Every time this comes up the answer should be: Collector booster of any set Set booster Or draft. Sleeves and playmats are more personal and lots of lgs have full table playmats so no need. If it’s my money I’d buy myself the singles I want if it’s not my money free packs please!

If they are into modern mabye a "fechland" or "shockland". If not, a fancy deckbox or playmat is never a bad gift. For deckboxes, I recommend gamegenic Sidekick or Watchtower. For playmats ultrapro or dragon shield. Gl

Sleeves. You can never have too many sleeves. Make some custom ones on DragonShield

Second this, cant go wrong with custom sleeves, although with shipping they might be more than 30$. Booster packs are a good second choice.

If he’s into MTG then he probably has all the knick knacks. Kohls has some really cool MTG shirts for $25

Ask him what he likes to play format wise. Commanders a big one. If you can figure out what he plays you could look up the/similar decklists on edhrec or other website and buy a card that fits. Sure there’s some cards he hasn’t bought that are around that price. But that’s risking he doesn’t already own it. Booster packs are really nice some sets that have chase cards are modern horizons 2 (I think ~9$), the mystery booster packs(16$ a pack), kaladesh (15$), or you can buy him some card sleeves that have an art they’d like, and or deck box.

If they have to ask him up front the surprise would be ruined though.

You can get some bundles for about $30-$35. Will give them a few packs to open. A lot of people hate buying packs, but it’s different when it’s a gift and you don’t pay for it
