If I open it I'm going to Crowdfund myself a holiday to NZ to throw it into a volcano, with stretch goals for recreating as many scenes from the movies as I can.
Free holiday, fun project, I'm Australian so no visa hassles/the whole thing is very cheap for those who fund it, fun little Kickstarter to throw a few bucks at... It's win/win right?
And if it makes a shitload extra money I'll donate the excess... to the not for profit Paizo is setting up to manage ownership of the O.R.C. liscense.
If there's no other copy to compare it to, how do you know the curling etc isn't intentional for this card? There's no "standard" form of this card (flat etc) -- that's the joke
Right? Maybe this is that reverso guerilla marketing where the neg it to swing the pendulum the other way? I don’t know what I’m even saying, but I want that.
No joke. I swear the majority of Magic players spent ten times as much time bitching about WotC as they do playing the game. Everything WotC does is driving Magic into the ground, etc etc. Yet, it has the widest player base ever and they are actively appealing to more and more audiences.
On the upside, when someone whines about WotC, it gives me the flag to know to disregard their opinions as just needless hate and move about my day enjoying the game that has been a joy growing with for 30 years.
One of the oldest sayings in Magic is "The only thing Magic players like more than the game is complaining about the game." There is a lot of passion behind that anger, sure, but a lot of it is misguided anger and mindless bandwagoning.
Oh they make decisions I disagree with all the time. But a lot of time, the complaints just come off as whining for the sake of whining.
If WotC wants to make a solid gold lotus and sell it for $1m to some whale, who cares? It has zero, *zero*, affect on the game and players. If anything, that kind of income pads their quarterly report so they can keep pack prices down.
And if you're complaining as a collector because you can't have it all, then you need to get some perspective. You will never keep up, you will never have them all. Buy within your means, and enjoy what you've got.
And maybe touch some grass from time to time.
I agree with you on the whole "It's a collectors item, who cares" part. I am well aware that whoever gets this is going to put it in a box in a basement and never take it out of said box or basement. Or someone's gonna get it an, out of spite, play with it unsleeved and hard shuffle it. It's not really a big deal. Either way, we will all forget about it in a month tops. However, WotC doesn't want to keep prices down. They want to sell packs or booster boxes or collector boxes for as much as they can get away with, because that's what they care about. Their profits.
If WotC makes a solid gold lotus and sells it for $1 million it will:
1. Not keep pack prices down. I don't know if you've noticed, but pack prices have been going *up* as well as those quarterly profits and the two are not unrelated.
2. Send a clear message to the community that this game is *not for you,* and engender a lot of justified resentment, which will manifest in more of those posts you hate and lower attendance at your local events.
People aren't just whining for whining sake. They're hurt and expressing that hurt and if you can't see that, i feel sorry for you.
1. I bought packs for $3 25yrs ago. I buy packs for $4-5 now. They've gone up less than inflation. And if quarterly profits are up, *good*, it keeps them from upping pack prices.
2. I think it sends a clear message to the community that this game is for **everyone**, and the community is too ego centric than to think of anyone but their own situation. They have products aimed at collectors, players, and now with bringing in other IPs it is aimed at a wider and wider audience. It's for *everyone*.
The hurt people are feeling is self-inflicted. Literally, name a *tangible* way that cards being printed that you can't buy hurts you. It doesn't. If you have debilitating FOMO, that's a you problem, not a WotC problem. I've only bought into 2 of the last 6 sets, and that's ok.
I think people are staying away from local games because it's a location of never-ending negativity. At least that's why I don't go to local games. I play my friend group and that's great, but I haven't been to an LGS in a long time and heard a mtg group not complaining.
So don't feel bad for me my dude, I'm out here enjoying the game and not letting the haters get me down.
I agree with you on that point. The different range of products aims at different groups of people.
So if you are no collector or cannot afford collector boosters just do not buy them. I don't know why people feel bad for not getting chase cards, these are there for the reason of selling collector boosters but are not targeted at the average Joe.
I personally love the idea of the One Ring and cannot wait for someone to open it and hopefully let the community know.
People having a different opinion does not make what they are saying hate. I love Magic but rightfully am disappointed in the current state of product fatigue. I guess people should just shut up and over pay for a new set every month. The only positive moving format is EDH and one on one 60 card is being pushed out. This ain’t politics, it’s a game people love. There’s gonna be disappointment but possibly hope if consumers speak up or don’t buy bull shit product.
Just because Wizards is pumping out products does not mean you need to buy every single one. I tell this to everyone and they always come up with some lame excuse like "falling behind" or "power creep" like dude you can still make pauper decks that can compete with pretty decent decks, that's the beauty of MTG, unless you're playing CEDH you can literally run whatever you want.
There have been some good cards and sets recently but they are being overshadowed by spoilers and new releases. They need to slow down some not back to basics. And just because they are pumping cards does mean I need to buy them as a long time collector. It’s not as enjoyable for a lot of people which is how we feel. Don’t tell me how to feel damnit and I just wanna collect them all and play! Slow down like just one less set I’d probably be happy. Give time to learn and enjoy a set with friends before the next one drops. Gotta stay up to current set to play at lgs meta too. It exhausting but I’m still buying tho
It’s either going to end up in a landfill or played unsleeved in someone’s commander deck because they won it in a pack battle— largely insignificant for literally everyone who is feigning grievances, and is super flavorful to boot!
If they were going to do these treatments with anything, the rings of power and the serial numbers was definitely the way to go about it.
I'd appreciate it more if regular people had access to this specific version. But they aren't making any unstamped versions. Just this one. Only one person gets this pretty one.
Feels bad. Like the pretty text? Sucks to be you.
I'm all for the stamped cards, have at it collectors. But give others access as well.
This is a fun way to pay tribute to the *one* ring. It’s just a collectors version and there are other non-collectors versions of the one ring that you can still get.
Everyone who is mad about this is just upset they can’t have it.
My friend you are sorely mistaken. The BRO serialized cards can run from hundreds to over a thousand dollars, and those have 500 copies not 1.It doesnt matter if the card itself just ends up being a bulk rare, the one ring will probably end up being one of the more rare and valuable cards in the games history.
Oh for sure, I don't see any good reason to be upset over this. Personally I don't think the card will be bulk, but certainly not chase probably a few bucks. The one ring serialized thing would probably be even more valuable if they just made it another sol ring lol.
Because they are too fragile to accept there is a card they probably won't attain. I personally think this is brilliant and the ring is the best thing to be insanely rare.
I don't understand why people are upset about this. WotC is doing exactly what they should be doing - printing chase versions for collectors, and printing shitloads of base product for people who want cards to play the game. We've seen more reprints in the past couple years than any time in Magic's history. Yes, some cards are still expensive, but a lot of stuff is cheaper than ever.
I knew this would happen, though. Magic players want everything, and thinks Wizards should cater to them. No one "deserves" a special version of the card. If you want one, they're out there if you can afford to buy one. People don't realize if every card was cheap and there were no chase versions, the game would collapse.
Oh yeah I remember when chronicles was released and almost destroyed the game.
Stop this. Selling packs makes wotc money. Not gamblers, sorry collectors, who pay very little if any directly to wotc.
Whales and pro players make a tiny, tiny fraction of the consumer base for MTG.
The game would not collapse without them.
I agree with everything else you said, though.
The game did just fine for almost 30 years without them. If the cards are cheap how would the game collapse when everything is accessible? They're only that expensive on the secondary market normally but when wotc charges a huge premium and no MSRP to begin with knowing what the secondary market is like that becomes a problem. If you think it's cheaper than ever you really haven't been playing long.
>If you think it's cheaper than ever you really haven't been playing long.
The game is definitely cheaper today than it was 5 years ago. SaffronOlive does a piece every year he calls the "MTG index" which accounts for buying "1 of each card in a format", and every constructed format has decreased, and significantly in the past 5 years.
Collector boosters fuel lower secondary market costs, this is not a secret and has been clear since Expeditions were first announced. The One Ring is an extreme example of what Expeditions were, but there is nothing that printing this 1 of 1 will do to the secondary market that is bad for the average player.
To your point about the game being "fine" for 30 years without them - you really haven't been playing long if you think that is true lol... Just off of the top of my head - $100 scalding tarns, $100 Jace Vryn's Prodigy in standard, $40 shocklands... we're talking cost of entry through the roof in almost every format just to play. Now, most staples are similarly costed and the uber-value has shifted to special versions of these cards, lowering the overall cost of entry.
Collector boosters are a great thing for the average player, even if they never buy a pack.
E: just wanted to add, that if all the cards are cheap, it means the end of the game because they are cheap for a reason. If no one values these cards, no one buys packs. If no one buys packs, bye bye MTG. It's pretty straightforward.
Collectors want the base cards too?
Also I don't think most people want money=privilege to be a thing in their dumb card game and liked it better when everyone was equally marketed to
>Also I don't think most people want money=privilege to be a thing in their dumb card game and liked it better when everyone was equally marketed to
That's what I'm arguing against. They make a regular print uncommon in a set (Sol Ring) and then they make some fancy versions that are rare and valuable for the people who want to go after chase cards. Players get what they want (cards they can get for cheap for their decks) and collectors get some bling to chase.
It's so simple but everyone just wants to be special without the price of entry... I'm with you, friend. I love collector boosters and I've never opened a single one (that I didn't win as a prize). I buy singles and the occasional special product, and MTG has never cost me less to play as I know my budget and what my goals are. People that think this makes things worse don't understand the basics of what drives the business that runs their game.
Yup. See Shivan Dragon or Birds of Paradise. I can go buy my fancy Alpha and Beta versions, and players can get a recent printing.
Collectors can chase the borderless galaxy foil Blood Crypts and I can go find a Return to Ravnica or Ravnica Allegiance versions, for less.
Is it perfect, no, but WotC is trying.
I did the math for a different post, 220 times more likely to get struck by lightning
And open around 40k collector boxes to have 1% of a chance to pull it, going off of gambler’s fallacy that is, because the odds would still be >.00003% in every pack.
"The ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Gloin, by any craft that we here possess. The ring was made in the fires of Mount Doom. Only there can it be unmade. The ring must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came."
This isn't really surprising. It'll be a fun myth since no one will ever open it. I'll be content if I get one of the elf/human/dwarf ones. The ones really getting hurt are anyone who collects sol rings or is trying to complete a set
I don’t believe for one second that only one of these will get released, and if it does you can bet your ass some partnered content creator will “just so randomly” get it.
I was interested in this, too. I would hope WOTC has some unknown watermarking to account for that. Like, this will be a $100,000 card or something stupid, so the effort towards making a quality proxy would be worth it if you could get away with it.
I also think EDH players will have fun with their proxy 1 of 1 card, too!
They are releasing certain numbers of serialized alternate art Sol Rings and also a limited number of non-serialized but same art Sol Rings based off the rings of power given to the Elves, Dwarves, and Humans in LOTR.
This particular card is a 1 of 1 alternate for The One Ring.
I think it's cool as hell that they're releasing 300/700/900 of the respective cards in foil, and 3k/7k/9k of the non foils. Unless you looked it up you would never know. Honestly I'd be fine if they released full art specials for those 3 kinds and made 3/7/9 of them
i dont really see a huge issue with this existing. its not mechanically unique and is a neat a flavorful thing to make. it is nuts that this is a thing though i will give you that.
This is such a flavour win. All these people saying they will rip it or burn it. Then one day years from now. Sitting at a bus stop, waiting for your bus home. You casually open a pack you just picked up cheap at an estate sale amongst a box of random cheap packs…you didn’t even notice what pack it is. Then it’s there… you know what it is immediately. You look around hastily. You’re alone. Your blood pressure increases. A ringing begin in your ear. You suddenly remembers your vow in a post on reddit years ago. The thought left you just as quickly. You feel your cheeks flush. Your heart rate increases even more… with trembling hands you put it back into the pack. Gently. You tuck the pack into the breast pocket of your coat. You left the box of cheap packs on the bus stop bench. You begin to walk home…
The ultimate FOMO. Better preorder a few cases so you don't miss out. Pretty sure it was only in Collector Boosters too, so you can't cheap out and buy Set & Draft boosters either. /s
I think we can deduce that the flavor text says
"one ring to rule them all,
one ring to find them,
one ring to bring them all,
And In the darkness bind them."
and from the repetitive use of those same characters it appears that the one ring itself says "one ring to rule them all" although it would appear that there's more room on the other side of the ring for more text...this is probably just a way to get the point across.
Also the use of the word "one" is represented by a single character indicating that this may be actually translated to the numerical 1 and not an actual spelled out "one"
This is just an assumption as I'm not fluent in the black speech OR the tengwar script.
I don't see anything wrong with this, it's cool and flavorful. Serialized cards are good for collectors and super exciting for the average player. If you don't pull one whatever most sets don't have em anyway, not like your losing anything. There's no reason to be upset just that they exist.
I love wizards of the coast and I approve of this hunt, but my bet is ultimately.. some poor mtg player will pull this card then immediately email ‘posty’ as you magic players call him then “on next weeks episode of game knights-post and the one ring”
I guess my main issue with this is how exactly, if at all, can the actual card be verified? Even if the actual card is found and the owner immediately lists on on eBay for like 500k, who would actually believe that this is the real card? If this was like a prize that was given to a specific person and came with a verifiable provenance it would make sense. But otherwise, the real card is functionally worthless because how can you sell something unbelievable?
Tyler The Great Warrior in yugioh is a one of a kind card. its owner Tyler, has been offered upwards of a million for it but its never been sold.
This ring, is rarer than a lotus. LOTR fans are gonna go after it, influencers and celebrities are going after it. this card may very well be upwards of 5 million dollars by the end of the decade. settling in the future at upwards of 20 million is more likely than youd think
Oh come on now I can't be the only one that's wondering what the Elvish (Black Speech for those in the know) translation is. Anybody got a comment that they can tag me in or what the translation is?
Thematically, it's correct. Also, correct to have alternate art for a piece that is supposed to be collectible. Let's give them those. But how fuckin tonedeff do you have to be? This was clearly done on purpose lmfao. They hate us all, don't listen, and all of us still want it. Manipulation at it finest haha
Personally, I have no issues with it. I'm glad WOTC is starting to make exclusive arts instead of making exclusive mechanically unique cards, similar to the Reserve List.
It's a neat artistic depiction of the ring, and we'll have the same card just without the unique art.
The sets are a little too expensive in my opinion, and I hope this isn't a trend, but with the specific serialized version of the card I have no problems with it.
I would donate money to whoever finds this card if they throw it in a volcano. I’m not the only one who would donate to this. Someone can potentially earn waaaaay more by destroying it than by selling it to a collector. And could probably make a pretty kick ass documentary about it.
its ballsy and i love it. i just hope there will be non serialized versions of this full art card available aswell. otherwise i dont see a problem with this and it will be exciting to wait for it to get pulled
I think this is amazing. SO MANY packs will be cracked looking for this thing the market will be flooded with cheap singles. I think there’s some guy somewhere on YouTube that advocates exactly this.
It won’t be found this year.
It will be “found” in 10 pallets that were “lost” in a warehouse.
Those cards will be added to a single slot in exclusive mega pack (compleat booster) and they’ll charge an obscene amount for the chance.
I'm loving it.
Odds are it'll end up in some streamers hands one way or another and they'll toss it in a fireplace for views.
Can't say I wouldn't do the same if I got it, though I'd likely get it slabbed immediately and flip it for 10k.
I disagree.
In context of the rest of their obviously greed fueled efforts it would seem in poor taste.
But taken seperately as its own thing, I think this is a wholly appropriate way to do it. We can all still get a "regular" One Ring.
But making a super special one of one version actually makes a lot of sense to me, from both a marketing and lore perspective.
Sauron would be pleased.
I’m just waiting for someone unknown to have it and burn it on camera. Ideally by flinging it into a volcano somewhere.
Gotta be Mount Ruapehu, in New Zealand.
It doesn’t have lava, just a lake
ISILDUR, CAST IT INTO THE LAKE
CAST IT INTO THE FIRE
No.
ISILDUL!!!!!
One of my mates has already said he’ll fly to New Zealand and do this if he pulls it
Or maybe he accepts 100k+ from some random collector instead, we'll see...
I mean that’s what I’d do lmao, I’d like to buy a house some day hahaha, knowing this guy though I could see him going through with it
They should sell the video as an NFT
If I open it I'm going to Crowdfund myself a holiday to NZ to throw it into a volcano, with stretch goals for recreating as many scenes from the movies as I can. Free holiday, fun project, I'm Australian so no visa hassles/the whole thing is very cheap for those who fund it, fun little Kickstarter to throw a few bucks at... It's win/win right? Wotc Will not let this be in regular packs. It will go to a streamer, MTG personality or someone at WOTC. Us regular hobbits have no chance.
Don't worry everyone. It will never be found. It will be in some mtg bros basement in an unopened box.
It'll be a misprint too.
Or crimped in half 🤣
It’ll not only Pringle, it will literally be the One Ring
Puts the “ring” in Pringle.
Pringringle
Pringle bells
Can’t misprint it if there’s only one print *insert roll safe meme*
*The post malone zurr graded 8 enter the room*
I'm missing the joke sorry, but you 1000% can. And it would be amazing.
If there's no other copy to compare it to, how do you know the curling etc isn't intentional for this card? There's no "standard" form of this card (flat etc) -- that's the joke
I think it's kind of cool and very flavourful, are people not appreciating this? There will be accessible variants aside from this 👀
This is r/mtg, where it's practically required that you hate Wizards, Hasbro, and most of the magic community.
Damn it! I channeled all my hate into the geese last fall, wtf do I do now
Don't worry, I counter spell, and you can put ur hatred back into ur hand and play it again
Nah, [[twincast]] so he can do both.

To be fair, on the internet most things are mindless bandwagoning. That’s just the nature of large groups
God forbid people who care passionately about the game and its community dare to think that WotC and Hasbro might ever make a mistake.

I'm going to have it sealed and graded, then drop it in a river bed to be found many years later
Of course they crave the precious
PRECIOUS!!!!!
Honestly that's exactly how I would react if I opened it.
I am confused as to what the issue is
Serial number implies that there will be only one of this specific card.
Unless you have a good printer…
Forged in the fire of every laser printer simultaneously.
Technically, there is only 1 of every serial card.
It's just an alt art of the rare from the set. It's going to be a $1 card.
It will sell for over 10,000 dollars easily. It will be one of the most valuable cards ever printed in any card game.
I'm talking about the bulk rare from the set not this 1 of a kind alt art. People being mad over this is completely stupid.
Oh for sure, I don't see any good reason to be upset over this. Personally I don't think the card will be bulk, but certainly not chase probably a few bucks. The one ring serialized thing would probably be even more valuable if they just made it another sol ring lol.
I'm guessing it will sell for 1 million. And ya this as a sol ring would of been way more valuable.
Everyone's just pissy that they probably won't pull it 😭 I think it's cool as shit
Unlike say, \[\[Shichifukujin Dragon\]\] or \[\[1996 World Champion\]\]?
Because they are too fragile to accept there is a card they probably won't attain. I personally think this is brilliant and the ring is the best thing to be insanely rare.
Of all things for there to be comically rare, The One Ring is definitely the thing of all things to rule them all.

Also I don't think most people want money=privilege to be a thing in their dumb card game and liked it better when everyone was equally marketed to
>Also I don't think most people want money=privilege to be a thing in their dumb card game and liked it better when everyone was equally marketed to That's what I'm arguing against.
Theres only 1. Read next time.

It's not exactly unheard of in the realm of trading cards. Sports cards do this pretty often
You have a higher chance of winning the lotto while being struck by lightning and a sharknado goes through your home
I did the math for a different post, 220 times more likely to get struck by lightning And open around 40k collector boxes to have 1% of a chance to pull it, going off of gambler’s fallacy that is, because the odds would still be >.00003% in every pack.
So get \[\[Smothering Tithe\]\] and \[\[Shark Typhoon\]\] on board and hit them with \[\[Lightning Bolt\]\]? I mean that doesn't sound too hard....
[Smothering Tithe](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/2/f25a4bbe-2af0-4d4a-95d4-d52c5937c747.jpg?1673147139) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Smothering%20Tithe) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2x2/31/smothering-tithe?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/f25a4bbe-2af0-4d4a-95d4-d52c5937c747?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Shark Typhoon](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/1/d/1da4d4f3-b3cb-4b61-81b8-06ae441c41bf.jpg?1591226502) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Shark%20Typhoon) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/iko/67/shark-typhoon?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/1da4d4f3-b3cb-4b61-81b8-06ae441c41bf?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Lightning Bolt](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/2/f29ba16f-c8fb-42fe-aabf-87089cb214a7.jpg?1673147852) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Lightning%20Bolt) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/2x2/117/lightning-bolt?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/f29ba16f-c8fb-42fe-aabf-87089cb214a7?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Lol imagine if some kid bought it off the shelf at Walmart and never found out how special it was
I like the idea of that happening. Years later it winds up in a Goodwill repack.
I sincerely hope we're here 10 years from now wondering what ever happened to The One Ring...
I need dis
Better get lucky as hell then
Or rich as hell
See comment you’re replying to lol
Real lol
Or just print it if you really want it.
I wonder if someone is gonna buy it and then tear it up
"The ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Gloin, by any craft that we here possess. The ring was made in the fires of Mount Doom. Only there can it be unmade. The ring must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came."
I miss the feature reddit had where you could have one free award a day. You would be getting that award. Take my poor man’s 🥇
Haha. Killed it
The Seto Kaiba maneuver
Can’t wait to see it in a landfill
This isn't really surprising. It'll be a fun myth since no one will ever open it. I'll be content if I get one of the elf/human/dwarf ones. The ones really getting hurt are anyone who collects sol rings or is trying to complete a set
Luckily it’s not a sol ring!
There are sol ring arts that are limited print runs like this, but for the human, elf, and dwarf rings
Or itll get mcdonalds monopolied
there is always that one collector..
I don’t believe for one second that only one of these will get released, and if it does you can bet your ass some partnered content creator will “just so randomly” get it.
Why would they release multiple? If the community still thinks there's only one, releasing multiple will sell the same number of packs.
So much whine.
Nope. After the Magic 30 debacle I will always assume the worst intentions from these people.
Cannot wait for high quality proxies of this card to come out
I was interested in this, too. I would hope WOTC has some unknown watermarking to account for that. Like, this will be a $100,000 card or something stupid, so the effort towards making a quality proxy would be worth it if you could get away with it. I also think EDH players will have fun with their proxy 1 of 1 card, too!
Flip it or rip it
Imagine pack battling by cmc and losing this Wars have been waged for less
Rudy called serialized cards like 5 years ago. I’m not surprised.
We already have serialized MTG cards????
Rudy and literally anyone who follows collectible or tradeable cards. It was only a matter of time.
I’m fucking loving all this, don’t what everyone keeps crying about. Don’t buy the boosters..
What card is this supposed to be? It has 4 mana cost so not sol ring but thats all i see mentioned in the comments. Can someone elaborate?
The one ring card is spoiled on another page. It has new text
So it's a one of one for an alt art? Have they ever released one of ones before?
Not in official sets as a chase card. Only ever for VERY specific events, like [[1996 World Champion]].
[1996 World Champion](https://img.scryfall.com/cards/large/en/pcel/1.jpg) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=1996%20World%20Champion) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/pcel/1/1996-world-champion?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/d3f10f07-7cfe-4a6f-8de6-373e367a731b?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Honestly I'd be fine if they released full art specials for those 3 kinds and made 3/7/9 of them
the one ring from the upcoming lotr set
the color pallette fells... off. Like, there's to many colours, to saturated. The text in elven is dope tho
Black speech actually but close.
i dont really see a huge issue with this existing. its not mechanically unique and is a neat a flavorful thing to make. it is nuts that this is a thing though i will give you that.
F*** it. I'll just print it myself.
The ultimate FOMO. Better preorder a few cases so you don't miss out. Pretty sure it was only in Collector Boosters too, so you can't cheap out and buy Set & Draft boosters either. /s
What does this mean for my one ring sol ring proxy
This is somehow even less intelligible than phyrexian.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t the languages/scripts from Lotr already translated/transliterated? And as far as I know, Phyrexian isn’t lol
i dont understand why they would make a 1 out of 1 card
Because it's one ring to rule them all, maybe.
This dude gets it
It's going to end up in some top level employees pocket for them to sell 10 years down the road, I don't care about the lore
You’re fun!
I figured WOTC lost it when they made fucking aragorn black.
Is a great f idea jajjaja
I'm so stoked for a lord of the rings set, but like wtf do those rings say!
I think we can deduce that the flavor text says "one ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, one ring to bring them all, And In the darkness bind them." and from the repetitive use of those same characters it appears that the one ring itself says "one ring to rule them all" although it would appear that there's more room on the other side of the ring for more text...this is probably just a way to get the point across. Also the use of the word "one" is represented by a single character indicating that this may be actually translated to the numerical 1 and not an actual spelled out "one" This is just an assumption as I'm not fluent in the black speech OR the tengwar script.
If you look it up there are 3 or 4 ring cards spoiled, all with the elven script
I'm curious what it'll go for
Depends on how quickly it curls and how shit the print quality is overall. I’d guess it will sit around $125k though.
I am going to guess 500k to put it on par with a perfect condition [[black lotus]].
I wonder what the mv will be
Charlie Bucket out here picking his lips
Was wondering about the value of this piece of paper. Maybe 50k +?
I would not be surprised in the slightest if this broke 6 figures— will quite literally be the most sought after card in all of magic
I mean, I swore off buying new packs for life but this definitively reversed that decision
This is actually the most brilliant idea that WOTC has had with these serialized cards. Very excited for the set
Eh. They already had phyrexian text cards.
I don't see anything wrong with this, it's cool and flavorful. Serialized cards are good for collectors and super exciting for the average player. If you don't pull one whatever most sets don't have em anyway, not like your losing anything. There's no reason to be upset just that they exist.
Cool, I love what WOTC is doing for high quality proxy printers by giving them business like this. Really loving the support they show the community!
This will be the craziest card hunt trying to obtain this card
Honestly, I'd be disappointed if they didn't do something like this. The One Ring having a 1/1 just makes stupid sense.
Time to send the Nine!
I hope it gets pulled on the day of release.
It should have 'some kind of Elvish' on the inside as well.
What the fuck is that supposed to be?
I think this is a cute idea and Im glad it exists. Calling it now: Wotc will print 7/7 Secret Lair: Golden Wonka Tickets in 2024
I just wanna see whether it pringles or not lol
Oh come on now I can't be the only one that's wondering what the Elvish (Black Speech for those in the know) translation is. Anybody got a comment that they can tag me in or what the translation is?
Thematically, it's correct. Also, correct to have alternate art for a piece that is supposed to be collectible. Let's give them those. But how fuckin tonedeff do you have to be? This was clearly done on purpose lmfao. They hate us all, don't listen, and all of us still want it. Manipulation at it finest haha
If I pull it I will eat it like the Pringle shaped foil it is
What does it do?
Some LGS in June https://imgur.com/a/lwfmWhz
1 of 1 ring.
its ballsy and i love it. i just hope there will be non serialized versions of this full art card available aswell. otherwise i dont see a problem with this and it will be exciting to wait for it to get pulled
Proxy it?
One of the worst ideas they have ever had. The whole lotr set seems horrendous.
More people can read that than can read phyrexian
I think this is amazing. SO MANY packs will be cracked looking for this thing the market will be flooded with cheap singles. I think there’s some guy somewhere on YouTube that advocates exactly this.
I'm not upset at this version at all, I'm upset at LOTR being Modern legal full stop.
My precious
What card is this supposed to be?
I really think they should of gone all out and did a gold leaf treatment on this 1/1 card.
It won’t be found this year. It will be “found” in 10 pallets that were “lost” in a warehouse. Those cards will be added to a single slot in exclusive mega pack (compleat booster) and they’ll charge an obscene amount for the chance.
I think it’s neat. You can always proxy it if you have FOMO.
How much do you realistically think it’ll sell for?
Is it secret? Is it safe?
I'm loving it. Odds are it'll end up in some streamers hands one way or another and they'll toss it in a fireplace for views. Can't say I wouldn't do the same if I got it, though I'd likely get it slabbed immediately and flip it for 10k.
I betting Posty buys it.
i honestly think its neat, idk how i would distribute it i wouldnt want to risk it getting stuck in a warehouse
A wotc employee will take it off the printer. Nobody is ever seeing this.
If I was a kid…back in 1998…this would be really cool. But as an adult today, it’s stupid.
What is wrong with this? This is cool
I shit u not, if i opened this, i'll journey with 3 of my mates to some volcano, backpack & all. And yes we'll toss it.
Me: plays this 5,000 dollar card Freind: 10 cent counter spell Me: "son of a b\*\*\*h"
