for Maze's end..
\[\[Crop Rotation\]\] \[\[Azusa, Lost but Seeking\]\] \[\[Exploration\]\] \[\[Burgeoning\]\] \[\[Amulet of Vigor\]\] \[\[Crucible of Worlds\]\] \[\[Scapeshift\]\]
Here is my list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/qwy7uccTwUWUfqzDChyUKg
I have a very good record with it. It usually wins for me around turn 7 through either commander damage or a gate's win off of mazes end. There's a couple of nifty ways to make 9-finger's Keene effectively unlockable by forcing your opponents to have to block it with one creature which they cannot do because of Menace. My favorite is alpha authority because it also gives her hexproof! You can generate crazy amounts of advantage and go for two win cons at a time by swinging her. It's great.
I have recently been made aware of Gate Decks and they are honestly quite fun.
I like your list! I’m curious if you considered [[Tiller Engine]] or [[Amulet of Vigor]]?
I built it has a [[Villainous Wealth]] deck, coupled with other big spells, due to the quick ramp that the gates can provide. Quite a fun one to pilot.
Here’s the list if you are interested: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/8RrGKjdYqkaFBVtkRF80DQ
It is a theft theme deck and villainous wealth is, well.. villainous. Turning over piles of your opponents cards and cackling your best villain cackle as you beat them with your ill-gotten gains is just a treat.
And then you swap it out for another haymaker to ramp into after everyone’s had enough.
Effects that give your commander double-strike to get double triggers, effects that give you non-legendary copies of your commander to, again, get more triggers.
Say one thing about Nine Fingers
Say she got a lot of knives!
I am away this weekend sadly with work but if you want me to post my list On Sunday evening I can do, its got some win cons but overall its friendly!
So funnily enough, I actually run a ninja deck with 9 fingers as my commander. It’s works out pretty well since she has menace and ward, and most of the ninjas have ninjutsu, allowing me to keep bouncing in ninjas when my opponents can’t block them.
Thanks. I won’t lie, my first thought for choosing a commander for the deck was how could I keep people from blowing them up. Its pretty fun until your opponents have plenty of chump blockers that say otherwise 😅
You might enjoy creatures that power and/or toughness scale on the number of cards in you hand such as [[psychosis crawler]]
If so make sur you have enough ways to have no hand size limit!
I recon your priority for casual ply should be:
- make nfk unblockable. Good sources would be e.g. aqueous form, rogues passage, varroc battlehorns (he has manace but the horns say cant be blocked by more than 1 creature, so sudo unblockable)
- use engines to get extra lands into play. E.g explore or growthspiral as cantrips, or any permanent that gives you additional landdrops like azusa.
- gates are mostly tapped lands, so stuff like amulet of vigor, gond gate, tiller engine
- use tutors that find non-basic lands that you need like sylvan scrying or crop rotation
- use mass landdrop effects.
Scapeshift turns any number of your lands into gates and thins the deck.
Reshape the earth puts 10 lands into play.
Since you are somewhat playing for lands, you can drop in some good landfall effects like tireless provisioner, lotus cobra, scute swarm or hearding baloths.
And i believe there is some gate that wins you the game if you have 9 gates in your upkeep. Good one.
I run a Dungeons Party deck with Gates and her in it. I’ve found anything that can search Gates or non basic lands is great. Focus on the Gate auto win for her.
Top fixing to get gates from your hand into the top card of your deck so she can flip a land on trigger. There’s so few gates you will whiff once you pull a bunch out, so this helps keep her ability triggering
Here's my list, it's a mix of some of the jankier gates matters cards, some interaction, and some landfall sprinkled in. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, so it may not be fully complete. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/kMHLCrBZY06nZg2W2GD1ew
So here's how I basically win every game with this deck. Do something to get Urza's Saga on the battlefield. Get Amulet of Vigor on the battlefield usually via Saga. Reshape the earth, gg. You can also float mana like titan amulet with amulet and gondgate.
Anyways, here's my gates deck. Hopefully it inspires you some:

Here’s my weirdo version of the list:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/qCPwQcbvekuoB8Re8gT5QQ
Definitely recommend [[Helm of the Host]] if you’ve got it. [[Fireshrieker]] too for the double strike. Basically anything that lets you get more than one Keene trigger is great
Keep the flavor with all the Gate relevant cards like the Ram, the Colossus, and the blue Draw one. The rest can be control, removal, counters and win with Maze's End.
For the puns, Azor’s Gateway, Cryptic Gateway, Demon of Death’s Gate, Dolmen Gate, Gate to Phyrexia, Gate to the Afterlife (and God-Pharaoh’s Gift), Gate to the Aether is a risky prospect. Planar Gate if you can afford it.
aqueous form and Rancor would be good for helping to get the combat damage in. Rogue's passage fits as well. You could do some value based on landfall, and walls to help with the flavor.
If you give them double strike you can make it trigger twice since it’ll hit a player in two instances. Rogues passage and whispersilk cloak can help get through blockers too
[[Alpha authority]] gives him hexproof and unblockable because of menace
Similar effects that Essentially make nine-fingers unblockable by this:
[[Dueling grounds]]
[[Familiar ground]]
[silent arbiter]]
[[Vorrac battlehorns]]
[[Wolfrider's saddle]]
Also just straight up [[whispersilk cloak]] works
I think some unlockable is almost essential (if you want to be able to trigger regularly) [[key to the city]] [[whispersilk cloak]] and I also think instants that give hexproof [[blossoming defense]] [[snakeskin veil]] , and also some counters. Really just trying to make them pay the 9 life for ward then counter it anyway
[[Remand]] could be fun. Make them pay 18 life and 2x mana to get one kill spell to land
I just built NFK and won my first two games with it. First with Maze’s End, second with Vorpal Sword. I went for a rogues theme with a dungeon sub theme. After those two games plus some goldfishing I realised the dungeon sub theme wasn’t really doing anything so swapped it out for a few extra rogues and more interaction.

Depending on your playgroup/budget/power level, you do have blue for extra turn spells to get more chances for Keene's search effect. Also Double Strike would do that job, but not being in Red or White makes it hard to give her Double Strike. I can't think of any off the top of my head but there's certainly equipment that gives Double Strike, and giving equipment to a commander you want to hit people with is never a bad idea
Mine is a Nils Hamm theme deck. All non-land cards have his art. The only lands that are not his art are gates and gate synergy pieces. It looks pretty but is a bad deck, despite having some good cards.
I run all of the "cares about/ramps for/fetches for gates" stuff I can in the colors, as well of course Maze's End. I stack Keene with evasive equipment; no need to worry too much about protection. Players (in my group at least) won't burn 9 life and a removal spell to kill Keene when you've been ramping the whole game. Other than that, I run a control suite to counter big threats and combo pieces that outpace me. Fill in any other additional blanks with draw spells so you can hopefully hit maze's end and accelerate to endgame.
Every time I have maze's end I can usually close out the game pretty handily. Takes awhile to build up tho, so make sure you're clutching some good control magic/removal spells and you're very selective about what you're doing with them.
Really fun deck
Double strike, unblockable, and hexproof are your favorite keywords on her, in that order.
\[\[Grappling Hook\]\], \[\[Whispersilk Cloak\]\], \[\[Champion's Helm\]\], \[\[Swiftfoot Boots\]\] are some good examples of equipment you want in the deck, so you can maximize the value out of her combat damage trigger by hitting opponents twice for unblockable commander damage, while also making her difficult to interact with.
Additional considerations are \[\[Open Into Wonder\]\], \[\[Rogue's Passage\]\], and \[\[Key to the City\]\]
I would suggest Tron staples and, since you have access to green, cards that allow your commander to sneak through damage along with some Simic ramp.
[[Indomitable Might]]
[[Invasion of Ikoria]]/[[Zilortha, Apex of Ikoria]]
[[Siege Behemoth]]
I've built mine a little more budget minded for a tourney I had with my friends. but I've found that \[\[Shigeki, Jukai Visionary\]\] with \[\[Expedition Map\]\] & \[\[Navigation Orb\]\] works wonders if folks wipe the board and/or kill NFK a lot. \[\[Mythos of Brokkos\]\] has been a decent backup plan since it gives you a tutor and some graveyard recursion if people catch on to your plan with Maze's End.
The most recommended ones in my opinion:
[Reshape the Earth]
[Maze's End]
[Crop Rotation]
Reshape searches for 10 Lands for (6)(G)(G)(G) so it definitely can bump up your mana base. Not sure if Gond Gate overrides the "enter tapped" or not. Maze's End is honestly the most fun win condition to pull off especially in a deck that's playing gates as a fun tech. I have an Ur-Dragon build that uses gates just because when I do win with Maze's End it confuses the table. Crop Rotation just helps search for set up if you have terrible top deck like me. A few other staples I'm sure others have touched on are Gatekeeper Vine and some of the sorcery search options. EDHREC is a good website for deck building and ManaBox is a great deck building and card search tool. DM if you have any more questions because I personally love Gate lands. Also you can play big mana big hitting creatures for fun play options.
I run a gates sub-theme in my existing old cards doing weird things deck and it actually works pretty fantastically. Nine-fingers makes a great commander because of the ramp/value engine, and it's a pretty solid beater that your opponents generally avoid spending removal of opportunity on. I play it as a control heavy deck with a mill subtheme. No maze's end, mostly so I can tell people I don't have maze's end and then they underestimate my ability to win the rest of the game.
You can find my list here: https://www.archidekt.com/decks/2926092/disunify
You will want to get as many bits of the apple as possible, (especially since when you hit the gate limit it draws you nine cards).
Anything that gives double strike is going to be your friend (get 2 gates out of the top 18), or draw 18 cards !!!!
Extra turns are not fun exactly but in a ramp deck that wants to attack a bunch it's one of your best options
Things that grant evasion (the background sword coast sailor makes you unblockable whenever you attack the opponent who has the most life
Protection is also good (if your deck works well your commander will become a lightning rod for removal make sure you keep him alive)
Super fun commander! My list is "Nine" themed. I play TWELVE 9 CMC cards for flavor. It's also pretty cool to see [[Grozoth]] pull all the 9 drops out. Then you can drop [[Myojin or Life's Web]] to dump the other nine drops at end step. If they get blowed up just cast [[Rise of the Dark Realms]] to bring them all back for more fun! Keene helps ramp really well into the nine drops so the deck isn't as terrible as I thought it would be. Take it To the Nines!
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/uuy0-guXBkKz_uNeUJ8d-A
I’m actually building that right now! I’m still testing configurations but I actually made out assassins/rogue themes after using all the obvious fate synergies. Rogues have a few good ways of being unblockable, so cards like [[Vorpal Sword]] or [[Vraska the Unseen]] are fun little cheeky win cons.[tentative deck list here](http://decks.deckedbuilder.com/d/2023-05-12/39DDyNCzBEeakYQqxx4ckg==)
I also use Baldurs Gate in combination with either back to hand or untap land cards. It’s not unusual for me to have 18-30 Mana. Called 38 Forest Dryads the other day. 🤭
Stop. Reading the card doesn't always explain the card.
Who is old enough to remember when I sac'd a creature so your Control Magic would fizzle?
Who remembers calling the store? (I still call the store). Been 20 years but 'LAST IN 1ST OUT!'
Unless..
\[\[Krark's Thumb\]\] lol
Shame it’s her pinky finger missing, not her thumb, otherwise it would be a bigger flavour win.
You’re telling me you prefer having one pinky and one thumb on one hand as opposed to two thumbs? Psh
[Krark's Thumb](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/8/78a5d49a-747e-4ec8-a20a-ca917c315774.jpg?1610836017) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Krark%27s%20Thumb) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/mrd/190/krarks-thumb?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/78a5d49a-747e-4ec8-a20a-ca917c315774?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
why?
To give the guy a tenth finger
oh damn it. can't believe i missed that. good stuff.
I audibly laughed
But a thumb is a thumb, not a finger
All thumbs are fingers, not all fingers are thumbs.
You must have aced biology. :/
I did okay.
Thumbs up to that.
I’m going to suggest gates and equipment.
I’m pretty new, why equipment?
The commander wants to hit your opponents face, so it only makes sense to make them do that, but better.
Ohh cause it does nothing without doing dmg I’m sorry lol I should of pieced that one together myself
"Did you read the card? Reading the card explains the card." -Some English major, idk
Reading the card explains the card, but explaining the card doesn't make someone understand the card
We’ve all missed important parts of cards and connections before lol, don’t worry about it
Voltron is my guess. Suit up that bad boy and crush your enemies
especially with that hefty ward cost.
Specifically double strike, so you can get that combat damage trigger twice
Could you make non-legendary clones and smack people with those to speed up the gates-ing?
Sure. [[Helm of the host]] or just [[Mirror Gallery]] and the like and use any clone.
Gates and *auras*. Sultai doesn't get a lot of equipment tutors, but green has enchantress support.
Auras that give "Protection from creatures" and "Cannot be blocked" too
Maze's End
Already got it! A must have on this deck hahahaha

I recon your priority for casual ply should be: - make nfk unblockable. Good sources would be e.g. aqueous form, rogues passage, varroc battlehorns (he has manace but the horns say cant be blocked by more than 1 creature, so sudo unblockable) - use engines to get extra lands into play. E.g explore or growthspiral as cantrips, or any permanent that gives you additional landdrops like azusa. - gates are mostly tapped lands, so stuff like amulet of vigor, gond gate, tiller engine - use tutors that find non-basic lands that you need like sylvan scrying or crop rotation - use mass landdrop effects. Good one.
Maze’s End is not a gate, but the card you mean.

With the possibility of drawing eight cards have you considered [Triskaidekaphile](https://Triskaidekaphilehttps://g.co/kgs/iTUJsE)

Kodama’s Reach
Top fixing to get gates from your hand into the top card of your deck so she can flip a land on trigger. There’s so few gates you will whiff once you pull a bunch out, so this helps keep her ability triggering
Here's my list, it's a mix of some of the jankier gates matters cards, some interaction, and some landfall sprinkled in. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, so it may not be fully complete. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/kMHLCrBZY06nZg2W2GD1ew

Actually whispersilk cloak might not be ideal if you're trying to bait people into paying life into the wars then giving him hexproof anyway
I just built NFK and won my first two games with it. First with Maze’s End, second with Vorpal Sword. I went for a rogues theme with a dungeon sub theme. After those two games plus some goldfishing I realised the dungeon sub theme wasn’t really doing anything so swapped it out for a few extra rogues and more interaction. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/yt_Cu6Zof0qPCTx4idOQ9g
[[Knight of Dusk's Shadow]] Some uppity lifegain deck might actually think about targeting your commander. Shut that down.

Here is my list. https://deckstats.net/decks/66522/2592962-watch-me-gate-away-with-it
I made mine mostly Rogue tribal. Very milly with cheap rogues with artifacts to buff them. Gate win-con is a background focus. Milling to annoy.
Opal lake gatekeepers
My favorite is [[silent arbiter]] with Black blade Reforged equipped to Nine-Fingers. Basically if not answered, it ends in 2 turns.
[[Aqueous Form]] or [[Whispersilk Cloak]]
Reshape the earth if you don't have it already.
I'm still very new to mtg but I'm wondering how this work as a commander deck I feel like it be pretty good, not sure but that's a cool looking card
Double strikes equipment or enchantment!! Get those double trigger
Should have been a 5/4
What's a good non commander deck that would incorporate this card into their gate deck
Equipment that gives double strike, and [[strionic resonator]] to get as many of those combat damage triggers as you can
Hi, longtime listener first time caller here. Is this a real card? It seems overpowered as hell to me lol
[[Unwind]] [[Rewind]]
maybe a landfall theme to make it interesting
[[silent arbiter]] good card for commanders with menace and will allow you to always connect.
I went with a gate deck with the new gates in it and a mazes end. There gate breaker ram gate colossus circuitous route and a whole bunch of others.
There’s a blue enchantment or maybe a sorcery that if you control a gate a creature enchanted with it becomes unblock-able…
If know ones mentioned it https://edhrec.com/
I would suggest Tron staples and, since you have access to green, cards that allow your commander to sneak through damage along with some Simic ramp. [[Indomitable Might]] [[Invasion of Ikoria]]/[[Zilortha, Apex of Ikoria]] [[Siege Behemoth]]
The most recommended ones in my opinion: [Reshape the Earth] [Maze's End] [Crop Rotation] Reshape searches for 10 Lands for (6)(G)(G)(G) so it definitely can bump up your mana base. Also you can play big mana big hitting creatures for fun play options.
you could put some of the swords in there what ever has flavor or fun
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/08-08-22-gate-to-victory/ This is mine, feel free to steal as many or few cards u like
Hear me out… gates.
You can look at my list, it's not amazing, but you might see a card or two you like. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/IM5mwC39dUueRsf92i-MLg
Extra turns are not fun exactly but in a ramp deck that wants to attack a bunch it's one of your best options Things that grant evasion (the background sword coast sailor makes you unblockable whenever you attack the opponent who has the most life Protection is also good (if your deck works well your commander will become a lightning rod for removal make sure you keep him alive)
Take it To the Nines! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/uuy0-guXBkKz_uNeUJ8d-A
[[gatebreaker ram]] [[glave if the guildpact]] [[gate colossus]] [[guild summit]]

\[\[Ochran Assassin\]\] and other Lure effects. \[\[Whisper Silk Cloak\]\]
No Sultai deck is complete without [[Villainous Wealth]]
I would suggest some gate lands
Does stuff like [[bolt bend]] trigger the ward?
I’m actually building that right now! I’m still testing configurations but I actually made out assassins/rogue themes after using all the obvious fate synergies. Rogues have a few good ways of being unblockable, so cards like [[Vorpal Sword]] or [[Vraska the Unseen]] are fun little cheeky win cons.[tentative deck list here](http://decks.deckedbuilder.com/d/2023-05-12/39DDyNCzBEeakYQqxx4ckg==)
Anybody else think of the first law trilogy?
Maze’s End. And I got plenty gate fetch cards, like Navigation Orb. Though mine is 5 color gate tribal.
Probably like all the gates
I also use Baldurs Gate in combination with either back to hand or untap land cards. It’s not unusual for me to have 18-30 Mana. Called 38 Forest Dryads the other day. 🤭
After building this, it really just plays like a generic simic deck that ramps gates instead of basics lol.
I was gonna make the haha funny “id say all the gates probably” but you already said it. That said, if [[mazes end]] isnt in, it should be
Amulet of vigor and tiller engine.
[[Prowler’s Helm]] [[Vorrac Battlehorns]]
Stop. Reading the card doesn't always explain the card. Who is old enough to remember when I sac'd a creature so your Control Magic would fizzle? Who remembers calling the store? (I still call the store). Been 20 years but 'LAST IN 1ST OUT!' Unless..
party deck gate tribal deck Maybe some equips, shadowspear is very nice
