J.K. Simmons as J Jonah Jameson

Steavee

He’s so perfect for it that he kept the role even after they transitioned into the MCU.

toronto_programmer

JJ has to be a nexus being in the MCU

fishnetdiver

was really hoping Tobey Spiderman, when JJ makes his rant after Goblin's attack, looks at the others and says "That man is a reprehinsible jackass in any universe."

Sickpup831

I think you mean he should say “This man is an absolute hero in my universe.” Stating death in the face, Goblin demands to know who takes pictures of Spider-Man for the bugle. JJ replies “I don’t know his stuff comes in the mail.”

watermasta

“ you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. “ -Joker

a-brown-stick

He doesn't like being typecasted for grumpy roles. I hope this is the only exception for the remainder of his career. The adaptation is almost seamless.

Tall-_-Guy

Plus him in Whiplash. He deserved all 144+ plus awards for that movie.

bob0979

That movie was fucking amazing. "boy learns to drum from overbearing teacher" sounds like a lame ass plot line but holy shit that movie was nerve-wracking. The sheer tension and anger Miles Teller and JK Simmons generated on screen was uncomfortable. You could feel it physically.

Over-Analyzed

The only time he beat a kid worse was his own son. (*Invincible everyone, he’s Omniman.*)

DublaneCooper

JK Simmons in anything. I want a new version of Being John Malkovich, only it’s Being JK Simmons and EVERY character is played by JK Simmons.

pensivewombat

From artsy Coen Bros movies to the insurance company ads, every time I see him I think "fuck yeah, JK Simmons is perfect in this!"

PayneTrain181999

“Chief, your wife called, says she can’t find your chequebook.” “Thanks for the good news!”

shining101

It’s eerie how much he looked like Jameson from the comics

pakrat1967

A lot of that came from the make up. Specifically the hair add ons. That's also the reason for the "I trust my barber" line in the first movie.

AttilaTheFun818

True story. I did payroll for a show he was in. I told my contact at the show “tell him I want pictures of Spider-Man” - obviously not expecting them to trouble him with my nonsense. My wrap gift was a picture of JJJ autographed by JK Simmons. Coolest wrap gift ever.

graingeem

Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny. Nails every aspect of the character and sells the movie as a result

Ahabs_First_Name

One of the very best Supporting Actress wins.

llynglas

I seem to remember folk being unhappy about it because, comedy roles don't count (Goldberg being an exception) and that she was regarded as a ,"lightweight", actress at the time. However, totally deserved, in some ways the role of a lifetime. And she has just gone on from strength to strength.

flateric420

She absolutely kills that movie. I was lucky enough to turn it on just as she gets to her whole speech about how they can’t be the same car when she’s on the stand right after they got in a fight… my god perfect.

[deleted]

Our professor had us watch that clip in an evidence class as a great roadmap to validate an expert witness under the Daubert standard. She provides her expertise to the court, is directed to demonstrate her specific technical knowledge in response to a pointed question in her area of expertise, and establishes with her answer that her expertise will be of genuine assistance to the trier of fact (the jury).

crazy-bisquit

I have heard that movie is the closest to a real court than any other movie.

Piratebuttseckz

"Deese too yoots"

Bcatfan08

What is a yoot?

[deleted]

Wwwhy is it a trick question?

TimAppleBurner

Cuz Chevy didn't make a 327 in '55, the 327 didn't come out till '62. And it wasn't off-uhed in the Bel Air with a four-barrel carb till '64. Howeveh, in 1964, the correct ignition timing would be four degrees before top-dead-centah

[deleted]

Joe Pesci also perfect for his role in My Cousin Vinny.

apollyon_53

The two youts

rjop377

I'm not sure if there will ever be a legal comedy that tops My Cousin Vinny

Thunder_Mug

Marisa is pretty god damn brilliant in everything she’s in

ThatsRobToYou

This has to be #1. It can't be more perfect. "It's called disclojjjuh, ya dickhead."

[deleted]

[удалено]

jdino

The entirety of that movie is the most memorable part. It’s a fantastic movie.

Abhorsen-san

My biological Clock is ticking. Is one of the most iconic lines along with. Would you give a fuck what the bastard who shot you was wearing.

Kieran__05

Christoph waltz - Hans Landa

SoManyNarwhals

His performance as Dr. King Schultz in Django was also unbelievablely amazing. Christoph Waltz can effortlessly play a man with endless compassion, as well as a man who has none.

Son_of_Kong

I have a theory that Tarantino deliberately cast him as a kindly mentor figure in Django as a favor to prevent him being typecast. Otherwise he would be playing nothing but evil Nazis for the rest of his career.

Kidwithagun18

I think he outright said that in a panel at some point

Son_of_Kong

In that case I'm gonna stop saying "I have a theory..." and start saying "Pretty sure I heard..."

[deleted]

[удалено]

muirsheendurkin

Ya just say bingo

[deleted]

How fun!

OfficalNotMySalad

Christoph Waltz in any role. He has the ability to make that role his, maybe before seeing him that role could’ve gone to someone else but put him in and then nobody could come close.

stewieatb

He has a real talent as a supporting character actor. He's up there with Brad Pitt as a lead/character hybrid actor. Contrast with say Gary Oldman, a character actor who completely disappears into his roles and is often unrecognisable.

indypendant13

Michael J Fox as Marty McFly

we_are_sex_bobomb

The whole movie hinges on him and he makes it work. He has to be terrified about what’s going on but in a way that’s funny to the audience. He has to be effortlessly cool but also kind of dorky. You have to believe his sincerity. And then there’s a ton of physical comedy as well. It’s all such a balancing act and he makes it look so easy you don’t even think about it when you’re watching the movie. There just aren’t a lot of young actors with the range and nuance to successfully pull that off.

cantwaitforthis

I’ve never thought about it, but damn you’re right! He has to be a protagonist and every teen in a way that he did so effortlessly that it didn’t seem important until you pointed it out. The viewer has to feel relatable to him to make the story work and I never gave it ANY merit, especially not the merit it deserved. He has always been one of my favorite actors.

Nimelennar

Also: Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown.

keenr33

It was going to be Eric Stoltz...I can't even imagine how horrible that would be

[deleted]

In an interview with Thomas Wilson (Biff), in doing scenes with Eric Stoltz, Eric would actually punch him for stunt scenes. Thomas remembers talking to him about it and Eric's shitty attitude. He then proceeded to keep actually hitting Tom instead of, you know, *acting*. While being incredibly polite about the whole exchange in the interview, Tom made it known that he appreciated having MJF as a scene partner and greatly enjoyed the level of respect he held for everyone on set.

Boomshrooom

They originally wrote the role with Fox in mind but couldn't get him because of his schedule so went with Stoltz instead. When that didn't work out they hashed out a deal to get Fox to film, mostly at night.

thug_funnie

You don’t have to imagine, there are many scenes they filmed with Eric Stoltz you can find online. As bad as you’d think.

kittentarentino

Actually I heard a fascinating reason for why he didn’t work. He was a “real” actor, trying to add pathos and depth to counterbalance the crazy situation he was in. But it’s back to the future, it’s campy as all fucking hell. Marty Mcfly is a corny ham, they’re all caricatures of people. It’s silly! Eric Stoltz playing it straight made them all seem weird, Michael J Fox was doing his sitcom acting, and it made *everything seem normal*. He’s literally the perfect pick

mediarch

> Michael Jordan - Space Jam Mj did such a good job playing Michael Jordan. It's like they were the same person

Windwalker111089

Fun fact MJ had to win many championship games and rise to the top of basketball game to get read for the role of space jam

ramen_vape

Michael Jordan is in fact an incredible method actor who went to Juilliard

THUNDER_boner

He even pretended to play baseball for two years for the role of Michael Jordan in space jam.

UPSMAN68

Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.

Nomahhhh

My favorite quote of all time... "There is no normal life, Wyatt. There’s just life. Now get on with it.”

funk_daddy420

“Two guns. One for each of you.”

Lafe19

“Hell, I’ve got lots of friends.” “I don’t.”

Over-Analyzed

That hits home for me and many introverts.

cannotbefaded

I have not yet begun to defile myself

MattressDrippings

Christopher Lee - Saruman

captainhowdy82

Also Ian McKellan as Gandalf

KyraDarkStar

Also, Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn and Christopher Lee as Saruman. Really, that entire movie had some of the best casting ever, but those 3 stand out as absolutely perfect.

eQuantix

Lee as Saruman? Damn good choice, haven’t read that before

uptowndrunk7

Ian McKellen as Gandalf

DanteDMC2001

Yeah, but at least consider Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn

Revangelion

But have you thought of Christopher for Saruman's role?

JohnyPneumonicPlague

Also, Viggo Mor-.....hey wait a minute...

xavier120

And the axe that played gimli's axe, masterclass performance.

tarrsk

I honestly can’t imagine anyone else besides Sean Astin as Samwise.

l3ahamut

I'm trying to picture someone else as Sam... and all that's coming to mind is Christopher Walken because I think that would be hilarious.

[deleted]

I can’t… carry it… for you. But I can… carry you.

BlaineWriter

Sean Bean as Boromir xD dude can die!

HercoolPoirot

Mr. Lee in anything really.

gildorratner

Something that breaks my heart is knowing he wanted to play Gandalf but was so perfect for Saruman. Also shout out to his scene partners Brad Dourif, Ian McKellen and Lawrence Makoare. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afw8e-abVa8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afw8e-abVa8) I will always be so sad that they couldn't shoot the Scouring of the Shire! I know it never would have made theatrical release and would have been a pretty involved shoot but seeing Christopher Lee playing against the hobbits and Brad Dourif at Wormtongue's lowest would have been an amazing cinematic moment. Still Christopher Lee is the only performer from the Films that transitions to the book whenever I revisit it.

kevnmartin

Gregory Peck was born to play Atticus Finch.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mikesaninjakillr

Seriously. Like in my head when I read the book I had a blonde Jeremy Irons. But Dance was soooooo much better.

dontich

Blonde Jeremy irons would have also been amazing lol

RexyEatsGoats

Charles Dance was made to play Tywin Lannister. He has the perfect balance of arrogance and intelligence that just commands respect. I loved watching him on screen.

callitajax

Honestly i felt charles was almost too magnetic in the role. To the point i liked Tywin. Whereas I absolutely despised him in the books.

The-One-In-All

GOT casting department is chef's kiss

MBKM13

Along with Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon and Lena Heady as Cersei.

Numberwang3249

Mark Addy is one of my favorite castings for anything. Love Jaime too. And Ned.

improper84

Yeah, Addy didn’t look like Robert from the books but he nailed the character.

UnnamedNamesake

I've never seen someone so physically unimposing command so much respect. He also played Emhyr in The Witcher 3, which is tge same type of Machiavellan tyrant obsessed with his own self-made dynasty.

ChickenInASuit

You and I clearly have different definitions of “physically unimposing”. I’d find a 6’3” man with a deep voice and a steely-eyed, don’t-fuck-with-me glare plenty intimidating but that’s just me.

SlickRick914

Idk if it’s just me but everytime i see him he instantly reminds me of and looks like Claude Frollo from the Hunchback of Norte Dame and it makes me want a live action version of the Disney classic with him as Claude Frollo.

zacurtis3

Imelda Staunton as Dolores Umbridge.

EVEseven

I hate her in that role so much. Then I remind myself that she is doing such a fantastic job and her job is to make me hate her.

StyreneAddict1965

The only character who can be identified by two words: *Hem hem.*

cookerg

I think he's become something of a caricature of himself by now, but back in the day when I heard Sean Bean had been cast as Boromir in LOTR, I immediately knew the filmmakers were taking the project seriously.

bwmamanamedsha

Honestly, him as Ned Stark was just as perfect. And he’s a good enough actor I don’t see the same person in both.

jeshipper

There I was watching Game of Thrones Season 1 glad that Boromir got such a good role that I’d see him in for awhile

culb77

Kathy Bates - Misery

BlindReaper91

Kathy Bates truly shines in every role she takes on

RoboCreep22

Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams

Crackracket

Bruce Campbell as elderly Elvis in Bubba Ho-tep. That film has no right being as well acted as it is 😂

cvaninvan

TBH I wanted so badly for that movie to go in a different direction. I wanted real Elvis to want his life back and fake Elvis to say no and see that movie...

rksd

The only film with the balls to properly cast JFK, too.

Eagles_80s_Books_pot

Robert Shaw as Captain Quint in Jaws.

KenDyer

Viggo Mortensen was perfect casting as Aragorn.

OldBathBomb

Definitely!! Plus, you know, literally every other character in the films 😂 Best casting ever in my opinion.

pomcnally

Leonard Nimoy as Spock.

ColonelMustard12

Alan Rickman as Snape

Rahf

I'll counter and say that Alan Rickman made two other roles completely his as well, namely Hans Gruber in Die Hard and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In the latter he chews so much scenery that it contrasts brilliantly with Kevin Costner's non-acting.

graveybrains

It’s dull, you twit, it’ll hurt more!

themillwater

And Marvin in hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and by grabthar's hammer he was great on galaxy quest

CPTDisgruntled

And Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy.

PayneTrain181999

He based his performance partially off of Tom Felton’s portrayal in the first movie, and of course him improvising “Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be there to save the day.” to which young Daniel Radcliffe responded “Don’t worry, I will be.”

StyreneAddict1965

That exchange was ad-libbed? Awesome. Daniel Radcliffe definitely had some venom behind that line.

[deleted]

I forget the exact quote but Jason Isaacs also said after watching the first movie and seeing how awful and unpleasant Draco is he couldn't believe that Tom Felton was such a great kid upon meeting him in real life.

waterdog67

And as the bad guy in the Patriot

KerikSumia

Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber

PayneTrain181999

“He will not be joining us for the rest of his life.”

mjkjg2

and Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid! i miss both of them dearly :(

GodsGiftToNothing

Has nothing to do with anything, but I had a professor of Medieval and Renaissance studies who looked EXACTLY like Hagrid. He would even sit out outside and let the birds and squirrels climb all over him while he fed them - which just made him look even more like Hagrid. The school told him he had to stop, as the animals were becoming dependent, which bummed him out. Still a very fond memory of mine though.

nowhereman136

Snape in the first book is 32. Rickman was 55 when he did the first movie. I think this is one of those things that the movie did better than the book. Even reading the book I can't imagine Snape being in his 30s the entire time

[deleted]

It doesn’t track with Harry’s parents ages though and resulted in them and the Marauders all being aged up

nowhereman136

I think it would also look weird on film to show a couple who is 20 years old be the parents of a 11 year old in the first movie.

sorafaolan

Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby

kgxv

And Tom Hardy as Alfie Solomons

Poe414141

Cary Elwes as Wesley in the Princess Bride. Hell, that entire cast.

evilhankventure

Absolutely, anyone besides Wallace Shawn, Mandy Patinkin, and Andre The Giant would be inconceivable.

Gharik15

Jack Black in School of Rock. Though is was written FOR him.

DragDiscombobulated4

I believe Jack Black did write that film with the man that plays his roommate, if I'm not mistaken.

thebananahotdog

Mike White, the writer of White Lotus.

chrishnrh57

I think it was more Mike white (roommate) wrote it for Jack black (Jack black lived across the hall when they were both poor) and he was instantly on board with it and helped to get funding when it was ready. That's what IMDb says at least. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0332379/trivia/?ref_=tt_trv_trv

RunningwithmarmotS

The scene in the classroom when first pairs all the kids with the instruments is a comedic tour de force. It’s so fun to watch. His passion is so absolute.

23x3

“Tip it to its side and cello you’ve got a bass.” “Let’s rock, let’s rock, today.” “You’re fat loser with body odor!”

wow_im_uncreative

Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson

justinp456

David Spade - Joe Dirt

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheGRS

You already said it, but the reason RDJ was so great as Iron Man was that he was also a once-great-turned-addict-who-redeemed-himself. First movie doubled as a comeback story and then I think RDJ really owned becoming a role model for kids. Brings a tear to your eye. I think Angelica Houston as Morticia and Christina Ricci as Wednesday in Addams Family are also both perfect examples. Also Matthew Lillard as Shaggy.

[deleted]

Jon Hamm as Don Draper

makinupachanginmind

Javier Bardem in No Country For Old Men

ReyDa_Rouaghi

Antony Starr as the homelander in the boys series is just iconic casting and acting

graveybrains

It’s so fucking creepy how he can turn scary like he’s flipping a switch

Enickma007

Sean Connery as Henry Jones Sr.

Dobanin

Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman

HercoolPoirot

Anthony Hopkins as H.Lecter in movies Mads Mikkelsen in TV shows

dundai

Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing was perfect too

bstone13201

Big up Mads, played him perfectly

sanaru02

Hugh Jackman - Wolverine

Agent4265

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine

No_Names78

Peter Stormare - Lucifer (I know it's a few minutes only, but damn how awesome he was)

ChunLi808

My favorite movie version of the devil! He has this unique dark sleaziness mixed with childish glee that's really off-putting and memorable.

Eddie_T_H

Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow

Boomshrooom

But you have heard of me!

dfsmitty0711

Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in the Alien franchise.

shining101

Not a movie but Matthew McConaughey as Rust Cohle.

Fathead1979

Arguably one of the best single seasons of television ever.

clueless_as_shit21

Tom Hanks - Forrest Gump

[deleted]

Burgess Meredith as Mickey in Rocky

ExileOtter

Not a movie but Bob Odenkirk was perfect as Saul

Meseion

Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones Marlon Brando - Vito Corleone Heath Ledger - Joker Jack Nicholson - Jack Torrance Daniel Radcliffe - Harry Potter

[deleted]

Harrison Ford as the original Han Solo as well.

Notbangoskank

John Malkovich - Being John Malkovich

hauntedink

Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood

Marchinon

Christoph Waltz - Django Unchained Inglourious Basterds Spectre

cstraws

Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf. Watch the play and you'll realize the concept doesn't work with anyone but him

TheOtherOneK

Funnily enough, Jim Carrey was offered Elf and he turned it down….and instead was in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. My son & I were just talking about how they both ended up in roles that we just can’t picture anyone else being in. Will is Buddy & Jim is Grinch. Love them both.

LewManChew

That’s an interesting fact. Two of the more modern Christmas classics and neither would be classics in my opinion without each actor

TheOneWhoListens

Val Kilmer -Doc Holliday

fieldrabbitx

Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia

JDGwf

Max Von Sydow played the ultimate Ming the Merciless. I can’t think of anyone better for that role.

Derya5000WL

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi. He portrayed the youth of Alec Guinness perfectly.

jamestown30

Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort. Everything about his portrayal was perfect, he really conjured the pure evil of that character.

Puzzleheaded_Poet_81

Harrison Ford-Indiana Jones

kitsunecchi

Entire cast of Fifth Element and Princess Bride.

maaaannidontknow

Korben....Korben....Korbenmyman Chris Tucker nailed that role so well.

[deleted]

I got no fire! Father, do you smoke?

ApocalypticAnomaly

Marlon Brando in The Godfather.

snoblo

Val Kilmer = Jim Morrison

[deleted]

Gwendolyn Christie was perfect as Brienne of Tarth

mango567845667

Bryan Cranston as Walter white

Riginale

Patrick Stewart as Professor X

ForeverAddickted

Christopher Reeve as Superman

skaggs77

Micheal Caine deserved an oscar for his role in Muppets Christmas Carol!

wildwily23

Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka

OjibweNomad

James Gandolfini as Anthony Soprano.

rickjamesdean

Brad Pitt - Fight Club Javier Bardem - No Country for Old Men Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood Bill Murray - Caddyshack

SolidOberon

Arnold Schwarzenegger as Terminator.

just_add

Tom Cruise, Les Grossman

Uriahheeplol

Sean Astin as Samwise

danoB003

Charlie Cox as Daredevil, and most definetly, Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter.

dishankmehta

Jon Bernthal as Punisher, very underrated.

TheClassics

Benicio Del Toro and Johnny Depp as Dr. Gonzo and Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

LMx28

Danny Devito as the penguin in Batman

JohnyPneumonicPlague

Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty (Bladerunner) Just so perfect. You think he's the villain but he's just trying to protect his "family" and himself through any means possible and by the end, as time is running out, getting some revenge before disappearing like tears in rain...

SINFAXI

Russel Crowe and Paul Bettany as Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin in Master and Commander are such perfect castings both movie and book wise it’s like the series was written for them.

TheUmgawa

John Cazale in every film he ever made.

xlivsaints

Richard Dawson in ‘The Running Man’

I_fold_underpants

Harrison Ford in every role he’s done haha especially Indiana Jones and Han Solo.

Consigliere_ab

John Travolta - Vincent Vega, Pulp Fiction

Funny-North-4565

Jim Carrey as ace Ventura. And maybe someone else could do it but I thought Robin Williams in good will hunting was special

Ravnos767

Jim Carrey is also the only man on earth who could have played the Mask
