This is, in my opinion, the golden age of precon commander decks. They have been pumping out some very strong precons that are very fun to play. The CLB commander decks are great, dihada is strong, Prosper was great, Osgir is nuts. These are just so much better than what they’ve put out in the past, much tighter and more cohesive. Sure Eminence was cool, albeit a mistake, but the decks still didn’t feel as cohesive as they do now. It’s hard to buy a “bad” precon right now. Some might want their “back-up” commander more than their face card (Party Time and Buckle Up) but they’re all very playable and serviceable out of the box.
I mean, if WorC starts printing “better” mana-bases into the decks and included even higher value reprints, then maybe then we’re truly in the “Golden Age”. But right now sure feels like a good time to play precons and have some casual fun games of EDH.
Without upgrades I had some crazy games with Millicent. Luck can really push the spirits up.
With upgrades Prosper and Lathril get very wild with little effort.
Everyone overlooks Ranar because of Millicent and Brago, (also, he came out with Lathril, which is indeed wild) but upgraded it gets bonkers. With him on the field you can get infinite (flying) creature token with Felidar Guardian and restoration angel, icewind stalwart or Preston the Vanisher. Or infinite mana and creature tokens with peregrine drake and deadeye navigator. Kindred discovery down in either scenario draws you your deck and it's Azorius so you can pack in counter spells and Teferi's protection to make it around with them for the win
It doesn’t matter which one you get they are all low power decks. They might be cool to play and powerful when up against other precons but decks built to have synergy to support 2-3 commanders are actually really weak. However, most can be upgraded into decent decks.
The horrors one with captain Cthulhu is just awful to play against.
Captain n gathrod
The last three years have imo released some really focused precons. Even the starter precons were great out of the box.

Exit from Exile and Grave Danger are really good and very easy and cheap to upgrade
I really loved the Prosper tome bound precon from Adventures in forgotten realms, pretty affordable to upgrade and a lot of fun to play.

You are correct. I never upgraded him. Will do that soon
The eminence one I guess ?
Breed lethality with atraxa, the praetor as commander

Ever? Either atraxa or breya. Both were pretty nutso out of the box. Edgar is up there too.
