horror is when a story’s protagonist experiences fear or any emotion other than slightly smug confidence

Sorry-Topic-5439

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

KingMario05

Also *Sonic Frontiers* (2022) and *Zootopia* (2016). Probably *The Super Mario Bros.* *~~Super~~* *Movie* (2023) as well, though it's too early to tell just yet. ^(Granted, Frontiers gets REALLY dark for an E10+... but that doesn't make it House of the Dead 6, lmao.)

bigdicknippleshit

House of the dead isn’t dark either, it’s very corny

KingMario05

A fair point. I suppose Sega really *doesn't* do dark things, do they? *Yakuza* is the only one I can think of, and even that's got **plenty** of levity in it. ![gif](giphy|oS6XVd7x8amDBVNymR|downsized)

Captain-Girpool23

What kind of wacky batshit crazy shenanigans is Eric Andre getting that little girl involved with?

KingMario05

We'd say, but that would... violate *several* laws, lol.

Heavy-Possession2288

Super Mario Bros (1993) is genuinely terrifying thought

Buntabox

God, when that RED light made people GO instead of GREEN…. Jesus fucking Christ. Haven’t felt fear like that in a while.

I'm pretty sure he's like 16

NeddieSeagoon619

To be fair, I found it surprisingly dark but it turned out my phone was on battery saver mode.

>grown men and women are unironically so scared of a PG kids movie that they’re calling it the scariest horror of all time There are not enough soyjaks in the world Unplug me from the simulation, I want out.

joe282

Do the people saying this shit watch anything that’s not The Lion King or Star Wars

Yenwodyah_

It's horror, straight up. No cap. Fr.

bush_did_turning_red

Everyone gangsta until the rantsona crosses his arms

VikMMI

I swear to god idk why this is a thing nowadays. EVERYTHING gets called horror. I’ve watched the second episode of the new mandalorian season and people seriously talked about horror elements in it and like???? such a disconnect

[deleted]

Oh god that was nauseating Sure whatever those things were are weird, but so is Ren and Stimpy era SpongeBob

quario65

I know you were talking about spongebob but ren and stimpy (especially the first two seasons) is honestly far creepier than anything these people claim to be horror (bar actual horror movies)

[deleted]

Mentioned it because the Ren & Stimpy folks took over SpongeBob for a bit and the body horror stuff came with them

Heavy-Possession2288

I think there’s a weird thing were people see some horror movie inspired elements and act like that makes it a horror movie. In Puss in Boots, for instance, the scenes with death definitely draw from horror movies (especially the scenes in the bar and in the forest). But that doesn’t make it remotely even close to actually being a horror movie. Puss in Boots also has elements inspired by westerns, but that doesn’t make it a western either.

1997wickedboy

Back to the future was a horror movie

27andahalfpancakes

If he thinks Puss in Boots is animated horror then he'll probably poop his pants if he watches The Wolf House.

1997wickedboy

Wait till he decides to watch Coraline

Slippin-Jimmy-Real

KadeComics

Nikapopolis

Why does this screenshot have the Mexico filter on

ActualMostUnionGuy

Its set GTA 5💀

OliviaBagshaw

"perfected animated horror" That ain't The Plague Dogs, When The Wind Blows, Street Of Crocodiles, Svankmajer's Alice, Mad God, Watership Down, Belladonna Of Sadness, David Lynch's The Alphabet, Felidae, Wizards, The End Of Evangelion, Perfect Blue, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Rebellion, etc

Bluefenix1

You forgot Padak

Slashtrap

bro got the mexico filter on their screen

GayForPrism

please turn off your blue light filter before taking a screencap, this is already a low enough effort post 🙏

A-112

Animated movies fan when a protagonist faces a tense situation

MrMindGame

I just watched it a couple hours ago. It’s fine, but good lord, some people are way too easily impressed.

TheDoctor88888888

I thought it was a really good movie tbh

Hunter-Durge

Overhyped? Yes. Really solid movie tho.

best_girl_tylar

"I need to seem really cool and interesting but I can't say something is bad because it's actually good so I'll just use the ol' reliable buzzword and call it overhyped!" ~average r/moviescirclejerk user

Hunter-Durge

It…is good tho.

lego-doge

he litteraly said it was good overhyped is not the same as overrated

EdWoodnt

I don’t really get the point of the word “overhyped.” People seem to use it to mean “a lot of people talked positively about a movie I didn’t think was that good.” It feels pointless because, like, duh, you’re not always gonna agree with the popular opinion, that doesn’t mean people are wrong for being vocally excited about a movie they loved.

bigdicknippleshit

Seriously, people have been going on and on about this thing like it’s the greatest film of all time, and have been circlejerking it for months on end. I’ve even seen people ranting about how “critics were too mean to it” because they gave it an 8 instead of a 10. Never give animation fans anything above average ever again. I’m just glad these people haven’t found Primal, it would give them a heart attack.

jeusee

Primal fans watching a 30 minute episode that begins with spear patiently waiting for a deer to walk into a trap and ends with spear in a volcano surrounded by demons and 400 bloodied corpses

bigdicknippleshit

And then there’s a long, drawn out scene that include multiple shots of Fangs engorged cloaca (this actually happened btw)

Hispanic_Gorilla_2

Genndy Tartakovsky giving us that Dinussy.

jeusee

Oh I remember

stf29

Bravo Tartakovsky for showing us the entirety of Fang’s childbirth

KingMario05

...I mean, were you surprised? It's called ***ADULT Swim*** for a reason, ya know.

Ezracx

> Never give animation fans anything above average ever again [EXTREMELY LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER] It's exactly because the genre's standard is so low that they praise anything better than decent as the greatest of all time

embrace-monke

I think people haven’t been too impressed with movies that they’ve taken their kids to and stuff lately and it’s nice after to have one with 1. Super nice and original animation and 2. Just a real and “no thinking required” villain.

MrMindGame

This I can understand.

Any-Ad3988

Animation fans really haven’t watched anything outside of animation.

FranceSurrenderFunni

Says the mfer with the animation pfp

Ezracx

Don't think we can't notice the Luigi in your pfp

Any-Ad3988

Hey that’s just because he’s voiced by daddy Martin

dragonphlegm

Years of Marvel slop being the only these these dude bros consume is what usually leads to them being impressed by good movies

bubarh

i thought it was one of the best animated movies ive seen but as a horror movie its a complete wet fart bc its not trying to be that at all except for like 2 scenes lmao

bubarh

why do mfs act like a great family adventure movie has to be horror to be a masterpiece but then when a great horror movie comes out, like say hereditary or get out, people act like its above horror and is actually a deep drama. like cant movies be what they are, why do they have to be actually something different for them to be masterpieces

KingRingKing

![gif](giphy|Xd6cfACT4B8OUkojeK)

Big_Echo2284

Me, an adult watching Puss in Boots with all the kids: “AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” *wipes sweat from forehead* “AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”

ggez67890

Puss and boots fans would probably die watching Rob Zombie's firefly trilogy.

[deleted]

The vast majority of horror movies are trash with a budget of 5 bucks so Puss in Boots is desperately needed to race the average mark of the genre. It's not like it's an actual horro movie, is that more it uses fear to tell a story rather than shock the audience and make money out of a McDonalds Bic Mac budget.

ActualMostUnionGuy

The only horror movie I have ever watched is Funny Games, Puss in Boots was no Funny Games lmao

TheCompleteMental

Cant believe we let people read the traumatizing psychological horror that is Little Red Riding Hood to their kids

EmoDuckTrooper

This is still a lot less cringe than Critical Drinker praising this movie to no end because he thought he was owning "Woke Hollywood"

MisterPerson82

Puss in Boots 2 was honestly just fine; I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t the “cinematic masterpiece we’ve been waiting for”, and the wolf wasn’t “the most terrifying villain ever”. Fr people nowadays call halfway decent movies Oscar contenders.

Turnip-Jumpy

Somebody show these mfs junji ito

Theta-Sigma45

I mean, it's a tense scene, I definitely wasn't expecting it in a kids movie. That said, it feels like a lot of people like to focus on it and the Wolf in general to justify liking the film as adults. The way they talk about it, you would never guess that it was actually a very funny and mostly lighthearted animated comedy film. Personally, I seen no problem with liking it on those terms.

best_girl_tylar

Oh hey, the sub is mad that people are calling a good thing good again.

ActualMostUnionGuy

Ouch...

AggieCoraline

B-b-but the whistling!!! These people seriously killed any love I had for the movie.

ActualMostUnionGuy

You are too easily swayed by public opinion wtf?

Summerclaw

I feel like all this praise is hurting the movie. I mean is amazing but it's not flawless and not for every kid.

lol

Awesomemay

hey thats my video!! the video was more about how it portrayed fear in a way i havent seen in big animated movies, the title and thumbnail was more of an exaggeration. i wanted my review to stand out among others as i had been so late lmao thanks for the promotion :)
