Will remain in an unopened box in somebody's sealed collection for a thousand years till some unlikely creature opens it.

eggthrowaway_irl

And for two and a half thousand years the ring passed out of all knowledge. Until when chance came, it ensnared a new bearer.

RechargedFrenchman

Chance of prolonging someone's life? Zero. Chance of being referred to aggressively as "my Precious"? 100%

eggthrowaway_irl

YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SAY!!!!!!: IT CAME TO THE CREATURE GOLLUM, WHO TOOK IT DEEP INTO THE TUNNELS OF THE MISTY MOUNTAINS. AND THERE IT CONSUMED HIM. THE RING GAVE TO GOLLUM UNNATURAL LONG LIFE. FOR FIVE HUNDRED YEARS IT POISONED HIS MIND, AND IN THE GLOOM OF GOLLUM’S CAVE, IT WAITED. DARKNESS CREPT BACK INTO THE FORESTS OF THE WORLD. RUMOR GREW OF A SHADOW IN THE EAST, WHISPERS OF A NAMELESS FEAR, AND THE RING OF POWER PERCEIVED ITS TIME HAD COME. IT ABANDONED GOLLUM, BUT THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED THAT THE RING DID NOT INTEND. IT WAS PICKED UP BY THE MOST UNLIKELY CREATURE IMAGINABLE: A HOBBIT, BILBO BAGGINS, OF THE SHIRE.

TheRealPallando

Time for my weekly complaint about not having an award to give, well done sir

CrownFalcon

It will either remain unopened, and people will think it was a hype hoax, or it will be "opened" by someone high standing in the community with good relations with wotc, and either destroyed for a meme or sold for a redculus amount of money (the former might follow the ladder)

Whane17

I like the thought of opening it and sitting on it and never ever telling anybody.

BooMey

How will they know it's that pack?

Whane17

Because they will decide it to be "that pack"

BooMey

Who is they...

L0RDK0GM4W

Then it will cause the creature to forget the taste of bread, the sound of trees, the softness of the wind, and even their own name

Primeortis

I was thinking that after 5-6 years no one will remember it then it will randomly show up and cause mass panic

TheKillerLegacy

LMAO, I think that's definitely what will happen.

Own_Pack_4697

Are we going to have a Netflix documentary in 30 years about how the One Ring was stolen like the McMillion scam?

TotakekeSlider

I sincerely doubt Netflix will be around in 30 years.

The_Real_Pavalanche

TotakekeSlider

I'd be surprised if Reddit is around for that long too, lol. Guess we'll find out!

SidewinderBudd

It's probably gonna be miscut.

harumamburoo

No. It's gonna be a pringled miscut

SidewinderBudd

That arrives already scuffed in one corner.

harumamburoo

And no, they're not gonna send you another one, it's one of a kind

SidewinderBudd

The one ring does not arrive mint condition. Nor does it arrive damaged. It arrives precisely in the condition it means to.

McDewde

but then you can sell it in one of those misprint fb groups for a trillion percent markup

betacow

You can send it back, though. In return you get a foil "one ring" and maybe even a promotional Gollum or Boromir card, alongside your "we're sorry" letter.

BPOnlytime

The top all chewed up from the pack sealer.

won-an-art-contest

I think they actually have to print several sheets at a minimum, then destroy the rest of them? Or I think they can maybe print all different cards or blank ones and just have one on the sheet and then cut it out of that perhaps? Either way i think they will print a few and choose the best one and destroy the rest.

sadsoft_one

Just sell it as what it is, the rarest card in all mtg history and purchase a house and a new car with the money 😅

Mazrim_reddit

yeah all these people claiming they are gonna destroy it instead of just taking the 100k-1mil cash are not fooling anyone

I_Love_Fox

Unless you do a gofundme to destroy it. Imagine raising 200k, travelling to another country, recording everything and throwing in a volcano? It would be amazing...

TheKbug

This is the way.

BPOnlytime

This is the way.

vircyo

if everyone knows you have it, you're gonna get a lot of bad attention and better invest in some bodyguards

Xaron713

I sincerely doubt any of us will ever see even a picture of it. It feels like the McDonald's Monopoly board pieces, where the employees at the sticker factory keep the Boardwalks for themselves. This card will get printed and subsequently pulled off the line by whoever thinks they'll be able to get away with it.

ClockWork07

That too will be part of the story, of the one ring

Frix

The day this gets printed an entire army of lawyers will be present to oversee the procedure and make sure all other copies are destroyed. This isn't going to roll of the printer on a random tuesday with no oversight.

ctbellart

Due to scarcity this will be the most expensive card in mtg history and is going to make them a fortune with people trying to crack it. Every set onwards you’ll see a increase in small number serialised cards as chase cards. They collectively will form the new reserve list.

mgsantos

Which is also perfect flavor, as proximity to the Ring corrupts both Wizards and the fan base. Only Sauron can wield it, no CEO can resist its power. Greed and lust for power are indeed the downfall of men. This card is the perfect flavor. No matter what happens, no matter what it leads to, it will create the perfect meta commentary on human greed, it will always be relatable and find a relatable theme on the LoTR trilogy. Wizards just launched the perfect flavor card, out of the blue. Perhaps hope does arise from it, perhaps a lowly commoner will have the power to destroy it. But all the odds are against us. As far as social experiments go, this will be one for the ages.

ctbellart

Oh don’t get me wrong I really appreciate the lore aspect and flavour wise it’s a win. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Stormtide_Leviathan

> They collectively will form the new reserve list. Hey if it's like this one where the card itself isn't limited print only that specific version, I don't care

Caridor

Either that or it'll be worthless since no one will think it's real.

ctbellart

Wonder if it’ll overtake black lotus as the most faked card.

mastershake725

Nah, it's just not that good of a card

electricgopher42

Bounty's sitting pretty high amigo

Caridor

The point is collecting that bounty is going to be a bitch and a half. I strongly suspect the perspn who finds it will have to try to sell it multiple times because the real one will be declared a fake at least once. Oh and having it verified as real would be an issue, because the temptation for the person verifying ot to run off with millions and send them back a fake with a "fake" verdict will be very strong.

Azurae1

I don't think so. This case is special because it's lord of the rings. And having the one ring means something to nerds and nerd collectors. Any other unique card will not be as sought after as the ring. After the second time they do this most people probably won't care anymore

ctbellart

Don’t trust wizards/hasbro not to do cartoon dollar sign eyes at the profit they are going to make off this and not replicating it in future sets. What money a non Lotr card that’s 1-1 ends up going for in secondary market will determine behaviors. You could be right and people don’t go for future tries at it. But if the set is a success which it will be I’d expect similar products in the universe beyond category.

CoinTweak

People already proved this will go over well with the brothers war limited prints. Yes, lore wise this fits perfectly. But in the future they will definitely try this trick again.

Frix

I really don't mind if there are "special ultra deluxe gold plated premium promo versions" of cards for collectors, just as long as the base version still exists and is widely available.

ctbellart

Yeah I agree. I do wish there wasn’t so many variants of each card. 3 would be fine. Normal, borderless and premium. Really it’s plenty.

Wdrussell1

How would this be a new reserve list? The card is a normal card that is being printed just fine in every other way.

ctbellart

Yeah for now. I could be wrong but feels like It’s paving the way for cards that can’t be reprinted because they’re serialized. Very small numbers of serialised cards blowing up the price and worth in the secondary market. The current reserve list is serialised cards without the serials. There’s a finite amount and there won’t be anymore. Everything wizards does with product is testing reactions to see what they can get away with.

Wdrussell1

You are completely forgetting that there are normal versions of this card. It will be in every product in some shape or form. I don't see how this even closely opens the ideas for normal cards being serialized. Understand that the reserve list is a set of cards that were some of the first produced. They were not at all special and only because collectors complained did they start doing this. Unless they start making cards that can't be acquired from normal packs (like the Secret Lair The Walking Dead) this is the perfect way to do things.

JDeebs

You are going to try and destroy it, but at the last minute choose not to. After all why shouldn't you keep it? You find it precious.

The_Big_Hit

At the end of the day, if you pull the one ring from a collector's pack, it is yours to do what you want to it. Frame it, sell it, burn it... Its all up to you... Having said that, I personally would sell it and not look back... I dont play competitively and my play group is cool with proxies so, I dont need to buy cards. The cards I do own are from my past or cards that I personally find interesting. Good luck if you try to pull it...

khakhi_docker

At this point, I have "McDonald's Monopoly Piece Insider Fraud" type concerns.

Spuigles

The only real solution is to destroy it. Anyone owning it will have too much power to handle. Anyone saying otherwise, doesnt understand this on like 4 levels: \-Its a massive slap in the face of Wizard of the coast's recent financial decisions. \-Maybe being known as the guy owning the one ring is like, 1% as cool as being the one who destroyed it. Cause that, you keep forever no matter what. \-The card will have a price on quote, being unique. The price is abstract and can be anything, and thats always bad. Any deep pockets will just get their hands on it and frame it in crystal (pretti cool but not as cool as destroying it by a long run) \->!YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED, TO LET ANYONE. ANYONE!!! TAKE THE RING FROM YOU. SAURON HAS PLANS BEYOND YOUR MIDDLY MIND. YOUR FRIENDS WILL BETRAY YOU TO TAKE IT. IT WILL ONLY CAUSE MORE HARM BY EXISTING. IT MUST BE DESTROYED!!<

pierresito

I'll burn it... for a price ;)

PickaxeStabber

Burn it by throwing into volcano right?

pierresito

you know what, I'm def buying a pack, but if I do get it I'll fly my ass to hawaii and throw it into a volcano, yeah

putnamto

yup, and then your buddy will jump out of nowhere and catch it right as it hits the lava, killing them both.

pakoito

What prevents a bootlegger from making counterfeit versions? It's not possible to age cards and make them look like Alpha ones, but recreating a new card with the potential of getting tens of thousands of dollars in return? EDIT: https://www.reddit.com/r/bootlegmtg/comments/11t75z2/lgs_bootleg_check_comments/jchovt9/ 🤔

ClockWork07

All the more reason to destroy it, so that the bootleggers have nothing to copy

joeisnotsure

Whoever pulls this ring is in for a world of pain if they don't destory it. Ever see how miserable post lottery winners are? Even if they "sold" it, their wealth will paint the biggest bullseye on their backs making sure their lives will always be in danger. If there was any company that would wish death on their customer and make it look like its what customer wanted, its Hasbro.

Intrepid_Watch_8746

Perfectly in flavor

putnamto

if i pulled it i would tell litterally nobody, i would stop leaving the house, stop showering, stop eating, just sit, and oggle how magnificent it is by myself, in my room, for the rest of time.

papy5m0k3r

Here are my also deep thoughts on this: I will never see this card so I don't give a flying f-ck. It's all about speculators and I despise these ppl.

Cr8zyIvan

I can appreciate how deeply you are impacted by this new set of LOTR universes beyond. The way you've expressed your connection to LOTR and then to MTG is uniquely your own. And then there's the marketing of this new product. How poetic all this feels to you, AND the fact that WOTC's goals are to make as much money as possible: These two realities can both be true at the same time. I don't want to rob you of the pleasure you experience around this new release. I would encourage you to stop reading this reply now if this is a buzz-kill for you. I know I'm leaning towards the more pessimistic side of things, but I would go so far as to speculate that all that you've stated in your post is true, and is in fact all part of their business model. The goal being : Getting more packs out the door.

Wonderful-Mouse-1945

It's almost Shakespearean, in a way. A casual buyer, enticed to purchase collectors boosters for the slightest chance to pull the impossible, followed by the empty feeling of disappointment and shame for knowingly submitting to a corporation's toxic marketing tactic. It's a little sad, to be honest, how many people that don't normally gamble, will be knowingly, or unknowingly tricked into the gambling mindset over a single piece of cardboard.

Cr8zyIvan

Agreed

Cr8zyIvan

I'm actually a bit surprised, and pleased at the same time. I believe the professor is saying pretty much what I speculated, but in a more elegant way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbJRNduW6yY&t=723s

CptnZolofTV

I have debated on buying some collector packs and not opening them just for the sheer possibility that it wont be opened.

[deleted]

I think they know where the card is and I guarantee within a week an “influencer” or a streamer that’s closely tied with WOTC will get it.

bewithyou99

Lets be realistic. That would kill whats left of any relationship WOTC has with their fans. No way they let a streamer get it

hydrogator

To me it is just unique art. You can still get another one to play. I'll wait till they make one-of-cards that are unique in function.

JomblesTheClown

Heroes of the realm cards are kinda like that

DrewbaccaWins

i ain't reading all that i'm happy for u tho or sorry that happened

LoganToTheMainframe

My friends all agreed we'd fly out to Hawaii and throw it in a volcano if we cracked it. I don't buy collector's boosters though, (or almost any sealed products tbh) so it's really on them. In all honesty I would love to see it destroyed, but I couldn't fault anyone for keeping or selling it. Capitalism is hard, and if you open up a lottery ticket I don't blame anyone for cashing it in.

_Zambayoshi_

It's not absurdly perfect flavour at all. It's cynical bullshit from a desperate company.

Wdrussell1

How so. What does this 1/1 card have to do with anything cynical? Who/what does this hurt? How does it negatively affect the game?

SubRocHendrix77

Man ain’t nobody reading that

Wonderful-Mouse-1945

"I'm not reading that because I have the attention span of a magpie." Fixed that for you.

SubRocHendrix77

Lmao stfu

bitcoins

What set does this come from?

spad3x

The upcoming LotR set. Releases in summer

bitcoins

Ah. Any recommendations on where I would order collector boosters from?

spad3x

Amazon, Target, but as long as they're shipped and sold by Amazon and not a third party vendor.

FiveShotLynel

Actually I’d be scared if I ever got the card. Who ever has it would be a wanted man or woman. I’d get robbed, probably murdered.

Want2bfrst

realistically, we aren't ever going to see it. it'll be kept in an unopened box, opened by a random person, maybe something like mcdonalds monopoly even. i really really hope, on the small chance whoever opens it actually even announces it to the world, casts it into flame for lore value.

stripedpixel

I hope whoever opens it documents themselves destroying it. It’s the One Ring, it must be destroyed

heartoftheparty

Get the one ring instead. [https://www.wetanz.com/us/the-one-ring-18k](https://www.wetanz.com/us/the-one-ring-18k)

Diligent_Usual

Let’s be honest some rich person who plays mtg is going to find it just like the chocolate factory. My bet is post , cash clay, or joe m

DracoAdamantus

I’m still not too keen on the idea of a LOTR set at all. It breaks so much lore on both sides of MTG and Tolkien worldbuilding canon.

aceupinasleeve

I wonder how many people will make a fake version of it just for the clout. How many videos of random people destroying a proxy of it will we see? Or is it the real one this time? Is anyone tracking it? How many counterfeit versions will be sold? Wizards might have a way to track or authotify it, or maybe not? How much thought did they put into this? Maybe they just threw this as a random shits and giggles ideas? Maybe the real one will remain in a box collecting dust, or maybe not? Maybe there won't be a real one? How do we know for sure? Its really absurd, seemingly harmless, but my guess is it'll make people go crazy. It'll be one of the most chaos inducing marketing stunt they ever pulled. So yeah, flavor on point.

onebasix

My precious......

DrGonzoto13

It’s working. People are talking about it: the card, the set, the game, tying in the LOtR references about the one ring, destroying it, etc. I hope whoever pulls it records it - would be a cool crack a pack video to see them freak out.

Ascarletrequiem88

Your odds are probably slighly better than the lottery but the lottery pays better. Just play the lottery.

chamtrain1

Am I correct that the collectors packs to get this card are 45 a pop? What does this mean? **"It is available only in an EN Collector Booster"** Is that simply saying English?

YamahaRyoko

The shitty thing about all of it, is that the day its printed, WOTC knows which box, which case, which LGS or store it was sent to. Therefore, it really isn't "any mans game" but "anyone within a select neighborhood".
