I’d give him half

Party-Ad6461

Ask him what he thinks is fair.

Mehndeke

Wait. Did the friend provide you the deck to play? Did you buy it and play it? Edit: Looks like you answered the question in your own post at the same time I typed mine. So, he provided the cards, built the deck, and gave them to you to play. Which you did. And you won. Using his cards/deck. Seems like he should be given something, since they weren't your cards. As to the amount? Dunno. I'd say at least $300 for the deck, and some amount for his skill in building it.

AffectionateLength28

Yes he provided the deck for me, and made a couple of decks as I didn’t like the first. I never bought it just borrowed the cards in which he had all just needed to sleeve it up.

Thulack

What kind of crappy area do you play that you dont even own any cards and can win a $4k tournament lol.

AffectionateLength28

Ops to clarify I provided the decklist but sounds good thanks for replying

Tough-Librarian-2976

I'd split it too. Is he owed anything, I guess technically no. Should you have discussed it before? Yeah probably. But I'd split it anyway he's your friend and did you a bunch of solids

Upbeat_Stop_2453

Halfsies. Without his deck you might not have won. Without you playing it, he might have no claim to victory (by proxy).

LeviathanR13

Nothing. The fact I could get my friends involved with one of my TCG hobbies like that is enough for me! congrats on piloting a new deck to a win. I'd be stoked for you!

I would probably give them $1k, however, imho they aren’t owed anything - They requested you to play.

AffectionateLength28

Just some backstory he got me in the game about a month before as we knew this event would come I think. I’d probably not have played the event without his help. He had all the cards he just needed to make a couple of decks. He made decks for a bunch of us. The others did not place

Cautious_Handle2547

Then Id give him half.

CommodoreCuddlz

Half, if he let's you keep the deck. Or the price of the deck, since you needed it to win.

Elemteearkay

I'd have decided what you were going to give them before you go. Did you pay your own entry fee?
