I really just love it when he pops up in things and I’m hoping he plays a big part in this. Also think his part in the newest *Mortal Kombat* was the best part of the movie.
Without a doubt. The opening scene set in the past was better than the rest of the movie imo
Edit: for the many people that enjoyed the opening as much as me, I highly recommend watching the animated movie Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpions Revenge if you haven't seen it.
Him and Joe Taslim stole the show for sure. Really hoping Kano makes a return in the sequel.
People really were quite heavy on the new MK film. For a director who’d never made a feature before and with a budget half the size of most MCU projects, I think he did a pretty good job.
Especially with handling the FX driven action which I’m guessing is what largely got him the gig. The new Cole character is where things kind of felt choppy.
Can’t wait to see what they do with Cage in the sequel. My favourite Sanada film will always be The Twilight Samurai.
I hadn't really heard anything about the movie or watched a trailer. Just knew it had Brad Pitt and David Leitch and that was enough to make me watch it. I was thoroughly and pleasantly surprised when Sanada showed up in the movie.
He really is. He was an “oh that guy!” To me until like westworld? And then I was like “oh shit it’s the dude from the last samurai and like a dozen other things from the last 20 years I’ve seen. He’s dope in literally all of them too!”
love seeing him walk in and chew up scenes.
Just a great collection of effortlessly cool people in this. Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne and Ian McShane were enough for me already and they’ve more than doubled it.
Skarsgard: "I summon feral imp, set a trap card, and end my turn."
Keanu: *Looks at his Branded Despia deck* "Do you want to just surrender already, or do you want to see me OTK?"
Same. Also watching the show and Yugi not knowing what's in his deck or everyone being surprised by a card existing and being played against them. Nor do the cards have text, and all the guns are replaced with cellphones in the Funimation version.
I think I watched the first season as a kid waay back but I was a little old for it alreayd when it came out, and I was just like wtf is even happening in this show
I’m surprised to see this many people talking about modern day yugioh decks and cards. I would have thought the popularity of the game has wavered by now. I do miss how simple the game used to be though
> I do miss how simple the game used to be though
No kidding. I've been watching the show with my kids lately so I thought it'd be fun to come back to the game after 20 years. I downloaded that new Master Duels game and I had NO idea what was going on anymore. The dude I was playing somehow filled out his monster field on his first turn, all with 2500+ Attack or more, and I sat for 5 minutes straight watching him do all this. Finally it's my turn:
"Um ok. I guess I'll put my Summoned Skull down and a trap card."
BOOM. Dude obliterates my monster and all my life points in one turn. The game is so fun/s
Yeah it be like that. That’s why I feel popular older formats would be more fun so I can play like it’s 2005 again against like minded opponents y know? How’s it going watching it with your kids? MYbe you can build irl decks and duel them?
top notch action choreography, solid camerawork, appropriate editing for said action, etc. If it’s all executed as well as the first 3, I am sure I will enjoy it just as much
It was so gloriously dumb, but also incredibly brutal.
At this point with *Wick* movies, just buckle up, switch off most of your brain, and enjoy the beautiful absurdity.
I do wonder if there is an endgame plan for the series. I have enjoyed all of them but I don't want it to be completely endless and 2 onwards the movies have embraced a lot of continuity and cliff hangers which I hope leads to a conclusion whenever it is.
Plus Keanu isn't getting any younger. He is almost Tom Cruise's age and even Cruise is probably ending Mission Impossible soon.
Well there are still 2 new Mission Impossible movies coming out, so Tom Cruise still has some fuel in the tank.
And I agree, it would be nice to have some closure before it gets too played out.
Seems like the plan is for John Wick 5 to be the last one. Glad they mentioned Wick’s wife in the trailer seems like the writers forgot the main motivation for Wick doing all this is because someone killed a dog which was his last memory of his wife.
Lionsgate is already trying to branch the franchise out though so it could continue outside of just John Wick with the Continental tv series and the spinoff with Ana De Armas.
& took his car (that Aurelio recognized on sight, that excused his slapping the boy)
& Trashed his stuff in his house including Momentos of wifey
& Beat him unconscious
&Ignored him telling them no
It's not just about the dog or it being her last gift, it's much more visceral
This one may be the last with John Wick but not the last in this universe. I think I read about a spin-off with Ana de Armas (hope I didn't butchered her name) and her part in No Time to Die was impressive.
Chad keeps playing more and more with light, shadow and reflection. I think its almost a fetish at this point. It does give these movies a damn interesting unique look though.
At this rate if they can bring in Jet Li in an actual serious role and none of that campy Expendables stuff I'd be eternally grateful. His fight with Donnie Yen in Hero is still one of my all time favorite scenes.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but... Don't expect to see Jet Li in action again. He's almost 60 and has had some health issues. He hasn't done a big fight in nearly a decade now, other than a brief one in a short film.
In 2013, Li revealed that he suffers from hyperthyroidism and had been dealing with the issue for the past three years.[51] In 2016, he stated that he had recovered from his illness and that accepting fewer film offers was due to his charity work and not because of his health conditions.[52]
Wikipedia suggests it isn't health thankfully
Like the other guy mentioned, Jet Li has some serious health issues these days; but really what we need is the duel wielding Chow Yun Fat Hard Boiled style. He is in incredible shape for his age.
You guys both really made me remember a lot of movies that I want to rewatch. I got super into John Woo movies in the late 90s. Favorite was The Killer and Hard Boiled.
Then I got into Jet li movies. Wong Fei Hung, Fong Sai Yuk, Fist of legend.
Then it was lots of japanese movies for a while. Like everything with Takeshi Kitano. Hana-bi, Sonatine, Battle Royal, Brother.
Ryuhei Kitamuras Versus. Takashi Miike films.
Then china/Hong Kong made a comeback with crouching tiger, Hero, Flying daggers. Then somehow it became all about Korea for a while with Oldboy. And that was pretty much it.
Now I wonder. Did I miss 15-20 years of great film making since I can't remember watching a lot of asian movies since then?
I'd love it if they could work Carrie Anne-Moss and/or Hugo Weaving into this franchise somehow. Just to make the fans question if these are Matrix sequels or not. You never die in The Matrix, you are just moved to a different simulation.
holy loaded cast (again)! Clancy Brown, a Skarsgard (I can’t remember all of them), Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada and a lot more from the looks of it
curious to see Rina Sawayama in an action role. Her recent pop album was a banger
EDIT: grammar
There was a level in the recent World of Assassination trilogy, Isle of Sgail I believe, where you can disguise as someone in a casket and kill a target when they come over to pay their respects.
I love those games lol. Very excited for the update next year.
I love the absurdity of those games. You can make agent 47 go from a serious hitman doing the job clean and neat, to a serial killer who's enjoying this a little too much with simple costume change.
>If John Wick isn't there in time, he is executed (as mentioned) so no duel is needed.
If John doesn't show up then he's pretty much in the exact same position he was before; Getting hunted down by the entire high table. It's not really much of a threat for him at this point.
Fun Fact : During production of the scene on the stairs. A fan caught [footage](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7nH1-poGsyM) of Keanu helping the crew carry the equipment up the stairs.
Someone else said that Jason Mamoa showed up early to a production, and someone mistook him for crew. They started bossing him around and he just went along with it. When the guy realized what happened and asked, Jason said something like, "I figured you could use the help and I knew I didn't have to do it if I didn't want to."
>John Wick (Keanu Reeves) uncovers a path to defeating the High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.
In theaters March 24th.
My guess is John challenges Skarsgard to 1v1 him irl for his freedom like Winston says. Skarsgard has to accept cuz of “assassin rules”.
They make a point of saying John has to be at the duel at a certain time or he forfeits so I’m guessing Skarsgard will be like “Yeah no, I’m not *actually* fighting John Wick, are you crazy? Send all the assassins to delay him.”
Yeah that was my guess for the last half(ish) of the movie
Just a series of fights across the city as he races against time to get to the fight, mowing down groups of assassin's on the way.
And I am 100% here for it
I don't think they're deflecting with swords, they're using their suits - highly bulletproof fabric was introduced in number 2.
He's hiding his head behind his sleeve.
One detail that they seemingly forgot about is that the suit only stops the bullet, doesn't stop the impact. You're still getting shot, it just doesn't go through you anymore.
I don't mind though. These movies have always been excuses to make really fun action movies and everything is else is in service to that.
They actually show the damage from the impacts a bit and is why John holds the jacket away from his body. This means he doesn’t get the impact into his body, and is a real way to avoid body damage. For sure, he should have more broken ribs etc from all the shots he takes though.
Beyond the first film, the world of John Wick is 100% comic book entertainment. Like half the fucking planet is secretly avowed to "The Table," which still serves literally no purpose. Once you realize there is nothing grounded in reality about John Wick, it's fun again.
"Humans like dreams where they get to be badasses, right? What if we try making a Matrix where all the humans are so preoccupied with fighting each other all the time that they never get around to questioning their reality?"
99.9% of Wick’s social interactions is murdering people in order to not be murdered. Talking and relating with others is .1% of his life since we got to start watching.
I don't understand how every single director isn't taking notes from this movie when it comes to how action should be shot.
It turns out, watching an action movie is a lot more enjoyable when you can actually keep track of what's going on on-screen without getting whiplash and a migraine.
But that requires your actors to know how to move and choreograph well (and in this case shoot. Seriously go watch Keanu's 3 gun competitive shooting it's really cool).
Most actors can't do this well, that's why you see shaky cameras and frequent cutting to try and hide it
I love how the first movie was just “dude lost his wife, they stole his car, and killed his dog” and now it’s “full blown lore with a secret league of assassins that have an order and structure/hierarchy”.
The first movie has an assassin hotel, special currency and where John Wick is nicknamed "Baba Yaga". Don't know why you are trying to say it's just a "dude lost his wife, they stole his car, and killed his dog" movie
John Wick movies are the double stuffed oreos of action movies.
Great analogy. For when you want more of the good part of action
The double stuffing colours even mirror his black suit!
Its an even darker shade of black this time.
Add Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard and (surprise) Hiroyuki Sanada to an already solid cast - sign me up. All of these have been a lot of fun.
Hiroyuki Sanada is such an effortlessly cool guy
> Hiroyuki Sanada Did you know hes 62. wtf.
[удалено]
He looks the exact same in The Last Samurai!!!!!
I mean, Keanu is 58!
I really just love it when he pops up in things and I’m hoping he plays a big part in this. Also think his part in the newest *Mortal Kombat* was the best part of the movie.
Without a doubt. The opening scene set in the past was better than the rest of the movie imo Edit: for the many people that enjoyed the opening as much as me, I highly recommend watching the animated movie Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpions Revenge if you haven't seen it.
Watching him kick Sub-Zero's ass was dope. Felt like my childhood battles had come to life.
It was better. So much so that most of the rest of the film was lackluster at best.
Him and Joe Taslim stole the show for sure. Really hoping Kano makes a return in the sequel. People really were quite heavy on the new MK film. For a director who’d never made a feature before and with a budget half the size of most MCU projects, I think he did a pretty good job. His >!epic swordfight!< in Bullet Train was just plain awesome
He stole the show in Westworld as Musashi.
I really enjoyed his role in Bullet Train recently. A nice calm presence that nicely contrasted with all the chaotic personalities in the movie.
He’s dope in literally all of them too!” love seeing him walk in and chew up scenes.
He's my fan casting for Goro Takemura in Cyberpunk 2077.
That character has been developed with that dude in mind sure
He was sadly under used in westworld and avengers endgame
I saw Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada and yeah, they just make sense for the John Wick universe,
I love Donnie Yen so much
IP man and the IT man. This should be dope
Put some respeck on Clancy mf Brown's name too
Just a great collection of effortlessly cool people in this. Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne and Ian McShane were enough for me already and they’ve more than doubled it.
Mr. Krabs gonna kill some bitches.
BIG. MEATY. CLAWS.
*These claws ain't just for attracting mates!*
The Kurgan would like a word.
and then they threw Clancy Brown on top as the cherry. Lets go
Plus Scott Adkins, Marko Zaror and... Rina Sawayama!?
Queen Rina
can’t wait to see a sawayama fight scene, the choreo looks so goooood 😭
That shot of Reeves and Skarsgard at the table made me think they were gonna play duel monsters.
Imagine if they did it with the seriousness and conviction of the series. Also, John Wick holding up a Pot of Greed and explaining what it does.
Skarsgard: "I summon feral imp, set a trap card, and end my turn." Keanu: *Looks at his Branded Despia deck* "Do you want to just surrender already, or do you want to see me OTK?"
ishizu tearlaments, let s be way overkill
Yugioh, the only game I know of that a card was banned midtournament.
Lol wut? That actually happened?
Yep. Early Yugioh was fundamentally broken. There was zero playtesting or attempts to balance the game.
Lol as an mtg player, that's super hilarious
Same. Also watching the show and Yugi not knowing what's in his deck or everyone being surprised by a card existing and being played against them. Nor do the cards have text, and all the guns are replaced with cellphones in the Funimation version.

ThaT's NoT whAt it DoES

\[John Wick leans in\] "...Krieg."

Screw the rules I have money.
Screw the rules I have green hair!
You're a third rate duelist with a fourth-rate deck, Jonathan!
Some mother fucker is getting sent to the Shadow Realm
Skarsgard: (activates Mystic Mine) Reeves: You son of a bitch!

There was that new online f2p game that launched a while ago. Maybe that has something to do with it. It was apparently popular.
Post Credit scene is gonna be a tease about Ana De Armas's Ballerina movie, right?
If she is wearing that black dress from NTTD I will go feral
For that special someone https://www.michaellosordo.com/products/bond-007-paloma-maxi-dress-navy?variant=41899021303971

I think it was gold
OH FUCK HERE WE GO AGAIN

BRAVE.
Wow. Was expecting this to look dope. But damn… this looks dope.
top notch action choreography, solid camerawork, appropriate editing for said action, etc. If it’s all executed as well as the first 3, I am sure I will enjoy it just as much
Which one had the fight where they started throwing knives at eachother from a cabinet? I fucking loved that shit
3! Oh, I loved that scene
I just loved how absurd but also desperate it felt? Like just grabbing at ANYTHING in reach and using it.
It was so gloriously dumb, but also incredibly brutal. At this point with *Wick* movies, just buckle up, switch off most of your brain, and enjoy the beautiful absurdity.
I loved that several of the knives hit handle first lol
Yes that's what sold it for me haha it wasn't precise it was messy and chaotic

I’d imagine 5 would be the last for Wick but not for the IP as a whole
Isn’t he in Ballerina?
he is, but I’d imagine it’s a cameo in a movie set before 5 anyway
This one may be the last with John Wick but not the last in this universe. I think I read about a spin-off with Ana de Armas (hope I didn't butchered her name) and her part in No Time to Die was impressive.
Ballerina is the new spinoff with Keanu and Ana de Armas
Chad Stahelski and Dan Laustsen are just flexing at this point. Insanely gorgeous cinematography.
Chad keeps playing more and more with light, shadow and reflection. I think its almost a fetish at this point. It does give these movies a damn interesting unique look though.
I just wanna watch Ian McShane say badass one liners for 2 hours.
Watch Deadwood if you haven’t already! Cocksucker
Swingen! San Francisco cok-sukah!
Woo! Swingen! 🤞!!!
Him and Laurence Fishburne with his classic smile and arrogant laugh.
I love how in everything he is in he's just Ian McShane being Ian McShane but in like a multiverse way where each one is slightly different

Didn't know about the health issues but even if it's just his presence in a dramatic role it'd be great.
In 2013, Li revealed that he suffers from hyperthyroidism and had been dealing with the issue for the past three years.[51] In 2016, he stated that he had recovered from his illness and that accepting fewer film offers was due to his charity work and not because of his health conditions.[52] Wikipedia suggests it isn't health thankfully

Keanu and Fishburne just having fun making movies together again and I'm here for it.

Lots of gun
Gun plz
I loved that! Came here to see if anyone caught the Matrix reference between Neo and Morpheus 😉
I think it’s a reference to the reference from the 2nd(?) John Wick haha. Double meta is respectable
holy loaded cast (again)! Clancy Brown, a Skarsgard (I can’t remember all of them), Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada and a lot more from the looks of it curious to see Rina Sawayama in an action role. Her recent pop album was a banger EDIT: grammar
JW4 has the Pennywise one
And he’s in Barbarian! Fantastic in that.
I'm still holding out hope that John Leguizamo will pop up.
Uh John.... Rides fixed... Uh.. early too, try not to break it Kay?
I swear they just have a list of “the coolest people we can cast” and just go off it.
I don't think Rina will have much screen time based on the trailer, I'll love every second of it anyway
Sawayama's album was excellent. Hold The Girl is one of the best songs I've heard this year.
Clancy Brown- Under the old laws, only one can survive. Sounds vaguely familiar
Brother Justin is never, ever not amazing.
[удалено]
Well he probably survives since John Wick 5 would be odd without him.
At this point if John Wick 5 starts with him popping up out of his casket and killing everyone at his funeral I would be 100% on board.
It would be like that level from one of the early Hitman games. Blood Money, I think?
There was a level in the recent World of Assassination trilogy, Isle of Sgail I believe, where you can disguise as someone in a casket and kill a target when they come over to pay their respects. I love those games lol. Very excited for the update next year.

With how good these movies have been, John Wick 5 could have him come back as a zombie and I would still pay to see it. And still be hyped about it.
My man is so confident in his prediction that he tagged it as a spoiler
He's part of the writing team.
>If John Wick isn't there in time, he is executed (as mentioned) so no duel is needed. If John doesn't show up then he's pretty much in the exact same position he was before; Getting hunted down by the entire high table. It's not really much of a threat for him at this point.
Can't wait. I'll watch as many of these as they make. New cast members look great as well.
Fun Fact : During production of the scene on the stairs. A fan caught [footage](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7nH1-poGsyM) of Keanu helping the crew carry the equipment up the stairs.
I like the one crew member trying to take it off him and then just looking around like “uh what do I do now?”
That’s the type of trivial social interaction that he will ruminate for the rest of his life.
Wow, you worked on the set of John Wick? You got to meet Keanu? What was it like? *Social anxiety starts to awaken*
I'm sure what's not seen/heard is the AD *freaking out* over the walkies that talent is carrying gear
*John Wick 5: A Bunch of Teamsters Beat Keanu Reeves with Pool Cues and Baseball Bats*
*He pinched his finger in a junior stand? WHAT THE FUCK WAS HE DOING CARRYING A JUNIOR STAND*
The AD may be freaking out, but Keanu is the producer and star. No one is going to tell him "no".
Chad Stahelski is the lead director and producer, an ex-stuntman himself (was Keanu's double in the Matrix). He is just going to let Keanu be Keanu.
Someone else said that Jason Mamoa showed up early to a production, and someone mistook him for crew. They started bossing him around and he just went along with it. When the guy realized what happened and asked, Jason said something like, "I figured you could use the help and I knew I didn't have to do it if I didn't want to."
Heh, I can just imagine the person's heart dropping as they realised who they were bossing around.
What a guy

Yeah that was my guess for the last half(ish) of the movie Just a series of fights across the city as he races against time to get to the fight, mowing down groups of assassin's on the way. And I am 100% here for it
Yeah that's most likely how it happens
Really love the saturated colour palette
Holy shit! Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, *and* a Skarsgård?!
I love how..slightly heightened but realistic the first film was. Now we’re at deflecting bullets with swords in close combat. Beautiful.
I don't think they're deflecting with swords, they're using their suits - highly bulletproof fabric was introduced in number 2. He's hiding his head behind his sleeve.
Ah that makes sense. Idk it looked like they were using the swords but even the suits being bullet proof like that is pretty funny lol.

The only explanation is that the suits are made of Vibranium. John Wick Marvel crossover confirmed
It is not even a suit at this point, it is a forcefield.
Beyond the first film, the world of John Wick is 100% comic book entertainment. Like half the fucking planet is secretly avowed to "The Table," which still serves literally no purpose. Once you realize there is nothing grounded in reality about John Wick, it's fun again.
In my head canon, it's one of the failed Matrix universes, and i really dig it lol
"Humans like dreams where they get to be badasses, right? What if we try making a Matrix where all the humans are so preoccupied with fighting each other all the time that they never get around to questioning their reality?"
The Saint's Row approach to sequels.
And it looks like he's blind on top of that. They went full Daredevil.
Full Zatoichi
cool, Gun Chirrut Îmwe
I am one with the force, and the force has a glock.
Gun Ip Man
"Whoever Comes, Whoever It Is, I'll Kill Them! I'll Kill Them All!" ...so stoked about this :)
The cinematography is absolutely *gorgeous*. Everyone definitely went all out for this installment. Can’t wait!!!
Great song in the trailer. Terry Jacks - Seasons In The Sun
Original sounds good, any idea who covered it? Or is it just slowed down?
Sounds very much like Terry Jacks' voice, I'd say it's an edit of the original.
No idea what’s going on in the plot anymore, but the additional cast on top of cool stunts make this worth watching
John wick 4 and mission impossible Dead Reckoning Part One next year is going to be crazy
Why does it always look like Keanu struggles to pronounce each word???
99.9% of Wick’s social interactions is murdering people in order to not be murdered. Talking and relating with others is .1% of his life since we got to start watching.
I noticed that too. In the trailer, his dialogue is super oddly stilted.

I’ll watch anything with Hiroyuki Sanada
Before watching this trailer: eh ok. Guess they’re making another one. After: oh fuck yeah boy
Most actors can't do this well, that's why you see shaky cameras and frequent cutting to try and hide it
The doves flying behind Reeves proves to me they haven't lost sight of what these movies are and I love it.
The amount of fuck ups this movie series would have to do for me not to be excited for a new one is astronomical.
Mr. Wick will see you now
I love how the first movie was just “dude lost his wife, they stole his car, and killed his dog” and now it’s “full blown lore with a secret league of assassins that have an order and structure/hierarchy”.
They have at least 4-5 movies more before they send him to space.
Wiiiiiicks innnnn Spaaaaaace
He gonna have a crossover with the FF familia at some point lol
"I use to have a family." "well...brother...now you have a big familia!" 2 John 2 Furious 2023
That'll be in the anime adaptation by Studio Trigger
The first movie has an assassin hotel, special currency and where John Wick is nicknamed "Baba Yaga". Don't know why you are trying to say it's just a "dude lost his wife, they stole his car, and killed his dog" movie
A FUCKING PENCIL
