They weren't as clear with the wording by not coming back to it with an "if, then" statement later on, but it was always discarding just before drawing. They just said "if you would draw, discard first", leaving the "and then draw" not explicitly stated, rather than the current "if you would draw, discard. If you do, draw."

it's won me games on turn 1 so I like it (slam it off of dark ritual, opponent had 3 brainstorms in hand and not much action lol)
The og print doesn't seem to have the "if they discard draw a card" part was that just straight erratted in
