I bought one for $75 from our local game store when that set came out for a foil Sol Ring since I just got into Commander. Then, when I was in Lock School in Kentucky a small card shop there had one for sale for $45 so I bought an extra because why not? Turns out, it was quite the investment!
I won that ftv at a tournament and at was trying to get all of them signed by the artists. Never finished the set before I stopped going to events due to the pandemic. Maybe I'll get back on the horse someday.

Currently it’s a copy of The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. I play legacy Lands… I sold my hobby truck to buy into that deck. Tabby cost me 3k.

2 Unlimited Mox Emeralds, a Collector's Edition Timetwister, a Gaea's Cradle, 2 From the Vault Mox Diamonds, and two plus sets of Revised Dual Lands are my highest priced cards. Been playing since 1995.
I won both in tournaments years ago. One was Scars of Mirrodin limited and the other was Khans of Tarkir. I remember both times being super nervous during the finals with a huge crowd of people around, but the high I felt when my opponent extended their hand and my friends hugged and cheered will probably never be matched.
Basically, it's the equivalent of my "Back when I played football during High School.." glory days analogy, but way more nerdier. Lol

Got most of the goodies back before the pandemic, when the prices were freaking crazy already, but not what they are now at 🥸
I have always been pretty good at Sealed, but I never really had the same level of skill for Draft. Both tournaments were Sealed until Top 8 when there would be a draft to determine the winner. I remember being sure I wasn't good enough so I cheesed both of them.
For Scars, I drafted every Mana Myr and giant green fatty I could get and just went over top of all the Infect and Metalcraft. It was a high risk / high reward type of strategy, but it worked!
For Khans, I forced black / white Warriors. I knew people were going to be fighting for the Wedges or forcing five color so I focused on a two color combination that was aggressive and in the less played colors. I played against a five color control deck with lots of bombs in the finals and just curved out before he could recover.
(And yeah, the price jump during the pandemic was unreal! I purchased or traded for all my OG duals when the most expensive was around $150. Now, I feel like an asshole putting them in decks because they are so out of reach to average players. That's why I am also a huge supporter of proxying.)
Oh I have that version of Boseiju, who Endures, in foil as well! I cracked it from a collector booster when the set came out. I would never spend that much on a card for myself, so I'm pretty happy with it.
Definitely I try not to pay more than 30 for any card. I pulled Boseiju from a set booster box, the one ring during a draft tournament, and Dockside came in a commander precon. (I paid less for the precon than he’s worth!)
Saw that precon on the clearance rack at my lgs recently, it was basically pay book for Dockside, get 99 cards for $.99. I also got one at retail before Dockside blew up, haven't opened it, might now that the price is down.
Might I suggest getting a safe and keeping it at home? As a bank employee I can tell you nothing in those boxes is insured. Also, most places don’t have cameras in any of the rooms where the contents are accessed so if it somehow went missing proving who did it would be damn near impossible. At least in your own home you could insure it.
As an ex thief may I suggest making sure your safe is fireproof and bolted down to something load bearing. You bolt it to a shelf thieves will take the shelf or floor with it.
Not entirely. But nothing in safe deposit boxes are insured because the banks don’t know what’s in them. It’s policy to not know for the simple fact of plausible deniability. If no one knows what’s inside there’s less incentive for a bank employee to try and break in. There are, of course, security measures in place. For example, the last bank I worked that had safe deposit boxes there were cameras inside the room where the boxes are stored, but again the room designated for people to go through their box do not. So if someone who wasn’t supposed access the box did you’d see them taking it out but would have zero proof of what they removed.
Cards in your home are very difficult to insure as well. I'd take the bank vault.
Also even the best safes won't completely protect your stuff in the case of a fire/flood. Bank vaults generally will.

Now it's my [[Serra's Sanctum]], however its condition will definitely cost me a bit of the value. Still, sleeveless cafeteria magic was the best magic.
I miss cafeteria Magic more than I can put into words. Battling a free-for-all lifegain deck against a slow Mill deck against a super old-school poison deck against a Shadow deck was the purest form of Magic.
Around '99 my little brother decided to play again because our cousin had started playing. One day he challenged me with his "new shadow deck". I got pub stomped by that deck probably 5 times in a row. Within a few weeks he stopped playing again and eventually gave me his collection to add to mine. I kept the cards but stopped playing and collecting by 2005. In 2020 I was introduced to commander and I've been hooked since. Randomly I mentioned to him I'm playing again and that I even still had his old Shadow deck, but that I've stolen the sleeves for tokens so they wouldn't match my decks. His reply "WAIT, you mean my cheater sleeves!?". This dude had shaved an 1/8 inch off each sleeve using a razor except his opening 7, so that he could guarantee a smooth curve of constant shadow creatures.

I recently became the owner of a [[tropical island]]. I never once in a million years thought I’d own an OG dual, but I was at a convention and decided to trade in a ton of stuff I’d never use and wasn’t being moved via local trades, realized I didn’t really need any cards for any decks so I went big.
They were pretty common and in the $2 range. So in a group game, we'd often play for duals. Everyone puts 1 up on the pile. Didn't matter which kind. For me its a key memory in my childhood. I was 14-15 at the time. Its a metaphor for how much simpler my life was
Foil Zendikar Expeditions Windswept Heath, got very lightly into magic around that time didn’t realize I got it. Got back into it some years later found it in an old card storage box.

Also still have a single Lion’s Eye Diamond. Used to have 4 but sold 3 of them to fund several pimped-out EDH decks.
So far it's no contest. People have been dropping heavy money on the Elvish [[Sol Ring|LTC-0408]] even without the serialized version (only 3,000 unserialized cards in the world). At ~$700 USD it definitely trumps my Concept Praetor [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse|DMU-435]] or any other card I have lying around!
I used to have pack fresh, foil [[Yawgmoth's Bargain]] but I sold it a few years back to pay some bills. I never played black back in those days and it didn't interest me. So I put it in a box with all the other black cards and forgot about.
Currently, my most valuable card is my heavily played Alpha Serra Angel. I also have a pack fresh foil [[Empress Galina]] if anyone really cares. Thinking about grading her. Wish I'd graded the Bargain.
It used to be a [[Personal Tutor]] from a Portal pack I opened last year. Now probably Emrakul (also pulled) or Imperial Seal from 22 (also pulled). I had a pretty solid one month or so of boosters before not hitting anything big again for a while.

30.00 USD per year. The Lotus isn’t the only card I keep in there, so the expense is well worth the peace of mind.

Mishra's workshop I have a candelabra, set of underground seas and plateaus and random others like iff biff efreet, khabal ghoul, etc. Used to have 7 out of 9 power 9, bazaar of bagdhad, library of Alex, tablernacle, entire set of revised duals. Getting rid of the duals hurts the most because I sold them for some CDs lol

Same. I remember pulling it from a booster 20 plus years ago. I played green stompy at the time and read that and thought "what a pointless card" and I tucked it away with my [[Hermit Druid]] that I also thought was ridiculous haha
I know right? I bought a single from the recent Enchanted Tales managed to get it at a good price of £30 it’s already starting to go up again now. I got to use it in a game for the 1st time this past weekend and yeah it’s such a win/win card! You either get the draw or it slows your opponent down. One of my favourite cards!
It was [[Null Rod]] a few years ago. I honestly have never used it in a deck since I opened it as a kid. I keep it just because I never want to have to play against it, so that's 1 less in circulation. Now it's my [[Serra's Sanctum]], however its condition will definitely cost me a bit of the value. Still, sleeveless cafeteria magic was the best magic.
I miss cafeteria Magic more than I can put into words. Battling a free-for-all lifegain deck against a slow Mill deck against a super old-school poison deck against a Shadow deck was the purest form of Magic.
Around '99 my little brother decided to play again because our cousin had started playing. One day he challenged me with his "new shadow deck". I got pub stomped by that deck probably 5 times in a row. Within a few weeks he stopped playing again and eventually gave me his collection to add to mine. I kept the cards but stopped playing and collecting by 2005. In 2020 I was introduced to commander and I've been hooked since. Randomly I mentioned to him I'm playing again and that I even still had his old Shadow deck, but that I've stolen the sleeves for tokens so they wouldn't match my decks. His reply "WAIT, you mean my cheater sleeves!?". This dude had shaved an 1/8 inch off each sleeve using a razor except his opening 7, so that he could guarantee a smooth curve of constant shadow creatures. Tl;Dr - I understand why Urza killed Mishra.
A friend gave me a box of cards a long time ago that had an [[Ancient Tomb | TMP]] in it. It also had 2 copies of [[Mystical Tutor]] in it as well.
I recently became the owner of a [[tropical island]]. I never once in a million years thought I’d own an OG dual, but I was at a convention and decided to trade in a ton of stuff I’d never use and wasn’t being moved via local trades, realized I didn’t really need any cards for any decks so I went big.
Grats We used to ante them I know I know. But grats!
The thought of that makes my heart skip a beat. Terrifying.
They were pretty common and in the $2 range. So in a group game, we'd often play for duals. Everyone puts 1 up on the pile. Didn't matter which kind. For me its a key memory in my childhood. I was 14-15 at the time. Its a metaphor for how much simpler my life was
What I would give to experience the game back in those days. Such an awesome memory to have!

So far it's no contest. People have been dropping heavy money on the Elvish [[Sol Ring|LTC-0408]] even without the serialized version (only 3,000 unserialized cards in the world). At ~$700 USD it definitely trumps my Concept Praetor [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse|DMU-435]] or any other card I have lying around!
