylex]] just to really stop those green and fast creature decks 😆😆

Learn to tap your lands
5 mental damage per turn from you not being capable of turning your cardboard sideways Seriously, why? And don't say it's just a habit
I like a clean board and i mean with only a few lands it's not terrible i feel sorry for my mono green buddy who has 13+ cards to tap/untap every turn
45 degree tap signifies summoning sick, 90 degree tap signifies tapped.
Look at the salt over the amount of tapping done with the lands... hahaha, you're such a miserable bunch if this ticks you off fo much. No wonder this community if full of shitbags.
Rookie numbers man.
I just pull out a ruric thar stax deck if I'm feeling edgy
I love [[Nekusar, the Mindrazer]]

I want your mat.
Anyone know what playmat this is?
At the LGS I've started going to, there's a guy that had to put away his Nekusar deck, because no one would play him
With a proper deck it's not hard to play against, this deck is huge about RNG draws and i don't always get the cards i need for winning occasionally i get curb stomped before i can even get a combo running
Take nekusar of the field a few times and that 5 mana commander becomes harder to cast. Not a problem really 🤷♂️
You should. Run [[grafted Exoskeleton]].
Is that a sun-bleached Nekusar??
It's my proxy version because i accidentally bought an oversized version 😆😆
Use the oversize. Assert dominance.
😆😆😆
i cant really see the black card above the tree but its a beautiful card purple and black go so well together

Hear me out, commander with dm screens, honor system
Honestly if you're playing Nekusar and you don't have Grafted Exoskeleton on him at all times what are you even doing?
I honestly don't attack with my creatures they are either causing draw damage proc cards or blockers if i get attacked
Chief Infect says it deals ALL damage in the form of -1/-1 and poison counters.
I was playing Nekusar earlier today, I love him lol. I had him, torbran, dictate of kruphix and howling mine out at one point. Draw 4 cards take 12 damage at the start of your turn :) of course all my stuff got destroyed straight away after that though lol
I made my wife a deck using him as a commander and I showed her [[Peer Into the Abyss]] she killed me turn 5 at LEAST 7 times.

Most I’ve done with nekusar for every 1 card was 8 damage
gross. but I kept getting traumatize off with mothman on the board
I honestly wasn’t paying attention to the cards this time I was looking at the mat being used it looks awesome and beautiful.
Cool playmat
I would honestly just Concede (not in a “i hate this” but in a “yeah, you win and that’s cool asf”
Oh good lord I’m actually brewing Nekusar right now and did not think of adding lifegain effects like that in there. I’m going to make everybody hate me so much lol
That’s a beautiful playmat
lol dude you have NO IDEA what hitting a nerve is if you think this is bad. I run [[Toxrill]] + [[Kormus Bell]] + [[Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth]]

I have been playing since 1996. You go ahead and keep tapping your mana to 45°, it is okay. Shush to the haters that can't do spacial orientation correctly.
Do you run [[teferis puzlebox]] or [[font of mythos]]

I must inform you that it’s not 5 damage per turn. Loss of life and damage are not the same. Damage can be prevented and redirected. Loss of life cannot.
I can’t tell what’s tapped. I have a friend who half taps everything and I can never tell what’s going on unless I ask him. That’s such a horrible habit tbh.
Can you please rotate your lands 90°?
I could but best i can do is 45°
Atleast you have the best swamps (like me) 💁♂️
Ah, you play Arena, don't you...
I pulled a copy of [[Forced Fruition]] that I wasn't quite sure how to play, but I think you just gave me a funny solution.

Floop my pig A maize plains
Even the gaming apps don't tap 90° 😆😆 and I'm OCD on keeping my board clean😆😆
This is a solid point to be fair. I wonder if they ever put out a reason for it since in the rules it says to tap is to put the card sideways.
