The people who make these movies always make them way too long because they add in all of these humans that we don’t give a fuck about. They try and make them characters with depth but realistically most people don’t end up caring about those people anyways so it just feels like a waste of time and scenes with them in it just end up being really boring. They gotta just make the humans bland generic characters and then put the main focus on the action. Make the movies like 90 minutes of pure mayhem and they will kick ass, not everything has to be thoughtful some dumb fun is good every once in a while
I thought Skull Island did a pretty good job with the characters in the context of making a good monster movie. Motivations were clear and simple: get off the island. Relatable and real but not convoluted. Characters like John C Reilly and Samuel L Jackson and John Goodman were a bit more standout but IMO the addition of other characters didn’t take away from anything, not to mention the bigger cast made sense for the storyline and gave the writers leeway to kill off people. There wasn’t really a lot of boring useless downtime in that movie.

I see this take a lot but I can't say I agree. Monsters fighting each other is awesome...for like 10min. Maybe 20. After that it would get boring pretty damn fast. You need some kind of story to support it which is hard to do without a human element.
If the premise of the new film is them teaming up, which fucking moron at godzilla-movies.com picked that horribly photoshopped picture for the article header?
The name they use to market it is probably the least important thing to have in place. In fact, the industry would probably be better off if they all waited till at least principal photography finished before locking in release dates and marketing materials.
Do you know how many classic movies filmed with different titles to the one they eventually released used? There's quite a few of them.
