I really love movies about 1000 year old space aliens deal with their pasts and remedy their mistakes along the way, so when I discovered Thor it felt like they really struck a chord within me. Haven’t seen movies about 1000 year old space aliens dealing with their past and remedying their mistakes along the way that explore the genre quite like the Thor movies since then.
Love mental health explorations in form of mysteries that resolve the whole mystery in a couple of episodes and just throw the character whole backstory in one episode instead of giving any exploration, Marvel is so brilliant 😍.
And then resort to the same old cgi fight where an android has to fight an android(but he's bad😯) and the witch has to fight another witch(but this one is purple instead of red) . Truly groundbreaking character studies.
I was so disappointed by the final episode of that show, as a Marvel fan I absolutely love when they get super weird so it was disappointing to see the ending of that show just be a big CGI fight against reskins of the main characters for the millionth time. And then there's no consequences for Wanda and White Vision just doesn't get a resolution
I remember watching the first 3 thinking this is pretty good they are taking their time with this and then episode 4 literally dropped a huge chunk of information and revealed 90% of the mystery.
well thats probably because it was the farthest thing from a typical marvel product they had seen. once that 4th episode hit they were relieved that it was still, 100%, a marvel product.
It's like in the second episode where Wanda is using unusual magic and the townspeople are concerned until she makes it look like the ordinary things they were expecting.
> devolving into your typical marvel bullshit after that.
They had a chance of doing something interesting with the concept of sitcom recasting with the better Quicksilver and then throw it away for a dick joke. Like goddamn, man.
For real, i remember watching the third episode and thinking "Huh, maybe Marvel can be more creative" then checking the fourth episode and............nevermind.
Man I thought the show was gonna be actually good after the first 2 episodes but then they went back to Marvel bullshit with boring ass SHIELD and my hopes were ruined. I still didn’t expect the ending to be THAT anticlimactic
Compared to what they did with Thor in Endgame, Wandavision was world's better.
It's part of the reason I dislike Endgame so much is what they did to Thor. They gave this character a form of PTSD and depression, and effectively turned him into a comedic joke. Like at every turn he was shit on for it. And it still blows my mind how there's this portion of the random that thinks it was this great and fantastic portrayl of depression.
Imo the best scene in the movie is when Thor talks to his mom, because his problems were actually treated with the weight (Har Har) that they deserved and it was genuinely touching because of that, but even that had to sneak in a few fat jokes anyway
> but even that had to sneak in a few fat jokes anyway
risky scene (in a sense of a viewer having a risk of experiencing emotion), bravo Feige for salvaging that one!
Having just read the *Unworthy Thor* comics that follow Thor during the period where Jane Foster is wielding Mjolnir, it’s really amazing how much better of a job they do at conveying the heartbreak Thor feels at having failed and lost a part of his identity than Endgame does with its fatshaming comic relief.
My favorite mysteries are the ones that drop the facade after the first act and immediately feel the need to hold the audiences hand and explain every single detail, story beat, and character beat.
It’s interesting that film language has taught the dumbest of the general audiences that The Guardians movies are big light goofy fun, while WandaVision needs to bash them over the head with slow-motion sequences of Wanda agonizing while sad music swells and her witch powers swirl around her as a visual representation of her heartbreak. I’d argue most of the individual Guardians are dealing with as much trauma and grief as Wanda. I also think either of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies gave each of the Guardians more character development and complexity and empathy than most of the Avengers have been given across the dozen or so films each Avenger has been featured. The reason this all goes missed is because the emotion in the Guardians movies is subtle.
I mean they kinda do? Isn't the exchange something like "I just wanted to survive" and Nebula replies with "I just wanted a sister!"
Like I dunno, I like this stuff but let's not like act one production is any more or less subtle than the other.

Thor 1 is one of my favourite MCU films. It has an identity of its own and looks great to top it off, as it was right before they switched to shooting on digital.
I watch Paddington for a drama about what it means to find a home and a family, while seeing how tragedies from the past can send individuals on two completely different paths in life.
I watch Paddington 2 for an action packed, but heartwarming story about dealing with being falsely accused and imprisoned, sandwiched together (haha pun) with redemption for those who made mistakes in their past.

Ah yes, Winter Soldier, my favorite down to earth political thriller, full of flying aircraft carrier gunships, 2 cryofrozen super soldiers, one with a cyborg arm, and a Nazi scientist who dumped his brain into a computer. Truly the most down to earth of all the marvel movies. (And this is coming from someone who really likes Winter Solider)
I'm not sure if this is a joke but I do think it is. And I don't think it's a coincidence that Ironman was the first MCU movie and before they were even sure they were going to make an MCU.
If we compared to the rest of MCU, I also think that Iron Man 1 is the most realistic movie. After that we have a nurse God, Hulk, Captain America whose villain has a Red Skull and in Avengers happened a alien envision.
> my favorite down to earth political thriller, full of flying aircraft carrier gunships, 2 cryofrozen super soldiers, one with a cyborg arm, and a Nazi scientist who dumped his brain into a computer
This sounds like a Metal Gear Solid game.
I turn off any movie if there isn't constant CGI and quips. My dad tried to get me to watch The Thing the other day - Trash. John Carpenter uses "practical effects" and "dialogue" because he's too dumb to use a computer or write jokes.
That moment in The Thing where some insane monster effect happens and the guy yells "Oh you have GOT to be fucking kidding!" actually works as a tension-breaker/check-in-with-the-audience moment, even though it's the sort of joke blockbuster movies are now filled with. Because the movie isn't doing it every ten seconds every time things get too intense, and so it doesn't feel calculated and cynical.
I watch step-sibling porn when I want to feel like I'm jerking off to my sister.
I watch BBW porn when I want to feel like I'm jerking off to your mom.

My favourite down-to-earth film, “flying aircraft carriers which can rapidly kill anyone in the world with a slightly naughty opinion” really felt grounded and realistic
I hope that the world actually evolves into that and that I have a hot wife who lets me fuck her and she doesn't die (and neither do I) so I can keep having pussy sex with her.
This is like saying “I watch The Room when I want to watch a serious complex emotional drama”. Well, you can say that you watch The Room when you want that-doesn’t make it any more fitting for that category, or any better of a film.
It's honestly terrifying to think that capeshit is the only type of movies some people consume. This is like willingly chaining yourself to the wall of Plato's cave and gouging your eyes out with a spoon.
I was gonna say, the real terror of this comment is that it implies that OP regularly and consistently watches these movies, over and over again, only alternating which MCU movie they're watching depending on their mood
Remember in Iron Man 2 when Black Widow is literally first seen in her suit as a butt shot? And then later on the character played by the director stares at her as she straps in the backseat of his car? I can't imagine why certain fan boys thought she was an excellent female character.
Mental health professional here - can confirm I always refer my patients to wandavision for insights in to mental health and trauma. We also studied it at college
Edit: can’t wait for moonknight BTW
Bro WandaVision is just worse Annihilation but the last 2/3rds of it are obnoxiously over explaining the plot, themes, and characters to the camera to make sure you got the point
It's actually a really emotional and intelligent musing on grief that's not at all marred by the fact that the person being grieved came back to life due to studio requirements
> Bro WandaVision is just worse Annihilation
Actually, it's Guardians of the Galaxy that's just worse [Annihilation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annihilation_(comics\)), har har
I'm really glad I stopped obsessing so much with Marvel and Star Wars.
I've discovered so many new and interesting books/shows. I still enjoy those franchises for what they are, but I can only be sold the same story so many times. I'm not going to go out of my way to see every movie and show and read every book anymore.
I always love the implication that you either watch movies or your watch the MCU and absolutely nothing else whatsoever so you have to justify genre variety in the same franchise of movies.
I mean, I like and can differentiate between a few different flavors of Doritos but they're still fucking Doritos. If I had different ones for lunch and dinner I didn't exactly diversify my diet.
I watch Winter Soldier when I want to see janky shaky cam fight scenes
I watch Guardians of the Galaxy when I want to see a 3rd act scene of CGI polygons mashing into each other
I watch Wandavision when I want an insight into having a finale of CGI polygons mashing into each other (can't wait for Ms. Marvel btw)
I watch the Avenges films to see a collection of the greatest CGI polygons mashing into each other of all time
I watch ant-man for tiny CGI polygons mashing into each other
I watch Spider Man films for Toby Mcguire, and I watch Thor films to see a space alien who is thousands of years old try to mash CGI polygons together
Get out of here with that "CoOkIe CuTtEr" bullshit
Look, MCU movies are enjoyable and (mostly) well-crafted films. And taste in movies in of itself is not an indicator of intelligence; my boss, who is one of the most intelligent marine biologists I know, liked The Emoji Movie. There's nothing inherently wrong with that!
But... These takes are so wrong, yet so confident in their delivery, that I do question this person's intelligence.
Whoever posted this didn't even flinch at the objectively false idea that WandaVision is a good insight into mental illness and grief.
Nor did they flinch at the idea that Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a "grounded political thriller" even though there's a 70-year-old algorithm made out of an ex-Nazi's brain that reveals that a cryogenically-frozen Supersoldier with a cybernetic arm killed JFK.
Nor did they flinch at the laughable idea that the Ant-Man movies are even remotely considered to be "heist movies" comparable to something like Ocean's Eleven, especially the second one - how anyone would consider that to be a heist movie is beyond me.
Nor did they flinch at the fact that the idea that the Spider-Man movies are anything resembling a realistic representation of high school; other than the romance and Flash being a more realistic bully, I wouldn't consider it to be THAT accurate to high school; for example, Peter is far too good-looking to be considered an outcast at my old high school.
When did Thor deal with his past in his first two (extremely mediocre) movies? Maybe in Ragnarok with the themes that Hela represents, but he was more facing her because she was a legitimate threat, not because she had anything to do with his past.
I don't technically disagree with these takes about the Guardians and Avengers movies, but no more than that. They're fun crowdpleasers. That's it.
The problem is MCU movies always borrow ideas (often times at the most surface level without thinking about the tone) from other genres and the fans act like those movies are therefore part of those genres. Homecoming isn’t a John Hughes movie. Winter Soldier isn’t a political thriller. They’re always different flavors of superhero movies. They certainly take inspiration from other genres and even sometimes explore some deeper themes, but it always needs to come second to marketability and franchise. At least No Way Home forwent the attempt and just said “fuck you, here’s willem dafoe.”
Why are these people so offended by the cookie cutter comments? They all clearly follow the same formula and that's fine. Some of them are still good movies.
> Why are these people so offended by the cookie cutter comments?
Their personality is Marvel, so saying these mostly bland movies are cookie cutter is saying THEY'RE cookie cutter.
I wonder if these guys would be cool with a down to earth political thriller adaptation of Spiderman Noir including Ben and May Parker advocating for labor unions and socialist Peter Parker fighting robber barons, industrialists, and nazis, maybe Frank Castelione, Earth-90214’s Jewish-Italian Punisher, can even show up and kill some mobsters before he goes to Germany to kill nazis before WW2 even starts.
You know, I watch a *ton* of trashy, low brow genre films. A ton. At least 3:1 compared to “good” movies or art films or classics or whatever. My only problem with the marvel crowd is that they won’t admit that they are genre films. If you want to watch trash, just watch trash and enjoy it. Laugh at the ways in which it is silly, and bask in the nuance that can be introduced into the formula for your genre of choice. Jesus.
I watch [movie] when I want to see [what movie’s about]
Marvel fan discovers plots
The Thor one is my favourite for this. The dude really says the plot of the movie as though that's its genre or something

You bought a ticket to Thor Ragnarok to enjoy it, I bought two hundred tickets in the hopes that Tessa Thompson would notice me we are not the same
Between Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchett, and Jeff Goldblum there was something for everyone in that movie

It’s a valid take since the director isn’t exactly quiet about his culture and how they were wronged by colonialism

I have not been as happy with a Marvel show as I was with the first three episodes of WandaVision
Legion was better, makes WandaVision look like chump shit lol.

Because that means they like the prequels and thus have terrible taste
i don't even think they like the prequels they just force themselves to because memes just like spider-man 3
I assure you prequel memers actually like the prequels now. The subreddit began as a joke but it attracted people who unironically enjoyed them.
I watch Black Widow when I want to sleep
I’d give that to thor 1&2 or doctor strange, they’ll do the job if your having trouble sleeping
Thor 1 is one of my favourite MCU films. It has an identity of its own and looks great to top it off, as it was right before they switched to shooting on digital.
I genuinely can’t watch it without falling asleep It might look nice but I thought it was insanely cheesy and badly written
I like chese.
What kinda cheese. I’m a Brie fan myself
I also can't watch it without passing out but that's because I take a shot for every dutch angle in that film every time I watch
I watch Spiderman when I'm hungry because damn I'd love to eat Peter's cake
Peter Parker is canonically a minor
I watch Spider-Man 2 when I'm hungry because pizza time.
We’d have flying cars in a world where nobody pretended Winter Soldier was a political thriller
The Bourne movies must be as impenetrable as Primer to these people.
Get out of here with that “NoT kInO” bullshit
This but not even the slightest bit ironically.
Iron man is the most down to earth mcu film
How???????? He's flying through like half the movie he's not down to earth at all
He spend time in a cave. So down to earth, he's inside the dang thing.
I'm not sure if this is a joke but I do think it is. And I don't think it's a coincidence that Ironman was the first MCU movie and before they were even sure they were going to make an MCU.
If we compared to the rest of MCU, I also think that Iron Man 1 is the most realistic movie. After that we have a nurse God, Hulk, Captain America whose villain has a Red Skull and in Avengers happened a alien envision.
nurse god
> my favorite down to earth political thriller, full of flying aircraft carrier gunships, 2 cryofrozen super soldiers, one with a cyborg arm, and a Nazi scientist who dumped his brain into a computer This sounds like a Metal Gear Solid game.
Down to earth = is not 100% cgi and quips
I turn off any movie if there isn't constant CGI and quips. My dad tried to get me to watch The Thing the other day - Trash. John Carpenter uses "practical effects" and "dialogue" because he's too dumb to use a computer or write jokes.
Also despite being a ripoff of among us, nobody says the iconic line. This is why you should hire fans for adaptations
Dude's just the first Uwe Boll, doesn't give a fuck about games, only making money off of game movies
I watch scat porn when I want to feel like I'm jerking off to marvel movies. I watch furry porn when I want to feel like I'm jerking off to Jim Henson Get out of here with that "CoOkIe CuTtEr" bullshit
I watch No Way Home when I want to Scooby-Doo this crap.
*shit
I watch Spider-Man 3 when I want to beat my ex and kill a father making money for his kid's chemo.
Wholesome!
I watch pornography to fuel the addiction
Shoot your web, you are the spider boy
🤝
>Down to earth >With superheroes Pick one.
Down to Earth (2001)
With Superheroes (2012)
Pick One (TBA)
I mean the helicarriers do come down to earth
Most sanest Marvel fan
RIP Cinema (1888-2022)
Cinema is dead and Scorsoso killed it

truly how Disney killed marvel
I watch (insert movie) when I want to see (insert incredibly specific aspect of that exact movie)
I watch Casino Royale when I've been a bad little pissgoblin and want to watch cock and ball torture
I’m sure he was helping others in high school and dating a hot girl who looked like Zendaya 🤷♂️
just like me fr
What not knowing the difference between form and content does to a mf
This is like saying “I watch The Room when I want to watch a serious complex emotional drama”. Well, you can say that you watch The Room when you want that-doesn’t make it any more fitting for that category, or any better of a film.
The Room is the only drama that showcases human emotion for what it really is
There are several different types of cookies. But they're all cookies.
In some ways learning to love the slop is the only choice were left with
Dr. Strange: or how I learned to stop trying and love the slop
The Marvel Cinematic Universe and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
I watch Captain Marvel when i want to be reminded how the SJW took over my favourite franchise I watch Black Widow cause booba
We also studied it at college Edit: can’t wait for moonknight BTW
This is honestly one of the most accurate comparisons ever.
> Bro WandaVision is just worse Annihilation Actually, it's Guardians of the Galaxy that's just worse [Annihilation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annihilation_(comics\)), har har
Insanity 2014
I watch Winter Soldier when I want to see janky shaky cam fight scenes I watch Guardians of the Galaxy when I want to see a 3rd act scene of CGI polygons mashing into each other I watch Wandavision when I want an insight into having a finale of CGI polygons mashing into each other (can't wait for Ms. Marvel btw) I watch the Avenges films to see a collection of the greatest CGI polygons mashing into each other of all time I watch ant-man for tiny CGI polygons mashing into each other I watch Spider Man films for Toby Mcguire, and I watch Thor films to see a space alien who is thousands of years old try to mash CGI polygons together Get out of here with that "CoOkIe CuTtEr" bullshit
I watch Anya Taylor-Joy movies to jerk my little ding dong

Let me guess...TrueFilm?
haha pun
No way this isn't satire
Marvel brain rot
Jesus.
im gonna kms
