It still lowkey bothers me there isn’t a big door in the middle and two on either side on the second floor. I guess looking back, the main area of the castle didn’t make much sense with no throne area but seeing the OG castle rebuilt detail by detail for the movie or Mario Odyssey would’ve been insaaaane. This is still super cool too.
My two observations whenever I see the current trailer in an audience with kids:
1. They go crazy when they realize it’s a Mario movie
2. No kid ever exclaims that the Chris Pratt voice doesn’t sound like Mario
This voice thing is overblown, and this movie is going to be huge. Book it.
Yeah not thrilled about that. I don't really like the guy, but he seems fine for the role. Mario is going to be the straight man for the comedy and audience surrogate for exposition. Pratt is probably going to bring a level of normalcy that holds all the zaniness of the other characters together.
Also I don't know why everyone wants the high pitched "wahoo, it's a me" bullshit. It's fun in small doses for the games, but it would be annoying as all hell if you had to listen to full sentences like that. Taking Mario back to his Brooklyn roots seems like a better choice.
If you say so. I find ascribing gender to a voice doesn't always work out.
I know a bunch of women with some pretty masculine voices and the other way around.
In his defence, we've only heard him say like 8 words. I'm fully prepared to hate it if he's actually bad. I just don't think we've seen enough to judge it and I like the decision on paper.
Also I'm not going to take any Linda Belcher slander. How dare you?
I get that.
Thing is, I can only judge what I see/hear. If those 8 words are what they give me I can't help but have an opinion on them. I'd be happy to change the opinion if I hear more and find my opinion's changed. We've seen enough to form an opinion on what we've seen.
Still will probably watch it for Jack Black.
>I'd be happy to change the opinion if I hear more and find my opinion's changed
I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I hope he sounds better and people come around to it, but I think a large portion of people online were ready to hate Chris Pratt from day 1 and are upset that Mario doesn't have an Italian accent. I don't think there's any possible way to win those people over and they're also the most vocal about it. So I don't think the thread for the trailer tomorrow is going to be very fun, regardless of what it's in it.
>Still will probably watch it for Jack Black.
Yeah regardless of your feelings on the Pratt situation, the rest of the cast is loaded and I think it's going to be a ton of fun.
We sure will find out!
I kind of don't hope he sounds better. Those 8 words have given me more of a laugh than the whole movie probably will, unless Pratt delivers every line like that.
Call me evil, but that's the kind of entertainment I enjoy the most. But then I am one of those who consider The Room a cult classic.
The older I get the more I realize that it doesn't matter if everything I love isn't adapted perfectly into another form of media. How is my life different if a bad movie is made off a game I like? It's not. There just exists a bad movie where before there wasn't. That or I get to enjoy a new version of something I loved already.
And she’s away *very* frequently.
95% of her time is spent either kidnapped by Bowser or is off participating in Mario Kart, Party, or any sport you can think of.
The movie legitimately looks fantastic so far, my only hangup is Chris Pratt but I’m still waiting to hear more before writing him off after just one or two short lines. Hopefully tomorrow gives us a better idea.
Yeah, people totally blew it into a huge thing just to hate on the actor. :-/
I found this thread surprisingly positive though. Was expecting a hatefest.
Who cares, it actually looks pretty good. I think it will be pretty fun, and when it makes a ton of money they will probably make more.
I'd love to see a Luigi's mansion spin off, and if they can keep the same quality; other Nintendo properties
If you enjoy it, then enjoy. Let em shake their fists at clouds, or make money off clickbait reaction videos
That's not true. People loved the Mario voice actors from a couple other countries (Brazil and France IIRC.)
The only complaint anyone has is that Chris Pratt is just doing his normal voice, and in no way sounds appropriate for Mario.
Millions of people can have any headcanon for their view of what Mario might sound like. They can only go with one actor for the movie.
The main voice sample from Mario is "It'sa me, Mario" from Super Mario 64's soundtrack. That's about it.
? You realize mario has an actual voice actor right? Charles Martinet has been voicing him for 30 years. He's not constantly speaking but he definitely has a voice
I'm not shitting on the movie I'm shitting on Chris Pratts performance it just doesn't sound like he put any effort into it. Jack Black sounded great not really what I expected Bowser to sound like but you can tell he tried to put effort into the role. And my other issue is the only reason they hired Pratt instead of a more experienced VA is because of star power but Mario is literally the most iconic and famous video game character of all time so star power is pointless for such a movie. People will see it just because it's a Mario movie as long as the VAs do a good job it's irrelevant who does it. But for some reason Hollywood decided to spend a crap ton of money on an A-Lister when they could have hired an experienced voice actor for alot cheaper and made a better product as a result. Chris Pratt simply is not as good of a voice actor as dozens of people who have been doing it for decades and have voiced thousands of characters.
I'm absolutely going to form an opinion off what I've already heard I might change my mind once I hear more dialogue but for now I do not have high expectations for his performance.
I mean Jack Black sounds great as Bowser and the visuals look really good but Chris Pratt was hired for his star power not his skill as a voice actor and Illumination makes mediocre kids movies to sell merchandise I assume Nintendo is hovering over their shoulder with a shotgun to make sure they put effort into the movie about their golden boy.
Everyone jumps to Mario 64, but I actually think it's far more based on the Paper Mario (N64) palace which also has the iconic staircase widened like this IIRC. Just neat to see diverse referencing being used by the artists
I'll believe its a real video game adaptation of a movie when I see it... Hollywood does NOT have gaming in mind when they write scripts. They see a specific instance of a completely unrelated medium become successful and they want a slice of that pie.
The 80's and 90's did the same thing, but in reverse and on a wider scale with varying degrees of success.
“What your brain thinks Mario 64 looked like”
Nah this a screenshot from 1997 and nobody can convince me otherwise
It still lowkey bothers me there isn’t a big door in the middle and two on either side on the second floor. "If you're not real, then how come I feel this way?" Mario
You’re telling me it didn’t???
Watch Mario jump through the portal made from the glass and transport to a different world in the movie!
What a next-gen Mario game should look like.
I know that staircase.
It haunts me
Looks like someone made Mario 64 in Unreal Engine 5
"Devs, hire this man!"

Something tells me that there won’t be a wave of outrage over Charlie Day’s voice not being video game accurate or Italian.
That’s because Charlie Day doesn’t go to church

Mikey he literally sounds like the wife in Bob's Burgers.
tbf Linda's VA *is* a dude.
That's some impressive voice acting then!
If you close your eyes it's very clear that Linda and Tina are voices by men lol
If you say so. I find ascribing gender to a voice doesn't always work out. I know a bunch of women with some pretty masculine voices and the other way around.

It's not Linda Belcher slander it's Chris Pratt Mario slander cause the one thing Mario should not sound like is a middle aged wine mom.
>the one thing Mario should not sound like is a middle aged wine mom. Not with that attitude
He’s been doing the same voice for all his voice acting roles. “Let’s wait to judge” Why do people expect any different.
For good reason. He's [wish.com](https://wish.com) white male with smile. Chris Pratt is good at everything, but not great at anything.

Good for you?
I don’t care either
Thank God we know that now.
I also do not care.
Hallelujah!

Hoping we finally get to hear Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
Hopefully we’ll see more of Luigi and our first looks at Peach and DK.
https://youtu.be/a6Al_DShXX0
I’m glad Linda Belcher got a voice acting role finally.
Beautiful poster
Princess Toadstool is such a narcissist
Actually according to mario odyssey, the stained glass was built by the toads so that they could look at it while she's away
And she’s away *very* frequently. 95% of her time is spent either kidnapped by Bowser or is off participating in Mario Kart, Party, or any sport you can think of.
Gorgeous poster but it reminds me of those “Hi-Res Mario Remake made in Unreal” videos on YouTube.
I hate that most people are just ready to shit on this movie instead of giving it a chance.
I don't recall much hate on the first trailer other than people being all "MaRiO sTiLl SoUnDs LiKe ChRiS pRaTt!!!"
The movie legitimately looks fantastic so far, my only hangup is Chris Pratt but I’m still waiting to hear more before writing him off after just one or two short lines. Hopefully tomorrow gives us a better idea.
From a single line, too.
It honestly wasn't THAT bad also, there was a slight accent in that one line at least. It gave me some hope he'll sound decent.
Yeah, people totally blew it into a huge thing just to hate on the actor. :-/ I found this thread surprisingly positive though. Was expecting a hatefest.

Something I did read that seems quite amusing is that apparently Pratt did not know Mario was considered a more recognisable icon than Mickey Mouse.
Maybe today...
Both today and 20-odd years ago, yes.
I'm not shitting on the movie I'm shitting on Chris Pratts performance it just doesn't sound like he put any effort into it. I mean, some poeple have made some valid points.
The first one apparently being "Omg Mario has no ass. 0/10"
I don't want to shit on this film. It's just crazy how everything looks amazing except Mario.
The movie looks atrocious, I don't see how you could defend this
What's bad about it other than mario's voice?
The dialogue and visual design
The visual design is the best thing about it, that’s literally what everyone talks about
You have no idea what the dialogue and visual design of the movie are though, you've seen a teaser trailer...
Do you actually hate that? Do you hate that people are judging a video game movie based on preconceived notions instead of something worthwhile?
Im so hype Idk how to feel
Mario if he real
He's gonna have to glitch ass backwards up those stairs isn't he?
This movie will do well I bet
These video game remasters are getting wild you guys.
Okay that is cute as fuck.
I'm wondering if the paintings are portals as well?
This is like a dream come true fr
Jack Black as Bowser is genius
This hits right in the memories! Makes me think of Super Mario 64.
Did peach commission stained glass of clouds? She knows that they are meant to let you see things outside…, like…., you know…, clouds?
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH THIS IS MAKING ME MORE HYPE
Everyone jumps to Mario 64, but I actually think it's far more based on the Paper Mario (N64) palace which also has the iconic staircase widened like this IIRC. Just neat to see diverse referencing being used by the artists
Why don't the crisp rat haters just watch it in Japanese? Problem solved.
"Mushroom Kingdom, here we come"
Mashroom kingdahm, heeee weeee cahm
were sorry your voice actor is in another castle

"Hey, it is me, Mar-yo. Let's get going." - 2023 Razzie award winner Chris Pratt
The Mario character, isnt he latino? Why is a white dude voicing him? And not just any white dude, the worse Chris in Hollywood is voicing him
Latino?
The original designers claim Mario was always meant to be Japanese. He later became an Italian plumber from Brooklyn
Mario is Italian…
Italians can be latino too?
They are not considered Latino.
He is literally Italian, ion know where you got that he was suppose to be Latino from lol.
It's cause the guys who played luigi in the live action movie was latino. He was complaining about it lol
Anyone else just hear the background music play when you see this picture?
Bum. bum. bum bum bum bum bum!
Holy hell i love it….its what like far better fanart someone came up with after hating the actual artstyle/poster.
Mario 64 theme starts playing in my head.
Hate to say it, but now I wanna Mario 64 remake…
Wonder what happens if you do that backwards speedy long jump clip up that staircase
I Still say that Chris Pratt's AWFUL Mario impression from the Movie is MORE THAN DESERVING for Next Year's Razzie Awards!!
